In 2000, Lam began his tenure with Canada’s National Ballet School under the directorship of Mavis Staines. He was riveting in William Forsythe’s ‘The Vile Parody of Address.’” (Karen Campbell, The Boston Globe)

TRAVIS MORRISON
JASMINE DE LACRUZ-SIMPSON
A native of Richardson, Travis Morrison PT, DPT received his ballet training starting at age three at the Tuzer Dance Center, under the instruction of Tanju Tuzer, Patricia Tuzer, and Linda Brown. After graduating high school, Morrison attended SUNY Purchase College and was taught by Ted Kivitt and Richard Cooke. He is also a 2006 graduate of the Miami City Ballet Preprofessional Program where he trained under Truman Finney, Edward Villella and Geta Constantinescu, among others.
Jasmine started her dance training with Pat and Tanju Tuzer when she was 5 years old. She performed in the Tuzer Ballet’s 2nd Nutcracker production! While in high school at Ursuline Academy, she tried out for drill team and fell in love with the “roar of the crowd.” It was an easy transition into cheerleading and she participated in the sport all the way to the collegiate level. In 2005, Jasmine was recruited by Nike and 24 Hour Fitness and became an official Nike Rockstar Instructor. For the past 14 years, she has called Life Time Fitness her home. In addition to teaching weekly group fitness classes, Jasmine also mentors and trains other instructors.
Morrison was a member of the Colorado Ballet from 2006 to 2012 and had the privilege of working with noted choreographers Michael Pink, John Gardner, Amanda McKerrow, Lila York and Septime Webre. He especially enjoyed performing in the ballets by modern choreographers Brian Reeder (Eventually) and Amy Seiwert (Things Left Unsaid). In addition to these contemporary roles, Morrison has also danced a wide range of classical roles in Swan Lake, Don Quixote, and Romeo and Juliet.
In her spare time, Jasmine choreographs musicals for the Repertory Company Theater in Richardson, Texas. She recently received a nomination from BroadwayWorld.com for “Best Choreography” for her 2017 summer production of Grease. Recent shows include The Addams Family Musical, Thoroughly Modern Millie, Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, Legally Blonde the Musical and Spamalot. While her formal title is Signature Program Master Trainer, she favorite title is “mom” to her three sons Jaxon, Zander and Jett. Jasmine would like to dedicate this performance to Mr. Tuzer and all the lessons he taught her on and off the stage.
In 2009, he was a competitor in the New York International Ballet Competition, and in 2011, had the pleasure of performing with Amy Seiwert’s company, Im’ij-re, in San Francisco. This also gave him the opportunity to work with contemporary choreographers Matthew Neenan, and Adam Hougland. Morrison graduated cum laude from the University of Texas at Dallas in May of 2014 with a Bachelor of Science in Molecular and Cellular Biology. Most recently, he graduated with his Doctorate of Physical Therapy from UT Medical Branch in Galveston, in August of 2018. Currently practicing in the Dallas area, he will begin his fellowship training with Manual Therapy Institute in January to become a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Manual Physical Therapists. He is deeply humbled and honored to carry on the Tuzer legacy by performing the role traditionally performed by Tanju Tuzer.

Most recently, Marie has performed in Ascension set by Desmond Richardson at SMU, as well as performing in her own works at shows like SMU’s Brown Bag Dance series. In the spring, Marie will graduate with a BFA in Dance and a minor in Arts Management. In the future, she hopes to continue dancing and choreographing, and become even more involved in the Dallas art scene. This weekend’s performances of The Nutcracker are dedicated to Tanju Tuzer and his life, legacy, and family.
In August last year, the TACA Donna Wilhelm Family New Works Fund endowed BWDP with an unprecedented $70,000—the largest single award since the Fund’s inception five years ago. The award was earmarked for the development and production of Chasing Home—a new work about the refugee experience that delves into the struggles, hopes, fears, and dreams of displaced peoples. The project brought together Drake and award-winning New York composer Joseph Thalken.

THE STORY OF THE NUTCRACKER It is Christmas Eve and Dr. and Frau Stahlbaum are preparing for a grand party while their children, Marie and Fritz, eagerly await the evening’s festivities. As guests arrive, everyone rushes to greet family and friends, except for the pretentious Frau Rattenhausen and her ill-mannered daughter, who are met with disapproval. There is merriment, dancing, and gift-giving, and the Christmas tree is lit. Suddenly, Marie’s mysterious Godfather, Herr Drosselmeier, appears. A skilled and talented toymaker, he stirs the children’s imagination with a fascinating pantomime, and captivates all with life-sized dolls and a fearsome beast. He then presents Marie with a special gift, a handmade nutcracker doll fashioned as a soldier. After the children dance with their new toys, the party draws to a close as the guests say farewell. The family retires but mystery and magic linger in the Stahlbaum home. Marie awakens, realizes she forgot her nutcracker and hurries back to the dark parlor, but is terrified to see large rats and mice scurrying about the room. After the clock strikes midnight, the menacing Rat Queen appears, but Herr Drosselmeier returns and transforms Marie’s doll into a brave Nutcracker Prince. Magically, the Christmas tree and presents grow larger than life. Marie watches in amazement as the valiant Prince leads an army of toy soldiers into a mighty battle against the rodent forces, finally slaying the evil Queen. The Prince invites Marie to the Land of Sweets, and she begins her journey through a pine forest, where delicate snowflakes and their Snow Queen swirl about. As her journey continues, fairies light her way, and Marie arrives to find Herr Drosselmeier joined by her handsome Prince in the Land of Sweets. The Sugar Plum Fairy welcomes them to her palace, and the courtiers admire their bravery against the Rat Queen. Delighted with her new guests, the Sugar Plum Fairy orders a feast of entertainment for Marie and the Prince. Rich Spanish Chocolate twirls before their eyes and Danish Marzipan Shepherdesses play their flutes. Sultry Arabian Coffee mesmerizes the court and the dainty Chinese Tea brings smiles to everyone. The German Gingerbread children frolic about and the Russian Trepak dancers captivate all with fantastic flips and jumps. After the enchanting Flowers perform a beautiful waltz, the Sugar Plum Fairy herself thrills the guests with an exquisite dance and Grand Pas de Deux with her Cavalier. As the dreamy evening comes to an end, Herr Drosselmeier reads to Marie, resting in her bed. She reminisces about the magical events with her beloved nutcracker by her side.

Tanju Halil Tuzer MCMXLIV - 2017
An accomplished professional dancer on the international stage, and one of classical ballet’s greatest ambassadors, Tanju Tuzer was a true artist. The art form flourished in his hands. As a man, he was a craftsman, an avid fisherman, a gardener and a beekeeper. To his core, he was an adventurer and a lover of the human spirit. As an artistic director and teacher, he was maestro, a brilliant oracle of dance who had a passion for connecting the body to the soul while teaching students, whom he loved dearly. In these young minds, he cultivated tenacity and discipline. Through his commitment, he imbued generations of lives with his strong character. He taught that the true magic of dance was not found in powerful jumps or turns, but in the ability to transcend the mundane and take the audience into a higher, ethereal plane. Tanju, you have influenced and inspired so many. We miss you dearly but your spirit lives in our hearts. Your voice echos throughout the school and your passion lives on through us.
Tuzer Dance School, established in 1977, is dedicated to the study, performance, and appreciation of classical and contemporary ballet. We offer the highest quality dance instruction and education in a disciplined and nurturing environment. Our mission is to prepare students with outstanding technique, inspiration, confidence, determination, and internal motivation to help them develop to their highest potential and, if desired, realize a professional dance career.
SETTING THE STANDARD
Our mission is to nurture, train and educate exceptional young dancers and to inspire the future of classical ballet training.
