5 seconds in the U.S. 60,000 plastic bags are used.

Some escape the depths of closets and landfills to take flight in our cityscape. Their white skin sticking to the surface of Lake Michigan, flurrying down Windy City streets, flapping like flags from trees in Lincoln Park, and clinging desperately to construction site fences. These plastic bags serve a purpose. They are reminders of our indifference towards our environment, its resources, and its inhabitants. Like the leftover space in our city, plastic bags are often intended for an undeterminded future reuse, dangerous to inhabitants, and unwelcome.

mocks for little or no cost. Since urban hammocks are constructed from waste made by community members, the end-use of the materials is negligible and completely determined by their care and use. Coordination of bag collection efforts, rope-making and weaving teams, and space arrangemetns will fortify the efforts of neighboring communities.

Throw a rope-making party in the street or park. Wind rope with a 3-strand rope maker sourced from used bike parts.
