The master teacher taught us that we are to love one another. Jesus was not accepted in his world by the majority and many times, great Truths such as unconditional Love for everyone and principles of non-violence are received only by a few. I watched the movie on Gandhi's life and was reminded again of the tremendous strength he exhibited in practicing principles of non-violence. His achievement of freeing India from British rule made a powerful statement in favor of peace and freedom. Martin Luther King, Jr. was another teacher of peace who did not tolerate inequality. Being an example of equality, tolerance, unconditional love, and peace takes great inner strength that comes from a knowingness of who you really are ... an adult of God!

"Is

the American Dream alive or dead?" That is a question CNN's Jack Cafferty asked viewers to weigh in on one day. Cafferty asked the question as if the so-called American Dream is in serious trouble, as if the challenges we face are the harbinger of doom for humanity. American Dream is actually a phrase found in the dictionary. It defines the American Dream as the traditional social ideals of the U.S., such as equality, democracy, and material prosperity. The phrase, American Dream, was popularized by historian and author James Truslow Adams (1878-1949) in his 1931 book Epic of America: "The American Dream is that dream of a land in which life should be better and richer and fuller for every man, with opportunity for each according to ability or achievement... It is not a dream of motor cars and high wages merely, but a dream of social order in which each man and each woman shall be able to attain to the fullest stature of which they are innately capable, and be recognized by others for what they are, regardless of the fortuitous circumstances of birth or position."

In fact, there will be pain, but Mother is trying to give birth naturally to a new beautiful way of being and we keep trying to give her a C-section. Aren't we running in circles in denial of what is? Let's look at the truth of our denial.

and though opportunity truly does exist here for everyone, the ancestors of many American citizens have been so used and abused over the last two hundred years that in many families, the lack of self-esteem has been passed down through generations. These people can no longer rise up. They can't conceive that rising is even possible and if so, how to even go about it.

Based on what Adams describes, we seem to have focused on the motor cars and high wages, losing sight of the core values and reasons for birthing this country, land of plenty and every conceivable natural resource. Craig Thomas, former U. S. Senator from the state of Wyoming says, "You stuff somebody into the American dream, and it becomes a prison." How true. The very dream that is meant to liberate us has lost its purity in the minds of enough Americans to make a profound impact and in its degradation, has imprisoned most of us.

The incessant question is, "Why isn't the economy rebounding like we want it to?" First, who has the magic formula to make that happen? Our nation hasn't been industrialized long enough to have garnered sufficient experience to provide those solutions like answers to questions on a math test. Second, and more important, maybe it's not supposed to. We're trying to return to a way of life that was headed on a collision course to insanity anyway. Why would we want to revive that "dream?"

Why do we go to the grocery store and continue to buy processed foods for convenience's sake or buy even less from the produce department? Maybe it's a good thing considering almost all the produce is genetically modified presenting repercussions in the physical body that have yet to be fully realized. We're all addicted to food. Let's face it. We learned that habit a long time ago and we come by it very honestly. It's more the choices of food we

make that we must look at. If you want to know the truth, watch the dvd, Food, Inc. Know that most often, when you see a food label bearing a pretty idyllic scene such as animals grazing in a pasture, unless the food is organic and non-GMO, that's not at all how your food came to


be. Both animals and people were treated shamefully as your food was prepared to come to market. Moreover, by buying food that is already devoid of life and most of its nutrition, we are supporting the giant Monsanto Corporation who has practically all but sealed a monopolistic control of our seeds. When you control the food, you control the population. If this is the American Dream, I want out of the dream. (Support independent integrity organic farmers whatever the sacrifice! If we don't sacrifice now, we may have to later and it that sacrifice may be unquantifiable.) Either we work so much (because we have to in order to survive) or we just have lazily gotten out of the habit of getting intimate with the bounty of this earth, the food that is meant to sustain and heal us. We opt for buying our food practically, if not totally, pre-made, right down to buying pre-washed salad greens ready to place in the salad bowl. And if we do buy fresh and wholesome, we cook the living daylights out of it, until it looses its color, texture and high vibrational properties. We let the sugar people tell us it's good for us. They give sugar different names to confuse us and make us believe it's okay (fructose, corn syrup and artificial sweeteners, for example). After all this abomination to our food, we still wonder why we end up in the hospital with cancer, diabetes, heart disease and a whole host of other sicknesses doctors can't even diagnose. The poor quality of our food leads to the mess of our healthcare system built more on a foundation of money than health and we treat it in the way that it treats us, with bandaids. It's hardly healthcare. It's sickness management. Health is generated within people who are connected to the earth and who use food to heal rather than to comfort. My American Dream is that soon backyard fruit and vegetable gardening will become so attractive that the practice spreads like a tidal wave across the country. What a gift to just walk outside and pick a piece of fruit off the vine and take in its pure, luscious, un-

adulterated, bursting goodness. Everything unadulterated, the way Creation intended it, this is my dream. Babies who are birthed naturally and at home as much as possible. Reducing the deplorable rate of C-sections which prevent the natural and normal cranial development of a child and eventual adult. Mothers who selflessly breast-feed their infants because it's the best, most perfect food for their babies (not non-organic, GMO soy formula), because the energetic bonding and transference of ancestral wisdom occurs through this natural, no-bottle nurturing experience. How we usher a newborn Divine being into this world, sets the tone for his whole life. I'm praying for and visualizing arents who take more responsibility for their childrens' schooling, at home as much as possible. School is for educating and learning. It can be fun, too, but its primary purpose is not to socialize. I know of parents who opt to send their children to drug-riddled public schools instead of home school them because they want their kids to be socialized. Many of those young people will have an awful lot to unlearn someday. Home schooled children can develop the greatest social skills when they associate with others of like mind and rearing. If more children were simply loved and cared for at home, we could turn our substance abuse statistics around. I yearn for a return to nature and its endless gifts including true clean energy. (By the way, for the people who push energy from so-called 'clean coal,' would they themselves actually like to go work in a coal mine? I don't think so.) I see a country filled with turbines for alternative energy, with people riding bicycles and walking more, working in their gardens and talking lovingly to their plants. I see a country whose favorite color is green– green energy, green building, green food.

I see a country whose people are free from the control of pharmaceutical companies' prescription drugs and thus, their possible side effects and addictive qualities, because we derive our medicine from our living/raw, vegan, organic, non-GMOfood. I see a country that is free from having to work so hard outside the home in order to pay for food and shelter. I see a country where higher education is a right and freely given, where higher learning institutions are bastions of the union of heart and mind, thinking and feeling, science and self-realization. I see a country where integrity is a virtue of focus both in our leaders and in the smallest child. I see a country based on the concept of sharing with everyone what we have rather than needing to compete to be the so-called greatest, most dominant nation in the

world. Competition denotes a need to prove something, to prove perhaps that we are good enough? I'd rather develop my self-esteem some other way than try to reach a pedestal through leaving someone else in the dust. I see a country where most (and most is enough for now) fully get that what we do to another, we do to ourselves and so every decision we make in life is based on respect and love in the highest. I see a country of loving people who have let go of "what's in it for me?" There are enough of us who believe in these things and there are many more awakening to this consciousness. We actually do have the necessary numbers to cause this to happen. Most of all, we have all the Power both within ourselves and through our synergistic connection with each other.

What we have in our homes, how we clean them, and how we decorate are all decisions that affect our lives on a daily basis. We need to take care of our homes just as we do our bodies. Open your windows to ventilate your home on a regular basis. This is especially important if you have young children that play on the floor. Water Filters. Tap water can contain a host of contaminants including chlorine, lead and organic material. Install filters in your kitchen for drinking water and in your shower for water used to bathe. Natural Cleaning Products. Many household cleaning products contain chemicals such as ammonia and phenol which can irritate your skin and lungs and cause headaches. Look for non-toxic, environmentally safe household cleaning products. HEPA Vacuum. Vacuum regularly to keep dust and other allergens to a minimum. Add HEPA/carbon filter to your heating, ventilation and air conditioning system, or placing standing filters in room where you spend a lot of time, such as bedrooms, to filter the air in your home. Hardwood Floors and Area Rugs. Opt for hardwood floors and area rugs in place of wallto-wall carpets. Carpets house dirt, chemicals, dust mites and mold. Area rugs have the benefit of being easily removed so they can be professionally cleaned, shaken out or placed in the sun. Also avoid synthetic rugs and look for natural floor coverings made of untreated wool, jute, sisal or bamboo. Healthy Bedding. You will spend almost a third of your life in bed, so make sure your bed is a healthy, chemical-free place to sleep. Stress negatively affects our health and lack of organization and clutter can contribute to stress. Create a peaceful sanctuary at home by getting organized and eliminating clutter. A Pleasing View. Studies show that we relax more when we have a beautiful view. If you don’t have a great view, create one inside your home with artwork and outside your home with window boxes and landscaping. When purchasing new furniture for your home or office, invest in natural materials such as solid wood, untreated cotton, linen and wool. My hope for the future American Dream is this: More time being an old-fashioned dog. Back then, life was simpler and we dogs had an important role to play as members of a family. We worked helping protect them from all sorts of unknown dangers outside our home. We alerted them to any strange noise, weather and approaching wild animals. Some of us sheepdogs would even have important jobs like herding sheep and cattle on the farms. We tagged along behind the young humans, kept them close to the house, and even though we knew the mail carrier, we still barked to practice our scare tactic skills. Naturally, we would run off any intruders and ours was a home securely protected. It seems to me that as time has passed, our role as family dogs has become a bit more complicated. Back in my Grandpups’ day, we dogs would occasionally stand for children dressing us up in pearls, but now I see more adults doing the same thing! I’ve even seen some dogs riding in handbags with their nails painted, and wearing a big bow that matched the color of his owner’s bow. Personally, I just feel plain sorry for a dog whose role has been reduced to his owner’s baby or a clothing accessory. Some trends these days have been good for the canine crowd. Dog parks are a great place to go so I can meet and greet other breeds and run with the pack for an afternoon. There are also good outdoor cafes in town that will give me a bowl of water when my family stops for refreshments. And there is something called holistic healing that includes dog massage! DEVELOPING YOUR ANIMAL COMMUNICATION TOOLBOX by Jo Maldonado

A long time ago, I decided that I wanted to work with animals. Soon after, it was made clear to me that I could indeed open myself up to hearing “words” and seeing images and “movies” that played in 3d in front of me that appeared to be coming from the animals themselves! “How great,” I thought. “I don’t really have to deal with people. I can just play and talk to animals.” Not so fast. I soon learned that the information I was receiving was, in most cases, highly confidential. I wasn’t just getting information about the type of food the animals liked or whether they liked their new bedding, I could deliver stories about the owners‚ husbands and families that no one else knew. I could deliver information about medical secrets that were kept quiet from friends and messages from the departed loved ones, both animals and humans, that no one else could see or hear. Were the animals giving me such confidential information about these people? I WAS helping people—and it felt really great!

A whole new world opened up for me and I soon realized that what I was receiving originated from a much higher/different source in tandem with the animal, but how was I doing this? I have been fortunate to have studied with some great teachers: Reiki masters, gurus, animal communicators, mediums, hypnotists, angel practitioners and shamans, and many healers of body, mind and spirit. Most of these opportunities were available through my program that I created for people to learn about animals, Centers for Animal Therapies/C.A.T. What I began to realize was that I was applying all of their teachings to what I was doing. I could tap into worlds of spirits and angels as well as through great animal souls and deliver information to people about their pets that really were a direct reflection of their lives. I could go to the spirit world of animals through shamanic healing, and deliver physical relief through reiki or other types of energy healing. I could use the tone of my voice that I used in hypnosis and calm them. Through studying all these different methods and embracing the different opportunities of alternative learning and healing that I presented through our program, I developed a toolbox of techniques that I could open and use when I worked with any animal under any circumstance. I developed my own language. I encourage you to embrace and utilize any learning opportunity that comes your way. Classes, events, volunteering at your local shelters, free demonstrations and reading anything that applies to animal behavior and communication. If for some reason you are not able to participate in any of these, use your everyday life experiences. Even if you have a flat tire and are waiting for help, you learn patience, and that you will later apply when you wait for THEM to open up to you. You are always learning something, all you have to do is put it in your toolbox and apply it.

Throughout Europe, herbalists are tensely watching as a political climate unfolds which could reverse thousands of years of access to the medicine of the people—healing herbs. Last October, the European Union Commission set forth legislation which took effect this May, which limits access to herbal products outside of the traditional European phamacopeia. The E. U. directive is known as the Traditional Herbal Medicinal Products Directive. Once it takes effect, only herbal medicines that have been registered will be available E. U.-wide. For a wide range of herbal products, especially those from non-European traditions such as Ayurveda and traditional Chinese medicine, requirements to become registered are either impossible to meet or prohibitively expensive (around $100,000 per product). The ban has also effected medicinal herbs in food supplements which are used by many thousands of people across Europe to help maintain their health. Many herbs that are generally recognized as safe are now outlawed in Europe, including Chaste Tree, Red Clover, Hawthorn, Ashwaganda, Cat’s Claw and Pau D’arco. What can we do, in the United States, as herbal enthusiasts, to ensure that the medicine of the people remains in the hands of the people?

Is Our BIRTHING NORM … Normal? It is one of the most beautiful and transformative births I have ever participated in. The mom labors at home in her birthing pool. As the birth draws closer, Dad is also in the pool holding and supporting her. He is strong, loving and emotionally present. When Mom senses the birth of her second child is near, she asks me to get her grandmother, mother, and her almost three-yearold daughter. Four generations of women are now present at this birth. A few moments later, her sweet little girl is perched on the edge of the pool, eagerly awaiting the birth of her baby brother. As his head emerges, her mommy invites her to join them in the birth pool. She quickly slides into the pool. This is the moment she has been waiting for and she begins to caress her brother’s dark hair. As the rest of his body is born, big sister helps Mommy bring their baby into the world. A short time later, Mom releases her placenta into her own hands under the guidance of her midwife. This midwife and her team are there in their true role as guardians of birth. Holding the space and stepping in only as necessary. We all witnessed the raw power women possess to birth our babies. This mother was not helpless and/or disconnected from her baby or herself as she labored and brought her child into the world. She was powerful, present, and in control, listening to her body and her baby. She transformed and healed the extremely negative experience of her first pregnancy and birth. She reclaimed her power as a woman and as a mother– for herself and all women. She also provided her daughter with a powerful experience to free her from any negative imprinting she may have received during her own birth. What is common in our culture becomes our norm. At times, this is despite what is physiologically normal. As women, birth is our physiological norm. Our bodies are inherently created to conceive, grow and birth our babies. There is an awe-inspiring design and function in place. In the countries with the best mother-

baby outcomes, the norm is midwifery care for low risk healthy moms and physician care for high risk moms and babies, yet our norm has become hospitals, inductions, and a more than 40% Cesarean-section rate. As students, many health professionals never observe a vaginal birth during their obstetrical rotations. They only observe Cesarean births! Contemplate what this imprints upon their psyches as normal for birth. What a different paradigm of birth all aspiring obstetrical nurses and doctors would receive if they were required to do rotations at the beginning and end of their training in a birth center and with a homebirth midwife to get a clear understanding of what quantifies normal pregnancy, birth and postpartum. With this paradigm in place, medical professionals entering into their vocation could powerfully discern between normal/healthy and high risk situations. They could then serve women wisely. BREAKING IT DOWN INTO MANAGEABLE PIECES

It used to be that people wished for material things—new cars, a bigger house—but since we have felt the economic crunch and the Earth Changes wash over us, it is becoming apparent that everything we wanted in the past is not what we want in the future. So how do we decide what we should be wishing for? How do we get there from here? World peace and feeding the hungry in the world seem large and unobtainable goals, but they are not. I tell my spiritual and herbal students that the best way to obtain anything is through small steps. A newborn does not get up and run a marathon. It starts by crawling, walking, then running. Start at the beginning and take small, focused steps to obtain your dream. I have a friend who told me that within ten years he wanted to be the old wise man that all the new people looked up to. I asked him what he was doing to obtain that dream and he looked at me blankly and said, “I am reading a book.” That was all. I talked to him about doing daily meditations, seeking spiritual teachers, and going out to experience the things he was reading about so that he has life experience. It is good to have a dream, but it is also important to take steps to reach it. Do you want to be a healer? Well, find an experienced healer to learn from. Do you want to reach enlightenment? Then meditate, visit an ashram, become one with God. I have a student who wants to learn about herbalism RIGHT NOW and is taking three different programs simultaneously. Her goal is to move back to her native town in Mexico and be the local healer. She came to me asking me how to make the knowledge sink in faster and better. I told her the best way was with time and experience. She didn’t like the answer at first, but later realized I was right. I now mentor her and give her extra exercises and meditations to do with the plants. If you want to feed the hungry, start small. Taylor Bray, a small business owner in Kansas City, Missouri, takes peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, chips and water and gives them to homeless people downtown during her lunch hour. If one percent of the population did something this simple, there would be no hunger. All goals, including being the local healer, feeding the hungry or obtaining world peace are all obtainable by doing one thing at a time. The new American Dream can be about creating world peace, feeding the hungry or becoming a healer. It is just a matter of taking the big picture and breaking it down into manageable pieces. WHAT IS

Soul

Enlightenment? World

-renowned healer and spiritual master, Master Zhi Gang Sha, agrees with ancient teachings that tell us that everyone and everything has a soul. “Every soul has its standing in Heaven,” says Master Sha. Generally speaking, the souls of lower standing are inanimate objects, things in nature, and simpler creatures such as bacteria and viruses. More evolved creatures, such as birds, fish and mammals, have a higher soul standing. Human beings have a still higher soul standing. The highest soul standing in Jiu Tian, the nine layers of Heaven, is held by the saints, the buddhas and holy beings of all kinds. Every human being also has his or her specific soul standing as well. According to Master Sha, “Your soul is a beautiful golden light being that sits inside your body, and where it sits tells you exactly what your spiritual standing is.” We have seven soul houses in our bodies. Each corresponds, more or less, to the seven chakras. The first soul house sits just above our perineum—the area between our genitals and anus. The second soul house is a bit higher, in our lower abdomen. The third soul house is higher still, at the level of our navel. The fourth soul house sits in the middle of our chest. This is known as the heart chakra which, in Master Sha’s teaching, is called the Message Center. The fifth and sixth soul houses, respectively, are in our throat and in our head or brain. The seventh and highest soul house actually sits just above the top of our head, in the crown chakra. Soul enlightenment means our soul reaches a very specific and special level. This level is the fourth soul house, the heart chakra or Message Center. When our soul sits at this level or above, then our soul is enlightened. According to Master Sha, “When your soul is enlightened, it sits at the saint level, the buddha level, because this is what soul enlightenment represents.”

It takes hundreds of lifetimes, sometimes thousands of lifetimes, for most human beings to achieve, however once attained, soul enlightenment can be lost much more easily than it was to achieve. “A major mistake, dwelling in unbalanced emotions such as anger, constant complaining—-all kinds of issues can create bad karma and cause us to lose our enlightened state,” says Master Sha. There is one way to take a shortcut, a rocket ship to reach enlightenment, and this is through a special divine blessing, which is a Divine Order from a special divine channel who can ask the Divine to give us hundreds and hundreds of lifetimes of virtue in an instant to uplift our souls to the enlightened level. Why Are Women Given Anti-Depressants To Relieve PMS? Six Natural Nutrients That Can Reduce PMS Symptoms

Nearly 10 years ago, the FDA approved the anti-depressant prescription drug Zoloft for the treatment of premenstrual syndrome (PMS) and one expert believes that’s ten years too long, especially when natural alternatives have been proven to reduce PMS symptoms without drugs. “It seems almost alien to me why someone would take a drug to relieve PMS when the drug’s list of potential side effects–drowsiness, nausea, headache, loss of appetite, anxiety, panic attacks, hostility, aggressiveness, restlessness and depression–are almost an identical match for the symptoms of the ailment they’re trying to relieve,” said Michael Mooney, Director of Research and

· Vitamin B6 (pyridoxine) – According to a study of 630 women published in the British Journal of Clinical Practice, 100 mg to 150 mg of supplemental vitamin B6 reduced PMS in about 66 percent of the women, while 160 mg to 200 mg of vitamin B6 reduced PMS in about 79 percent of the women.

· Vitamin D – The Archives of Internal Medicine published a study in 2005 which concluded that women with a higher median vitamin D intake of 706 IU per day had significantly less (or no) PMS than subjects who got a median of the least amount of vitamin D, 112 IU per day. So it’s not just about getting some vitamin D, but rather getting a potent dose. · Chaste tree berry (Vitex) – This extract has been shown to reduce PMS, based on

a randomized placebo-controlled threemonth study of premenstrual syndrome in 170 women (average age 36) which was published in the British Medical Journal. The results showed that 20 mg of chaste berry extract reduced PMS about 28% better than placebo. The women noted significant reductions in irritability, mood disturbances, anger, headache, and breast fullness compared to the placebo group. · Calcium carbonate – The Journal of General Internal Medicine published the results of a study that concluded that calcium carbonate could reduce pain and water retention before and during a woman’s cycle. This randomized placebocontrolled study of 78 women showed a 58 percent better reduction in PMS with 1,000 mg of calcium carbonate than with placebo during the luteal and menstrual phases of the reproductive cycle. · Magnesium – Two double-blind, placebo-controlled studies published in the Journal of Women’s Health showed that magnesium at 360 mg per day reduced headaches and pain, and at 200 mg reduced weight gain, fluid retention, swelling of extremities, breast tenderness and abdominal bloating.

· Vitamin E – The Journal of Reproductive Medicine published a study that showed vitamin E reduced 15 categories of PMS symptoms. This randomized, placebo-controlled study confirmed a previous study that showed all major categories of PMS symptoms are improved with a daily supplementation of 400 IU of vitamin E." In all 15 categories of symptoms, vitamin E supplemented women reported 27-42 percent reduction in severity. “The effects of these nutrients start the first month and generally reach maximum PMS reduction levels by month three,” Mooney added. “Women deserve to share the fruits of modern nutritional science and be informed that they can reduce their PMS discomfort without relying on drugs with all their dangerous side effects, but instead, by using nutrients that are natural to the body in the proven effective potencies.” Michael Mooney is the Director of Research and Education for SuperNutrition Life Extension Research (http://supernutritionusa.com). Freedom: A State of Mind by Debbie Paulk, Contributing Success Editor Several years ago, a vacation in the magical city of Sedona, Arizona sparked a new perception of my reality, a newfound freedom within that I had never quite experienced before. Perhaps it was the energy I felt emanating from the magnificent red rocks or the brilliance of the stars that covered the moonlit sky. The world I’d known changed forever. The world I had grown accustomed to was filled with deadlines, demands and stress. A blur of days turned to weeks, months and years with no true feelings of purpose, passion or meaning. I had allowed myself to be defined by how society describes success. I worked all the time at a job that was sucking the life out of me. Sure, I made a decent living and I had a bunch of material things mostly purchased to help ease the pain of how miserably unfilled I felt. My trip to Sedona was my wake-up call. The changes that occurred in my life immediately following that trip were life-transforming for me. I quit my corporate job, simplified my lifestyle and embarked on a whole new exciting journey in life, one that allowed me to express my true self, and a fresh new feeling of freedom was born. I’m not saying it was simple or easy but I found it to be one

of the best decisions and growing experiences of my life. We can live in a country that was founded on the principles of freedom, but that alone does not make us feel free. Feeling free is expressing ourselves authentically, as the person we were born to be. We are all unique. We all have our special talents and gifts that flow naturally from us. Aligning with our passions, gifts and talents allows the flow of energy to guide us where our hearts desire. Some people have shared with me how the challenges of our economy have them concerned about their jobs and finances. Others have expressed feelings of gratitude toward leaving their old jobs behind, and how they have turned their passion and talents into successful businesses or careers. Having gone through a career change at midlife, I know exactly how scary it can be. It often helps to talk with someone who has made it through a similar experience and has encouraging words and advice. I look back now on my first trip to Sedona as more than just the usual vacation. I was divinely guided there to ignite a passion within me that had laid dormant for years. I had no idea that my life transformation and career change experience would be used to assist others through the same process in their lives. The timing couldn’t have been any more perfect. I didn’t know it at the time, but our country was on the verge of an economic collapse. I have come to use my passion for people and connecting with them to help inspire and empower others to explore and discover their passion in life. PREPARING FOR CHANGE Earth Changes as Divine Will by Rev. Andrew Cekun

M

any in the New Age movement are labeling any forecasts of Earth Changes in 2012 as “negative, fear based messages.” In this way, they can dismiss any possibility of destruction or cataclysm, conveniently avoiding hard truths. The Master Kuthumi has stated: “The inability of so many to engage meaningfully with the realization that the present order is about to be destroyed is the consequence of the presumptuous belief that nothing on this scale could possibly be allowed to happen to them.” So where do such beliefs originate within New Age spirituality? It is my observation that these idealistic beliefs come from an incomplete understanding about the true nature of God. Both Christianity and New Age spirituality rightly emphasize God as Love. In theology, God is often described as a Trinity. In the Ageless Wisdom teachings, this Trinity is defined as Will, Love, and Intelligence. We can further describe God as Creator, Sustainer and Destroyer. It is the Will that represents the Destroyer aspect of Deity. The Tibetan Master Djwhal Khul (D.K.) writes “… of the well-meaning people of the world who talk vaguely and beautifully about love, but refuse to consider the techniques of the will of God in operation, they cannot believe that a God of Love could possibly employ the first divine aspect to destroy the forms which are obstructing the free play of the divine spirit; that will must not infringe upon their interpretation of love.” [Esoteric Astrology, pp 584-5].

Master D.K. when speaking of the First or Will Aspect of Deity as The Finger of God: “Through the application of the Finger of God in its directing and forceful work, we have the cyclic destruction of forms, so that the manifestation of Deity may grow in power and beauty. Thus the Lord of Power or Will performs the task of destruction, thereby bringing beauty into being and the revelation of God’s will and His beneficent purpose.” [Esoteric Psychology, Vol. I, p. 133]. Many New Agers are suggesting Earth Changes can be averted with mass intention, positive thinking on a global scale. Evidently, some people believe they know better than God what the Earth needs for its evolutionary progress. Destruction of the present order is judged to be bad and to be avoided at all costs. Let us align our personal will with Divine Will and serve courageously as planetary citizens in the transformation of the Earth.

WE ARE the New Dream

The promise of the freedom to pursue the opportunity to achieve success and prosperity as we are all created equal. But where has chasing the dream led us as a society?

Someone recently shared a story with me that reveals the true state of many individuals caught up in the old dream. Living near the downtown area of Orlando, a man who we will call John, regularly passed a park where a few people without permanent homes were located. One particular man stood out to him. He was often seen lying in the grass, hands behind his head, just being where he found himself. A few weeks later, John spotted this same man at a local convenience store. The man had acquired a bicycle and John observed him locking up his bike so that no one would take it while he went into the store. While driving home from work a few weeks after that, he saw the same man riding his bicycle, except now the man had a small trailer he could pull behind him to carry his belongings. The story ends with John spotting the man on the same road after a few more weeks had passed only this time the man was pushing his bike. The load on the trailer he was pulling had become so large and heavy as he had accumulated more belongings, he was

unable to ride his bicycle and pull the trailer at the same time. That story created a vivid word-picture for me. How many of us are dragging a heavy load and are unable to move through life with ease? How many of the stress-related health conditions we are trying to alleviate and manage can be attributed to the load we carry? How many of those heavy burdens are things we have chosen to carry? The time has come to pursue a New Dream, to loosen our grip on attachments to things and situations and begin to let go and lighten our loads. My vision for the New American Dream is this: A society that chooses to live from the heart, letting go of the old energy of fear, competition, lack, anger, hate and embracing the energy of unconditional love and compassion for self and others. I envision that we recognize the Light within ourselves and each other as we join together in community and connectedness, remembering who we truly are. What we focus on grows. Let us grow light, love, truth, peace, and unity— the highest and best for each one. Being present with what is happening in the moment we find ourselves instead of striving to be somewhere else. Allow yourself a moment to pause. Close your eyes. Breathe. Listen. Feel what is present in your heart. Be. Are you ready to embrace a new way of living that balances being and doing and let go of things, ideas and habits that weigh you down and no longer serve you? We always have the power to choose. In the late 60s, my brother was serving in Viet Nam while I watched the hippie revolution with great interest here at home. I felt torn between supporting him and agreeing with the growing anti-war sentiment. Could I be a hippie and a good brother at the same time?

Though we may express it differently and even see it as being made possible in different ways, we all want to experience three main things—comfort, inner peace and love. This sounds as idealistic as the lyrics of John’s song, but why not hold that vision?

When he returned, I told him of my conflicting feelings. His response brought both surprise and relief. He told me how disillusioned in the American cause he had become and that there was no one more anti-war than the average infantryman in Viet Nam, and that I should follow my heart.

Today’s shift in consciousness and thinking reminds me of the 60s. Disillusioned by the unfruitful quest for satisfaction in the outer world, people everywhere are turning inward for answers and finding them. Spiritual teachings are now being confirmed by science and a new reality is dawning.

Soon after that, I heard John Lennon’s Imagine for the first time. What a beautiful dream. No countries, no religion, no reason to fight, no separation of people by beliefs or geographical boundaries!?

I remain appreciative to the men and women who made personal sacrifices for our freedom, including my brother. My choice, though, is to believe in a time when such efforts are no longer needed. A time when the inner peace and joy of collective individuals will be reflected by a world of global harmony. A time when a clear recognition of our connectedness transcends borders and other misconceived separation.

Forty more years of living haven’t changed my feelings. Though I feel fortunate to live in a country with many freedoms, I cannot in good conscience bless all things American, nor can I identify myself with any one area of the globe or one group of people. I am a human being, part of a family comprised of all living things. My interests, dreams and aspirations are for the good of the whole of creation. I see no difference between the American dream and that of the rest of the world.

Sensual Liberation Love Yourself: To be loved and appreciated by

others we must first love and appreciate ourselves. To receive the attention we desire from a potential mate or current partner, we can’t be so hard on ourselves. If you don’t think highly of yourself, what are the odds someone else will be willing to do it for you? Self-love builds self confidence which is the sexiest attraction of all.

Playtime Anyone?: Playing isn’t just for kids.

Sure, grown up playtime certainly takes on a different dynamic but the concept and purpose is pretty much the same. We all need a chance to let go of the “to-do” lists and allow ourselves to let our imaginations run wild. This is a good place for “role playing.” It gives us the chance to be whoever we want to be. Playtime also includes playing with a partner or lover as well as being able to play alone.

Free Your Mind: Our minds are our greatest asset or sometimes our worst enemy. As Henry Ford said, “Whether you think you can or you can’t, either way you’re right.” Learn when to simply let go of things that no longer serve your highest good. Realize that change is the only constant, for without it we become stagnant and begin to die. Our words help reinforce the messages our minds hold onto, so watch them carefully to ensure we speak in empowering ways. Allow yourself to think of sensual pleasures as being something we have a right to enjoy.

Learn from and Appreciate Your Past: Good or bad, right or wrong, success or fail, everything

we experience is necessary to have arrived at our current point in life. We typically learn more from our mistakes because we’re forced to stop and reassess whatever process we’re in at that moment. When thinking of your sensual self, build on what’s worked in the past and allow that to grow. Be willing to take chances with your sensual expression whether giving or receiving. Recognize those uncomfortable times in the past but acknowledge that you survived and came out on the other side more evolved. It’s important to free yourself of any guilt or shame carried over from the past and forgive.

Live Your OWN Life and Challenge Convention: Life is a gift. We’re here to experience

the world and the people in it through our senses. We must allow ourselves the freedom to express without judgment or limitation. We must have the courage to allow those closest to us the chance to express themselves fully. Challenge the status quo, but do so in a way that doesn’t leave others feeling invalidated or ignored. Take responsibility for your pleasure as you communicate your needs and desires openly and honestly. Embrace the opportunity to be a part of another’s ecstasy as you share a gift free of expectations. “Give Me Liberty!” sounds very much

like a patriotic declaration. It is much more. It is a personal and spiritual fiat that emanates from the one source of power that becomes everything. Though it sounds so simple, the idea of free will takes consciousness and focus to bring its meaning into our understanding. We often find ourselves feeling trapped or limited and we blame a multitude of circumstances. We own our limitations and tell others about them. We tell everyone, including ourselves, that these limitations are the reasons we are unable to live the life we desire. The fact is, there is nothing outside of us that limits us. Our only limitations are inside of us and as long as we continue to blame something outside of ourselves, limitations will endure. We have the ability to control and change what is inside of us. When we awaken to the fact that the limitation is within, we can release it. We’ve all heard stories of amazing people who have triumphed over every type of disease using nothing more than their own mind and will. People with physical handicaps are breaking athletic records. You might know someone who started a career when most people are retiring and turned it into the most successful endeavor of his life. People with little or no formal education are reaching tremendous levels of success in every career. People have survived unimaginable traumas and gone on to live with a level of passion that others only dream about.

For many years, I lived with limitations that I believed were insurmountable. I had good reason to feel that I was trapped in my circumstances. I believed that life was hard and the only really happy people had some sort of unseen and unfair advantage over me. They must have had rich parents or they were born with talents that I didn’t possess, or they just happened to know the right people, or … The excuses went on and on. One day, I had an amazing insight about the nature of my reality: I was creating it with my beliefs and choices! I’d had enough of the old life, and from every cell in my body I made a declaration of freedom. My life underwent profoundly dynamic changes in a very short period. When will you be ready to release limitations? How long must you live an unfulfilled life before you decide to assume responsibility and take control now? Choose to be free! Honestly look within at the source of whatever is not perfect yet in your life. What is the message that the limitation has for you? Acknowledge the message and embody the learning. As a hypnotist who moved from England to the United States to pursue the American Dream, people ask what is most noticeably different about the two countries. “The beer’s colder over here,” I reply. The point is that the concepts underpinning the American Dream exist within the individual’s mind and are not confined to any one geographical area. Having said that, the American Dream is about the power to reinvent oneself. F. Scott Fitzgerald powerfully conveys this concept in the story of James Gatz, a poor farm boy who achieves wealth through his efforts as a bootlegger and transforms himself into the socialite Jay Gatsby. The historian David Potter described Americans as “people of plenty,” their identity based on the concept that resources are unlimited. More recently, the concept of the American Dream has evolved. I am beginning to think it is true what John Lennon’s song said, “Life is what happens while you are busy making other plans.” Maybe this is because I am such a planner and have always had a long list of goals and aspirations. A friend of mine who was in the movie, The Secret, told me that many transformational leaders and billionaire friends have a list of 5,000 written goals. I almost fell over. I tried two years ago to accumulate at least 500. One beautiful September night I sat in a high class restaurant in Orlando with my journal, working frenetically through dinner to get 500 written goals. I had gained the attention of many at the bar area where I was safely eating dinner as a single girl. One woman asked coyly, “What have you been so busy writing about all night?” Everyone seemed to lift their ear to hear my response. I answered, “Oh, just goals. I am trying to get 500 down before my birthday!” I smiled, thinking she had her answer, but I saw on her mortified face that she was totally disgusted. She began wagging her diamond-clad finger in my face, saying, “Honey, I am a multi-millionaire and I never sat at dinner writing goals.” She continued, everyone cringing at her cruel words. I realized that this was her problem. I timed her and 18 painful minutes later, she finished. “Little does she know,” I thought as I walked to my car, “that it was not about money. A few goals were, yet most were about a quality of life in the level of spirit.”

I’ve had a huge discovery about goals, which is that if you can picture more the quality of life you want, it is easier to attain the actual goal. It is more about feeling and energy. Picture in your mind one of your favorite romantic memories. Now feel how the moment actually felt. For example, I dreamed of a relationship that was a deep and adventurous partnership. My picture was back in my Iowa childhood spending time with my third and youngest brother, Daniel. We would do adventurous things together. I was always a curious sort and he was always glad to see what I was so curious about! So we adventured through the years and even into college years as great friends. For many months before my wedding on 1/1/11, I meditated every day. I would picture the presence of God in full being on that day. I wanted all the things every girl wants–a Vera Wang gown with a perfect figure, calla lily bouquet, five-star delectables at the reception. But in meditation I would get very quiet and “speed manifest” by picturing the energy of each. I pictured myself at a time when I felt connected to God and fully open to all that is. I transposed that feeling onto the picture of myself walking down the aisle. Then I saw Fabian, my husband, and his joy and delight at my beauty from a memory I knew took his

breath away as he was deep in gratitude for me. I transposed that onto him. I pictured the moving experience of intimate friendships and masterminds where we shared our dreams, describing them from our imagination for hours. I overlaid this experience onto the reception dinner. As I got clearer and clearer I released all these desires back to God in my quiet contemplative moments at five in the morning. When New Year’s Day came, I meditated with a smile as the sun came up across the Atlantic ocean. I sat out on the balcony of The W hotel and could see the terrace where I would soon marry my great love. The experience was truly beyond words. Many described it as the most spiritual wedding they had ever been to. I felt graced by the presence of God on a day that is for many brides, a very earthbound day. Not only because it is such an expensive day, but because it is so focused on being perfect in the physical plane. We jumped a flight to the Middle East for our honeymoon. Fabian and I walked through the slippery stone streets of old Jerusalem. Different shopkeepers called to me in English to share their finery. My tall husband trailed beside me watching me discover with amazement the Bedouin jewelry that looked like junk but was antique and extremely rare. We were pulled in and given strong Turkish coffee with cardamom sprinkled on top. I felt a jolt of energy noticing my husband’s excitement and interest as we discovered silk hand-stitched pillows hundreds of years old. He was just like my brother in many ways. This brought such joy to my soul! He embodied a mosaic of goals on that list. So I realized to speed up the process and avoid a writer’s cramp, it is best to picture with the feeling or experience of what you want. I can say I truly discovered what John Lennon said. Life is the force that took my plans, my goals, and made the day actually happen while I was busy making 500 other plans. And with certainty we know that the opposite of peace is war and that there is no shortage of wars going on at this moment. And we know that war means "conflict,” no matter if it is external or internal conflict. And significantly, we know that both conflict (or war) and peace begin in the mind. So given that both conflict and peace begin in the mind, we can ask ourselves, myself included, what can we do as we live our so called “everyday lives” (at the supermarket, at work, at home, and so on) to help bring about world peace? Vince Gill echoed Gandhi with lyrics to one of his songs, “Let there be peace on earth, and let it begin with me.” These words echo all spiritual teachings. It is with our own individual choosing of how we would see, and therefore act, either with peace or with conflict, that we choose to bring either peace or conflict into the world, knowing that each of our choices has its own external and internal consequences or karmic results. The Dalai Lama said it this way, “World disarmament begins with inner disarmament,” so practicing inner disarmament is the most valuable thing we can do to bring about world peace. How do we practice inner disarmament? No matter our spiritual practice, we can practice remembering to ask our Inner Teacher (without regret when we forget, because we will) to help us both recognize and disarm our own inner armaments or opposites to peace, such as anger, stress, fear, doubt, worry, perhaps our fear of love or loving, or fear of having a peaceful mind. To paraphrase Gandhi, we can try to “become the change we want to see in the world.” What do you think? HEAL YOUR HEART: FOOD, MEDICINE AND YOUR SACRED BODY by Daniel Rieders, MD, FACC, FHRS “It is the nature of your body to have health; to be vigorous, lean, virile, propagate and reproduce, and thrive.” —Charles Darwin This is the nature of all the cells in our bodies. Is this the nature of life? I believe Charles Darwin, the great biologist, would agree. Let’s assume this to be true for the moment. So where and why does this go amiss? And just as important, how do we get this process, the nature of our bodies and cells back on track, and keep it there? The scientists theorize about the imperfections of our regenerative genetics. They profess that this is part of our Darwinian existence, to live long enough to reproduce and raise our offspring till they can fend for themselves, that our bodies and cells are programmed for this and this alone, and then Darwinian biology dictates that it is preferred that we perish. How do the cells of our bodies know that our offspring can fend for themselves? They may, or probably, don’t know. So earth to Daniel, where are we going with this? The answer is that I am laying a foundation in our heart and souls, since all of these ideas are running rampant in our subconscious minds. So do we have to trick, deceive or fool our bodies into health? In life, trickery, deception, and foolery are the architects of defeat and failure. Our cells know this (as if they could know anything). Scientists manipulate the biochemical and cellular pathways and even DNA and RNA (RNA is the workhorse of our DNA). Whether this is right or wrong, this is the nature of our medicine. And what is the longterm result? The reality is that they do have data, voluminous and all sorts of data, data

about things we have probably have never considered (in terms of consequences). They do not have data in terms of tens of thousands of years, Darwinian data. But who does? So our scientists and our medical empire have the arrogance to believe they know better than their Mother, that is, Mother Nature, Mother Earth. Scientists commonly use surrogates for their endpoints of effectiveness and safety. They study these surrogates to determine validity. This is a practicality. So what about so-called natural medicine, organic, holistic and naturalopathic medicines and food? If food or medicine is labeled organic or natural, then it must be safe and good for us or at least better for us, but how natural is it? Where is the short-term and long-term data? How about cost-effectiveness? My personal view and bias is that the same standards we use for pharmaceuticals are the same standards we should use for other foods, nutrients and medications we take into our bodies. Safety and efficacy are published in peer review journals. We should seek out data and medical evidence for what we put into our bodies. We can trust in our medical providers by their credentials, education, training, outcomes and track records. So you go see the doctor and they pile on a bunch of pharmaceutical drugs. It’s kind of ridiculous. Think of the cost, the real and potential side-effects, drug interactions, and the

logistics of correctly taking those drugs. When and how do you keep track of all the drugs? What precautions do you take or not (such as ‘take with food or without’)? And do the drugs actually work? If so, do they work in a meaningful way to us, the patients?

Feel Closer to the Universe

So you go to see an alternative doctor and they prescribe naturalopathic or homeopathic remedies? The same issues with these remedies exist equivalently to those of pharmaceuticals. Sorry folks. They cost. They have side-effects, drug interactions and logistics, and do they work in a meaningful way for you? The same issues.

Stress is all pervasive in this technologically driven, rat race world. If we are not managing our stress effectively, the results begin to not only drain us emotionally and mentally, but physically as well. One way to help eliminate stress from our lives is to spend some time in the outdoors.

The first issue is safety and efficacy. Is what you are putting into a sacred place—your body—safe? Let’s talk about what is sacred. All the cells and organs in our bodies regenerate. Their mission in life is to be healthy and radiant and to have our bodies work in a natural and healthy manner. “It is the nature of your body to have radiant health.” We have to respect this and allow good health. What we eat as food or take as medicine is sacred. We need to be grateful and understand the food that goes between our lips goes into a sacred space and remember this with every bite, that the food we eat or medicine we take has the potential to give us life and radiant health. An important aspect to consider as you seek drugs, medications, tonics, elixirs, herbs, nutrients, vitamins, naturalopathics and homeopathics is that your healthcare provider is in business. They see you to make money. There is an inherent conflict of interest. Be careful. Important Notes Concerning Taking Medicines and Remedies: • When you visit your healthcare provider, bring in all of your medications, pharmaceuticals, vitamins, supplements and nutrients so each can be charted in your file, accurately. Your healthcare providers want to know. Assume every list is not accurate. Show them what you take and exactly how you take it. •

Heart patients generally NEED to be on at least five or six medications, minimum. This is supported by voluminous medical evidence. The same applies in many other fields.

FREEDOM BEGINS BY LIVING IN THE MOMENT

The Journey of Life is like driving down the highway. We know we cannot drive safely if we’re looking in the rear view mirror all the time. If we did, we could fail to see the curve in the road, a child on a bicycle or a stop sign. The results would be disastrous. Likewise, if we hold out hope for some exciting turn that may or may not lie ahead, we lose focus on the road, missing the scenery or worse, causing an accident. Our best use of the flow of time is to allow the past only to orient ourselves in the present. It is perfectly acceptable to wisely use past experiences as seeds for learning and developing, preventing repetition of mistakes. But if you are always trying to get back to conditions of the past or flee from them, you remove yourself from the natural flow and impede your own development. Thoughts are powerful forms. Thoughts grounded in the past contain the power to bring back old reactions that are not necessarily appropriate for what is being experienced now. Living in the present moment means letting go of that which is either dead or unborn and accepting what exists. It is acceptance of ourselves for who we are. The greater our self-acceptance, the less need we have to strive for something different. We let go of self-rejection. We have more freedom to be who we really are.

ur lives are suspended in the continuum of time. We are constantly moving from yesterday toward tomorrow. Yesterday becomes only a memory of the past. Tomorrow is still a dream of what may come. Yet today, the Now, is the only time in which we are truly living. It is our authentic experience. Once we have experienced it, it too fades into memory and we enter a new moment of life. For our lives to flow freely and fully, we must experience each present moment while we are in it. Our tendency, however, is to remain stuck in the past or look to the future. We miss what is happening now in all its vitality and fullness.

Being present with what is allows us to see exactly what is going on around us. Reality. Then we are in tune with natural laws, the flux of constant change. When we are in alignment, we ebb with the tides and bend with the winds. This means: No more and no less. It gives us freedom from fixed ideas of what has to be. Our identities are no longer dependent on outside experiences, but are naturally free flowing from our inner selves. Then we do not hold on to any moment but relish it for what it is. If we strive for the golden coin of happiness based on yesterday or tomorrow, we miss the treasure of today. THE OLD WAY: TO DO 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7.

Assess. (Where am I now?) Set goals. (What do I want?) Use proven success strategies. Determine next steps. Do it/take action. Enjoy my success. Recommit.

Look familiar? This is how I “did” my business life. I followed the rules, sought good business advice and, in the words of a friend, “built my empire.” I bought my office, my home and my retirement property. I had six month’s emergency funds in the bank and my only debt was real property. The old “To Do” served me well. I made my goals and lists and checked them off one-by-one. My next goal was to invest in a rental property each year until I could retire. I was well on my way to achieving the American Dream. I woke up one day to severe, mysterious health problems. I tried all the logical things— specialists for my health, hiring more staff, lease-optioning my retirement property, even taking a less physically demanding job. Though it occasionally slowed, nothing stopped the downward spiral. I was watching my dreams circle the drain. In tears, I called a friend. “I don’t know what to do!” I cried to her. “Joanna, become a Life Coach.” Something in my gut locked and loaded. Life was about to change dramatically

Checking into my former reality, I understood my belief in hard work had crippled me. Whatever I focus on expands. I believed that hard work was the way, so I got more hard work to do. There was no room for the concept of abundance in my old way of doing things. It has taken me a while to release the old way, and sometimes I go back for more of that hard work. Though I sold my office, lost both my home and retirement property, exhausted all funds and was forced into bankruptcy, I’m happier now than I’ve ever been in my life. I’ve learned the difference between “To Do” and “Ta Da!” Everything I can reasonably do goes on my To Do list. Those are my responsibilities. The rest goes on the Ta Da! list where the Divine can act on it without interference from me. That’s step #5, Trust, wait, act only on guidance. When it’s time, the guidance always comes if I’m open to it. (What happens when I don’t? That’s a story for another day.) I invite you to try on Ta Da!, if only for a day. EXPAND ON WHAT

WE THINK AND

THEREFORE DREAM BY REV. ANN OTZELBERGER

When we think of a dream, most of us think of something that we do not really expect to come about, at least not in our life- time. When I was a child, people told me I was a dreamer and that the things I thought of were beyond ever being real. Most of those people are not around now, but I found that those dreams I had can, have and will continue to become real. My dream is for world peace and harmony. I once had a friend who said, “Don’t think of world peace and harmony, think of universal peace and harmony.” I believe he was correct in saying universal. This world is getting too big, too expanded to only think world. For many of us, our world is the earth, and we go no further. We first need to expand our mind and take universe into our thinking. For many of us, our world takes into account many different planes of existence. We know that we have the ability to expand our thinking and our communication to other vibrations. We have teachers who are on a higher level of existence and these teachers are ready to help us in our path here in this world. Of course, it is my belief that we are never on the wrong path, we must be on the right path for us. Our path will lead us into many different and interesting places on our way to learning what and how to have universal peace and harmony. As a Spiritualist, I believe that mental force, good, bad, or indifferent, can be considered as one and the same thing—a force or substance, acting under certain rates of vibration. Thought force travels in waves, much the same as the sound waves of a radio, therefore thoughts you put into the ether will affect your life and all humanity. Humanity must come to realize that our material progression and our spiritual unfoldment are governed by our own thoughts, our own mental processes. The phrase “As a man thinketh in his heart so he is,” does happen to be a real and demonstrable theory. Some people say our deeds control our lives, that the things we do bring what we want or don’t want into our lives. We bring happiness or unhappiness into our lives through the power of our own thought habits, therefore if we control our thoughts, what is detrimental to our progression and well-being will not come into being. I have learned from many trials and errors that we create what we want and need with our minds. At least, that is how we start to bring substance into our lives. Can you even imagine what we could all accomplish if we had the same thoughts of peace and harmony? I teach that THOUGHTS ARE THINGS. We can put limits on ourselves if we allow ourselves to think in a negative manner. It is up to us. We must take personal responsibility to create what we want and need in our lives. A NEW SOCIETY WITH HONESTY AND INTEGRITY by Albert J. Nuñez, DVM, CVA Contributing Spiritual Life Editor

and a sage sit on a hill “being” when up comes a beautiful girl running for her life. She begs, “Which way is safe?” The sage and the fool point right and off she goes in a hurry to escape! They continue to “be” on the hill. A while later a rough group of drunken men come up the hill and demand to know which way the girl went. One points right and the other left. Off the men go to the left in a hurry. The fool looks at the sage and smiles. Who pointed left? Did honesty collide with integrity? In life, on many points we’re all fools or we play fools. You know, I struggled with this article, not because I don’t honor the truth. I do. I struggled because it reminded me of all the times when my honesty and my integrity butted heads. I remembered all the times when I had not functioned fully from my highest truth and had fallen short of the mark for others or myself. I almost did not write this article because I did not want to be hypocritical or be judged. I watched my mind rerun old scenarios, sort of like judgment day. I reran scripts I thought I had dealt with years ago. I begged the universe to find someone else to write this, someone infallible, someone who was always honest, who was always in integrity, someone who had all the right answers, someone who was not me, someone like you, but you were not here to write this article so I looked in the mirror and decided to be brave, vulnerable and honest enough for at least this moment and I picked up this pen. To function with honesty and integrity on all levels is a blessing! It seems that the best thing about functioning out of honesty and integrity is that you never have to remember what you have said, since what you say is coming from your highest truth. If you have ever functioned outside of honesty and integrity, you know the incredibly large amount of energy needed to maintain an untruth. Lack of integrity sets you on a spiral of shame and guilt that zaps your energy and can take ten times as much energy to get back to a neutral state of being, if you have a conscience. If you do not have a conscience, like when the amygdala (a structure in the brain believed to be partly responsible for compassion and the conscience) is damaged, then shame and guilt are not a problem. Only the consequences of your actions are.

The truth hurts for a moment but a lie lasts for a lifetime. One of the biggest injustices these days is self-censoring. Many people censor themselves depending on the rules within their countries or their mental boundaries. In many places, journalists and average citizens are threatened for reporting the truth from their perspectives about government or criminal elements. I don’t even dare say or write about what I really think on many subjects for fear that one day those that watch will pull in the noose. We’ve seen what happens to people who organize, educate and tell too many truths about sensitive or unpopular subjects. The tallest nail gets hammered down first! Yet it’s going to take the courage of many people to actually begin to talk about the important issues, and even more courage to actually begin to do something about what we are now too afraid, or too comfortable, to talk about. For our society to function we need honesty and integrity. For our society to grow we need to be even more honest, and question everything we think we know about our current systems. I have often questioned how free our current system really is, with so many people not saying what they truly feel for fear of being judged by their neighbors, or creating too many waves that would make them more visible and more vulnerable. I’ve wondered for years what happened to all the hippies and protestors from the 60s? I wonder if our society is now so perfect that we have nothing to complain about, or if we are too comfortable in our ways, or too afraid, to find out that freedom is not as free as we think it is, should we dare to rock the boat. I remember how the French were ridiculed for wanting peace after 9/11. It is so hard to be the only person holding up a white flag against a stampede of nationalism and raw emotion. Usually the person with the peace flag gets run over under those circumstances and ridiculed, or worse. In order to change the kinds of problems that we have today one person is not enough. We need a critical mass, all of us standing shoulder to shoulder. It’s going to take that kind of courage, honesty and integrity on a mass scale to

The New American Nightmare (?) by Dr. Jim Vigue

I am a big fan of Norman Vincent Peale’s, The Power of Positive Thinking, and I have always been a positive person, but frankly it is getting harder and harder to remain positive these days. There are still nearly 15 million Americans that can’t find work. We have a huge deficit in this country and a crippling debt crisis. Real estate values have plummeted and now 30% of Americans owe more on their mortgage than their homes are worth. Is the new American nightmare lower real estate values, lower stock prices, lower family net worth, devastated retirement plans, higher food and fuel costs, higher health care costs and a reduced standard of living? This seems to be the way we are headed. Do you know that the U. S. Federal Reserve is now the single largest holder of U. S. debt? The reason for this is that U. S. Treasuries are so unattractive to foreign governments that the Fed has to be the buyer of last resort. Just so you understand, the U. S. Federal Reserve is simply creating money out of thin air so it can buy our debt because other investors are no longer interested in it. This is one of the schemes Washington is using to prop up this bubble that could burst at any moment. So what does all this mean to you and your American dream? First of all, prices will continue to rise especially for health care. Medicare will be broke in less than ten years unless benefits are cut and eligibility is toughened. The solution is to not get sick. We are a country with a medical system based on treatment of disease instead of prevention of disease. We have the highest medical costs in the world yet we are not even in the top 20 countries in longevity. Thirty percent of our population is obese. Diabetes rates in this country are soaring.

We give hundreds of millions of dollars to cancer organizations yet we see minimal improvement in cancer cure rates. Again, all these organizations are based on treating cancer and not preventing it. Adequate vitamin D levels in our population would probably, in itself, cut cancer risk by 50% yet we don’t see these organizations educating us about this. Here are some steps you have to take to make sure your American Dream doesn’t become your American Nightmare: The world is becoming much more stressful. Learn meditation or something like tapping (Emotional Freedom Technique) to control stress. Be prepared. Don’t overextend yourself financially. Have cash reserves and optimally, some gold and silver. FEMA has bought up massive amounts of dehydrated and freeze-dried foods. Do they know something we don’t? Consider having at least a month’s worth of food, medicines, natural supplements and necessities in your home. Have a garden if possible. Control your environment. Get a good water filter for your home and air purifiers for key rooms in your home. Think solar if finances permit. Have a back up solar or natural gas generator. Limit the toxins in your environment. Watch what you eat. Avoid highly processed foods. Eat fresh as much as possible. Avoid sugar. Make sure you are getting enough vitamin D (you may want to take a test and see what your level is. Most Floridians do not have optimal levels.) You will need a strong immune system. Be prepared for anything. The world is changing and you need to change with it. Improve your relationships with your family members because a strong family may be your greatest asset during stressful times. Aging Is Inevitable.

The face has more than 22 muscles constantly performing a full range of movements and expressions. As the wear and tear of the environment, diet, aging, imbalances and gravity ensue, the skin begins to show signs of aging. Here are some skin treatments that can counter the effects of aging. The results can be dramatic but ARE NOT the same as a surgical procedure.

Mesotherapy

Safe, micro-doses of customized homeopathic compounds are injected for healing and corrective treatment. They nourish, rejuvenate, promote production of collagen and elastin, and stimulate the metabolism on the cellular level. unconditional love a time in space • a space in time by Diane J. Ackerman Life is full of challenges and surprises. We wonder “Why is this happening to me?” and “Why does it have to be so painful?” The answer is we choose and repeat our lessons until we learn from them and move on. The term unconditional love is often misunderstood as "unconditional step all over me." When it (in my reality) means, “I love you for all the lessons you have presented to me and now I can move on or stay but the choice is mine. Either way I still love you." We tend to adopt feelings of guilt and judgment. These are thoughts and patterns taught by well-intended mentors who are often stuck in the dogma of their religions or politics. We often stay in these limitations out of fear or shame, the consequence being a continuous attraction of the same or similar people or events that help us to create our private hell. Once again it is our choice to remove ourselves or perpetuate the agony by allowing the event or person to control our destiny in the name of love. Our self serving desire to be right at any cost is often a factor in our decisions.

mindset takes some time and energy and while it is very simple, it is not often easy. Society and cultures have taught us to fight for what we want and for a time it may seem as though we are totally successful, unfortunately only until we recognize there must be a balance between ego and soul. We look outside ourselves to experience happiness and fulfillment when all along our true happiness is inside residing with soul and the unconditional love we are born with rather than returning to or repeating our past negative experiences. We might take another path like forgiveness. Forgive the one that hurt you and thank him or her for presenting the lesson. After all, it is merely a reflection of that part of you that needs to

I guess the question is, do we want to be happy or do we want to be right? When choosing rightness over happiness we are serving “EGO,” which is “Edging God Out,” by constantly defending ourselves through judgment and control. However if we are in a space of SOUL, it no longer matters who is right. We have chosen the "Sanctuary of Unconditional Love" and soul has no need to fight or create chaos– only peacefulness. This

be understood and re-created. It is not our job to condemn or condone the faults of others by embarrassing or berating them. It is our obligation to be an example of love. If the other person does not choose a loving path, then we can move on with a clear consciousness knowing we have done our best. Wish them the best and remember the choice is yours as to who you want to be and who you want to be with. Your focus must be on you and your new life. Dwelling on the negative events of your past will not only bring you down but pose as a block to your future happiness. Look forward to new horizons with love in your heart and forgiveness in your soul. We don't always have to know the reasons for someone else's actions. Just hold a space of love for them and eventually they will come home. It's God's universal law. We are born of love and die into love. What goes around comes around, though perhaps not always in our time frame. However, when we hold love as a time in space and a space in time, patience will reveal the parking space closest to heaven's door. generations, the American Dream stood for opportunity and freedom. It stood for the freedom to pursue a life richer than our parents had lived. It meant going to college to secure a high paying job. We would get married and have two children and buy a home surrounded by a white picket fence. We would have two cars in the driveway. During the baby boomer generation many of us gave up the cherished idea of living the American Dream held dearly by our parents. We marched for peace, indulged in free love and brought about the counter-culture movement. In our eagerness to show the world how to live the new American Dream, we went back to the land to live in love and peace, however reality hit us when we realized that moving back to the land meant hard work. Perhaps our parents were right after all! So the masses, including myself, went back to the grindstone of a job and moved to suburbia. Life became serious business on the endless treadmill to get ahead. Getting ahead consumed us more and more until we were glutted with bigger houses, credit card

We thought the bubble of good would never end, however the bubble burst and many Americans who had worked hard at jobs they really didn’t like found their lives in ruins. First the high paying job went. Without income to support our lavish lifestyle, the home was then repossessed. The X Generation, our children, found that they had lost the American Dream, too. They could not find a job, let alone a well paying job that was promised would be waiting for them after they incurred large student loan debts. You could begin to see the fear in our parents’ eyes that had lived through the Great Depression as children. The Silent Generation was sure that a depression like what had happened during their youth was happening all over again in our country. The American Dream as our parents and grandparents had envisioned in their lifetime was now dead. What are we to do now that the American Dream is dead? First, we must wake up from the dream and face reality. We must come to the realization that it was only a dream that has turned into a nightmare for the masses. Now we need to let go of the American Dream and have a Global Dream. We must begin to realize that we are all interconnected. What happens in Japan affects what happens in America. What happens in America affects what happens in Europe. What happens in Europe affects what happens in Africa. We are no longer separate islands in the giant stream of life. We need a vision, instead of a dream, that will bind us together as a human race. Rev. Mary Blocher was ordained as a Unity Minister in 2005. Rev. Stay present to the moment and keep breathing. Now is indeed the time to create a New American Dream because the old one is just not working very well any more! So what is going on? We have heard about the ending of cosmic cycles according to the Mayan calendar and other prophecies, but what is happening closer to home that can help us understand the erratic energies that are effecting us so acutely? Often when we are aware of the larger picture, it is easier not to take everything so personally. When we feel crazy or frazzled, we can always blame it on the planets! Let’s take a look at the three outer planets. Uranus, Neptune and Pluto take many years to move through a sign of the zodiac, slowly and powerfully shifting our consciousness and our ways of living and relating. Pluto is the planet of transformation—death and rebirth—breaking down what no longer works and then assisting in the regeneration process as we rebuild in a whole new way that is more in line with what is true, right and just. I Started Out as a Child by Marque Germain Kolack Like most of you, I started out as a child … and it’s been all down hill from there. You know how most babies are delivered by an obstetrician? Well I was delivered by a psychiatrist. So you could say I have been in therapy since the instant I was born. Actually, I think they did some in utero coaching with me so it has been since before I was even born, but that didn’t stop me though from being totally and completely insane! I came out screaming and who wouldn’t have. Emerging into a room filled with people wearing white outfits, masks and hoods on their heads, I thought it was a KKK meeting. And this is supposed to instill trust? It was like a bad Fellini movie. After nine months of three squares, a recliner and climate control, this cold, stark room scared the heck out of me so I screamed my bloody head off. The shrink didn’t know what to do so in panic called out to the nurse, “Administer five milligrams of valium.” So I turned to her and I said, “Make it ten. Got any Quaaludes? This is the 60s, right?” So I was off to a drug infested life that would last for decades! “Don’t cut the tube until we know the breast works, leave the flap, it’s only one syllable away from the other ‘C’ word, castration and no spanking!” Well, they met absolutely none of my demands so with a snip, a clip and a swat, I was born just another dysfunctional member of the human race. Being born adds new meaning to the phrase, “passing through the eye of a needle.” No wonder I had migraines for 30 years. When

I was born, my nose came out first. The shrink thought it was a foot so he shoved it back in. Talk about mixed messages. Mom is there trying to push out one way and the shrink is trying to shove me back in the other way. I’ve had a push-pull relationship with everyone I’ve ever loved in my life. My ex-wife used to say, “You can’t commit. What’s it gonna be, in or out?” Is that a trick question? To this day, just hearing those three words puts me into a panic attack. When I finally popped out the shrink took one look at me and slapped my mother! I took one look at the shrink and I slapped my mother. I was born on April 21, 22, 23, and part of the 24th. It was a long birth. The stretch marks were so long, they were on my father, who was next door in the pub ordering margaritas he couldn’t pay for. They say you pick your parents. I must have picked mine from a police line-up. I was the only kid I knew who had a birth certificate with an expiration date on it! In fact, Americans receive nearly 90 billion pieces of advertising mail every year, equaling 10 billion pounds of solid waste. From the environmental impact and cleanup costs to privacy concerns and the annoyance factor, unsolicited mail is a major concern. But for a growing number of cities, junk mail is rapidly becoming a thing of the past. Partnering with national non-profit Catalog Choice, communities like Seattle, Chicago, Berkeley and Kansas City are giving their citizens an easy way to opt out of unsolicited direct mail—easing the burden on local landfills and saving taxpayer dollars while putting consumers in control over their mailboxes. Since the program has launched, the numbers speak for themselves: • • •

Seattle has seen a 113% increase in opt-outs, saving 12,280 trees and 5.2 million pounds of greenhouse gas. Chicago is on track to save 8,243 trees and 3.5 million pounds of greenhouse gas. Marion County, Oregon has seen a 15% increase in opt-outs.

Meanwhile, Seattle has passed local legislation mandating yellow page publishers give consumers the option not to receive directories, with other communities like San Jose poised to follow suit. Join the rising trend of local governments, citizens and private companies coming together to make junk mail a distant memory and to give consumers an active say in what appears in their mailboxes.

BUILDING COMMUNITY

WHEN we lose our sense of community, we lose

our inner beauty and our perspective, which in turn, quiets the soul affecting the imbalance of our spirit and the spirit of our community. It is important to understand that community is important toward beginning the healing process. Our modern world distanced us from developing community. We no longer hold onto that sacred circle of connection. We used to problem-solve, fight, make-up, celebrate, grieve and heal within the circle. Although this concept is distant, it is not too far removed and the journey to healing this disconnect is not arduous. Connecting to community is in each one of us and nurtures our inner being. One way to create community is through expressive arts. Creation comes from the energy of our soul and through this energy we can heal through our creations. When we reveal this creation, we reveal our soul. In this moment, we become open to community. Expressive arts are rooted in this inner world. We connect to our ancestors’ wisdom and reach out through our art to connect with what our ancestors want from us. Expressive arts can be defined by music, dance, song, poetry, narratives, pottery and paintings. The list is as long as our creativity can take us. When we connect to our soul and create, we open a channel for all to see, hear, feel and touch. Our art evokes many emotions, but the process is always the same. It is one of truth, honesty, and trust. When we bare our soul through our expression, that is what we really are thinking, saying and feeling. And when our art is viewed, our inner world is revealed. We connect to community through nurturing this inner world. Jenenne R.
