FANCY A DRINK IN THE INDUSTRIAL PARK?
When you work in an industrial park, after an early start you probably knock off around 3pm and head home.
When the work day is over, why bother hanging around an industrial park?
That is of course unless you work in the Coolum Eco Industrial Park, where you’ll find two amazing breweries and a gin distillery.
All local to Coolum.
We sat down with Steve from Blackflag Brewing and Sammy & Siobhan from Dacelo Gin Distillery to find out why they chose to set up in Coolum, what their plans are and how they’re helping the Coolum Eco Industrial Park become Australia’s best industrial park to work (and live) in.
BLACKFLAG BREWING:
If you’re cruising down Lomandra Place you can’t miss Blackflag Brewing. The imposing 1500m2 black shed (would it be any other colour?) is a favourite amongst locals for after-work bevvies.
Having started their brewing journey during covid in 2020, Steve and his partners have
rapidly grown to become one of the largest independent brewers in Queensland, stocked in over 700 bottle shops and bars around Australia.
The need for such a large shed meant Blackflag had to consider setting up anywhere from Brisbane to Gympie, but when the opportunity arose to have a purpose built facility in Coolum Beach, they couldn’t turn it down.
We asked Steve if he has any regrets choosing Coolum.
The answer came without hesitation; NO.
With wood-fired pizzas, a huge selection of beers on tap (brewed on-site), $5 happy hour drinks, music, games and a pet-friendly bar, it’s obvious why Blackflag is a popular destination among locals and those who work in the park.
And that’s not all.
With the team at Blackflag chasing approvals for events up to 1500 people, we have a feeling you’re going to be hearing a lot more about Blackflag in 2024. Open Wednesday to Sunday, we strongly encourage you to check it out.
Nestled in the corner of Lysaght street by the lake, you’ll find the hidden gem Dacelo Distillery. Started by Sammy and Siobhan (after 12 months of testing and refinement), Dacelo was born out of a passion for high quality gin and all things native Australian. Even though Dacelo only opened in late 2023, they are fast becoming well-known to locals and tourists alike.
In their amazing creations you’ll taste unique ingredients such as Gumbi Gumbi leaves, Banksia Robur, Pandanus nut, Muntrie Berries, Desert Wattle seed and many others, for a truly Australian gin tasting experience.
Sammy and Siobhan never had any doubt about where to set up operations. It was always going to be in the Coolum Eco Industrial Park, with its myriad of local businesses, native trees and beautiful lake frontage.
We recommend getting over to try Dacelo’s incredible local gins before everyone else. Take in the beautiful lake views from the mezzanine level with a new signature dry gin (coming mid-April), native Australian tapas, charcuterie boards, contemporary cocktails and sustainable gin jams.
Dacelo runs tastings and group tours featuring their six original gins, new releases and offer sample/gift packs for just $70. Sammy and Siobhan are planning to distil native inspired whiskey, rum and rye. The options keep growing!
Dacelo is the scientific name for our beloved Kookaburra.
