Q: Are their personalities similar? They’re opposites! Riley is like me: full of energy and she loves attention. She’s free-spirited. Ryan is a watcher. She’s more calculated.

Q: How do they interact? Riley thinks she’s the mom, so she bosses Ryan around and corrects her. Nothing gets by her! Q: Do you have time for date nights? After we put the kids to sleep, we’ll have a glass of wine and watch a movie. We fall asleep halfway through, but the effort is there!

im Kardashian is recommitting to Kanye West. Weeks after the E! star confessed to a friend she wanted to end her two-year marriage, West “convinced her” to stay, says a friend. In his plea, the “Fade” rapper — hospitalized in November for what his doctor Michael Farzam dubbed an episode of “temporary psychosis” — told the 36-year-old he was serious about treatment. “Kanye swore he was going to continue with intense therapy,” says the Kardashian pal. “He really wants

KIM & KANYE

STANDING BY HER MAN to get better and will do whatever it takes to get healthy.” MEA CULPA For the Grammy winner, that includes apologizing to those he wronged. The 39-yearold recently called Jay Z to ask forgiveness for insulting him and wife Beyoncé during his Saint Pablo tour. (He said the songstress rigged her 2016 MTV Video Music Awards win, and he later slammed the “Spiritual” rapper for not calling after Kardashian’s Paris robbery.) Then the parents of North, 3, and Saint, 13 months, paid a visit to the couple’s L.A.-area home. “Jay was very reasonable and understood that Kanye wasn’t feeling well when 38

he made the remarks,” says the Kardashian source. “He was forgiving.” The reality star is feeling more understanding too. “She didn’t realize how much of Kanye’s behavior stems from a mental illness,” says the insider. “When he’s doing the things his therapists tell him to do, she is so much happier.” She has even agreed to date nights, including a January 9 sushi outing at Shu in Bel Air. Says the insider, “It has allowed them to reconnect.” JUSTICE? As Kardashian moves forward with her marriage, French police are working to put her Paris robbery case to rest. In a January 9 raid, cops arrested 17 people connected to the crime. At presstime, four had been released and four were charged. “The suspects are beginning to admit their involvement,” says a source. Police have a strong case against the five men (ages 54 to 74) accused of breaking into her apartment and stealing jewelry. “They’ve been able to make matches with the surveillance video,” says a source. “The suspects will struggle to get out of this.” That’s more positive news for the reality star, who has re-embraced public life. Says a source, “She’s in a good place.”

Kate (left, June 12) may see more of Markle (in 2015): A source says the star will be “spending more time in London.”

A ROYAL MEETING Meghan Markle has met her potential sister-in-law after eight months of dating Prince Harry. On January 10, the Suits actress accompanied Harry, 32, to Duchess Kate and Prince William’s Apartment 1A at Kensington Palace in London, where the two women were finally introduced during a chance encounter. (Princess Charlotte, 20 months, was there to greet Markle too!) “Meghan’s so happy she’s getting to know more of Harry’s nearest and dearest,” says the source of the 35-year-old Toronto-based star, who was in town for a few days after a seven-day romantic getaway in Norway with her beau. “The meeting with the duchess went well.”

J

her African American superstar father on a post-9/11 road trip out of New York City. “It honestly makes me want to vomit,” the 18-year-old tweeted January 11. “It angers me.” Sky Arts, the network behind the TV anthology, said they “never intended to cause any offense” and that Fiennes “fully supports” the decison in a Januar 3 apology.

The Feud Flares Up Phoenix and Mara (in 2013) reportedly saw a movie together in L.A. in December.

REEL ROMANCE It’s on! Joaquin Phoenix and Rooney Mara are now dating, according to the New York Post. On January 13, the two were spotted leaving detox center We Care Spa in Desert Hot Springs, California, together and getting into her car. The pair, who played an estranged husband and wife in 2013’s Her, reconnected on the Italian set of 2017’s Mary Magdalene (42-year-old Phoenix is Jesus to Mara’s title role). They may make it a triple play: The 31-year-old actress is in talks to star with Phoenix in the true story of late quadriplegic cartoonist John Callahan, called Don’t Worry, He Won’t Get Far on Foot.

Aaron Rodgers is still far from a family huddle. A source tells Us the Green Bay Packer, 33, and girlfriend Olivia Munn, 36, aren’t happy his dad, Ed, rehashed 2016 reports that the quarterback (right) isn’t speaking to his family (including younger brother and Bachelorette season 12 winner Jordan). The couple “don’t want this public,” says the source, claiming the twoyear rift is “over the actress.” Ed, calling the situation “complicated,” also told The New York Times January 15: “We’re all hoping for the best.”

Sudden Custody Crisis Nearly two years after divorcing, Robin Thicke and Paula Patton ignite a fight for their 6-year-old son

P Thicke (in 2015) and Patton (in 2016) settled on joint custody in their March 2015 divorce agreement.

aula Patton and son Julian’s January 15 visit to the Malibu farmers’ market (where they did juice shots and had fruit tastings) was a bright spot in a dark weekend as she battles Robin Thicke over custody. Two days prior, alleges a Patton source, Julian, 6, “was having panic

attacks over seeing Robin,” who the L.A. County Department of Children and Family Services is investigating for child abuse based on January 3 claims. (The singer, 39, later filed he used “light spanking,” as agreed upon with Patton, but “never exceeded age-appropriate discipline.”) The actress, 41, whose

The family is now in therapy, says the Patton source; a Thicke insider says their lawyers “are working to come to an agreement as soon as possible for Julian’s sake.”

vanka Trump has always had her father’s number. As a 10-year-old at the tony Chapin School on New York City’s Upper East Side, she would sneak into the janitor’s room during recess and use a pay phone to place a collect call to dad Donald’s office at Trump headquarters 27 blocks south. “He would pick up the phone every single time,” the 35-year-old recalled in a July 20 interview with CNN. Not only that, the real estate tycoon would place her on speaker and introduce her to whoever happened to be sitting in his 26th-floor office overlooking Central Park. “It didn’t matter who was there,” said Ivanka. “It was colleagues, titans of industry, it was heads of countries. He’d always take my call.”

Now she has a direct line to the Oval Office. Over the course of her father’s successful presidential campaign, the husky-voiced Seventeen cover model turned Trump Organization executive evolved into his most trusted adviser. “He looks to Ivanka for advice and consultation on almost everything,” notes a close Ivanka insider. That relationship will continue as the 70-yearold assumes his role as

the 45th president of the United States. While brothers Donald Jr., 39, and Eric, 33, remain in New York City to run the Trump business empire, Ivanka is moving to the nation’s capital, where her husband, Jared Kushner, 36, will act as one of Donald’s senior advisers. The mom of Arabella, 5, Joseph, 3, and Theodore, 9 months, may follow suit. She announced January 11 that she’s taking a leave of absence from both the

She then rationally explains other points of view.” Disagreements come with the expansive territory. “Part of the reason we have such a good relationship is because he respects me and because I’m candid in my opinions and I share them, solicited or otherwise,” she explained to CNN. Should Donald take one of his insults too far, “I’ll tell him he could probably do with ratcheting it back.” As first daughter, she’ll push a female-centric agenda. “I’m a huge advocate for women and women’s issues, like child care,” Ivanka, whose website IvankaTrump.com includes a series of profiles called #WomenWhoWork, 3 told Harper’s Bazaar in September. She already helped her dad craft a policy proposal that seeks to provide paid maternity leave and make child care expenses tax deductible. As she explained to the magazine, “In half the country, the cost of child care exceeds the cost of housing.” With stepmother Melania choosing to reside at the family’s NYC triplex penthouse until half brother Barron, 10, finishes the school year, Ivanka will also assume some first lady responsibilities. “She will be at State functions,” Hay tells Us. It’s a role Ivanka has been groomed for nearly her entire life. Mom Ivana, 67, would dispatch a young Ivanka from her lavender bedroom — covered with Jon Bon Jovi and Beverly Hills, 90210 posters — to greet guests during party nights at Trump Tower. “Ivana would always concoct an excuse to be a little late,” Hay notes. “She did this deliberately to train Ivanka to be a hostess and leader.” Her parents’ messy 1991 divorce gave her a crash course in fame. On January 11, Ivanka announced via Facebook that she would step down from management and operations of the Trump Organization and resign from all positions at her fashion brand. But she’s not giving up a paycheck. According to Kushner’s attorney, she will sell her stock and receive a fixed income not based on the business’ profits. Here’s a WTF idea: Reimagine the golly-gee Archie comics as a mystery, giving Riverdale High’s teens dialogue worthy of Gossip Girl and their small town a moody, Twin Peaks vibe. Pop’s Chock’Lit Shoppe is so dimly lit, it feels more like a hideaway for trysting lovers than a greasy spoon! As for the iconic characters, good-guy jock Archie (charming K.J. Apa) now has abs to die for, plucky best friend Betty (an instantly likable Lili Reinhart) hides anger issues, and city-girl transplant Veronica (sharp Camila Mendes) kisses both in the opener. (She reminds prudes that they’re living in a “post–James Franco world.”) The appealing cast deserves full credit for this gambit’s success. LETTERS

TEXTS AND EMAILS

Ü Bette Midler and Barbara Hershey play, respectively, Broadway diva CC and attorney Hillary, lifelong friends whose bond is tested by distance and disease.

Ü On the Lifetime remake (January 21, 8 P.M.), Idina Menzel stars as selfcentered CC (now a sitcom actress) opposite Nia Long’s steely Hillary (still a lawyer).

Ü “Dear Hillary . . .” In the Garry Marshall–directed movie, the friends fill each other in on the details of their lives with missives sent via old-fashioned snail mail.

Ü Did i ever tell U ur my hero??? [kiss emoji] Thanks to iPhones and the internet, CC and Hillary 2.0 don’t have to wait weeks before receiving a response.

ORIGINAL SOUNDTRACK

NEW TUNES

Ü The pair meet as kids under the New Jersey boardwalk. Hillary returns to her San Francisco hometown; after years as a struggling singer, CC hits it big in NYC.

Ü Young CC’s busking at the California seaside prompts Hillary to say hi. Just like in the original, Hillary returns to the City by the Bay; CC, though, calls L.A. home.

Ü Don’t pretend you can’t sing every single word of “Wind Beneath My Wings” and “The Glory of Love,” two of Midler’s showstoppers in the movie.

Ü Menzel belts those ballads — plus “Last Time,” a song from her 2016 album, Idina, and The Pretenders’ “I’ll Stand by You.” Keep the Kleenex handy!

The New Edition Story Want to feel so good through and through? Dynamic music scenes and a solid cast (including Empire’s Bryshere Y. Gray and Stranger Things’ Caleb McLaughlin) anchor this miniseries on ’80s R&B stars New Edition. Coproduced by the band, Story opens with a bang — a brawl, gunfire — after Bobby Brown (Woody McClain) hogs a 1997 reunion show. A shift to 1978 sets the affectionate tone. Drugs and infighting derail these Boston-projects pals but can’t defeat them. (BET, 9 P.M.) JG 58

The only reason this vile thriller doesn’t rate lower is because twist-obsessed auteur M. Night Shyamalan (The Sixth Sense) still knows how to end his films with an exclamation point. Otherwise, welcome to two hours of dreck. James McAvoy plays a man with multiple personality disorder — one of which kidnaps three teen girls and terrorizes them in a basement. In one moment, he’s a lisping 9-year-old boy who wants to play games; in another, he’s a British woman. Toss in a highly unsettling child rape subplot involving one of the victims, and this is an early contender for worst movie of 2017. MARA REINSTEIN

OPENS FRIDAY 1/20

The Founder Ba-da-ba-ba-ba! Moviegoers will be lovin’ this riveting drama of how a Midwesterner turned McDonald’s into a multibillion-dollar industry. In the 1950s, salesman Ray Kroc (Michael Keaton) is bowled over when he travels to a California outpost and sees customers get burgers and fries in

seconds. He asks its owners — brothers Mac and Dick McDonald (John Carroll Lynch and Nick Offerman) — if he can franchise their fast food joint. Boom. It’s a great American success story, except for one tiny detail: Kroc is greasier than the bottom of a McNuggets box. Keaton sizzles playing the man as both a gutsy hustler and conniving megalomaniac. Those golden arches will never look the same. MR

EAT BEAUTIFUL Makeup pro Wendy Rowe’s book tells readers what foods to enjoy (garlic!) and avoid (sugar!) for flawless skin. Her client Sienna Miller called it “a gift.” ($30, amazon.com) USM AG A ZIN E.COM

T KNOW ABOUT ME BY

Ruby Rose

xXx: Return of Xander Cage’s Aussie badass, 30, goes down under for Us

2. My mother wanted to call me Kitinka. Her name is Katia, so she thought it would be cute if we were “Kitty and Kat.” It sounds like a good chocolate bar. 3. When I was 4, I climbed out of a 20-story apartment balcony and was hanging on a pole. They bribed me back inside with food. 4. I played both Oliver and Nancy from Oliver Twist in two separate school plays when I was 8. 5. When I was young, The Lion King was my favorite movie.

6. I dressed as a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle for months in a row when I was 5.

xXx: Return of Xander Cage is in theaters Jan. 20. Rose also stars in Resident Evil: The Final Chapter, out Jan. 27.

7. In my first acting role, I played a daughter buying her mum a Mother’s Day present. My first modeling gig was for fake grass that protects kids when they fall off play equipment. 8. To relax, I skate and surf. 9. I wish I were better at chess. 10. I used to rescue animals. One of the rats I found became a childhood pet named Mango. It lived for five years. 11. I used to skip school to go see movies. I had no money, so I’d pay for one and then sneak into the rest. 12. My mum taught me that trick.

13. Tomatoes are my favorite food. 64

18. I used to sing the Mariah Carey versions of Christmas songs in church. Nobody else really knew what I was doing, but it made me happy. 19. My great-grandmother was a famous German actress named Ellen Bang. Had she not remarried, my name would be Ruby Rose Bang. That is very intense. 20. I’ve had to get stitches about six times but have never broken a bone. 21. My stitches were mostly in my face. How lucky of me. 22. I know how to speak German, although not as well as I used to.

My favorite film is Girl, Interrupted. 24. My favorite color is blue because I think all the red in my name has really turned me off the color. 25. If I weren’t an actor, I’d rescue dogs and have huge dog sanctuary and n the country.

.

I really want to visit that pig island in the Bahamas. . . . Swimming pigs is kind of a dream.

14. I got my first tattoo when I was 16. It was a trade-off by my mum to get rid of my tongue ring that she hated. 15. My favorite animal is a tiger, but I also love seals. They are like big, swimming, hairless dogs. 16. I was in the church choir at St. Mary’s in northern Melbourne starting when I was 10 until age 16. 17. We lived at St. Mary’s.
