N college we were taught how to write a short term paper or a thesis. We learned how to make the introduction or statement of the problem, the body or the thesis and antithesis and the conclusion or resolution but most importantly, we learned how to acknowledge our sources from where we copied some parts of our work. If one were to write a short paper on a specific topic, one needs to at least acknowledge the source by making an end note where you enumerate all the titles of the book you used, their authors, their publishers, year of publication etc. Failure to do so would adversely affect you work.

Editor’s Note

However, when writing a thesis, one has to master the skill of properly acknowledging one's sources because thesis writing is so highly technical that a misplaced quotation mark or a comma would affect the meaning of a sentence and more importantly, would affect one's grade. Also, in acknowledging one's reference, one MUST make the footnotes. This makes thesis writing too technical because footnotes are very essential in writing thesis. Failure to acknowledge, however, one's reference or sources would spell doom on one's work and chances are, your work shall be returned or you get a failing grade due to PLAGIARISM. Plagiarism, according to dictionary.com, is “an act or instance of using or closely imitating the language and thoughts of another author without authorization and the representation of that author's works as one's own, as by not crediting the original author.” Lately, some people in the government were accused of plagiarism or copying one's ideas, projecting them as their own and not acknowledging their sources. One of the supreme court justices was impeached because of this. One senator of the land is being accused of plagiarism not once, but twice. If the meaning of the word, as defined by some dictionaries, is to be taken seriously and strictly, then everybody is guilty of plagiarism to some degree or to a great extent. Every speaker, when making a speech, usually forms his ideas based on the books that he read. Every idea that we have or we share were from what we actually read somewhere. We are just creative enough to paraphrase some passages and deliver them in a different manner. It is certain that even the great thinkers and authors, at some point, committed this “crime”. Is this actually a crime? In the academe, this is a “crime” because you get punished for committing it. However, in the world beyond the schools, this may be frowned upon, maybe tolerable because “everybody is doing it.” “Wrong is wrong even if everybody is doing it and right is right even if nobody is doing it”. From an old adage.

9th Weekly Meeting September 4, 2012 Kuya Maxx Restogrill De Venecia Hway, Dagupan City

A

T almost 2000H, Pres. Tony and IWC Pres. Merla called the meeting to order. Since the meeting was supposed to be presided over by the Inner Wheel Club, most of the parts of the program were assigned to the Anns. IWC PP Tess Bolos led everyone in praying for God's presence and assistance during the meeting, while IWC PP Beth Rosario led the singing of the National Anthem. IPP Nestor acknowledged the visitors specifically IWC Dist. Chair Michelle Zarate-Lioanag and Rtn. Joie Mendoza led the singing of the welcome song. PE Raul Tamayo delivered his 58th and 59th jokes for the joke time as well as the night's chairman who shared a joke that needs deep thought to understand. Pres. Merla first had her President's time where she thanked those who brought their respective spouses and encouraged them to go with their husbands every last Tuesday of the month which has been declared as joint meeting with the Inner Wheel Club. Pres. Tony came next and thanked the RCDD members for responding to the challenge of the District Governor. Officially, the whole of District 3790 is updated in the payments of SAR, a first in the entire Rotary world and RCDD is part of the history. He also reminded the members of the deadline for the submission of solicitations and moved it to September 18, 2012 to have enough time to prepare and print the souvenir program. For the information of those absent the previous

meeting, Pres. Tony announced that as was discussed earlier, he is supportive of the idea to reenergize the Inner Wheel Club of Downtown Dagupan thus, the joint meeting. As has been his practice every time there were guest speakers, Pres. Tony made his president's time as short as possible and not steal the thunder from the speaker. IWC PP Susan Maramba was called to introduce the Guest Speaker, the District Chair of 379 Michelle Zarate-Lioanag. In her message, the district chair spoke the basics of the Inner Wheel, its role vis a vis with the Rotary and purpose of its creation. After her message, PDG Albino Gonzales was called to complement what the District Chair has said and he “warned” those who are using Rotary meetings as an excuse to do some “personal errands.” By and large, the meeting was very lively and informative and I hope next joint meeting, there will be more anns in attendance. At 2145H the meeting was called to adjournment but prior to the banging of the gavel, the community song was sung. Fellowship continued. Those Present were: PP Jermy Bolos Rtn. E had a very good joint meeting the last time and I am happy that the spouses who came seemed so enthusiastic for the warm welcome extended by the “old” timers in the Inner Wheel. If my observation were correct, I would expect more anns joining the Inner Wheel and our goal of re-energizing them would come to fruition. I would suggest then to Pres. Merla to continue to persuade the spouses to attend our joint meetings and on my part, I would “force” the Rotarians to bring their spouses. I would like to thank District Chair Michelle Lioanag for gracing our special and urgent joint meeting and imparting her knowledge with our members. Surely, everybody learned something from the speeches last meeting. I hope that that would not be the last time that the District Chair would attend our joint meeting. We are just two weeks away from our induction and I am now trying finalize everything. However, one of the most important aspect, solicitation and souvenir program, of preparation is being put on hold pending the submission of the ads. As of to date, only PE Raul Tamayo has submitted his solicitation. Thank you PE Raul. I am also in close coordination with Sec. Benjie to corner the advertisements of the current members of the Sangguniang Panlungsod and we are quite successful with it. Thank you Sec. Benjie. In addition to the souvenir program, we are now in the laying-out stage and so it is imperative that we submit our ads early for us to have enough time for proofreading and early release of the same. Our club needs those ads not solely for our induction but for the sustenance of our future projects as well. With our collective effort, I am certain that we will be able to, once again, overcome the challenge and have a successful induction. I am counting on everyone.

CONQUEROR’S REVELATION PP NORMAN VELASCO

An Anger That Saves As Filipinos, expressing our anger is not an ordinary thing. We were raised up in a Christian environment. So generally it's no wonder that most of us grew up soft-spoken – with an image of a reserved type to that extent.

However, I told them to continue on what I have told them to do. But nobody was moving yet because they were confused. It came to the point that I could no longer contain my anger. To me it’s no longer an issue of following the protocol But anger is a human emotion that visits us now inside the office since our bank was declared and then. I had my own share, and like bombs closed so I had the impression that our link as they explode when I try to keep it to myself for superior-subordinate relationships has been closed as well. long. Once, I had a difficult scenario in my previous job as a bank manager which was shut down. My first impulse when we were informed that our bank will be on a holiday is to protect my clients and be able to withdraw their money. So, I immediately called a meeting and organized my officers and staff to look into the record on who will be affected. Of course the ones who have deposits that exceeded the required insurance will have to be addressed. While in the Process, one of our superiors in the head office called up and told to my assistant to instruct our staff to stop from what they were doing as they were negotiating with a bigger bank to buy us. And since the instruction came from higher ups, contrary to my previous instruction, they stopped the process.

Surprisingly, I exploded. I yelled to my people to continue to do with my instruction to save our clients, lest our clients will put the blame on us get back to us. I was shocked that I could be that angry. Thankfully, at the end of the day, all of our clients were able to recover their deposits thru Phil. Deposit Insurance Corp. (PDIC). It was a most excruciating moment for me. I couldn't eat and sleep well. But thank God, at that time I had friends who helped me process my feelings. Most of all, I was able to say, preserved my clients who are friends as well.

Rotary Community Corps Rotary Community Corps (RCC) is a group of nonRotarian men and women who share Rotary's values and commitment to service. With the guidance and support of their sponsor Rotary clubs, RCCs plan and implement projects that address issues affecting their communities such as health, literacy, safety, employment, and the environment. They may also help support Rotary club service efforts. Currently there are more than 7,000 Community Corps in over 80 countries. The goals of the Rotary Community Corps programs are to: • Develop partnerships between Rotarians and nonRotarians in a joint effort to enhance their community. • Support community members who proactively address community needs, recognizing their unique ability to identify the most pressing concerns and suitable methods of implementation. • Promote sustainable solutions to community needs by engaging a broader segment of the community in developing and implementing focused service projects. RCCs empower community members to initiate and implement their own service projects and facilitate collaboration between Rotarians and non-Rotarians in their community development endeavors. RCCs can flourish anywhere in the world where Rotary exists. Organize an RCC An RCC must be sponsored by a Rotary club in the same Rotary district. Discuss your ideas for starting an RCC with the club president and service projects committee, outlining the need and benefits. Once the club has agreed to sponsor an RCC, you can move ROTARY CLUB OF DOWTOWN DAGUPAN

The Sensitive Pope The Pope was finishing his sermon. He ended it with the Latin phrase, “Tutti Homini” - Blessed be Mankind. A women's rights group approached the Pope the next day. They noticed that the Pope blessed all Mankind, but not Womankind. The next day, after His sermon, the Pope concluded by saying, “Tutti Homini, et Tutti Femini” - Blessed be Mankind and Womankind. The next day, a gay-rights group approached the Pope. They said that they noticed that he blessed man kind and woman kind, and asked if he could also bless gay people. The Pope said, "Sure". The next day, the Pope concluded his sermon with, “Tutti Homini, et Tutti Femini, et Tutti Fruiti.”
