How to Choose Your Pharmacy If you are like most people, you probably did not choose your pharmacist, you chose your pharmacy.
Why choose a pharmacist? Health care is changing. Medication therapy is becoming an increasingly important part of treatment. A number of innovative medications are being developed. Yet even with these new medicines, it is estimated that half of all prescriptions written are taken incorrectly. This accounts for more than $100 billion in hospitalizations, medical expenses and lost work days. So, what can you do to help yourself and your family? You can take a more active role in your own health, by choosing the right pharmacist to join your health care team. Even if you aren’t currently taking prescription medications, you may want to seek a pharmacist’s advice concern ing all your non-prescription medication needs.
Check out your pharmacist’s credentials Like other health care professionals, pharmacists are required to meet certain professional licensing criteria. In addition, pharmacists are required to complete continuing education courses to renew their license to practice. These requirements vary state by state. But what else should you know about your pharmacist? In selecting a pharmacist, you may want to begin by asking about their professional background and training. What is the pharmacist’s “track record?” What kind of “credentials” does this pharmacist have? Questions may include: How many years has the pharmacist been practicing? Does the pharmacist have any advanced training in working with patients who have specific health conditions? Does the pharmacist offer any specialty services such as patient compliance management or medication reviews? ls the pharmacist actively involved with health organizations in your community?
Look for a pharmacy provider who offers more
Your pharmacist may also be able to offer you important health care services, including: Health care screenings designed to help detect the warning signs of health problems in their early stages. Wellness programs aimed at disease prevention. Patient counseling and compliance programs to help you stay more informed about your prescription care while maximizing the bean fit . sou receive from these products. Patient monitoring programs designed to help patients track the success of their medication treatment. Health information such as videos, booklets and health quizzes about high risk health problems and pharmacy products. Assistance with prescription insurance claims for individuals with major medical insurance, including filing claims on behalf of customers and accepting assignment of benefits to help minimize out-or pocket expenses.
The role of the pharmacist on your health care team In addition to a pharmacist’s credentials, consider how your pharmacist may interact with you concerning the use of your prescription medications. Here are some suggestions for finding a pharmacist who is dedicated to helping you. Your pharmacist should: Offer you time: time to listen and to understand your personal pharmacy needs and health history. Maintain a medication “profile,” or record of all medications you regularly take. Explain how to use your medications, what they are intended to do, how they’ll make you feel,
and what to do if you have problems. Your pharmacist should be your medication manager and your patient advocate, acting as a link between you and your physician.
How can choosing the right pharmacist help me? By developing an ongoing relationship with your pharmacist, you will gain an ally to help you and your family stay healthier. Start your search with the following steps: Ask a friend, family member, co-worker or physician to recommend a pharmacist. Ask about the pharmacist’s credentials and track record as a pharmacy provider. Ask about the other services the pharmacist offers. Ask questions about any medication concerns you have. See if the pharmacist makes the time to talk with you and provide the answers you need. Remember, you are responsible for protecting your health. Take an active role in selecting all your health care providers and participate with them in monitoring your care. When it comes to choosing a health care provider, like your physician, you make your decision with care. You may get several referrals, speak to friends, relatives or co~workers to see if they were satisfied with the care they received. You check the areas of specialty, the credentials and the “track record” your physician might have. You do your homework because it’s important to find the care you need to help you stay healthy. If you have a health problem, this decision may be even more important. Have you ever thought about how you chose your pharmacist? If you are like most people, you probably did not choose your pharmacist, you chose your pharmacy. It may be time to think about this choice a little differently.

How to Choose the Best Retirement Community for Your Needs These days, more Americans are remaining active into their retirement years. They are searching for communities that match their lifestyles and goals for relaxed living. If you are in the market for a retirement community, there are plenty of things to consider. This retirement community will hopefully become your home. It is important to choose a vibrant place, with plenty of parking and recreational activities. Here are some aspects to consider before making a financial commitment to a living facility. Community Activities and Parking Many senior citizens want to keep their energy levels up during their retirement years. They are more health conscious and see how an active lifestyle leads to a long life. Many seniors enjoy golf, tennis, swimming and walking. Any prospective retirement community should have easy access to such activities. Other seniors enjoy arts and crafts, board games, dancing and organized activities. Taking part in a social events can provide opportunities to make new friends. Research what kinds of social events are organized within the retirement community. Also, find out if the community has ample opportunities for residents to travel to theaters, museums or shopping malls together. Parking is another important factor when choosing a retirement community. Most people enjoy having family and friends visit, so parking is a necessity. When parking is tight, visitors will be less likely to come. Do not overlook its importance.
Medical Care Facilities Retirement communities should be easily accessible to emergency personnel. Know the location of the closest hospitals, doctors, ambulance services and other personnel. You may wish to restrict your search to communities located near your preferred physician or other service providers. Any prospective community should have a formal emergency plan in place. In addition, check to see if the retirement unit has custom safety features, such as railings in the bathrooms and entranceways.
Pet Policies Pet policies are another feature to consider when investigating potential retirement communities. Some facilities will allow you to bring your pet to live with you while oth-
ers will not. So if you have a pet you don’t want to leave behind, you may be able to bring it with you. Many communities now recognize the health benefits of having pets. Additionally, a park or nearby dog walking area will benefit you and your animal companion, particularly if your pet requires daily exercise. Taking a walk each day will benefit both of you.
Churches, Libraries and Schools Consider how close the community is to schools, sports facilities, and other sites that produce a large amount of traffic volumes and noise levels. Many people prefer to live in less congested, quiet areas during their latter years. Also, think about where the nearest libraries and churches are located, as well as public transportation. Ask whether the community provides its own transportation for residents. Some facilities have their own fleet of minivans and buses. It is extremely helpful for seniors who no longer drive and need to do some routine personal shopping.
The Community Current residents will give you a feel for their level of satisfaction with the community. Talk to them about their experiences and seek candid reviews of the amenities and staff. After all, it is important you feel confident that you have selected a retirement community that fits your personal needs and lifestyles. By taking the time to research multiple facilities, you will undoubtedly find a warm, welcoming facility. You will be able to build lasting friendships and gain the support you need to have fun during your retirement. ď Ž

How to Choose a Good Weight Loss Clinic
O
besity is a common problem in our country. For many Americans, it is a threat to their health. Extra weight can shorten your life span and create a myriad of physical problems, such as diabetes, high blood pressure & sleep apnea. Losing weight is a challenging process, requiring selfdiscipline and dedication. When you need help dieting, a weight loss clinic may be the answer. Trained professionals can educate you on good nutrition, keep you motivated and set a realistic weight loss goal. They will answer your questions and provide accountability. Each clinic has its own approach. Selecting the right program will help you reach your weight loss goals. So many diets create glamorous advertisements using famous people, but that doesn’t mean their plan is the best one for you. Here are some ideas to help you find the best weight loss clinic to meet your needs.
Research and Visit First off, research local weight loss clinics. Visit their website because it will give you a good idea about their
programs. Do you have to purchase special meals? Are meetings and appointments required? Make sure these commitments are convenient for you. Think of other information you might need. Once you narrow down your choices, visit each facility & visit with the staff. Observe the way staff members talk to clients. All employees should be courteous and competent about healthy eating and weight loss strategies. If you have questions, bring a notebook and pencil to take notes.
Plans and Referrals Although each clinic will seem as though it has the only plan that works, you must determine if it is the best program for you. Read what others write about the various diet programs. It will help you to know what others have experienced. Always remember, however, what works for one person might not work for another. Keep your personal requirements in mind. It should be possible to speak with existing clients about their experiences. Ask the clinic staff for referrals. Clinics with good reputations will be happy to provide you with
such a list. Previous clients are often willing to talk about their own experiences, negative and positive. You can also find out if they kept the weight off. A good weight loss clinic will have a follow-up system to assist you in maintaining a healthy life. They should be able to give you their success rate. Clinics offer different levels of support, such as motivation and nutritional assistance. They might also have stress management techniques that can stop you from eating your troubles away. Use your time at the clinic wisely. Create good nutrition and exercise habits. You are not only there to lose weight, you are developing a healthy, lifelong lifestyle. In the end, a good weight loss clinic can go a long way toward helping you succeed. It is easy to stick with a plan when you have the assistance and support of caring staff. Whether you need to lose a small or large amount of weight, it is important to find a safe, effective way to achieve your goals. ď Ž

How to Choose an Urgent Care Center When your physician isn’t available or you need rapid medical attention, your local urgent care center can assist you.
H
ealth problems happen at inconvenient times. You may not have time to ask about various facilities in your area. Now is the time to find the best urgent care center that will help you in your hour of need. Here are some factors to consider when selecting an urgent care center. You will need a center located near your home. Time is of the essence. You will also need to understand the level of care they provide, hours of operation and insurance plans they accept. Find out about your town’s urgent care centers before you need medical assistance. Check the Yellow Pages, your local newspaper or the Internet, or ask your physician for a recommendation. People who live in cities probably have several choices within a short distance. But if you live in a rural area, there might be only one option. Look closely at what the center can offer you.
Anyone with children should select an urgent care facility equipped to treat pediatric patients. The provider must also be comfortable around them. An urgent care center is an excellent backup for the times you can’t see your general practitioner, such as after hours, weekends, or when an appointment isn’t available. Most centers have the equipment to contend with colds, flu, strep throat or an ear infection. They could also help you regain control of your blood pressure. Urgent care providers are typically good at treating simple fractures and stitching wounds. When they don’t have the resources to treat an urgent medical issue, the center will transport a patient to an emergency facility in an ambulance. The urgent care staff will work to stabilize a patient while they wait for transport. The clinic should also be able to connect you with followup treatment and medical services if needed. Handling payment arrangements is your responsibility. You must know if your insurance covers the providers in
the facility. If you have no insurance, flexible payment plans can usually be arranged. Most facilities also accept credit cards, checks and cash as payment. Patients at urgent care clinics usually have good experiences. They appreciate the short wait times. It is especially helpful when you are sick and can’t see your regular physician. You don’t want to to sit in a waiting room all day, nor do you want to suffer for days while waiting for an appointment. At an urgent care facility, you can see a provider, get a prescription and go home to recuperate quickly. In addition to their regular services, many centers are now offering preventive services such as immunizations. Others can assist you in managing chronic problems. Diabetics can often find quick, quality care at an urgent care center. While these facilities can’t solve all of your medical problems, they are an excellent option when you can’t see your regular physician.

How to Recognize the Signs of Heart Attack Signs of a heart attack can be deceiving. You might feel as though you have indigestion or maybe even back pain. Distinguishing the differences can save your life. Signs of a heart attack vary according to gender. If you think you might be having a heart attack, stop whatever you are doing and have someone call 911. Each second is important when treating a heart attack.
Severe Chest Pain
MEN
For men, the first sign of a heart attack is tightness in the chest that lasts several minutes. While everyone experiences minor chest pain every now and then, a person having a heart attack may feel severe chest pressure. The pressure will sometimes shoot up from the chest to the shoulder area, arms and back. Most ordinary chest pains pass when you relax. But during a heart attack, the pain doesn’t go away. Instead, it intensifies.
WOMEN
Heart attacks in women can be more difficult to diagnose. It is important for you to know the differences between how a man and woman feels when experiencing a heart attack.
Chest Pressure A woman having a heart attack will often feel chest pain, just like a man. However, the pain is often lower. It might make some women think they are having stomach pain rather than chest pain.
Shortness of Breath A man having a heart attack might have shortness of breath. He will feel as though he has run up a flight of stairs when he is totally out of shape. This shortness might become so severe that he will feel like he will vomit. Some heart attack victims describe feeling like they have developed the worst flu of their life instantly.
Dizzy Dizziness is caused by a lack of oxygen to the body, particularly the brain. A man having a heart attack might faint due to lack of oxygen.
Teeth and Jaw Pain Experts have discovered that most men experiencing a heart attack will feel pain in their teeth and jaw. This pain typically rates a 7 or above on a scale of 1 to 10.
Cold Sweats Men having a heart attack might develop cold sweats which leave him feeling chilled and clammy.
Frequent Burps Heart attacks often cause acid reflux. A man having a heart attack might respond by burping frequently.
Yawning A man experiencing a heart attack might yawn frequently because the heart is not moving enough blood through the body.
Shortness of Breath Almost six out of 10 women who are having a heart attack feel they are short of breath. Resting might lessen the symptoms in some cases, but not always.
Extreme Fatigue She will often feel unusually tired, as though she cannot get enough sleep or rest. In fact, extreme fatigue can be an early warning sign for a heart attack. It might start several weeks in advance.
Back Pain Women often experience severe back pain during a heart attack. Men seldom complain about back pain when having a heart attack.
Nausea Many women having a heart attack will experience nausea and will often vomit. Doctors do not fully understand why this symptom occurs. Knowing the signs of a heart attack can save a life. Seconds really do count, so seek emergency care immediately. Call 911 if in doubt. If treatment is not sought quickly, a heart attack may be fatal. ď Ž

How to Choose a Physical Therapist Physical therapy helps alleviate pain, weakness and other problems limiting your mobility. It focuses on treating musculoskeletal and neurological disorders. For example, people with back pain can receive physical therapy to strengthen the core muscles in their back. Not only will they feel better, patients may also emerge from physical therapy with a restored, functional body.
M
ost patients visit physical therapists for chronic pain from injuries or if they recently underwent surgery. People with pain in their backs, knees, neck, shoulder or other joints can receive benefits from finding a physical therapist. Insurance companies often agree about these benefits. Most companies require patients to try physical therapy before turning to expensive surgery to fix the problem. In fact, physical therapy can actually negate the need for surgical treatment. After surgery, physical therapy might serve as part of the aftercare and recovery process. For example, when you have surgery to repair a rotator cuff, a therapist can play a huge part in a successful recovery.
People with degenerative disc problems in their backs will benefit from a physical therapy regimen. It can help ease pressure and pain in their lower back. Normally, a problem like this requires surgery, but physical therapy can help patients regain a full range of motion. Physical therapists also provide the best remedy for other injuries. Someone with a stroke will need to practice with a physical therapist to regain feeling and movement. A person who has been incapacitated for an extended period may need physical therapy to regain their functionality. Insurance companies will likely have requirements. You may have to choose a therapy that is in-network, rather than outof-network. Your insurance may also limit the amount of visits they cover.
Once you have narrowed your search to a few potential candidates, inquire about the physical therapist’s previous work history. Don’t be afraid of asking directly about their success rates and potential problems. Also, contact your state board of physical therapy to see if any complaints have been filed against the professional you are considering. The best physical therapists will provide emotional support as well. Treatment and recovery is very hard work, especially for patients in severe pain. When you feel exhausted, the physical therapist will provide motivation. She will not allow you to make excuses. Instead, a physical therapist will push you to your limits, which will aid in your full recovery. The therapist will inspire you to regain your full independence; this
is especially important for elderly people who have problems getting around on their own. It is vital that you feel comfortable with whichever physical therapist you choose. This professional may have to examine sensitive areas of your body to check for swelling or heat. She may also massage your muscles as part of therapy. You should feel at ease and safe during this process. The physical therapist will likely provide you with follow-through exercises at home. It is very important you act on her recommendations. It will help you recover faster. With the assistance of a good physical therapist and your own hard work, you can often make recover fully and enjoy life again.

f you or a loved one has experienced hearing loss, you
are not alone. More than 38 million Americans have some form of hearing impairment. Many people don’t realize they have a problem. On average, it takes seven to ten years before someone seeks help after first noticing a problem. The good news is that there are options for hearing loss. After being tested, the type and degree of hearing impairment will be considered and possible options will be addressed such as surgery, amplification, cochlear implant or other integrated device. The first step is to make an appointment. The initial visit will determine if there is a hearing loss and possible reasons
for it. Options will be presented as well as any follow up visits that are needed. Some audiologists may have a specialty. For example, some professionals see elderly people, others may focus on helping young people. The audiologist might have a special skill, such as cochlear implants. When calling in, you may inquire about the audiologist’s background and specialization. Before making an appointment, consider your goals. You might want a complete hearing evaluation. Perhaps you need a fitting for a new hearing aid or a replacement. Or maybe you need more information about ear care and preventing hearing loss. If you have experienced hearing loss, your relationship with your audiologist should be ongoing. Make sure you
are comfortable with this person as you will hopefully develop a good rapport for years to come. Finally, it is never too early to have a child’s ears checked by a qualified practitioner. Children who have a hard time hearing may have a difficult time in school and could potentially have a fixable hearing loss. Likewise, consider having your hearing checked. There is no shame in getting help for hearing impairment. These problems do not go away by themselves. Getting help for your hearing loss can improve your quality of life as well as help with any communication barriers between you and loved ones. Visiting an audiologist can improve the quality of your life. Contact Rapid City Medical Center ENT/ Audiology department to set up an appointment to discuss your hearing healthcare needs..

How to Choose a Furniture Store
hen deciding on a furniture store to do business with, there are several important factors to consider and many options to decide on. Home furnishings are for most of us, the largest investment after a home and car. Most stores in our area carry a wide variety of styles and price points suitable for almost any dĂŠcor. Better
furniture stores will have everything necessary to completely furnish a room, including lighting, area rugs, window treatments, bedding, and accessory items. When shopping for furniture, inquire ahead of time about shipping and delivery policies. Some stores have a no return, noncancellable policy on everything. Ask friends and neighbors about their experiences with
stores. It is wise to choose a store with the reputation of good customer service and return policies. The internet is helpful in locating stores in our area as well as viewing different websites. You can learn the history of a store and often find customer reviews , as well as information regarding selection and furniture brands.
Another key factor we often overlook is does the store have professional sales associates? Do they know the product’s construction and durability as well as warranty information? Ask if there are interior design services offered? Some are complimentary. In short, the more informed you as a consumer are, the more likely you will be satisfied with your decision. ď Ž

How To Choose A Flooring Dealer
loor coverings are one of the most
important investments you will ever make! Choosing the right store to do business with is equally important.
You want to work with an honest, reputable company with knowledgeable, experienced flooring professionals. Low prices do
not necessarily equal good value. Price is what you pay but value is what you get for your money. A reputable dealer will take the time to find the product that is best for your unique situation. Look in your local phone book or on the internet to find a local dealer that has a
great reputation and has been around for a long time. Ask questions: Can they provide local references? If not, find another store. What is the experience of the sales staff? Do they have trained, experienced installers? Will they come to your home and give a FREE pre-measure? Pre-measuring will
help give an estimated cost. Many consumers choose a floor covering store based on price and only later find out they didn’t get a good value. So, make sure when you choose a floor covering store you are looking at the overall value rather than the price tag. ď Ž

How to Choose a Mattress
leep prescriptions are on the rise as we spend less time in bed… and more time awake once we get there! It’s a well documented fact: we are getting less sleep than ever before. Busy schedules, insomnia, restless legs, back pain and unsupportive mattresses are all contributing to the trend; competing with our time to dream—and more importantly—to rejuvenate our bodies at night. Recent stats indicate that about two-thirds of us have clinical sleep issues. Others of us simply have poor nocturnal habits…these are the things we can control ourselves. Like watching TV, using a computer in bed or eating the wrong things before we sleep. But what we tend to underestimate is the value of a good quality mattress to help us fall asleep faster and stay there longer. Many consumers are overwhelmed by the choices available and simply put off making a decision due to confusion.
Here are a few tips to help you choose a mattress and take sleep more seriously! If your mattress is more than 10 years old, it’s time for a new one! Mattress technology has come a long way—with memory foam, cool gel infusions, adjustable foundations—all engineered to relax and support. Look for mattresses with at least a 10 year warranty and ask what the details of the warranty are. Before you enter a store that sells mattresses take some
time to think about what you specifically dislike about your current bed—a good sales associate will ask you this question at the beginning of your visit in an attempt to help fit you properly for a mattress. The better information you give the better your success in choosing a bed. What size do you currently have? Is it big enough? If you are sleeping with a partner, you may want to explore the option of upsizing to a king if space allows. Motion transfer is a common reason we toss and turn 25-35 times per night, thus contributing to less REM sleep. Memory foam or individually pocketed coils are a great choice when motion transfer is an issue. If you have back, neck, leg pain or circulatory problems you should consider specialty foam products such as high density memory foam or latex mattresses as they conform to the shape of the body helping to alleviate pressure points and properly align the spine. These mattresses are also a great option for someone who suffers from allergies. Find a store that has sales associates that are more interested in selling you better sleep than they are in selling a bed. You are looking for an associate that will empathize with your sleep situation and sincerely try to help you make a good decision, in addition to being able to answer your questions. Buy from a store that has a comfort guarantee. Beware of any store that wants to take your money without giving you any assurances in return! Ask about the details of
the sleep guarantee policy. It usually takes 30-45 days for your body to fully adjust to a new sleeping surface, so any store offering 60 days or more is a good choice. It’s important that you give yourself time to adjust, but in some cases the bed ends up being too hard or too soft and is not a good fit for you. Having the sleep guarantee is something that any quality mattress retailer should offer. Price IS indicative of quality! Don’t be afraid of higher priced beds, they will last longer and perform better. Look at interest free finance options to make a low monthly payment. Model close-outs and special factory offers are a great way to get a quality bed at a more reasonable price. Don’t be fooled by any retailer telling you that you are saving 65-80% on anything! These are marketing practices that require the retailer to mark up the product in order to inflate the % of savings. Relax and take your time when you go out to shop. Don’t be afraid to lay down for an extended amount of time and really focus on how the mattress feels. When making the final decision, your own individual comfort preferences should come ahead of any specific technology. Taking the time to make a good choice when purchasing a mattress may be a little time consuming, but in exchange you’ll be healthier, smarter, more alert and even better looking! (Did you know that more sleep can make you look up to three years younger?) So get out there and start shopping, you’ll be glad you did!

How to Choose a Hotel
taying at a hotel is a great respite away from stress or your familiar routine. With great amenities, gorgeous scenery and room service, you can use time to simply lie on a bed and relax. Or maybe you are searching for a place to stay during a family vacation, business or road trip. Perhaps you are in between homes and need temporary accommodations. Whatever your reason for staying in a hotel, you should be careful in your decision-making process. Pick a hotel that has a perfect combination of cleanliness, fun amenities and superior customer service.
Here are a few guidelines to help you choose your hotel: Vacation: If you are looking for a hotel for a family vacation, check online at the reviews and see what other family have experienced from this particular hotel. If there is a bad review, see if the hotel reached out to that particular guest and responded in a way that makes that hotel care about each and every guest. Call the hotel for reservations and gauge the attitude of the person taking reservations and ask questions regarding the hotel and its amenities. Make sure you inquire about any added cost such as Resort fees, parking fees and deposits. If they do have these charges, inquire as to what one would get should they be charged a Resort Fee and does it fit your need based upon your families needs.
Search for a hotel
Event Booking: Whether you looking for a hotel to host a business meeting, an event or a wedding, make sure you do your homework in this area. Some hotels may add extra charges on their meeting facilities such as additional costs for power strips, set up fees, etc. Many hotels have inclusive meeting packages where your audio visual is included with the meeting room rent. Be sure to ask for a complete breakdown of charges to give you a clear picture of fees. Speak with the catering department should you be serving a meal at your function to get a complete summary of costs and ask the hotel to do a sample tasting so you will know how the meal will look and more importantly, how the meal will taste.
Business Traveler: The philosophy of the staff and management as it relates to corporate clients is “the best hotel is the hotel that knows you best”. That being said, a corporate traveler should look at the hotel location, the business center in the hotel, is the hotel set up with wifi, hard wired internet and make sure you check the cost of these services. An on-site restaurant is an added key as this will save you time when you’re on a tight schedule.
Amenities The next thing to consider is the amenities. Visit the websites of each hotel you have chosen and look at the features and services. If you are staying for one-night, you might be looking for a quiet spot to sleep. But every hotel offers different amenities. If you are staying for several days, you might want free access to a fitness center. Some hotels will advertise free continental breakfast but in relation to a hotel that offers you the option to that amenity, you will find that the hotel advertising free breakfast has really built the cost of the breakfast into the rate, so if you do not eat breakfast, you may pay for it regardless.
Conduct an online search for all hotels that are in close proximity to where you will be. If you have a meeting in a city, for example, you should look for hotels in the area of your destination. When you are simply looking for a vacation hotel, be sure to look for a facility in a central area. It is likely that there will be many hotels in your desired area. Choose the five closest hotels. That way, you will not have to drive or walk far to reach your ultimate destination. While online site will promote last minute deals and savings over the regular rates, your best deal is to call the hotel directly and ask for the Best Available Rate or if you are a member of a travel club such as AAA or AARP, make sure you ask about those discounts. If you are on a business trip, your employer may have an arrangement with selected hotels to provide a discount for employees.
Reviews Customer reviews will give you important insight on specific locations. Let the reviews guide you on how you will spend your money. A good web site for hotel reviews is www.tripadvisor.com The more reviews you read, the better. It will give you a balanced assessment of a hotel. Previous customers can answer questions about the friendliness of the staff and the condition of the rooms. Former hotel guests are typically unafraid of talking about negative experiences at an establishment. The key here is to see if management from the hotel has reached out to the guest, whether they submitted a good review or a bad review, a reputable hotel will generally have a management response. After you have taken all the necessary steps, make an informed decision. The extra time and effort will ensure a pleasant and fun stay. After all, your hotel serves as your home away from home.

How to Choose a Community College C
ommunity colleges are a great way to save money, earn college credits or learn new skills. Many people start their academic careers at a community college before transferring to a four-year institution. Your local community college may even have a partnership with a university so you could earn a bachelor’s degree right on campus. These colleges are also a fantastic option for students with family responsibilities, full-time jobs or other obligations. Tuition is often far less expensive than that at a large university. There are plenty of things to consider when choosing a community college. Location, tuition costs, courses and ease of scheduling are all factors to keep in mind. Research all the colleges in your area. The ideal community college should be no more than 30 minutes away, accessible by car or public transportation. You’ll be more likely to attend classes if it doesn’t take hours to get there. Typically, there is no or very limited on-campus living. Cost is always a major factor. Many community colleges have two levels of tuition: one for in-area residents and one for out-of-area residents. If you live in the same county as the community college, you can expect to pay a third to half of what others pay. There might also be financial assistance available. Local businesses concentrate their resources on their local community colleges. They might provide scholarships for students. State and federal grants and loans can also help defray the costs of higher education. Courses are another consideration when choosing a community college. Make sure your community college is accredited or has a cooperative partnership with local or state universities. There is nothing worse than attending college for two years only to find your credits aren’t transferrable. If you find several community colleges offer your choice of major, research their internship program and reputation. Do they have employment statistics? Choosing a college with a higher employment rate could benefit you after graduation. Most community colleges post their class schedules online or include a flyer with the local newspaper. You can also pick up a course catalogue from the college itself. Review their offerings. If you need to take classes in the late evening, are there enough available to make it worth attending that college? What about distance learning opportunities? Many colleges let students earn certificates or degrees completely online. Non-traditional students may need a more flexible schedule. Classes may be offered several days of the week, in the morning or evening. Many college have weekend classes. Students who need to graduate quickly may take accelerated programs. You might simply need to earn a certification for a current or future job. Community colleges offer these programs as well. Be sure to ask your employer about tuition reimbursement. Consider your lifestyle and personal requirements when choosing a community college. It is likely that a community college in your area will fit your needs.

How to Choose an Auto Repair Shop
E
very car requires repairs or service at some point. It doesn’t matter whether the car is new or used. It may need tires, oil changes or a new engine. Having a good relationships with a high-quality auto repair shop will save you time and hassle when your vehicle needs an immediate repair. If you are unsure about a particular shop, take your car in for a regular tuneup and maintenance. After all, it will help the car run better. Since your car needs preventive maintenance anyway, take it to get an oil change or air conditioning check. It is a great way to see if the shop will offer you great customer service.
Here are some other things to keep in mindwhen looking for an auto repair shop: Most people choose an auto repair shop based on a referral from friends, family or coworkers. Less than 40 percent of new customers are walk-ins. The Better Business Bureau can inform you about the repair shop’s performance and reliability. People who travel often usually work with shops that offer a national warranty. For instance, a warranty of 12,000 miles or 12 months is handy for issues that keep cropping up, particularly in older cars. Ask about the shop’s range of services. They will need the latest technology to
diagnose problems with newer cars. For example, can your prospective shop handle brake systems, electrical components and warranty repairs? Do they provide a shuttle service while your car is being repaired? Inquire about their customer satisfaction policy. Look around the shop. Is the equipment in good condition? Is it clean, well-lit and organized? These factors all contribute to a level of professionalism, gaining customers’ trust, and to optimal service. Look for brand names and proper certification. Does the auto repair shop use brand-name parts? These parts are engineered to meet the manufacturer’s specifications and will likely come with a
warranty. Are the auto technicians certified by a specific car manufacturer, the National Institute for Automotive Services or Automotive Service Excellence? Compare the services and fees of each shop in the area to find out the average price ranges. Don’t pick a shop based on cost; poor repair work will mean higher costs in the long run. Once you have found a shop you trust, establish a good working relationship with your mechanic. When you have great communication, getting repair work completed will be less painful.

How to Choose a Used Car Dealer B
uyuying a used car can be a challenge. You need to find a quality used vehicle without paying more than you have to. You also don’t want to be stuck with a lemon. It is wise to consider purchasing a service contract when you invest in a new used vehicle, this can be a good idea to protect you from costly future repairs. Before setting foot in a dealership, you can do some online research. Being well-informed will help you avoid unnecessary hardship. Many dealerships have very good web sites to help you research what you are looking for. Have a good idea of what you want before speaking to anyone. Then follow these tips to find a good used car dealer.
Choose Your Vehicle Type Know what type of vehicle you will need to help you save time and effort. You may not know the exact make and model, but at least have an idea of the automobile type. Know Your Budget Figuring out your budget is essential. How much do you want to spend? Do you have a down payment? How large of a monthly payment can you afford? The two top resources for researching a used car’s value are Kelly Blue Book (KBB) and the National Automobile Dealers Association (NADA), both of which can be accessed online. But remember, these sites are only guides. No two vehicles are exactly alike, some have been very well cared for one owner vehicles and some can be six owner vehicles that have lived a very hard life. When you look at vehicles, ask about maintenance and previous owner history reports. Many dealers will offer a free AutoCheck or CarFax. Also, some vehicles that are very popular will tend to bring higher prices due to supply and demand. Remember these tips when trying to figure out if a vehicle is priced fairly or not.
