AST Tuesday, we were not supposed to have a meeting because on the same week we will have our induction which could take the place of our regular meeting. However, as announced earlier and due to some urgent matters, I decided to hold a meeting just the same to tackle important matters in relation to our induction and our District Governors's directive to discuss the ABC's of Rotary. As discussed, everyone will have the chance to actively participate in the discussions. The schedule on when we shall start will be discussed.

Before our induction, the officers of our club had Governor's visit with DG Tony Bautista. Among the concerns of the governor was the reasons for losing some members of our club. Also, our club was asked to contribute at least $3,500 to the Rotary Foundation. This is a tall order for me, however, I am positive that we will be able to achieve this goal. There were many other things discussed with the governor but the central point of discussion was the community projects and the Rotary Foundation. Right after the visit of the Governor, I immediately prepared for our induction at 7 pm. First of all, I would like to thank everyone for coming to this momentous event. Very seldom do we see most of our Past Presidents. We seldom see our PPs Silver Castillo and Bong Catabay. Also, PP Mike Graham & Rose showed up. This is a very rare situation where the pioneers of the club will come together in support of the president. Thank you very much for coming and for adding meaning to this momentous event. Our induction was generally according to plan. Of course, we could not execute all the plans exactly as we wanted them to be but in general everything went well and we had a colorful induction. Credit goes to everyone. The event would not have been successful without the support of every member. On a personal note, I would like to thank Rtn Joie Mendoza for helping me in the preparation, planning and execution of the plans for the induction. Also, I would like to thank Rtns Beep and Leonard for accepting the task of masters of ceremony. You have done a great job. Also, thank you very much to Jenie and Ronnie for helping in the preparation of the AVP and other tasks I requested them to do and for Ysah and Chai for helping in the registration and the program proper. I also would like to appreciate Asst. Treasurer Conrad for helping me in the collection of assessment and record of collections. Without you, we could not have been successful. Thank you very much. The president's success is also the clubs success and my failure is also the clubs'. I would like then to ask you to help the club in every endeavor. I would like to congratulate our very own PP Marcos Perez for having been selected as the “Ulirang Pamilya� award by the Sanggunian. For every award a member gets from any organization, we are the collateral beneficiary of recognition. Congratulation PP Mar for giving honor to your family and to our club. With your achievement and that of your family, we also become part of the award by virtue of our being Rotarians in RCDD. Again, I would like to thank everyone for contributing to the success of our induction. God bless us all. During the Governor's Visit, the governor emphasized the urgent need to Rotarize every member for he believes most Rotarians doesn't know the basics of Rotary. AST Saturday marked another milestone in the rich history of our club, the Rotary Club of Downtown Dagupan. The new set of officers led by our president Tony were inducted into office. The induction was actually our regular meeting in lieu of last Tuesday's meeting. However, that Saturday meeting was very special because we had as our guest of honor our District Governor Tony Bautista, several PDGs and district officers and Rotarians from all over the district to witness the turn-over and induction. And so, at exactly 1937, the joint induction ceremony was called to order by outgoing president Nestor Zabala. Thereafter, PP Norman Velasco rendered the invocation by singing “Amazing Grace” immediately followed by the singing of the national anthem. Rtn. Leonard, one of the masters of ceremony that night was tasked to acknowledge the dignitaries and visiting Rotarians, and to shake off his jitters, he dared every club to shout to the top of their voices “PEACE” as their clubs were called. After calling the last club in the list, all the members of RCDD belted out the welcome song to welcome the guests and visiting Rotarians. Just after the singing of welcome song, Pres. Nestor called for the suspension of the program for the dinner to be served. In the middle of the dinner, the AVP was played to give tribute to the outgoing president Nestor and introduce the incoming president Tony. The AVP highlighted the high points of Pres. Nestor's term as well as Pres. Tony's initial three months marked by punctuated by the worthwhile projects.
At about 2030, the induction was called back to order and immediately Rtn. Beep Tan called PP Norman to introduce the Guest of Honor & Speaker for his speech. Before delivering his message, Dist. Gov. Tony Bautista called his Peacemaker Presidents in front to be acknowledged. Dist. Gov. Tony made some announcements then proceeded with his speech. First to be inducted by Past National Chair Lily Yuchongtian were the new members of the Inner Wheel followed by the IWCDD officers led by Pres. Merla Gonzales who were inducted by Dist. Chair Michelle Lioanag. DGN Dennis Norman Go charged the new members of RCDD while DGE Linda Winter inducted the following Rtns. Beep Tan, Benjie Tan, Rod Coquia, Din Rocero, Rene Farro, Alex Domantay and Joel Macaranas. The Council of Past Presidents, with IPP Nestor as president, were inducted by PDG Ces Mendoza followed by the charging of the new officers by PDG JP Cadaing. Now came the highlight of the event, the induction of new officers with Pres. Tony Manuel as the man of the hour. Joined by her family, he was sworned in to office to lead our club for the Rotary Year 2012-2013. Right after he was inducted and Pres. Nestor delivered his valedictory address, the gavel of authority and responsibility was turned over by the now IPP Nestor Zabala to new Pres. Tony Manuel. Right after his acceptance of the gavel, he was called to give his inaugural speech. Pres. Tony, on his way to the podium, was serenaded by the song Mr. Suave to every ones delight. Pres. Tony, in his usual cool manner, rendered his message giving out the challenge to all those present to always respond to the opportunity to serve. As he thanked those who have helped him prepare for the big event, he challenged the members to rally behind him and make leading our club as simple and easy as possible in order to ensure continuity of leaders. Just before Pres. Tony finished his speech to adjourn the joint induction ceremonies, he asked everyone to stand up and sing “Let There be Peace” which made the ceremony more meaningful until the end. At around 2220, the joint induction was finally adjourned. By and large, the affair was a success and kudos to everyone. ROTARY CLUB OF DOWTOWN DAGUPAN

VERY single Rotary year we attend membership development seminars. We come up with attractive ways of inviting other professionals into our fold and yet, every single year as well, we lose almost the same number of those we recruited. There is no question that we do a good job inviting people into joining Rotary, but we cannot say the same about keeping them. Rotary clubs are just like business enterprises trying to sell its products to potential customers. The basic reason to buy is if a product addresses a need or a desire. In our Rotary clubs, do we address our members' needs and desires? Are our products, in this case our fellowship and community service projects, exactly what our customers want to buy? If a customer finds what he or she needs or desires in a product, that product suddenly acquires tremendous value. There is a fit between product and customer. Comparatively, if a Rotarian, potential or regular, finds what he or she needs or desires in a Rotary club, then there is a perfect fit. The greater the value, the better the fit, and vice versa.

Then we constantly complain of lack of attendance in our meetings.“A quality Rotarian is a Rotarian that is having fun.” It is time to examine our weekly meetings from our customers' point of view. Is this what they might want, something that would be attractive to them? It is also time to examine our weekly meetings from our members' point of view. Are our weekly meetings exciting enough for us to attend them week after week? Do we give chance to everybody to be part of the programs and activities and give everyone a sense of belonging? Club meetings need not be expensive to be exciting. We simply need to offer what our Rotarians want. Start by examining the demographics and composition of present members and find out what will make them enjoy our meetings.

In Rotary, we have unarguably done countless projects serving the needs of all sectors of our community. We might just even be the best provider in the Philippines because of the sheer magnitude of our network. Which brings to the fore two questions: 1) Have we made a significant difference to the community that we serve? 2) Are we still eager to fork out an extra peso to sustain so many projects or are we already experiencing donor's fatigue? It is imperative to focus and plan community service projects to be more efficient and take into consideration sustainability. We become more motivated if we see the changes in the lives of the people we help. Planning is just as important as implementation. Have we involved all our Rotarians in our service projects? Being part of the success of any endeavor is a reward by itself. When a Rotarian sees this value, giving more can be easily motivated. If you always do what you you've always done, you'll always get what you always got. Because of the same programs that we do again and again we get the same results again and again. I challenge all Rotarians to innovate and look beyond the obvious. The changes we want are right in front of us. Focus internally and see how weekly meetings and community service projects can be innovated. Create value for current and future Rotarians. Find what fits their needs. Always aim to improve our products to make them relevant to the people we target to buy into our Rotary Clubs. Remember: “The greater the fit, the greater the value.”
BE PREPARED WITH the 4 way test of Rotary and its ideals, I believe Rotarians are Christians, and if we are Christians, this article is for you. I too received it from my colleagues abroad. Please read on: A pastor was traveling last week, he saw an old man, and gave him a lift. While they were going, the old man said; my son, do you know what happened in Heaven last night? The pastor was so terrified and hurriedly parked and asked; Sir, are you sleeping? How did you get the information about Heaven? The Old man said; last night in Heaven God became very angry with man and asked the Angels to blow the trumpet. The angels picked up the trumpets and as they were about to blow it Jesus fell down and began to plead in tears. The blood that came out of His hands and body were very fresh. He told God that His death shouldn't be in vain. God couldn't stand the pains of the saint and the wickedness of the evil ones. So He said; “AM GIVING THEM THEIR LAST CHANCE.” Jesus then turned to the angels and told them to move down in their numerous numbers to tell the world that “THE END IS NEAR, JESUS IS COMING VERY SOON.” The pastor (sweating and crying) asked; sir, how did you know this?. The OLD MAN replied; I am one of the Angels sent to the World. Please use every medium of communication to send this message. No time to waste, please! And the old man disappeared. One page after another, he pointed out the bride arriving at the church, the entrance, the wedding ceremony, the recessional, the reception, etc. “Now do you understand?" he asked. "I think so," she said, "is that when mommy came to work for us?"
