Editor’s Note
LAST Friday, there was an earthquake that jolted some parts of the Bicol Region and Cebu. A portion of the Philippine trench triggered last Friday's magnitude 7.6 tremble. The impact was said to be equivalent of more than two hundred atomic bombs dropped in Hiroshima during World War II. Miraculously, it claimed only one life, damaged scores of properties and infrastructure amounting to Php 40 million, according to the news. According to Phivolcs, the tremble occurred deep enough not to cause the water above to move and cause tsunami or tidal wave. Phivolcs recorded more than 370 aftershocks since Friday. But did you know that there are earthquakes everyday? They may not be strong enough to be felt, but yes, earthquakes are everyday occurrence. The earth moves on a daily basis, that is according to Phivolcs. So what does this mean? This brings to mind the movie released two or three years ago titled 2012 about the impending “end of the world” according to the Mayan prediction. If we were to believe the Mayan prophecy that the “thirteenth cycle” of the Mayan calendar would end and the world will be transformed, it will occur on December 21, 2012. This means that we are three months away from being vanished from this world. In reality, the world is being transformed everyday. And with the reality that there are hundreds of earthquakes being recorded daily, this is not a remote possibility. In answer to the above question, we need to be prepared. We have to be ready and prepared for any untoward event. When that big thing happens make sure that you have the basic needs like food, water, medicine and other essential things for survival. Do not build homes near fault lines. The most important thing to prepare, however, is the soul. Make sure that when we meet Him, we are well prepared spiritually. This is not to scare, rather, this is being realistic. 1

Foremost, I would like to thank everyone for responding to the call to support the goals of the district and that of our District Governor Tony Bautista. I am very happy that we were able to pay our SAR just before the deadline set by the Governor and I hope every club in the district has responded to the challenge to make history. Thank you very much once again; this gives me another reason to be very optimistic because the club can really count on you. Indeed, united we stand, divided we fall.

Two months gone, ten more to go. We are now on one of the most crucial periods of the year, at least as far as our club is concerned. This month will be our induction month. Our governor has urged us, his presidents, to have simple inductions and I am inclined to heed his call. However, ours will not just be an induction because as I have planned, ours will be a whole day event. We will have project in the morning, governor's visit in the afternoon and induction in the evening. I am aware that time will be crucial here but I am positive that we will be able to do the three. I hope that we will be able to accomplish our goals. With the show of support all of you have shown, specifically your response on my call to pay our dues before the deadline, I am optimistic that we will have a successful induction. I have not scheduled any project for this month for the obvious reason that I want to focus our energy to our induction. Anyway, we will have one this month during induction. Actually, I am already planning for our projects on October and November. I hope that everybody will be part of every project that we have. I am honored to have as our partners tonight, the Inner Wheel Club of RCDD led by Pres. Merla and even more honored by the presence of the IWC District Chair Michelle Zarate-Lioanag I have decided to continue the practice of holding a joint meeting with the Inner Wheel Club on the last Tuesday of every month, primarily to make our anns feel that they are not neglected and that they are our partners not only in life but in service. Now that Pres. Merla has voiced her sentiments, I am now bound to support her even more. I believe that we can be “real partners� as proven when we had joint medical & dental mission last August 11, 2012. May we also invite you, Pres. Merla, to join us in our community projects. Lastly, May I remind you again of our deadline. Please submit your solicitations as early as possible. Your support is needed once more.

935H, Pres. Tony called the meeting to order and asked Rtn. Leonard to cover for the night chairman of month. Sec. Benjie Tan did the invocation and invoked God to protect everyone present in the meeting as well as those who could not come and those we left behind at home. As has been our practice, everybody sang the National Anthem to give honor to the flag and since there was no guest, everybody sang the club's welcome song just the same. Rtn. Rene Farro, was called to recite the 4 way test and before doing so, he asked everyone to rise to the surprise of everybody; but they obliged when he said that he wanted to give solemnity to his task. Good one, Rtn. Rene. Most of those present seemed to be in the mood to share their jokes as four Rotarians each shared more than two jokes. However, most of the jokes would make the MTRCB chair frown and might suspend this segment of our program for jokes not suitable to young audience and parental guidance is advised. Those who are being watched by the censors for their jokes were Rtn. Rene Farro, PP Jermy Bolos, Sec. Benjie Tan and Rtn. Leonard. Pres. Tony, for his president's time, reminded everyone of the deadline and the most urgent one was the club's due to RI, the SAR. He reiterated the call of District Governor Tony to settle our dues before the month ends. It was important to pay the SAR so that we can become a part of history. Also, he reminded everyone about the deadline for the solicitation for the induction souvenir program. The first deadline was August 20, the second is first week of September and the final is second week of September. He also informed the members of the updates on the induction and details shall be divulged next meeting.
Pres. Tony asked IWC Pres. Merla about their plans for the induction. She obliged to speak but then emotion got the better of her and she opened up and sobbed about the condition of the IWC. Pres. Tony assured IWC Pres. Merla that the club would support them and as suggested by PP's Jermy, Norman and Marcos Perez, Rtn. Will Serafica, Rtn. Leonard to which everyone was amenable, the following were proposed and adopted, to wit: 1. Spouse of new members are automatically included in the rooster of members of the IWC. 2. The annual dues shall be increased to Php 6,200.00 to cover the Php 1,200.00 dues of each Rotarian's spouse to the IWC. T h e a b ove a r e p ro p o s a l s we r e a d o p te d permanently and would be in effect beyond Rotary Year 2012-2013. Also proposed in order to revitalize the IWC are the following urgent steps. A. All Rotarians shall bring their respective spouse, as member of the IWC, every fourth meeting of the month which is a joint meeting with our IWC. B. Set next Tuesday as joint meeting with the IWC and evangelize the IWC members (Rotary anns) on the essence of the Inner Wheel Club. C. Obliged all Rotarians to bring their spouses for evangelization. D. Invite the IW District chair for the join meeting. E. With the assistance of the club, the IWC of RCDD would conduct the meeting. F. Encourage the spouses to join inductions where there are Inner Wheel Clubs. With the above proposals being adopted, Pres. Merla was happy and finally she was all smile when she left the podium. PDG Alvin Gonzales, the perennial fine master, asked everyone to pay their semi annual dues to which everybody responded positively. Before the meeting was adjourned, “Let there be Peace� was sung and at exactly 2148H, the meeting was adjourned and fellowship followed. Those Present were: PP Jermy Bolos Rtn. October is Rotary vocational service month During October, Rotary clubs are encouraged to focus on this important avenue of Rotary service. Let us consider dedicating at least one meeting to discussing Vocational Service and plan a project or other activity to carry out through the year. ► Devote the first meeting in October to examining Vocational Service, including The Four-Way Test and the Rotary Code of Conduct. After expanding members' awareness, solicit their input in planning projects for the remainder of the year. ► “Classification talk” series in which each member gives a five-minute talk on his or her vocation. These presentations give members the chance to learn the inner workings of jobs other than their own, including the various problems that arise and the solutions used to address them. ► Present a vocational award to someone in the community who has exemplified outstanding professional achievement and high ethical standards. Promote the presentation in the community, and consider making it an annual event each October. Suggestions are very much welcome to promote this avenue of service!

A.S.K. “Ask, and you will receive; seek, and you will find; knock, and the door will be opened to you.” – Luke 11:9 I was then invited to attend an international advance training seminar on evangelism in Singapore last July 2007 but my savings were not enough to pay the contribution. I don't know where I will draw the money because life at that time was hard and I had just enrolled my 2 kids in school. My only remedy is to write my relative in the U.S. for financial assistance so that I may be able to join the said seminar. I waited for about weeks and true enough the blessings came on time. Just when I was about to lose hope, I was about to loan from my employer but surprisingly my relative called me and told me that she had transferred the money to me. Indeed, ask and we shall receive. It may not be how we want it or when we want it. But for sure it's for the greater good that only God knows. I can only thank God through my relative from abroad who selflessly send me money. Today, I whenever I am to lose hope, I just hold on to my faith. God answers prayers in His own time and way.

MAKE A CONNECTION My dear friends and fellow Rotarians, Every year, we are asked to motivate, inspire, and challenge our clubs to do the best they can and achieve as much as they can. DISTRICT GOVERNOR This year is no TONY BAUTISTA different. We are asked to do better. RI President Sakuji Tanaka wants us to focus our club energies on the 3 priorities of RI Strategic Plan: to support and strengthen clubs, to increase humanitarian service, and to enhance Rotary's public image and awareness. This year, I want you to make a connection! Among your members, clusters, and partners in service. It could be during a meeting, while attending district functions, when doing projects, or when linking through your social network. To connect is to bond, join, unite, link, relate, touch base, tie in, put together two or more pieces/people. To connect is to talk to one another, work with one another, touch each other, and always understand each other. Rotarians and clubs connecting with a common goal of helping others are more capable to perform better, stronger and readier.
