“FINDING COMFORT IN GOD’S PROMISES” One classic Advent Hymn that packs a powerful message is, “Comfort, Comfort, Now My People”. It is a summary of the Messianic prophecy of Isaiah in Isaiah 40. The Scripture promises that God is at work making a way for his people’s sins to be forgiven through Jesus (v. 2), and in doing so is turning the world upside down, or right side up, depending on how you want to look at it.

And Jesus described his mission this way,

18 “The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to set the oppressed free, 19 to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.” Mary describes God’s mission in sending (Luke 4: 16-19) Jesus this way in the gospel of Luke, Part of the message of Christmas is this,

“My soul magnifies the Lord, 47 and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior, 48 for he has looked on the humble estate of his servant. For behold, from now on all generations will call me blessed; 49 for he who is mighty has done great things for me, and holy is his name. 50 And his mercy is for those who fear him from generation to generation. 51 He has shown strength with his arm; he has scattered the proud in the thoughts of their hearts; 52 he has brought down the mighty from their thrones and exalted those of humble estate; 53 he has filled the hungry with good things, and the rich he has sent away empty. 54 He has helped his servant Israel, in remembrance of his mercy, 55 as he spoke to our fathers, to Abraham and to his offspring forever.” (Luke 1:46-55)

if you are in distress, if you are in need, if you are crying out for help from God, God is not far from you. God is with us. God has heard your prayers. He has heard your cries. And he is working at bringing everything together. And we know this because God sent us Jesus, and Jesus is still at work in the world today through the power of the Spirit, making the broken whole, the weak strong, and making all things new.

NOTICE: Elf For Hire The North Pole is looking for quality elves to work this Christmas season. Are you a hard worker? Do you follow directions well? Can you create original toys and designs? If so, apply today! By Mrs. Foshee’s 4th grade students

I would make a good elk because I am good with wood. I could make new football toys. I could make a football player named King Elk as a Cowboy. I could make a football field on a picture of football players. I can make a rare square football bird as a stuffed animal. I could make a Mr. Meow picture when he’s holding a football. I am really creative. I could be able to make Mr. Meow toys. I could make money with Mr. Meow on it. I could make a wood Mr. Meow picture. I could make a Mr. Meow stuffed animal. I am also good with hammers and nails. I can make a house. I can make a little sword. I can make a little fake wood knife. I can make a gun in wood form that is for imaginary zombie games. -Matthew

I would be a good elf. I follow directions. I am a good listener. When Mrs. Foshee, my teacher, tells me to do something, I do it! I also listen to my grandma and grandpa, I listen to my sister! I am creative. I made an invention. I spend some time at home drawing. I hang them up on the wall. I make good drawings. I am a hard worker. I help feed horses. I help my uncle with cows. I get eggs from the barn. I also help lots of animals :) I do all of this on the weekend. Except the egg from barn part! :) That’s why I think I would be a good elf. -Brooke White Horse

If you hired me to be an elf, I would be the best elk the North Pole has ever seen. First of all, I am a leader. Whenever people forget what to do I remind them. I always do extra stuff and

assignments. I really enjoy leading a lot. This is why I’m a leader. Second, I’m very creative. I could make a toy that talked to little kids. I would need a hammer and a bunch of other things that I don’t want to list. I would make a min race car that went 300 miles per hour. As you can see I’m the most creative elf you have ever seen. Last but not least, I’m a follower of directions. Wait not good, great. If Santa assigned me a job to do I could do it in under 3 seconds. I always follow directions in class too… Sometimes. I mean all the time. P.S. Are you going to hire me? Have a good day! -Modes I’m good at art. I do art a lot with my family and it’s very hard but very FUN. Always do art if you have a chance. I’m good at making toys. I can saw and put stuffing in toys. It’s pretty easy to try sometimes its not easy to make toys but I think it would be fun. I’m good with kids. I have a brother. I have to make care of him all the time and it’s pretty easy and fun and I can be very creative. -Shayna If Santa needed to hire a elk I would be perfect for the job. I am hard working. I built a bench with my dad. I also built a rocking chair. I do my chores. I help put up my Christmas tree too. I am creative. I like to draw at home. I like to make snowflakes. I also like to make my own toys. I make paper air planes too. I am helpful. I help my dad a lot. I also help my little brother with his home work. I helped my sister make a paper air plane too. I also helped my mom orga-

nize her jewelry box. As you can see I would be perfect for the job. -Maggie P. A Good Elf I’m a good elf. I’m going to make everyone happy. I should get one present for doing this good thing. I’ll do whatever Santa wants or Mrs. Claus, maybe feed the reindeer or build Frosty again. Seriously, he melts every summer. I built a snowman before. My mom has a picture of it. Plus, how awesome it would be to see Santa. I wonder how much money I make? I make a good toy maker in the Bluestar2, the new very much improved thing. Do you wish to play the X-Box and PS4. This Bluestar2 has them both together. I have a drawing at home what it looks like. I’ll give gifts to the hard worker elves. The work hard and get nothing. Now that’s going to change. All the ties and bows and raping paper for gifts. I’m going to ask every elf they hate and like. I will work slow to get them all coal -Kayden My first reason I would be a good elf is because I like to paint and help other kids. I can help other elves paint. If Santa needs help I would help him do what he wants. I can take care of the reindeer because I love animals. So far I am a good elf, is that right, Santa? I can do a lot of things other elves can’t do. I also know a lot of things elves don’t know. For one thing, elves should not take socks, that is one, but I can name a lot more, but you might be here a long time! Okay, back on track, can I start work or do I have to explain even more? See I can’t even wait to work more. I even can do things without

having to be told all the time. I love to cook and since there is no school on Fridays, that is my day. My favorite thing to cook is smothered burritos. So see, Santa, I’m not only a hard worker but also I can keep you fed. -Sophia I would be a good elf because I’m goo with toys and I like to make my own toys. My great grandpa and grandpa were contractors. I think I would look good in green. I also was born with one pointy ear. I’m also a man who likes to make sleds for the winter. I really like to eat and drink gingerbread cookies and hot cocoa. Now I will tell you how good of a builder I am. I like to make improvements to your sled design. I’m a fan of our toy business. It’s time I tell you how good a cook I am. I like to make a foot-long cookie batch. I also make 12 cookies a minute. -Jonathan I think I would make a great head elf in the art community. My first reason is that I would come up with three toys that only the best kids would get. Their names are Mr. Meow, Mr. Dumhead, and Mr. Bark. The toys talk, and they are so soft, you could use them as a pillow. Kids would love them! The way I would make these is I would have my dad help me with the talking part, and I would stuff it, and use fabric to make them pretty. My next reason is that I could help the other elves make new toys. The elves love my

help, and I would blend right in. I also would get along very well with all them elves. I already make all the presents for my family homemade. My next reason is that I am super-duper creative! (Just ask my friends Hanna, Matt and Modes.) I could probably make 100 toys a month! I would be the perfect elf. I would love helping elves, and they would love me. I even came up with a whole bunch of comic books. P.S. I am super short. All I need are some pointy ears, shoes, some striped pants, and a hat, and I will blend right in. - Sammy Buckwheat Hi guys! My name is Celf. I am just telling you that so that all those bozos who call themselves elves, who are about absurd as snow in the desert during summer. Only real elves get into the North Pole, and the ones not ready in the North Pole just closed their eyes and happen to write the right things. Two words: Not me. All this information is 100 percent true. Don’t listen o those other liars who lie. They have a smell; a smelly smell that smells smelly. I am a real elf. I don’t have that smelly smell that smells smelly. I am not some idiot, nimrod, moron, dip-wad, bonehead, nut-brain, disloyal, dishonest, nerd, dork, and non-elf who puts on a funny costume.

So let’s get started. First off all I work on a ranch. That’s an elf ranch. I am a hard worker. I am, I oh, I eee… I am getting too complicated! Let just say I work hard. I am a very focused worker (not really), but elves should have some goofing around. My next reason is that I am a speedy worker. Santa, what you need is fast workers. Not another slow, fake elf. What? I can’t criticize other candidates? What kind of election is this? (If Donald Trump can criticize Hillary Clinton, why can’t I? You know Barak Obama can’t win this year? The people voted so he couldn’t run! Wait, what? He reached the running limit? Well darn!) Well, my next thing is that I am funny. What? I am to funny….You don’t know anything! You wouldn’t know a thief if it came up to you, poked you in the eye, hopped out the window, stole you most prized possession, skyped you, showed it to you and was asking you to say, well no he did not steal! Well, if you think I wa funny I could inspire other elves to keep working. Yes sireee! I am the right elf! So, you see, don’t listen to those other fakes, listen to ME! The real best elf. - Caleb Rickenbach
