What is the Triune Holiday Season? The Triune Holiday Season starts with Thanksgiving, embodies Christmas, and ends with New Year’s Day. All three are an inseparable part of what we call the Holiday Season. All three empower transformation of thoughts and ideas as our lives move into the unlimited possibilities of the New Year. Of course, this is based upon a Christian perspective, however the beliefs of other faiths would apply as well and we, in our New Thought/Ancient Wisdom teaching, honor all people and the paths individuals choose to take. The first holiday of this trio is Thanksgiving and it starts by healing the past. Are you aware that the national Thanksgiving holiday was not started by the pilgrims? In fact, it became a reality because of the writings of Sarah Joseph Hale, a magazine editor whose efforts eventually led to what we recognize as Thanksgiving. Her work persuaded President Abraham Lincoln, in 1864, to proclaim the last Thursday in November as our national day of thanks. He believed the holiday would help heal our country and families divided by the wounds and destruction of the Civil War. He felt that the holiday would promote forgiveness, heal wounds, and bring the citizens together as a single family. I believe that Thanksgiving is one of the most powerful and unique holidays our country has. It is truly spiritual, based on unity and forgiveness. Unlike other holidays, it does not honor an individual or specific event in history. Its purpose is to transform lives and relationships. This first holiday of the triune season provides each of us with an opportunity to release any perceived hurts from the past, forgive ourselves and others, and give thanks for all the Good that we now have. These conscious actions on our parts prepare us for the bursting forth of the Divine Spirit from deep within and then, lastly and most importantly, we are ready for our new life experiences in 2011. Rev. The job of a service station cashier or the waste management worker. They serve on the frontlines of life. I bow to them.

The reflection time after an argument when we look in the mirror and openly receive the Truth about ourselves.

The birth of a baby for we are welcoming a most holy soul into the world. May we always create birth ambiances befitting a Master.

What Is Sacred?... •

The seeking eyes of a homeless man looking for socks in the cold winter. He is a treasure trove of wisdom.

Movement. A graceful glide, an ecstatic dance, a powerful leap, the twitch of a muscle. The Divine lives through them.

Deep lines and wrinkles on an elderly face. They are metaphors for the myriad of profound experiences lived.

A seed. One tiny seed participates in giving birth to burgeoning life whether plant, human or extraterrestrial.

Your voice. It has the power to hurt or to heal, to shake mountains and quicken souls' awakenings.

The utterance of I AM. In its perfect and profound simplicity, it speaks volumes of Truth with only three letters.

A laugh or a giggle. It enlivens, revives and charges the air with healing joy and esprit.

Your manner of being. It has the power to uplift or tear down, to rattle another or heal by its very presence.

All that we call ugly about our bodies–the crevasses, the smells, the broken and the hurting parts. They have the power to engender compassion in us.

Sickness and disease for they gift us with the holy sacrament of samskara,

Your glance. It casts light. It warms and it charms. It gives love and assurance.

Smooth radiant flames burning in a fire pit. If we listen, the Fire Spirit speaks Infinite Wisdom.

Music. We cannot truly live without it.

Everyday

I was raised to believe that everything was sacred. Every rock, plant, and animal was part of the divine, or God. This is a common Native American teaching. I have heard it from my grandmother as well as Cherokee, Ojibwa, and Dakota elders. I remember my grandmother saying that everything had a soul and that this soul was a part of God. Harming anything would upset the delicate balance between humans and the Earth. As a child I took this philosophy seriously as I refused to rip up weeds without first apologizing. I understand the closeness that we share with all beings. I try to see the sacredness in the everyday and nourish it in everyone I meet. It is not always easy as I perform mundane tasks, but it is an important enough act that I remind myself to be mindful of the sacredness that surrounds me. Unfortunately, most people are not connected with this sacredness of the Earth and everyday life. They drive their cars to big buildings filled with artificial lights, sounds, and smells. They lose touch with what is really important. It is not their fault. Our society has driven us away from spiritual connections with the universe. This lack of connection with the Earth is one of the problems we are having today. We talk of oil spills as catastrophes for the fishermen and the economy, but what about the fish or the plankton. What about the individual molecules of water whose connection with the divine has been forever changed? We talk about disasters as separate from us when in fact they are a part of us. The damage we do as a people affects more than what we can see. It affects the cellular level that we can physically see, and it affects everything we can’t see, including the soul of the object.

Holy Basil

As a people we have forgotten what it means to be one with the land and to live our lives as sacred beings in a sacred world. It is not hard to reconnect to this energy if you just listen to the Earth and the universal energies. First, recognize that everyone and everything is truly sacred, then treat everyone and everything like they are divine. One of the herbs I use as an herbalist to help people see the sacred in the everyday is Holy Basil, (Tulsi, Ocimum tenuiflorum). Holy Basil is an Ayurvedic herb that has many uses as a medicine and also has the ability to help us open and see the sacred in everything around us. It helps remove the blinders that we put up to protect us and allows us to see the world fresh and new again. This new perspective, along with meditation and introspection, can help open our eyes to the sacred that surrounds us every day. Pets are known to help lower blood pressure, stress levels and conquer loneliness. They heal us spiritually, helping us focus on something other than ourselves. Spiritually we can love, protect and assist our pets as well. According to author, Tom T. As we search for how to behave with a new compassion and honor, we can always count on the example of those who love us unconditionally. Our pets are the perfect example of unconditional love. They are happy to see us when we walk through the door. They listen to our hopes, dreams and problems without judgment. And they never fail to love us when we fall short of their expectations. It is to you, Solar Brother or Sister, wherever on earth you may live, that a brother from the sacred land of the Maya is speaking, to inform you that the Mayan Spiritual teachers, who dwell in the sacred pyramids, have directed that we must unite to walk the path of the light of wisdom, learn again from the wind, the water, the trees, and the sun, and return to the wisdom of life-giving Mother Earth.

It is important that you study the sacred earth, where body and spirit live in harmony, and through meditation, rites, and sacred chants, ask Mother Earth the name of the original dwellers of the area where you now reside. If for some reason, you do not obtain an answer, ask the stones, the trees, and the animals who those people were and, when you have their name, announce to them with great respect that a school will be established in that area for the purpose of revealing the mysteries of the knowledge deposited by them in that sacred area.

have kept this message deep within my soul for many years, but the ever-increasing ecological damage that afflicts Mother Earth has prompted me to release it. When the human race begins to slip into the darkness of ignorance, oblivion, and despair, it will be the wisdom of the seven brothers of our Father Sun that will shed the great light of wisdom in order to awaken the powers that have remained dormant in human beings.

To understand the work to be done with our sacred earth, we must understand the four apparent movements of the sun with respect to the northern hemisphere (two equinoxes and two solstices). The 13 annual moon cycles must also be taken into account. Each cycle consists of four phases: full moon, waning moon, new moon, and waxing moon. In alignment with these cycles, we are to work positively with this sacred energy, and we can send it, together with our message, to any corner of the world.

For many moons and suns, mankind has been disoriented. In these modern times, it is with sadness that we see how ordinary human beings are manipulated and consistently forced into the abyss of physical and spiritual destruction, or simply used as experiments, by a few groups that control the majority of mankind.

The Great Spirit will also tell us how we can better understand Mother Earth to receive her teachings, as such teachings will come from the clouds, the wind, the birds, the butterflies, and the flowers. In this manner, this natural wisdom, together with the essence of sacred mathematics, will be conveyed to the sacred human race.

The time for the great change has come. The word for us to return to the ancient temples has been received from the cosmos. It is here and now that the great Spirit is beginning to call us back to the magnetic sites.

All that exists on Mother Earth has essence as well as spirit. To the Maya, essence and spirit are one and the same and their never ending cyclic language tells matter how to act to give way to the cyclic changes.

In forgotten lands the ancient temples will flourish again, the white roads of the High Initiation will be walked on again, roads leading south, north, west, and east. Thousands of people will walk these roads under the celestial vault, heading for the point where the sun rises, awaiting the solar wind. They will hear the solar wind whisper by night, speak with the trees, move as the breeze through dwellings to purify the skeptics, give movement to the clouds, and, when the solar wind reaches those people, it will gently touch their faces to let them know that it is time for the initiation that will come from the sea and from the sky.

My uncle, Don Beto, explained this to me many years ago in a simple manner. “Hunbatz, remember the pyramids at X Wenk’al. That site is sacred to us, the Maya. Our physical roots are in that ancient site and it was there that our ancestors understood many laws on all that exists from the Great Spirit. In X Wenk’al, as well as in hundreds of pyramids on this continent, our ancestors performed ceremonies to honor all that was visible and all that was not visible.” My uncle’s expression then turned sad. I respectfully asked him the reason for such change. There was a sad tone in his voice as he answered, “The way things are changing makes me very sad. Modern civilization

Hunbatz Men – ...... by Day Keeper Itza Maya Tradition is losing respect for all that comes from the Great Spirit.” He continued, “Many of the different animals that I used to see around this jungle are physically gone, the big trees are gone too. Everything is disappearing physically and my spirit grieves for this reason. I always implore the sacred Hunab K’u that we are not left without the essence-spirit of all that is gone and that, some day, He sends again the physical beauty we no longer see.” Then I understood that, through this sacred site, Mother Earth was trying to communicate with intelligent, open-minded human beings who could understand the language of sacred geometry in its mathematical and vibrational aspects. At each sacred site I visit today, I implore Father Sun and Sister Moon and, when in meditation, I speak to the heart of Mother Earth and ask for her advice as what can be done in order not to lose her essence and her body. I invite everyone to do likewise. I still remember my uncle’s sadness over the animals and trees that were gone and I too, feel sad. When you, Solar Brother and Solar Sister, notice that in the area where you live the animals and the trees begin to disappear, you will realize that we are gradually facing isolation; the life-giving spirits are disappearing, the spirits that support this blue planet are being lost to another dimension. Should all essence-spirit be gone, Mother Earth may exhale her last sigh. Without her essence, her body may disappear and we all may pass to the memory of what once was here. The purpose of Mayan initiation work at the ancient sacred sites is to determine what can be done to avoid the aforementioned, as we were sent to this planet to care for it and to love it. Let us ask Hunab K’u to show us the way and, through meditation, come to understand the calendar cycles, which will enable us to pinpoint our errors. All are invited to learn to adjust their lives in accordance with the sacred Mayan calendars and ask Mother Earth what is their cyclic responsibility so that we can all live in harmony with the essence-spirit of Mother Earth. This is the only way to preserve the spirit of our planet. Growing Your Own by Lekoma Akate Many have concerns about what is in the food they eat. Has it been sprayed with toxic chemicals? What was in the soil where it was grown? Was it artificially ripened with gasses? How long ago was it harvested? These are all legitimate concerns. The only way to know for sure is to grow your own. Most people think they can't grow their own vegetables and herbs because they lack a green thumb, don't have space, don't have time, or some other seemingly good reason. Well, anyone can grow organic vegetables and herbs with only a little time and space! Vegetable and herb plants require at least six hours of direct sunlight. This is usually the most limiting factor. If you do not have a place that gets at least six hours of direct sunlight, perhaps you could get together with a friend who does and grow together. Good quality soil is the key to good quality organic vegetables and herbs. The soil should have a healthy population of beneficial bugs, both microscopic and visible. tion from your local county Extension Office. If you have the space in the yard that gets enough sunlight, I recommend a raised bed. Raised beds allow you to add good quality soil over existing soil to provide your vegetables with more nutrition. Or if you have an existing flower bed, you can transform that bed into an edible landscape. Many vegetable and herb plants can double as ornamental. There are many varieties of cabbages, greens, cauliflower, peppers, cucumbers, beans, oregano, rosemary, sage, etc. that can add color and texture to your landscape. In addition to a beautiful landscape, you get to eat it, too.

Not only is eating your homegrown vegetables and herbs more healthy and more tasty, it is therapeutic to work with plants, they have a way of taking your stress away similar to pets. It is also rewarding to go into your garden to pick supper. Happy Gardening!

If you do not have enough space in your yard for a garden bed, you might have enough for a container garden. Storage containers, large flowerpots, or most any container that is clean will work. Containers require more frequent watering than in ground gardens, otherwise, the same principles apply. Another consideration is irrigation. When planning an irrigation system for vegetables or herbs, a good system includes soaker hoses. They can be run over the soil and under the mulch so the water is not wasted and goes right into the soil where the plants need it. It is not good to water plants from overhead. For mulch, organic matter like leaves and pine straw are great. If you can get a good organic hay that is clean of seeds, that will work, too. The organic matter will break down in time, just like it would in the forest, forming new topsoil loaded with nutrients.

One cannot look at today’s world and not be able to sense that a powerful transformation is occurring in our midst. There is an unraveling taking place in all aspects of our society and our lives. Things are coming to an end or undergoing serious renovations, whether they are relationships, careers, finances, attitudes, or staunch dogmas. What lies beyond 2012 holds the promise of better things to come. We are indeed entering a sacred time. This is the blessing.

there are over 55,000,000 women in this country experiencing either menopause or perimenopause. Most likely their hormones are out of balance for one reason or another. Peaceful, Pain-Free Birthing by Kateyah Kapashah, Doula

s women we have many choices in life, and in our society one of those choices is how and where we choose to deliver our babies. In many cultures there is only one choice–at home.

When the majority of people hear “home birth,” the first thing that crops up is a gasp, like there is a fear and hidden law that says that home births are dangerous. I have attended a few and witnessed the recordings of many; the majority were beautiful, peaceful experiences for mother, baby and all present. Sometimes it is not the mother at all who is in fear, it is the family around her, and the mother gives in to not make waves and to make her family feel safe. But where does that leave a mother? Longing for natural birth and feeling it’s easier to go along with what’s more comfortable for others? It is a challenging place to be. Most women settle for the hospital birth and end up giving in to all the interventions placed before them as they move through the stages of labor. After the baby is born, all is blissful and joyful until she reflects on the experience and wonders what happened, how she was swayed into choices that she was determined to move past. This is where preparation is necessary and where a doula assists. Whether hospital or home birth is the choice, a couple can and should have training and support. With a trained midwife and staff all bases are covered just in case transfer to a hospital is necessary. HypnoBirthing is one way to prepare for the process of

labor and delivery and to have some assurance that even within the hospital setting a woman can have a peaceful and pain free birth if she prepares herself for it. Most husbands in today’s American society are happy and excited about coaching their spouses during their labor and delivery. Doulas are support for women as well as husbands/ partners. Doulas are there if labor is long and Mom needs a break or someone to lean on when or if challenging decisions have to be made. Doulas are there if only the mother needs to be reminded of decisions she made before her labor began, reminding her that she can do it, and to focus her energy, that the body knows exactly what to do. A doula is there to hold the energy for mother and family. For me, home birth is my first choice, as long as the mother is healthy and there are no preexisting conditions. If she has taken the steps to prepare herself through diet, conscious living and consulting a licensed midwife, there is absolutely no reason that she cannot have a peaceful, safe home birth. No matter what you choose, know that you can have a peaceful pain-free birth if you choose it. All you have to do is communicate and prepare. Our human body is carrying out actions on its own or under the direction and command of the mind. All tensions, weaknesses, or illnesses that appear in the body are first gathered by the ego-mind. This is why Hatha Yoga practices that are exclusively confined to physical disciplines applied in various modes such as reducing tensions or losing weight fail to reach the cause of problems which lie in our mental and emotional makeup. A Meditation for Sacred Healing

Healings have always taken place in sacred places. In ancient Greece and Rome, sick people visited temples devoted to Asklepios/Asclepius and other healing deities. In a heady atmosphere of music, chanting, incense and religious ecstasy, they read descriptions of healings inscribed on walls, prayed, entered trances and awakened (in many cases) cured.[1] In medieval Europe, pilgrims visited the shrines of saints, often traveling for years from one to another and were similarly healed. Records at the shrines of Saint Godric of Finchale and Saint Thomas à Becket in England describe blind people recovering their sight, the deaf hearing again and the crippled walking.[2] Nor are such cures merely ancient superstition. Dr. Alexis Carrel, Nobel Laureate in medicine, visited the shrine at Lourdes in 1903 as a skeptic. He was amazed to see, among other “miracles,” an abdominal tumor disappear within minutes from a woman dying from tubercular peritonitis who completely recovered her health.[3] The religious labels placed on these spiritual experiences are irrelevant. As William James explained, “the mystical feeling of enlargement, union and emancipation is capable of forming matrimonial alliances with material furnished by the most diverse philosophies and theologies.”[4]

Here is a simple technique to access sacred healing. Statues and pictures of enlightened beings often show them sitting or standing in a specific posture. One arm is bent at the elbow with palm raised and facing forward (like taking the scouting oath). This is the “fear-dispelling” gesture. The other arm is lowered with the hand resting in the lap, turned upward and slightly cupped. This is the “boon-bestowing” gesture. Sometimes an eye is displayed in the center of each palm. This universal sacred pose is seen in representations of deities from the pre-Columbian Americas as well as Buddhist, Hindu and Christian art.[5] Play meditative music, such as Hildegard von Bingen’s Heavenly Revelations, Ralph Vaughan Williams’ Symphony No. 5 or Tony Scott’s Music for Zen Meditation. Sit, stand or kneel with hands in the sacred pose. Imagine an eye in the center of each palm. To achieve calmness, visualize mountains, a sacred spring, a dark cave and a statue in the same sacred pose. Now the task is to separate those things we do want from those we do not want. Focus on something to be eliminated, perhaps sadness, negativity or resentment, and imagine it positioned in the raised hand. It may be something visible, felt or heard or a combination of impressions. Once there is a definite sense of its presence, consciously expel it by projecting it from the raised palm. ance is a form of expression that provides your body with permission to release, explore, gain knowledge and connect to the wisdom of our ancestors. Tribal Belly Dance provides a sacred space for me to connect to the divine energy, that divine source that is both masculine and feminine. Through the beat of the music, I connect to the pulse of Mother Earth. I ground my feet and become rooted as if I become the Tree of Life. I spiral the energy from those before me. I bring this wisdom to my core and circle this wisdom to my current being, to present. Just like the trunk of the Tree of Life, it is here that I gain my strength from my roots. It is here that I become nourished, supported and whole. It is here that I become wisdom. I begin to dance in spirit, dance in divine essence and beauty. I then hold my Tribal Belly Dance frame and allow my arms to move to become the branches that extend me through time where I become one with the divine energy. The sacred energy spirals through my hands up through my heart, where I connect to the oldest rhythm, my heartbeat. The living energy connects to the heartbeat of my ancestors, of the earth and of each other. The sacred energy gets stronger as it moves through my voice and up through my head as it reaches out, speaking my truth, connecting and growing. I call this sacred energy “tribal spiral” and I feel this every time I dance. I feel this most in a drum circle when I connect to the heartbeat of earth working in rhythm with the didgeridoos, drums, and small percussions. I begin to dance with my ancestors. It is here where the truest essence of tribal energy can exist. I can see it, feel it, and honor it. This becomes a sacred place where the interdependence with people on different paths converges to create one song, one ‘uni-verse,’ and I get to dance in this ‘universe’—that which is sacred.

The Meaning

of ‘Sacred’

To fully understand the meaning of sacred, stand in front of a mirror and take a deep look! Gaze deeply into your eyes and ask the question “Who Am I?” Then lock your gaze into your pupils or between your eyes and bravely watch the show! When you gaze and concentrate long enough what you will see could shatter the illusion of who you think you are. It could show you the sacredness of who and what you really are. I did this exercise 30 years ago when I was a medical student in the Dominican Republic and intrigued by life and the deeper questions, “Who Am I?” and “Why am I here?” What I saw and felt then would change my perception about people and events from that moment on, however it would take me another 25 years to understand all of its implications. For years I erroneously thought that what I witnessed was unique to me. I’ve since found that the experience is universal in nature and that most people will have a similar experience if they gaze long enough. (The book, The Four Insights, by Alberto Villoldo, Ph. D., describes in great detail the four levels of the exercise and the similar end point I experienced.)

Here’s what I experienced: Looking in the mirror I just saw my face, same old mug. A little later, still nothing…a little later and I saw my face morph slightly, just a distortion, not very obvious. Then it morphed again… faces began flashing in rapid sequence, only now my face was not coming back. It was a myriad of faces–men, women, children of multiple races flashed in front of me for what seemed like hours. The intensity and speed of the flashing increased, the room suddenly blazed in white light. I saw my deepest, most sacred, highest self. It looked like the features of a human but crystalline, almost see-through with bright light coming from its interior. Awestruck, I asked, “Am I dying?” The final image kept me glued to the mirror. Then as my level of discomfort grew, the face faded to a dark void, then nothing, and finally my familiar face came back again. I have analyzed that event for years since and my understanding has grown. At first I believed that the different faces were different past lives and the “light guy” was my original self or Christ (I was raised Catholic). I suppose if I was raised Buddhist it would’ve been the Buddha or Krishna if I was Hindu. No matter what you call it, everyone has a spark of divinity that lives inside of them, whether they know it or not. Afterward, I realized that the man of light is inside

everyone and its energy is inside of everything. It showed me that everything and everyone is sacred. We are all made of God stuff, light. I have come to believe that most people cannot believe they are sacred, or that God lives inside of them, because they judge their imperfections and feel guilty for not living up to their potential. Most people do not treat themselves as sacred, and if you don’t like, or can’t accept, your very own face in the mirror as sacred, then how can you be expected to treat others as sacred? I believe that if more people figure out that the Divine does live within them, then everyone would treat everyone a whole hell of a lot nicer!

I used to believe in reincarnation but now believe in incarnation. In the mind of God there is no past or future, only the present moment…the Now. So from a larger perspective, all of your past and futures are experienced in the Now and the Now is all that exists. All the faces I saw in the mirror that day were me, as all of humanity across time. “Treat your neighbor as yourself ” is true because you should treat your neighbor as if you were interacting with God…your highest self. If you knew that you were having a power lunch or meeting with Christ, Buddha, Krishna or Allah, how would you behave? Would you be rude? What if Christ decided to play a game of unconsciousness and decided to forget he was who he was so that he could feel the joy of rediscovering himself? So Christ shows up in his mean person camouflaging attire. How would you treat him? Would you give him special treatment because you knew he was the Christ? Guess what? Everyone you interact with is that forgetful, disguised, divine being. One day they’ll remember who they are. In the meantime, treat them like you’re onto them, and remind them about their divinity by fully expressing yours! Learn to fully accept what you see in the mirror, what’s on the surface, what you like and what you don’t like, all of it…we are perfectly imperfect and that is sacred! Learn to love that mug in the mirror and treat yourself with divine sacred kindness. As you learn to love and accept the parts you don’t like about yourself and see them as sacred and as belonging, too, then you’ll be in a much better place to do that for others, to be more tolerant, more compassionate, more truthful, more an expression of your sacred self. Each issue we are given a general theme to build on as a format to present to the readers. Some articles educate, some entertain and inform and others are what I call thinkers. I guess you could say this one is a thinker. It’s a well known fact that we have been actively at war, or at least at odds, with several of the Middle Eastern countries and cultures for a few hundred years or so. Generally, as a nation we are a majority of Christians preaching our scriptures and philosophies to anyone who will listen. However, are we truly practicing with Christ-like actions? Or are we feeding our pride and patronage by offering assistance to the less fortunate on the condition that they change their way of thinking to coincide with ours? It must be obvious to most that what we have been doing in the past to maintain or create peace is not working. In the Declaration of Independence our forefathers wrote “…that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights, that among these are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.” Like most documents held sacred, we have distorted the intention to accommodate our personal interpretations.

Ultimately, we are in control of our thoughts and actions, although in many cases we fail to take this responsibility because it is easier to blame others. Rather than burning books, flags and effigies of leaders why not educate to understand and create an acceptance of our brothers. Possibly this may lead to an elimination, or at least a minimization, of the need to control. The power is not in knowledge but in wisdom and wisdom is cultivated by change. At birth we are taught we’re sacred for we’ve been given the gift of life. Our parents are the vessels who will guide us through our strife. We adopt their views and visions and deem them sacred, too Until the doors of social graces, present new perspectives and points of view. For some there is a balance with God and Family, too. They are served with healthy doses Of fear and shame sprinkled with fragments of hatred looking for someone to blame What’s happened to our cultures, that we feel an urgent need To wallow in our egos and consume ourselves with greed? We’ve fought the wars like Crusaders, STATING God’s name we must defend Lost so many battles, because we failed to see That we must Blend. God’s gift was the breath of life. It’s been given to you and me. The only defense God needs is from the children who won’t concede That Unconditional Love is the only cure for greed. So before we paint our signs and walk in endless lines One might ask, What would Jesus do?

Natural Law: a part of our

VERY BEING

W

hen we think of what is sacred, our mind usually goes to religion or things related to a higher consciousness. We get the idea that anything sacred must be something that is set apart or worthy of worship or reverence. With this idea, it brings us back to things that are associated with religion.

It may occur to us that all of life is sacred if we understand that all things in life refer to the Laws of God, Natural Laws, Universal Laws or whatever you have decided to call these laws. We will see that our lives will always be, in effect, a part of Natural Law. We will understand that these laws will be in effect both here in this world and will continue on the other side, when we graduate from this life to the next. Sir Oliver Lodge said that Natural Law established the eternal persistence of matter and force and their unvarying constancy throughout the universe and that all Natural Law is subordinate to this persistence. Natural Law is really a group or series of laws and each one has its own purpose. We are aware of many of these laws. One we become aware of when we are small children is the Law of the Golden Rule which is considered the basis of Spiritual Law. Almost every religion has a statement that means the same as the Golden Rule. No matter how it is expressed it means the same thing–do unto others as you would have them to do unto you. Some people make a conscious effort to understand and live by the Natural Laws and use them in every part of their lives. Many of these people follow the Golden Rule because they understand that we are all apart of Infinite Intelligence and that all life is sacred. Ruth A. Dyke wrote this concerning the Natural Law of Life: “Man is part of that great scheme of Nature. It is his privilege to explore these beauties, and, exploring, he finds his faculties responding to the Natural Laws and then living in accordance therewith, will find true religion. There are battlefields in human life today. They become part of us and bear us down, and unless we become warriors in the field of life, we shall soon lose. But man can and will win when he understands Nature’s Laws which are God’s Laws. Nature has provided life, because Nature is Life. We are a part of this life; therefore you will always be life. Cultivate it. It is the Great ‘I Am.’ Rise in all your majesty and adore life. For Life is God and God is Life.” We can come to the conclusion that all things, all matters in our lives, are sacred because they deal with our lives. Is Cheesecake Sacred? by Oral Nussbaum Sacred is a word that seems to have an ever-expanding definition. Originally describing a precious religious relic, belief or text, it is now used by new moms to describe the 90 minutes when the baby naps. My uncle said the space around his recliner was sacred, which I found odd, since the use of alcohol was encouraged in that same space. Memories of famous people sometimes take on a sacred persona. I learned that at a party where I told a Princess Diana joke. Cows are sacred, statues are sacred and Monday Night Football is sacred. You can swear a sacred oath or belong to a sacred society. Aunt Jill’s double layered cherry chocolate cheesecake is made from a sacred recipe. I even saw a website that deals with the phobia of sacred things. Anything of importance seems to be fair game for the title “sacred.” Frankly, I’m surprised the advertising industry hasn’t used it yet. Pringles–the sacred potato chip. Eventually it will be so overused that its meaning will have little or no importance, and I say, "Good." In fact, don’t stop there. Get rid of it completely. Find another way to tell me how important something is to you, like a one-to-ten scale. Then we can all work at respecting each other’s nines and tens. To me, calling something sacred implies that other things are not, and that’s just another way to separate myself from anything God-like. How can I say the unfolding of a butterfly’s wings is less important than a crucifix, a sunset not as valuable as the Bible, an eagle in flight not as good as the Koran, or a child’s laughter lacking when compared to the Torah? I see God in all things: a priest’s robe and my work clothes, a Hindu deity and a rosebush, a Buddhist sage and a beggar downtown.

To my knowledge, there is no universal law that grants sacred status. That privilege is bestowed by humans based on their personal perception of what should be holy. When I believe one thing is better than another, I am judging which of God’s creations is more valuable, and that simply cannot be done fairly for everyone. A cup of water is far more important to a man in the desert than to a man living by a river. It may seem like a small point, but when we accept the concept of separation in our religious beliefs, it trickles down into every area of our lives. I’ve spent most of my life judging which things or beliefs are more valuable, only to find that I’m the only one who sees it that way. Inner peace, for me, increases proportionately to the extent I am able to stop making comparisons and see everything as contributing equally to the experience of life. Religious paraphernalia, babies napping and cheesecake are all special in the moment they are enjoyed, but if everything is part of God’s creation, tell me…what is not sacred? by Ann Moura determining what is sacred, I consider how the flow of universal energy passes through all planes and worlds. The concept of the universe being a living organism of which we are a part, and the idea of Universal Life flowing in unending cycles of light and shadow, from life to death to new life, makes all things sacred as part of the Divine Spirit. With this in mind, the very act of living is sacred, and our walk in this life on this planet is sacred. We need to pause now and then to savor and appreciate our lives and the lives of all upon the earth, for in the highest metaphysical sense, as we are all connected with the Divine through Spirit, everything we are and do is sacred. Viewing life itself as sacred is not an easy matter, and we tend to break things down into degrees of sacredness, making value comparisons. But these degrees are artificial, made in our minds. We can, instead, appreciate the sacredness of living by acknowledging the beauty of each day no matter the weather, the beauty of the land whether desert, mountain, forest or coastline, and the beauty of the beings around us. Seeing the Divine Spirit in all things draws us closer together as human beings and in partnership with the ecosystem of the planet. We come to recognize that all things and all acts of life are sacred. In my family tradition, the land upon which we depend for sustenance is sacred, and we express our appreciation for all our food, be it plant or animal. Food from the grocery store is part of the life energy flow, and all of those life forms who have contributed their energies to our own life process are received with gratitude. The great truth in a story about my family God, Shiva, is that Life Feeds on Life. Yes, animals and plants are killed and processed into food for people to consume– that is the nature of things–but in living a sacred life, these gifts of life must be acknowledged, not cheapened or ignored with crass disregard. The one who feels nothing for the source of what sustains us has lost track of the connection of all life through the universal Divine Spirit. I find it very upsetting to see anything in Nature being abused and discarded with little thought or consideration of the overall effect on the environment much less for the individual entity involved. Individuals and corporations have let money and convenience determine the use or abuse of the environment upon which we all depend. Lack of respect for the sacred life that dwells in the land, sea and air translates into a disregard for the well-being of the planet, and thereby of one another. Until we can respect all life, we have little grasp on what is sacred, for Life itself is Sacred. While there are no broken bones or black and blue bruises on your physical body the trauma to your mind, spirit and psyche is the equivalent of having been in a major car accident. It’s important for you to first and foremost find a trusted therapist to help you work through your feelings and guide you through the healing process. Now is not the time to make any life-changing decisions about your marriage but it is a time for self-love, selfnurturing and reflection. Just as it can take weeks or months for a broken bone to heal so, too, will it take time to heal from this betrayal. Give yourself the time to heal and the space you need to express and explore your feelings. We know of several incidents where one party in a soulmate relationship cheated and they eventually worked their way back into forgiveness, love and joy but it doesn’t happen overnight. There is no time table to healing your heart. You said you still love your husband and it’s important to know that you can still love him, the imperfect human, while not condoning his behavior. Hopefully he will be willing to enter therapy with you and to actively take responsibility for what he has done. Whether he does that or not, we strongly and lovingly suggest that you commit to doing whatever it takes to heal yourself and surround yourself with friends and family that love you and have your best interests at heart. The Tornado Archetype In Dreams by Charlotte Spicer atural disasters represent emotional upheaval and the fear of the foundation of your life being destroyed. Tornadoes specifically point to fear of separation from family members. When we see tornadoes in our dreams, the situation we are experiencing generally involves a person with whom we may be reluctant to convey our true feelings out of fear of losing them or causing further emotional or physical distance. The image is revealing to us our fear that the family unit will be fractured, damaged or irreparably destroyed, and we suppress these thoughts and emotions in an attempt to avoid worsening the situation to a point of disaster. When we look at our fears, however, we find that many are based on an imagined worst case scenario. There are specific relationships to which a tornado may be referencing that require a different approach from the dreamer. One possible representation is the presence of a teenager whose behavior is affecting the family unit. Often, there is the fear that if you are too tough on them that they will run away or withdraw emotionally. As a teen goes through the normal hormonal changes, behavioral changes may be surprising to the parent (such as defiance, the desire for independence, experimentation with drugs, alcohol and sex). Naturally, it is worth every effort to get through and guide your child. Later, your child will look back and see that you tried your best to protect them. Tornadoes can also point to a household member who possesses a “stormy� personality. Alcoholics, substance abusers and emotionally/mentally ill or volatile people are generally represented here. In the presence of these personalities, one usually will do everything possible, to the point of extreme selfsacrifice, in order to keep a semblance of peace. The bottom line in any situation is that we must recognize and speak our own personal truths. We must look honestly within to determine which course of action is best for all concerned. Once you get the message, you will see changes in the emotional intensity and the dreams will evolve to less threatening images or disappear altogether. few years ago I had the most incredible experience. While under hypnosis I was able to discover and awaken my sacred self, a feeling of oneness with the Divine. It was the most peaceful and loving experience I have ever encountered.

they know not what they do.” I was in a total state of awe. I finally understood what Jesus meant. It was as if a light had switched on inside me and I no longer felt darkness, resentment, anger or sadness toward anyone, including myself. I was finally free.

I wanted to be hypnotized to be able to forgive some people in my life that I felt I was unable to release on my own in my conscious state. Oh sure, I thought I had forgiven them, but as much as I tried to convince myself I had forgiven them, I knew deep down inside I had not. I told the hypnotist I wanted to truly forgive some people who had hurt me, to experience the feeling of oneness. Oneness with the Divine. And with every person and every thing.

Although my hypnosis session was brief, the feeling of oneness lasted about three weeks. Three glorious weeks.

I had no idea what I was about to experience. I believe my experience was similar to what people have described as a near death experience, however my experience did not involve a physical death of the body, but a death of the ego. And an awakening of my sacred self. When I awoke from my state of hypnosis everything had changed. My heart filled with so much love it was as if waves of energy were pulsating out of my body and filling the entire room. I encountered people all around me in the room and all I could feel was pure love for them. My body was filled with a light, tingling surge of energy that began at the soles of my feet and continued up my legs and torso. Everyone I saw looked like they were filled with a white radiant light.

This magnificent experience significantly impacted my spiritual journey. It came at a time when I was searching for answers and asking for guidance and direction in life. My questions were answered. I had discovered my sacred self. The oneness with the Divine was inside me and nothing outside me could ever give me that. Although the intensity of those blissful three weeks has diminished, what remains strong is a knowing that can never be taken away. I remember vividly the feeling inside me and I know with certainty that I am one with the Divine. When we quiet our conscious mind and reach a state of deep focused relaxation we are able to awaken and discover our sacred self. Allow the divine light within you to illuminate your path and guide your life. You will never be the same.

The words of Jesus raced through my mind when he said, “Forgive them for

Just as the feet are the foundation of the physical body, water is the basis of our planet’s ecosystem. As sacred as I consider feet, on a larger scale, I consider water to be the most sacred of our planet’s elements. I approach the subject of water with respect, especially since I’ve discovered that, like feet, water holds memory. Dr. Masaru Emoto, the Japanese scientist who authored The Hidden Messages in Water, has written how our thoughts and words affect water’s molecular structure. He has shown that water in containers covered with the word “love” will freeze into beautiful, symmetrical crystals, but the water in vessels covered with the word “hate” will make deformed, ugly, misshapen forms. Sacred contracts

The concept of Sacred Contracts infers that before we manifest in physical form, we set ourselves up to learn lessons and choose who will help us carry them out. Theories, like courses in high school or college, are fairly easy to grasp but another matter when put into practice. It’s easy to say what I would do when faced with a particular situation. It’s quite different when I’m actually in the situation. Suddenly, it’s not so simple. Transitioning from spirit to body is like graduating from school and finding out the real world isn’t anything like school taught us it would be.

Every experience is planned.

The theory stands that every experience we have is planned; Plan A, B, C, and with contingencies so that we can’t miss the lesson even if we’re on our seventeenth time through the same lesson. (Ever notice how we keep meeting the same kinds of people until we learn how to deal with them?) When I was introduced to the concept of Sacred Contracts, my emotional reaction was, “You mean to tell me that I asked to have abusive relationships? That my father and I planned for me to watch him die at my feet a month after my twelfth birthday? I planned this???” According to the principle of Sacred Contracts, that is exactly what I did. Why???

In the vein of loving lessons, I’ve learned a great forgiveness ritual: When I find myself irritated by another person, I look at what they are triggering in me, find the lesson in our Sacred Contract, then say a prayer of gratitude for their participation and what I have learned from them. It’s hard to be irritated and grateful at the same time. Try it on. See if it works for you! What have we set ourselves up to learn?

Sacred Contracts are all about what we’ve come here to learn, and what we’ve agreed to help others learn. Through my sacred contracts, I set myself up for a childhood of mental, physical, emotional and sexual abuse, and endured catastrophic levels of pain at a very early age. I also set up those early years to include the polar opposite of those feelings. I gave myself the gift of the fullest range of human experience. I believe I did it so I could relate to the greatest range of spiritual beings having this human experience. Sacred Contracts are all about learning and sharing.

Getting the lessons...

Once upon a time, I worked with a young man who simply rubbed me the wrong way and I returned the favor. Even after openly discussing the friction, tension continued to swirl. Examining my own “triggers,” I found that I was afraid to openly confront verbally abusive behavior. As with all fears, once it was out in the open, it dissipated. I was able to absorb the lesson and know that I have every right to claim my space in a loving way.

Finally, after all the years of education, after all the sacrifices to become excellent in my field, and after searching relentlessly for the true meaning of life I found it–ENERGY. We need energy to be able to fulfill our heroic destiny here on planet earth. We need energy to become people of significance. We need energy to keep love alive. Many women don’t believe that they can have a successful career, beautiful and light body, and rich emotional relationships. Many men and women think that they are “not enough” to keep all the best of these things around them. How do we get these things attracted into our life and keep them? We have to open to, build, and conserve energy. The real truth is, “Having It All” comes down to energy. God never wanted us to play small in life. There is no limit to the amount of energy we can open to. Surprisingly, it is how we deal with our daily lives that pours more of this valuable substance through us and out of us. The dictionary describes 'sacred' as being dedicated to a deity or dedicated to a religious purpose. The word 'sacred' is related to or used in religious worship and is something worthy of religious veneration and respect. It is dedicated to, or in honor of, somebody, some place, or some object. Some synonyms for the word 'sacred' are 'holy,' 'blessed' or 'hallowed. ' In 1915, Durkheim tried to answer the question, What is sacred? He said, “By sacred things one must not understand simply those personal beings which are called God or Spirit. A rock, a tree, a spring, a stone, a piece of wood, a house; in a word anything can be sacred. ” From these definitions one could say that possibly everything is sacred, or perhaps nothing is sacred. The fact is nothing can be sacred without a subject first observing it and deciding if it is worthy of sacredness. Only humans can make meaning out of any phenomenon observed. Therefore, we can say that sacred is actually a state of mind by and within the observer. My own concept of the sacred these days is less concerned with definitions and more aligned with the recognition of the relatedness of all life and our place within the web of existence. The sacred is that which binds us to all other living things and to the earth,

our home. We are part of the creative process that is found in nature and in the universe. We live in a wonderful universe where all good has been given to us by a loving God. The trouble is that we forget this Truth in our day-to-day existence when we are striving to do more and more in our hurried world. We act as agents of the sacred by our choice to view the world in a spiritual way. We are co-creators and preservers of God’s beauty in the world. Our ordinary daily activity and acts can become sacred if they are imbued with meaning and done with intention. If you have a strong connection to something, someone, or some place–if it has a special meaning to you, then it is sacred to you. People, places and things only become sacred when there is a special significance or connection to them. The honoring becomes an act of remembrance and sacredness. Sometimes groups of people share their sense of sacred and then this becomes a shared spirituality.

I was 24 years old when it happened. I was lost, deeply unsatisfied with what life had to offer, and thought to myself, “This just can’t be it. There has to be more to life than this!” So I decided that if there is such a thing as a spiritual realm, rather than judge it and decide it’s nonsense, I had to do the work and see for myself. So I began to read. “Surely,” I thought, “if it’s real, others must have written about it and can tell me how to have the same experience.” During my reading I soon came across the out-of-body experience (OBE) and it was right up my alley. I began trying to leave my body. The day it happened I was lying on the couch with my girlfriend watching “Star Wars.” She had fallen asleep so I decided to take a nap as well. Then, before I lost consciousness my whole body began to vibrate. Having been doing OBE work for two months, I knew what the vibrations were and was very excited. I nudged my girlfriend awake and asked, “Can you feel that?” She said, “Yes.” After more questions back and forth, I was thinking of my next question to ask her and before I asked it, she answered me! Before I jumped to conclusions and determined we had just telepathically communicated, I decided to test and re-test. After minutes of this, I was convinced. Not only was she answering my unspoken questions, but I was doing the same for her. Telepathy is real.

You Are What You Eat Plus ... by Liam Hail

Given that the human body is approximately 70% water, and without clean, oxygen rich air to breathe we would all asphyxiate, surely the above quote would be better read: You are what you drink and breathe as well as what you eat. Presently, the resources of clean water and clean air are not infinite. Like most resources on the planet they are coming under assault from a burgeoning population and ever increasing pollution. The planet will always regenerate itself and its resources, however the time scales involved may mean that lots of people will have to suffer before this regeneration occurs. Governments and cross-country forums are already looking at this issue as it threatens (more than the energy crisis) to be the source for future conflicts, however it seems that our bodies take almost as long as the planet's geological and atmo-

spheric processes to regenerate themselves to produce real change. This is where you come into the equation. A wise person once said, "A journey of a thousand miles began with one step," so on this journey we, too, can take that one step. We can recycle, we can cut back on energy use, and we can also choose to use fewer resources which pollute or are wasteful. We all have to clean our homes and workplaces. The use of a myriad of toxic, harmful chemicals and processes means that more and more effort, resources and money has to be spent to re-purify the air and water we ourselves have just polluted. This is obviously a futile operation! Surely it would be far better to not pollute in the first place, therefore negating the need to waste more resources to clean our mess.

Begin with choosing cleaning products which are biodegradable and non-toxic, preferably not chlorine based and choose cleaning methods which have a low energy consumption rate. It is really all about choice, and taking that one step. Wet carpet cleaning, for example, requires the water to be heated, energy for a vacuum and a pump, use of detergents and chemicals, then energy to dry the wet carpet. Dry carpet cleaning uses a vacuum only, and the HOSTÂŽ system (see ad for Odoronix this page) uses no harsh chemicals. It is even manufactured in a "Green Seal Certified" plant and uses approximately an impressive one third of the resources wet cleaning uses.

love to meditate. I love the perfect stillness that occurs when I am able to take the time, find the solitude and deeply connect to my sacred space in the universe.
