WE ARE A

Unified Field by Rev. Cay Thompson, D.D.

Dr. Ernest Holmes, founder of the Science of Mind teaching, wrote: “After taking the fences down from around our individual plots we discover that there is only one field. We are all using the same field.” –Seminar Lectures, p. 30 What have you planted in your plot? How is your garden growing? Each of us has made choices as to what to plant and if we decide to take our fences down, we find each uses the same soil. The air, rain, sun and natural fertility are the same for all of us and yet there are different flowers or vegetables or plants growing in various gardens. This garden can be likened to what may be going on in your life experiences. Once the fence is taken down, do you see your neighbor differently or the same? Do you see more or less happiness or health or prosperity? Are you aware of the limitless cosmic field that awaits your recognizing its availability? You may choose to plant new seed-thoughts to sprout new results in your garden of life experiences. Becoming more and more aware that all life is ONE and I am connected to my brothers and sisters on the Spirit level frees me up from judgment of myself and others. Also, I am becoming more aware that life is GOOD, irrespective of the way my body appears, how the weather feels, what others think about me or how the economic situation looks personally or globally. I make wiser, more thoughtful, conscious choices, plant healthier seedthoughts and watch the new visible results appear. Rev. Cay Thompson, D.D. has been a Science of Mind (SOM) Practitioner for 47 years, a student of SOM for 51 years, a Religious Science Minister for 19 years, and a United Church of Religious Science (UCRS) Ecclesiastical Representative (Eastern/Mid-Western U.S.) from 1999-2002. She holds an Honorary Doctorate of Divinity. Please see ad for Golden Triangle Center for Spiritual Living this page.

From the Editor Our Divine Creative Impulse

by Purusha K. Radha I tweet on Twitter. I never thought I would say such a thing in 2010, but yes, I tweet. (There's a movement on Twitter composed of thousands of people who tweet positive and consciousness uplifting messages in 160 characters or less.) You can get retweeted (RT'd; re-quoted) by others when they like your particular message. When I post a message about music and the way it stirs our souls, I get RT'd a lot! Messages about the arts and creativity are also very popular and I see many RTs with those, too. It's interesting to see what really matters to people and through my unscientific surveys via my Twitter experience, I find over and over again that music and the arts are extremely important to people. Art in all forms is the sugar and sweetness of life. Without that sweetness to balance our trials, tests and challenges, there would be a great deal more despair on the planet. French sculptor and teacher Émile Antoine Bourdelle said, "The secret of art is love." The most beautiful art in whatever form comes from one's heart. In healing arts, the most effective 'healers' are the ones in their hearts. In the humility of the heart center, they know they are not healers but actually only assisting another to heal herself. They embrace the truth that they are vessels much like exquisitely crafted earthen jars allowing the divine healing energy to pour forth. In the language arts, writer's block comes from fear and an over-anxious mind. With a prayer and some grounding in the heart, the ego can be overridden, the block will be released and beauty in the written word flows. A gardener or landscaper who stops to allow himself to be a vessel for the expression of the soul within will be able to create the most magnificent of gardens, a tapestry of living color, outrageous fragrance and aesthetic harmony. Observe something beautiful and know its creator was in his heart. Encounter something chaotic and ugly and this is a sure sign someone was in her head when she created it.

Being anchored in the thinking ego mind generates fear, confusion, chaos, separation, stagnancy, anger and anxiety. Whatever we are feeling, whatever sphere in which we are anchored–the head or the heart–will be very evident in our creations. If we remember back to some of our earliest days as children, we recall that we were neverending fonts of creativity. We could make a game out of nothing and imagine a whole relationship with a motionless doll. As we grew older and became submersed in the school system and the confining, often very negatively reinforcing structures of our family lives, our innate soulular creativity became stifled bit by bit until, as adults, many of us feel we are not creative beings at all. This is so completely far from the truth. How could it be true when we are emanations of the Divine Creative Itself? Creativity begets creativity. If you feel you have lost that artistic or creative spark you once had, just choose one small thing and create it without judging the outcome. Then do another and soon you will find you're on a roll and your creative impulses are firing more and more consistently. You can get your creativity back. Don't let age or environment or circumstance be an excuse. The world needs even more love in the form of art and beauty (in the unique way that only you can contribute) than it already has. In the end, taking exceptional photographs, reciting poetry, grooving to a belly dance number or crafting a stained glass window are all love letters to the Divine. Heart-centered artistic expression is the soul's message that says, "Hello Beloved Creator, I love you so. Let me give back to you for your gifts to me have been boundless." We all have within us an urge to create. It's why we create not only obvious artistic works but less obvious works of art like projects and businesses that serve and change the world. If we stifle this creative impulse, we aren't fully living. It is in our very nature, in fact, we are compelled to fashion, design, create and issue forth what our soul is longing to express. The Divine speaks to the Divine in a most symbiotic relationship bursting with beauty, joy and LOVE. 484

Secrets For Living A High Velocity Life

Meditate to De-Stress by Anne Van Allen Spending time in prayer and meditation is a wonderful and peaceful way to start and end each day. You can start by just taking a few moments of your time and closing your eyes. Both will help you reduce the stress that you have internalized during your day. It’s a great way to get rid of the stress that weakens our immune systems and causes us to get sick.

you stress. Know that you are never alone! Start meditating today and you will begin to bring peace and tranquility to your life. You can find a wellness center near you to help you get started today. Anne Van Allen is owner of Tranquiliti Wellness Center in Windermere. She became a Pilates instructor after a congenital hip defect and auto accident created such severe hip pain she was forced to make a choice for holistic healing rather than surgery. Tranquiliti Wellness Center offers Pilates, Yoga and many classes to complement your holistic lifestyle. Please see ad this page.

Start by taking some deep breaths and getting in a comfortable sitting position. You can sit on the floor or in a chair. It is always best to sit up very tall and elongate your spine. This allows your breath to flow all the way through your body. As you begin, keep your eyes closed so you can concentrate on relaxing and quieting your mind. Then you can begin to visualize all the stress from your day leaving your body and mind. You can put on some soothing music to help you relax. It is a great way to clear your mind and just be in the moment. Meditating will often allow you to be still long enough to listen to your inner voice and find clarity in your life. It is a great idea to keep a journal nearby to write down thoughts that enter your mind. All you have to do is pray that you are able to let go of the things in your life that are causing

Shifting Energy:

CALLM

CENTERING FOR ALL MINDS. A NEW METHOD OF DOG TRAINING.

I

work with owners of animals who say they are having animal issues. Typically, it’s about a dog urinating inside the home, showing aggressive or compulsive behaviors or possession. I am not a dog trainer but use hypnosis instead to help the owners shift their energies to get the response they want from their dogs. I also teach animal communication classes. Being able to read information from animals comes in handy, but the other component necessary is knowing what that behavior means. I work with Todd Langston, a canine behavior expert who explains why the dog is doing what he does and how to address the situation. For many, the struggle with their dog is driven by something in their subconscious minds that happened in the past. You may be asking, “How can something that happened to me years ago

by Jo Maldonado influence my dog today?” Subconscious triggers or memories that hold energy formed a long time ago do surface in the present. For example, a woman is terrified that her dog is going to kill her cat (the dog seriously injured the cat over a year ago). I find out that when the woman was young, a dog attacked and killed a cat she was pushing in a stroller. The shock was deep. Part of this incident, fear-based, has remained with her and is being projected onto her animals today. Her present cat does not trust her to protect him. Her dog detects the fear, feeds on it and takes control. Using hypnosis, I help create an altered state of energy shift within the owner that translates directly to the animal. True, a portion of the dog’s behavior will have physical, genetic or programmed origins, an easy fix for a canine behavior expert. But remember that always, always, whatever the problem is with the animal, it is a reflection of some aspect of the human owner that has not been addressed. When you’re frustrated, confused, angry or upset your energy shifts, the chemical properties within you change. The dog picks this up immediately and responds, but once you shift your energy and enter a world of calm, emotionless presence, your dog picks this up. A new pattern begins. A new communication occurs. The leash shows it. There’s no tightness of the leash and no tightness of the person. You are calmer. The dog is calmer. You can give clearer signals. Your dog responds. Remember, always see your vet first to rule out any physical underlying situations. Then take a good look at the present situation of your life. You will find a mirror of your present life reflected in your animal. Guaranteed. Jo Maldonado is owner of Centers for Animal Therapies/CAT, is a certified hypnotist, animal communications instructor, shamanic animal healer and Reiki practitioner. Email Jo at jo@ centerforanimaltherapies.com or call (407)8691145. CAT is located at 16758 E. E. Williamson Road in Longwood. Please see ad this page.

Secrets For Living A High Velocity Life

ANIMAL ARTISTS:

by Colleen Gordon

CAN ANIMALS CREATE ART?

From the chirping of a bird’s morning song to the lace of a spiderweb, animals have created much of the beauty that surrounds us. But can they also be budding artists that paint on a canvas and produce actual artwork considered pleasing to humans? It would seem that from dolphins to elephants, there are many animals that can do just that, and they can even bring hundreds of dollars in donations for animal conservation with each unique animal artist painting. In Tampa, Big Cat Rescue, has been raising money for their sanctuary by allowing some of the rescued cats to create paintings. This is done by using children’s non-toxic fingerpaints that are dabbed on the canvas and then sprayed with Calvin Klein’s Obsession for Men. The scent is said to be like catnip to the big lions, cougars or tigers. The cats use their paws, nose and face to roll through the paints and express their talent. The paintings were auctioned off this past October as a part of their annual fundraiser.

Another interesting painter is the elephant. In Thailand, the Asian Elephant Art Conservation Project is teaching elephants to paint with a brush and selling the works to help pay for the costs of the sanctuary. Paya is a particularly interesting three year old male elephant that has mastered the art quickly and is even painting self-portraits! His slow methodical way of creating images is often accompanied by his dancing and smiling through the process. Like humans, Paya creates art out of pure pleasure. Another Florida artist is the dolphin. Marineland, located near St. Augustine, Florida has many interactive programs but one of the most unique is Dolphin Designs. This program allows the guest to chose two or three colors and hold up the canvas for the dolphin to paint. Once the dolphin artist has completed the work, the guest is allowed to take the painting home as a special memorable reminder of his collaboration with these graceful aquatic artists. Could your pet be a potential Picasso? If you don’t mind allowing your dog or cat to dabble in water-based, non-toxic paint, then you may consider finding out. Choosing two or three colors for him to use on a canvas, surrounded by plenty of newspaper, you may find that at the end of the session, you have a beautiful piece of abstract art to frame. At the very least, it could make the prestigious gallery of the front of your refrigerator! It would seem that in every animal, an artist is waiting to become discovered. THE ART OF HERBALISM; A JOURNEY WITH THE SPIRITS OF THE PLANTS

by Dawn Gates

W

hen I started a formal training program in herbalism, I was lucky enough to meet and study with Matthew Woods. Matthew is an avant-garde herbalist who uses unconventional methods and teaches about listening to the spirits of the plants as you learn about them. One of the things he would always say was that herbalism is 10% science and 90% art, because anyone could read a book, but only a few could master the technique. I tend to think of herbalism as 40% science and 60% art, but the basic sentiments apply. Anyone can read a book or even study with an herbalist, but it is a select few who become one with the plants and become the greatest herbalists. This can happen in many ways. Matthew became one with the plants through reading ancient texts and experimenting with their alchemical signatures. Susun Weed became one with the plants by doing journey work and listening to them talk to her, and David Hoffman became one with them by absorbing their chemical signatures. They are all different styles of herbalism, all different paths to becoming one with the plants, all different ways to master the art. As the years go by, we realize that we never perfect our craft. There is always something to learn, always someone new you

16

want to learn from, always a new plant you want to integrate. I began studying herbalism by taking a journey with one plant a month. I would eat it, make tea with it, make medicine with it, journey with its spirit, communicate with it and even sleep with it. I wanted to become one with the plant. This method, although lengthy, has given me many rewards. It helps me understand the relationships between the families of plants and how all of us are spiritual beings. Years later, I have now done this with many plants and I have been gifted with understanding their energies. I will never finish this journey with the plants. They have become my spiritual allies and guides. I plan to grow with them as they teach me, and perhaps someday I, too, will become a master in the art of herbalism. COMMUNICATE WITH YOUR PLANTS

IT’S AN ART There is a gardening secret so subtle most of us overlook it. It’s a secret that every successful gardener or herbalist credits for their success. The secret is that each of us has a green thumb–we just haven’t learned to tune in to it yet. Those of you who struggle in your garden may be reading this article cross-eyed. Me? A green thumb? Because I haven’t tuned in to my thumb? No. Because you haven’t yet learned to speak the language of the plants. Real communication with plants is not only possible, it was the most important part of the practice for our ancestors who walked the Medicine Way. True, trial and error was a valuable tool to discern which plants were useful for which medicines, but the deepest form of plant knowledge took hold when our ancestors sat down in their gardens and listened to the plants. Plants rarely shout out in English (though spend a day in my garden and you may just catch them in the act). While it’s true that plants don’t have vocal cords or mouths to form words, they do have powerful ways of communicating. Our physical forms communicate a lot–through body language, or in the case of the plants communication of physical needs like more water or more nutrients, but it is in the realm of spirit where plant communication becomes the most precise. The first step to learning the language of plants is to put the books down. As beginning gardeners, we are often motivated to scour through every book by every expert until we, too, become experts at growing. Instead, pay attention to your plants. You know, look at them. Observe them.

The Art of Gardening There are many aspects to the art of gardening. The obvious ones involve color, texture, size, shape, and other aspects of art that usually come to mind. These are all important in the design of a garden or landscape as they affect your perception and how you feel in that space. The art of gardening also includes the actual techniques and skills that are required to establish and maintain a garden. Some, like transplanting, require a bit of horticultural knowledge to do well. Even weeding is easier if you know the kind of root system and other botanical aspects of the weeds, but all the horticultural knowledge in the world will not make you a great gardener if you don’t have the right attitude. Yes, your state of mind and intention have a dramatic effect on the results of your actions. Most gardeners are very mellow people. Plants react well to someone who is laid-back and calm. Plants have the ability to sense their environment. That includes the energy emitted by people around them. Scientists have connected plants to what could compare to a botanical EEG machine and measured their energy readings. Several plants in a row were connected

20

to this device and people were directed to do various activities around them. Then a man walked up to one of the plants and violently yanked it out of the pot and all of the plants reacted. After the plants calmed down, several people walked by them calmly with no measurable change in the readings, but when the man who yanked the plant from the pot walked by, all of the plants reacted as they did when the violent action originally occurred. They remembered this man’s energy and somehow knew he was the one who killed their companion. If you want to have a happy garden, then you must be gentle and kind when working in that garden. When pruning, let the plant know what you are doing and why. When you pick vegetables, thank the plant for producing food for your nourishment, ask permission and do it gently. When transplanting, be gentle with the plant and encourage it to grow well in its new home. Even when weeding, pull the weed gently and calmly, thanking it for giving its life for the good of the garden and honor its existence. This also applies to the soil. Not only is the soil an aspect of Mother Earth, it contains millions of micro- and macro-

Letting the plants and your garden as a whole know what you are doing and why will have a dramatically beneficial effect on their growth and well-being. So be nice to your garden and it will grow better for your efforts. Hang out in it and send it love and encouragement. It will respond in kind, many times over. "Communicate" cont. from page 18 Become aware. The second step is listening. This is a tough one for many of us. We are an impatient culture, and listening to plants requires us to step outside our busy lives for more than five minutes to truly be present with the plants. Move your meditation outdoors and listen. What comes to you may not immediately present itself as plant communication, but observe closely. You may not hear the basil introduce itself as Ocimum basilicum, but you may think a thought, feel an emotion, or even be inspired to write a song or poem that comes from an inspired source. That’s plant communication. Now that you’re listening, start paying attention beyond the confines of your garden. The Secret Life of Plants by Peter Tompkins and Christopher Bird, profiles plant communication taking place on cross-continent borders/across continent borders. So start by paying attention in your dreamworld and in your yoga practice. The more attention you give, the more you engage the plants and the more willingly they respond. BUFFET FREEDOM H by Oral Nussbaum

ave you ever asked yourself a question and been completely surprised by the answer? I have. “How good is life?” I asked myself one rainy Thursday evening. The answer came, as it usually does, through me, yet for me. “How good do you want it to be?” At first, I chuckled at the rhetorical nature of that answer, too amused to care that it also broke my cardinal rule of not answering a question with a question. To me, it was like asking how much money you want, or how good sex should feel. My sarcastic indignation was halted, though, by the follow-up query. “How good do you deserve it to be?” Asked that way, as hard as it was to admit, my honest answer was, “Not too good.” I also saw, for the first time, that answer was just a concept. A belief I had due to the virtuous nature of struggle and poverty that were served as side dishes to the guilt/fear entrée in my evangelical youth, and the primary reason for my years of emotional indigestion. I saw clearly in that moment how that life-view was affecting everything I did and felt, especially about myself. Why, I wondered, do I continue to believe this way? Is it somehow possible to change the diet of low self-esteem I had been served by well-meaning but ill-skilled adults? Do I actually have a choice? I believe I do. The pious humility that gave my parents justification for their misery did not need to be my reality. So I chose to abandon those limiting, self-degrading notions and to adopt their opposites as my new truth. I cooked a new meal filled with “I Like Myself Casseroles” and “Be Kind to Yourself Pies.” The freedom, joy, and ease of being in this world that followed that shift have been amazing. I no longer stare at the sink when I brush my teeth each morning. Instead, I look in the mirror at my bright blue eyes and remind myself: Life is as good as I allow it to be, and by virtue of my spiritual pedigree alone, I deserve it to be nothing less than spectacular! Hasty Resolutions by Ramah Wagner, DC • Contributing Health Editor

“Half-hearted and premature resolution is no resolution at all, and is shattered at the first difficulty. A man should be slow to form a resolution. He should searchingly examine his position and take into consideration every circumstance and difficulty with his decision, and should be fully prepared to meet them… Hasty resolutions are futile.” --James Allen The above quote stopped me in my tracks a few days ago and I began to see its truth. We often go into the New Year with hasty resolutions and it’s easy to make brazen statements that are unfounded. I have worked diligently on keeping my word and being in integrity. One night years ago, I was celebrating passing a difficult final examination. My fellow graduate students were in a flurry of conversation about the upcoming half-marathon they were running. They were all athletic. I am not at all. Suddenly the conversation focused on me with a question, “Ramah, will you run it with us?” I halfheartedly replied, “Sure. Why not?” The next day I reviewed my word. I was not a marathon runner, but I realized that if I didn’t start honoring my word in small and large ways, I never would. So I began. It started with a resolution which was serious and well thought out. I plotted how many months I had till the “Big Race.” I talked to different athletes, got some cute exercise outfits, bought food for a sports junkie and I made my resolution. The day of the race I met up with my six-foot tall cousin. Her long soccer legs were conditioned, next to my five-foot-three stubs. She advised me to start in the back with the walkers. I did. She went up to the front. The race began. I paced myself. As I ran through the hills of eastern Iowa, I found out a lot about my resolution. Some of the curves were really tough. I hopped around the walkers in an agile way. The hills seemed difficult, but I reminded myself of my word. Near the end of the run I felt my chest burning but focused on the cheers from the people that lined the street. As my short legs began to feel less than fleet-footed I came over the last hill to the finish where I clocked in just behind my long-

legged cousin! I thought, “Well, look at that!” I felt a huge rush of accomplishment that made me proud of who I am, a spike in self-esteem knowing I could run a marathon! My name was in the newspaper the next day with the few who finished well. I’d discovered the greatness of a worthy resolution. Nothing great can ever be done without thinking it through and then overcoming the obstacles with a “CAN DO” attitude. Serious resolutions are powerful. We might ask ourselves how many of our New Year’s resolutions were hasty ones. If they were done without a firm resolve to make them happen, then this is a great opportunity. What are you willing to resolve to change? It is by your word and resolution that you change your circumstances and life. You may be surprised, like I am, at how great it feels to keep your word to yourself and others. I’m a six year breast cancer survivor who did the unthinkable: I went outside the norm of traditional surgery, radiation, chemotherapy and other drug therapy to embark upon a journey that’s changed my life. Hopefully my story will encourage and inspire you to investigate alternative options before making your final choice of treatments. I was diagnosed with infiltrating duct carcinoma in January 2005. I had a lumpectomy in my left breast which removed a 1.2 cm tumor with unclear margins. The doctors wanted to perform additional surgery to remove another tissue sample and some lymph nodes to see how far the cancer had spread. After doing some research on the importance of your lymph system and measuring the size of the tissue samples already taken, I refused additional surgery. After my own investigation of traditional treatments, I judged them to be invasive and couldn’t imagine going through with any of them. I found the courage to research everything about this particular type of breast cancer, including asking for copies of test results from everyone who touched my body or took pictures of it, including the original diagnosing biopsy report. I read dozens of books on the effects of drugs, chemotherapy and radiation, both positive and negative, and books on ways to overcome cancer with diet, vitamin and mineral supplements, detoxification and destressing my lifestyle. Eventually I was beginning to see a path. I spent many sleepless nights praying for help in making a choice that would restore my health and one night I finally received the answer. In my conscious mind I saw the picture of a big frown on a yellow smiley face. At the time I saw this frowning smiley I was contemplating the effects of chemotherapy. I decided to embark upon an alternative approach that my doctors would not condone. I researched a number of different health support facilities and decided to attend a lodge in Colorado Springs called HealthQuarters where I learned about why they believe our bodies revolt in the form of cancers and other dis-eases. That’s where I learned the value of eating an 80% organic raw fruit and vegetable diet and how it would nourish the body back into a healthy state. Raw fruits and vegetables are living, and contain enzymes, minerals and vitamins our bodies recognize, digest and assimilate to keep our immune system strong. That was the start of an unbelievable journey and it’s become a passion to share my story of healing and to encourage everyone to eat a generous amount of organic raw fruits and vegetables each day. I obtained a state of health I could have previously only dreamed about. I don’t take any prescription meds, over-the-counter drugs, and haven’t had so much as a cold or the flu in almost six years because of the strength of my immune system. I attribute this strength in great measure to the 80% organic raw fruit and vegetable diet I consume each day. For more information, contact Linda Maffia at maffia8@gmail.com.

Dealing with Food Addictions Excerpted from the book Raw Food for Real People ©2010 by Rod Rotondi. Printed with permission from New World Library. Those of us who have grown up on a contemporary Western diet have food addictions galore. I know I do. Fortunately, my three-year-old daughter does not. She has never eaten foods like refined flours and sugars, highly processed foods, meats, or dairy, all of which create negative addictions. We are helping our daughter create a very healthy and positive relationship with food. But most of us were brought up with a less-than-optimal diet and a relationship to foods that includes an emotional attachment to eating them. We often have deep-seated and mostly unconscious feelings of giving ourselves a treat when we choose to eat many foods that we now know are far from optimal. We can help the next generation by giving them a healthier start. But for the vast majority of us, we must begin by recognizing that we ourselves are food addicts —and not getting down on ourselves because of it! It simply is what it is, and now it is up to us to decide what to do about it. Many people who learn about the incredible benefits of raw and living foods try to use willpower to overcome their food addictions. While this will work for a while, usually willpower alone doesn’t work in the long run. Instead, it’s best to take the opportunity to become aware of our beliefs and attitudes about food, educate ourselves, and be loving and gentle with ourselves as we evolve toward a healthier relationship with food. I will give you an example. There have been times I have really felt like having a piece of traditional baked pizza. This is not terribly surprising considering the fact that I grew up in an Italian American

family, that my dad makes an incredible pizza, and that he also taught me how to make one at a young age. Consequently I have had an emotional attachment to pizza. So how do I handle the hankering? When I first feel the desire for a slice, I usually think back to when I was giving up smoking many years ago. The trick was not to ask myself “Do I want to smoke a cigarette?” but to ask “Do I want to live life as a smoker?” A single cigarette is not going to significantly harm me. However, living life as a smoker would seriously compromise my health, as well as having many other negative effects on my life. And life as a smoker always begins with the next cigarette. So, with food addictions I try to do the same thing, changing “Do I want to eat a piece of pizza?” to “Do I want to live life as a pizza eater?” While asking the second question, I envision a very round version of me eating pizza (as I mentioned, my last name, Rotondi, means “the round ones” in Italian). I really don’t want to be round. I like being slim, light, and energized. So this thought often helps me get past the pizza hankering.

However, sometimes the hankering comes back — again and again. What to do? Use willpower to suppress my desire for pizza? If a desire for a specific food comes up repeatedly, I will go out and eat a small portion of that food. However, I will do it consciously. I will tune in to how my body feels before I eat the pizza and then focus on how the pizza smells, looks, and tastes. I will also be conscious of how I feel five minutes after I eat it, and thirty minutes, and an hour later. Usually what happens is that the first bite is okay but mildly unsatisfying. The second bite is really not a treat at all, and I realize that what I am eating tastes a bit like cardboard (keep in mind that when you eat a raw-food diet for any length of time, your taste buds change and cooked foods don’t taste the same anymore). Then after five minutes I feel a heaviness in my stomach. After half an hour, I feel lethargic and already wish I hadn’t eaten the pizza. The point is that if we try to suppress all our cravings, in the end we get wound so tight that the spring may break and we might run out and eat three large pepperoni pizzas with extra cheese! It’s better to get out of judgment mode and work on evolving our relationship with food. The more we exercise our body consciousness and really listen to our bodies, the more we will replace old food habits, thought patterns, and addictions. By the way, if you have any other addictions in your life, moving to a raw-food diet can often help in kicking them as well. Once we can control the food we put in our mouths, everything else becomes easier. Rod Rotondi is the author of Raw Food for Real People. Artistic WHAT

by Julie Norris • Contributing Community Editor

ARTISTIC L A N G U A G E DO YOU SPEAK?

This is an actual conversation I once had with a co-worker during my college years: ME: “What’s your major?” CO-WORKER: “Fine Art with a focus in ceramics.”

ME: (Appalled) “Well, that’s fine for a hobby, but you can’t be an artist for a living!” Sigh. I was a naïve business major at the time, fully programmed by my years of living in the artless suburbs, to aspire to climbing the corporate ladder of a huge firm. Luckily I was an artist, although I did not really call it that at the time. These talents were often reduced down to the skill set section on my resume. Now I aim for my life to be a work of art, to breathe beauty and wonder into every aspect of my creation. I’ve dabbled in graphic design, writing, sewing, photography, painting, gardening and am fully immersed in mothering, cooking, event planning, and oh yes, the fine art of owning and running my own business, which is one of my greatest works of art. What artistic language do you speak? Several folks in our community share their mode of expression with us below. Think about your own unique form of artistic expression. How can you bring that into other areas of your life?

“Currently I express my art through guitar, oil-painting, photography, videography. I believe that we all have a creative voice but somewhere along the line we are told to grow up and we start to ignore it. I realize now, the reason my teenage years were my darkest and most turbulent was because I silenced this creative voice. I didn’t know any better. I just did what my parents and society expected of me. It wasn’t until college that I found my creative voice again. I learned to play the guitar and started taking photography, drawing and any other art classes I could take. Today, I find myself more fascinated with the creative process then I do the final product. It is the creative process that promotes healthy, independent, free-thinking minds, minds that explore possibilities instead of focusing on negativity.” --Michael Kilayko “I tie-dye to express my creative artistic energy. My mom taught me how to tie-dye. Can you tell she was a hippie? I feel like I am channeling all the women of the 60s and 70s, women that made a difference. Tie-dying is a lot like my own personality. It’s random and a bit all over the place, but it was always ‘be bright and shiny and make people smile.’” --Kelly Graham “Crystal singing bowls, bass guitar and keyboards, vocals with a four octave range, watercolor paintings and illustrations, handcolored black and white photography. I found my voice through life’s joy and pain and several great teachers who showed me how to translate that to 3D objects and sound healing.” --Rue W. Lam

c Langua “When I was younger, I drew and painted. As an adolescent, I discovered photography. I did photography (analogue/film) until 1997. The written word manifested as a viable form of expression ca. 1984 (I was 17 or 18). Amusingly, I still write. I have contemplated returning to photography though it’s not the same as it was.” --Howard James Dudy

“When I draw or paint I get many comments, not always nice but I tell them the characteristics in this piece are unique and individual to itself just like me, some may see as flaws, some may see as odd, some as beauty. I see them as me and I wish I had the nerve when I was growing up to say the same to the bullies and mean girls and boys who thought my characteristics not appealing to them. My artwork is growth and the ability to draw it as I see it and what I see from myself.” --Carla Guinta “I use my hands to create my art and express myself in a way I’m not able to with words. Many times throughout the day, week, etc. I’m moved to tears either by the beauty of the moment or reality of life. While some people are able to translate that to another artistic expression, I feel connecting with another person in healing bodywork allows me to go to another realm that is timeless and beyond this human life. I hope some of that comes through to the recipient and the healing is authentic, transformative living art.” --Pamela Rogers Guldi “I speak the language of poetry and when I was twelve years old I found my voice. Life was rough at the time and I needed an escape, so I began to write. I don’t know how it happened but the words just started to flow and rhyme for me. It’s been my love ever since.” --LadyVaness Lewis “The art of playing. I started singing outside, inspired by my dog-brothers and sisters, the plants, the air, the sun, my family. I would make up songs about all those things, praise them and sing for their wellbeing. I would sit on my

swings and imagine my neighbors would hear me laugh, and feel the joy emanating from my heart on the glory of these things. I would lay in the trees and caress the branches, thank them for growing and inviting me to hang from them, giving me their fruits. I would dance and pinch the blades of grass, run with my dogs, run with my brother, play. I would play with my food. I would talk to it, tell it how beautiful it was and how good it felt to taste it. I still try to play with everything in this way. Playing is art. It is finding your union with the grace of life, and praising it fully. It is a sensual experience, one that encompasses your whole being when you are present with the moment. I want to play in everything I do. I want to be present so I may play and invite others the way I feel the universe invites me.” --Alex Halenda “The language of photography. In the last five years, I realized I had spent my whole life being too analytical, and looked for a medium to express my artistic side. I wanted to nurture and grow as an artist and found m a n y reasons to fall in love with this art. It takes me to beautiful places as I capture moments in time, and it allows both myself and others to see things that are fleeting and worth seeing. I have grown from capturing simple images to developing an eye for artistic compositions, colors and subjects. I see the world much differently now with an eye for the beautiful, the striking and the unique. It has taught me to look around and enjoy this world with all the curiosity of a child, something I had lost along the path of my life. It has forever taught me that beauty is all around us if we simply look for it.” --Stan Lyzak “I found my voice when I experienced theater for the first time. It was very freeing and I want to continue in it. I found things in myself I didn’t even know I was capable of or brave enough to do or try. A very beautiful experience.” --Amy Strickhouser Julie Norris is co-proprietor of Dandelion Communitea Cafe, co-founder of the Progressive Local Alliance for Community Enrichment (PLACE) and serves on the board of Slow Food Orlando. MOON ASTROLOGY

January - February 2011

by

Raven Moondance

Evolution is the law of Life. Number is the law of the Universe. Unity is the law of God. --Pythagoras

good…and then listen. This time of inner work is essential for your serenity and growth. AFFIRMATION: I AM totally supported, loved and guided in all that I do and in all that I AM.

In numerology, 2010 was a “3” year (2+0+1+0=3) filled with a tremendous amount of shifts, changes and chaos that served to open doors to unlimited opportunity for creativity and self-expression. So much chaotic energy can be unsettling and a bit scary but offers so much possibility! With each quaking of the earth or shattering of some aspect of reality, take a deep breath or two and center yourself, then step forward. We are being called upon to more consciously use our thoughts, imaginations and focus to create a new, life-affirming reality for ourselves and our planet.

TAURUS (April 20-May 20) Step more fully into your true essence.

With 2011, we move into a “4” year (2+0+1+1=4). This is a time to implement needed changes in order to create a stable foundation in all areas of our life, our nation and the world. “Four is the number of matter. Quartets tend to be extremely solid and stable, and concerned with immutable constructions such as the four seasons, the four elements, the four main points of the compass. The cube, with its four-sided base, top and sides, represents both stability and rigidity in magical geometry and architecture.” (Numerology by David V. Barrett, p.19) According to Damian Sharp (Simple Numerology), the challenge of number 4 is “to overcome laziness, inflexibility, lack of imagination and fear of change. It cautions against imposing too many restrictions upon both oneself and others. It is also a challenge to find the means to lay a solid foundation and find stability and security in life and urges logical planning of goals and finances to ensure success.” (p.113)

GEMINI

As the structures around us realign, let us step into 2011 ready to rebuild, to let go where necessary, to flow with the energies of each day and each moment and to passionately utilize our imaginations and our hearts to create a New Earth. On January 4, with the New Moon Solar Eclipse in Capricorn, envision a new reality of love, joy and Oneness taking root in our world one heartbeat at a time. February 3 is the Chinese New Year, initiating the Year of the Rabbit. As the fourth animal in the Chinese Zodiac, Rabbit brings the energy of practicality, organization, diplomacy and opportunities to move through our fears. Feel grateful for all your experiences—the good, the uncomfortable, the indifferent. See them as stepping stones to creating a stronger, more confident sense of who you are. Don’t look back. The past is behind you and complete! What do you want to see manifest in your life? Focus on it without reservation or doubt. Breathe through any hesitation and go for it! AFFIRMATION: I release the past and move forward with a grateful heart. I totally trust that I AM guided and supported in all that I do. (May 21-June 20) Give yourself the time and space to integrate the experiences of the past few months. Think upon the insights you have gained about yourself. Expect greater clarity as each day passes. You may come to a deeper understanding of any challenges you have been encountering and perhaps even begin to see them from a broader perspective. Remember to breathe and to consider any adversity as an opportunity to grow more fully into your true self. You are doing a great job negotiating some very unpredictable energies. Congratulate yourself! AFFIRMATION: As I integrate new ideas, concepts and beliefs into my being, my sense of confidence and empowerment grows stronger with each new day. I AM blessed and I AM grateful.

CANCER

(June 21-July 22) What has been on your mind or prominently right in front of you lately? Contemplate what needs to be let go of, perhaps a belief, mind-set or expectation in order for you to move forward in greater alignment with who you are today. It is time to let go of what no longer works for you and whatever causes you stress. It is not about blaming others or the situation. Take responsibility within and let go so that you can make those needed changes. Remember, it always comes back to what is going on in your mind. Empower yourself by letting go and moving more fully into your true self and the life you desire. AFFIRMATION: As I release what no longer serves me, I feel my confidence, sense of empowerment and inner guidance strengthen with each new day. I AM truly blessed.

LEO (July 23-Aug.22) Where are your thoughts going lately? Observe,

access and break through any illusions or expectations you may be holding onto that may be unrealistic or limiting. As you shift your thinking, be open to new ideas and possibilities. You don’t have to act on them right away. Instead, take note and allow your heart to feel the various options. Trust that in time you will be guided as to where to place your focus. Right now is a time for you to observe, examine, contemplate and imagine, but not necessarily to act unless you are guided from deep within. AFFIRMATION: As I release what no longer serves me, new ideas and opportunities are revealed to me. Greater clarity comes with each passing day. One day at a time I step forward into a place of greater alignment and balance.

VIRGO (Aug.23-Sept.22) Feel good about the opportunities unfolding

before you and about the insights that are coming to you. Affirm your confidence in your inner knowingness. Allow that confidence to guide you through any doubts or challenges that may arise. Remember that all is indeed in Divine Order and occurs when the time is right. Breathe, go with the flow and trust that all is exactly as it should be in every moment, and that you are so very supported and loved! AFFIRMATION: As I breathe and flow with each day and each moment, life unfolds before me even better than I could ever have imagined. I AM grateful!

LIBRA (Sept.23- Oct.22) Maintain your focus on your goals and desires,

but also allow room for refinement and making changes as you are guided. Breathe, take care of yourself and work through any concerns or

challenges one moment at a time. During the time of Aquarius (Jan.20Feb.18) you will begin to feel more aligned and balanced. Notice that insights and awareness come more easily. The key during this timing is to tune into your needs and into your inner guidance. Totally trust that you are being guided from deep within your being. AFFIRMATION: From my experiences I gather the insights, knowledge and awareness that allow me to step forward into a place of confidence, harmony and joy! I AM blessed!

SCORPIO (Oct.23-Nov.21) Take advantage of opportunities to expand

and strengthen your connections with like-minded people for mutual support, validation and also enjoyment. Network wherever you can. Feel the love and support of others as you offer yours in return. Build community wherever you go. In these ever-shifting times our connections are the bread that will sustain and nurture our bodies, minds and spirits. AFFIRMATION: As I expand my connections with others both far and near, I deepen my sense of interconnection with nature, the Earth and the Universe. I AM a part of the Oneness of all life!

SAGITTARIUS

(Nov.22-Dec.21) Since your birthday, you have probably been re-evaluating some aspects of your life as you prepare to set a foundation for your year ahead. Tap into your inner wisdom for guidance and continue to cultivate your trust in your inner knowingness. Shifts and changes in our world and in our sense of reality are occurring quickly. The most reliable guide we have is our intuition, our inner wisdom. When we think too much or try to figure it out, we can drive ourselves crazy! Keep it simple and trust what you hear coming from deep within. Ask yourself, “How does this feel?” If it feels good, then go for it. If not so good, then let it go! AFFIRMATION: When I open my heart and listen, I am guided from the very depths of my being.

CAPRICORN (Dec.22-Jan.19) As you end one year and begin a new

one with your birthday, try not to get bogged down in too many details. Instead, observe your life and what is occurring around you from the broader perspective. This is a time to begin anew, to set a solid foundation for what you wish to see manifest as the year unfolds. Looking at the larger picture, what are your dreams, goals, desires? What needs to be shifted, changed, released or acted upon in order to attain them? Your thoughts and actions today will serve to create what unfolds for you. Observe your thoughts to make sure they are supporting where you wish to see your life flow. AFFIRMATION: I totally trust that as I create my vision of a joyous life, the details are falling into place one day at a time.

AQUARIUS (Jan.20-Feb.18) As you prepare to complete the year and

begin a new one with your birthday, take some time to contemplate any challenges or stresses that are surfacing for you right now. Clean out, let go and release whatever is no longer working for you, from perceptions to possessions, from expectations to limiting beliefs. If it is in your awareness, it needs to be looked at, examined, evaluated and perhaps shifted or released. Let go with gratitude, acknowledge that it served its purpose, but now it is time to move forward. Be grateful for all your experiences, the good as well as the difficult, trusting that we often need challenges to push us to grow. Feel good about how far you have come over the past year. AFFIRMATION: I confidently step forward releasing the old, stepping into a new year filled with unlimited possibilities and boundless joy.

PISCES (Feb.19-March 19) Take a few long, deep breaths. What do you

need to do right now to renew yourself—get a massage, go for a walk in nature, soak in a relaxing aromatherapy bath? Life has been hectic and somewhat stressful lately. It’s time for a break in your routine to relax, renew and rejuvenate yourself. Giving yourself the gift of renewal now will go a long way toward reducing your stress level and creating a deep sense of inner peace. AFFIRMATION: My body, mind and spirit are strengthened and balanced when I nurture and take care of myself. Only then can I truly be in loving service to others. In

the last two issues of Velocity Magazine, I have explained in general terms how Protandim slows the aging process. It does, in fact, do much more than totally eliminate age induced oxidative stress. The patented combination of natural, time tested ingredients is a Nrf2 activator and this tells the “survival genes” to upregulate. (An increase of a cellular component is called upregulation.) There are over 400 genes that are involved that produce good enzymes and over 200 genes that are told to downregulate bad enzymes. (Downregulation is the process by which a cell decreases the quantity of a cellular component, such as RNA or protein, in response to an external variable.) This is a fantastic claim. Here is how to find the peer to peer scientific studies and see what the independent studies are saying about the revolutionary product known as Protandim. Visit http://pubmed.gov. Type ‘oxidative stress’ in the search box and note that over 81,000 studies come up. All state that oxidative stress is a factor in aging and many diseases. Now type Protandim in the search box and read any or all of the six important studies conducted on the product. They are hard to read if you are not medically trained but the abstract and conclusion paragraphs are close to plain English. More ongoing studies from more than 20 universities and medical centers are on the way. Particularly informative are the two studies from Louisiana State University on skin cancer and the Virginia Commonwealth University on heart function. A compelling ABC Primetime video can also be viewed at http://mylifevantage. com/maxpower. Interestingly, neither my cardiologist nor dermatologist mentioned these studies to me when I was being treated. Protandim is not FDA approved but I would have liked a brief mention of these studies from my doctors so I could have checked out the information for myself. You really must be your own advocate and this is why I want you to do the research for yourselves and make your own health decisions. Secrets For Living A High Velocity Life

As pure consciousness, we are already Free. It is our mind that is not. Since hypnotherapy transforms the subconscious mind, it can help us to align the mind with Love very quickly. The only way to Love is through the subconscious and the only way through the subconscious is with Forgiveness. Therefore, since hypnotherapy helps to align the mind with Love, hypnotherapy is the movement toward Forgiveness.

THE ART OF HEALING : FREE YOUR MIND by Joshua Vlahos, CHt We are spiritual beings having human experiences, not human beings having spiritual experiences. I know this is a bold statement. Some of us scoff and say, “Yeah, okay buddy,” or think, “This guy’s had one too many paint chips in his past.” Many of us don’t believe it and if we do, we don’t really understand the obviousness of it. Our nature as pure consciousness, as a spiritual being, is right in front of us.

Hypnotherapy for healing is relatively straightforward. Clear the subconscious of false beliefs and we’re left face-to-face with the Truth of who we really are. The clearing away of these false beliefs can take time and everyone is different, however hypnotherapy can be an incredibly fast way of doing it. Many of us try to meditate but can’t because of all this “stuff” holding us back, and even if we’re successful in meditation and escape reality we always find that eventually it is the human experience and all the negative beliefs and emotions around it that must be dealt with to truly be free. Joshua Vlahos is a professional Clinical Hypnotherapist and a member of the American Council of Hypnotist Examiners. He is also a business associate of the Florida Institute of Hypnotherapy where he has his private practice. For more information visit www.spiritofhypnosis.com or email joshua@tfioh.com or call (352)443-0007.

Here is a brief exercise: Close your eyes and notice your body. Notice that you can observe your body, the way your hands feel, your breathing, your feet on the ground. The simple obviousness is that there is a “you” observing your body. Next, do the same with your emotions. Notice the emotions in your body. Maybe you feel happy or sad, angry or calm, anxious or peaceful. The result is the same. There is a “you” observing your emotions. Next, do the same with your mind. Notice the thoughts in your mind. Maybe you’re thinking of the game on tonight or what to cook for dinner. The result is the same. There is a “you” observing your mind. You ARE that “you.” The simple truth is, we are pure consciousness. We are not our body, emotions or mind. The obviousness of it is so near to us that it seems foreign! This is why the mystics say “Alas! Reality! How did I ever miss it?” This consciousness has a quality to it. It is Love. We are pure Love and we are nothing but Goodness at our core. We are everything that we’ve ever wanted and most of us don’t even know it. The problem is that our minds are simply aligned with that which is not true. Our mind tells us that we’re a body, that we’re bad, unlovable, weak, pathetic, vulnerable and evil, and will fight to protect it. Rock ’n’ Roll

HOW SAVED MY SOUL

(And Can Save Yours, Too)

“Wealthy the spirit that knows its own flight Stealthy the hunter who slays his own fright Blessed the traveler who journeys the length of the light.”--Dan Fogelberg, “Nexus” I remember as if it were yesterday. My brother, sister, cousins, and I were all brought into my uncle’s bedroom. The door was shut, and our once jovial uncle showed us his newly transformed persona. He recently had become “born-again” and his new mission was to save all of our souls from the evils of rock ’n’ roll. This coming from a man who, literally the week before, was driving us around in his Barracuda convertible blasting Beach Boys’ songs. We all listened to him intently and I am sure all were wondering the same thing, “Who is this man?” After his sermon on the evils of the devil’s music, I did what any teenager would do. I jumped in headfirst! I couldn’t buy records fast enough, and to my own amazement I couldn’t believe what I

by Christopher Laurence Souders

ended up finding: GOD! Yes that’s right, God. While most people would focus on the cliché themes of sex and drugs often associated with the music scene, I found a different spotlight. Instead of the dark side of music, I was drawn to its beauty. Much to my surprise I found the splendor of the lyrics. The written words to many of the songs were some of the most inspiring poetry one could find. The first thing I did when I got a new record was to read the lyrics. I hungered for the songs that addressed our spiritual condition. Today’s songwriters are the poets of our time. They are the wordsmiths of the modern world. They are, indeed, the wise ones who speak the language of the soul. The inspirational prose of certain rock’n’ roll songs saved my soul, and as I promised, can save yours, too. There is a certain inalienable power to music. I think it is the one art form that everyone enjoys. We all have our different style of music that we prefer, but for the most part I have never met anyone who didn’t enjoy some form of music. Music has the power to lift your spirit when you’re down … it only takes one song. You know what I mean. Just about everyone has one song that, no matter how down they are feeling, all they need to hear are the opening chords and their spirit is lifted. So if you haven’t yet found your song, there is no better time than the present. What have you got to lose but your own salvation? Redemption is only a few drumbeats away. In the words of John Lennon,

“Nothing you can make that can’t be made. No one you can save that can’t be saved. Nothing you can do but you can learn how to be you in time. It’s easy. All you need is love.” Born and raised in Muncie, Indiana, Christopher Laurence Souders now resides in Longwood, Florida. Chris is currently a teacher of seventh grade Social Studies, in addition to sacred events lecturer and writer. Since the age of 11, Chris has been fascinated with the spiritual and metaphysical worlds. He has studied everything from Abraham to Zoroaster. PREPARING FOR CHANGE A NEW SPIRITUALITY

My path of service is preparing the minds, hearts, and souls of humanity for the Planetary Initiation of 2012 that will abruptly end the present order of things and bring about profound changes in consciousness and the spirituality of mankind. The means will come through Earth Changes and raising the vibration of the planet. This cannot happen without widespread pain and suffering, particularly for those who are unprepared (both physically and spiritually). The unprepared will experience emotional trauma and shock as everything they know and have identified with all their lives is destroyed before their eyes. Added to this will be the disillusionment and despair when the promised rewards fail to manifest as expected. Today, many prophets of the New Age promise painless growth and sublime happenings in 2012 without labor, striving, struggle, discomfort, or sacrifice on our part. Beware of messengers who guarantee “something for nothing,” spiritual development without exertion, enlightenment without endeavor, higher or expanded consciousness achieved without strenuous effort, or inflated rewards without first earning them. New Age teachings have distorted the principles of co-creation and manifestation by implying that we as human personalities can produce outcomes and results to our liking, indifferent to the higher will of our own souls or of God. The Master Teachers instruct us that the soul, being group conscious, has no individual ambitions or individual interests, and is not at all concerned with the comfort, desires, or aims of the personality (human vehicle) through which it is incarnated on the physical plane. The Master Kuthumi has stated about the physical expression (Earth changes) of 2012: “The inability of so many to engage meaningfully with the realization that the present order is about to be destroyed is the consequence of the presumptuous belief that nothing on this scale could possibly be allowed to happen to them.” Let us, therefore, embrace a new spirituality that is more mature and substantive, prepares us to become planetary citizens engaged in world service, and to experience consciousness expansion through personal effort, challenge, and spiritual living.

PASSING THE TESTbyOF TIME Diane J. Ackerman This is the paraphrased story of the eight cow wife condensed from an article in Woman's Day and written by Patricia McGeer. When I traveled to Kiniwata seeking adventure and excitement, I asked a local villager who to seek as the best guide to fulfill my dreams of fame and fortune. The villager replied that Johnny Lingo from Nurabundi, a neighboring island, was the man. Johnny knew the islands like the back of his hand. If pearls were to be found, Johnny would know where to look. While eager to oblige, I couldn’t help but notice an obvious smirk when mentioning Johnny’s name. Curious, I asked “What’s so funny?” The villager replied, “You know how it is. People like to talk.” Then he went on to explain. Johnny Lingo offered Sam Karroo eight cows for his daughter Sarita’s hand in marriage and the entire village was abuzz. Four or five cows were considered a handsome dowry. But eight cows was almost unheard of, especially when Sarita was considered a rather ordinary girl with no special talents. Sam jumped at the offer while the villagers laughed at Johnny thinking him a fool. Upon arrival to Nurabundi, I was greeted by Johnny and invited to his bungalow. I was introduced to his wife Sarita and I must say taken by surprise. She stood tall and regal with long blue black hair gently caressing her perfect feminine form. Her posture was that of an angel floating on a cloud as she served us tea and sweet cakes. Johnny mentioned that Sarita was originally from Kiniwata and asked if anyone spoke of her. Stammering I replied, “Well, well yes, her name had been mentioned as the most expensive bride in island history,” and I then proceeded to ask why Johnny paid such a large dowry for Sarita. With a proud smile Johnny threw back his shoulders and said, “Did you ever think what it must mean to a woman knowing that her husband settled on the lowest price? And that when speaking of other women, she would fail in comparison? I wanted to marry Sarita. I loved her and no other, but Sarita believed she was worth nothing. Now she knows she is worth more than any other woman in the islands. I wanted an eight cow wife.” When we first meet a potential partner, have a child or make a friend, we treat them with high esteem and value. As time goes on, we tend to lessen their value and often take advantage because we know we can. We might keep in mind that true love is priceless and loyalty is to be valued like a precious jewel. When we respect and appreciate others, relationships become immeasurable, constantly passing the test of time. Consequently, the possibility of becoming a grim statistic evolves to the probability of a life with joy and happiness. Consider this when tempted to respond to another with short quips and sarcasms.

Mediation

by Yogi Amrit Desai, A Solution for Healing Conflicts Gurudev Medication is a solution for healing pathology. Meditation is an end to all self-caused suffering. Mediation is a solution for healing conflicts. They are all interconnected to solve the problems of life that occur on different levels. Our purpose is the practical way to restore global peace: to bring peace to one person at a time. Peace begins on a personal level and extends through your thoughts, words and actions to everyone we interact with, everywhere you go. This is why it is said, “Be the peace that you seek in the world.” Mediation goes beyond a counseling approach. When you change seats to take the position the other is sitting in, see how it feels from the other’s position. Re-examining your position from the other’s point of view can reduce the rigidity of the position that you hold, which is preventing you from settling the conflict. When you see the problem not just exclusively from just one side of view, but when you learn to be open to include the other person, you can reach a settlement that supports and acknowledges both sides. When you learn this mediation process, you learn how to develop the capacity for non-participative, neutral witness that can see both sides of an issue and bring conflicting parties into reconciliation. Only the neutral mediator can restore harmony where there is conflict. The external world is just a reflection of you. Mediation allows you to apply choice-less, neutral awareness internally to settle your own conflicts with yourself. Settling conflict within yourself is the prerequisite for settling the external conflict. Mediation skills give you an ability to act as a non-participative witness to the parties in conflict. These skills are an application of the same process as the choice-less witness we develop through the practice of yoga. The process that helps you to settle the stress-producing conflicts that you live with. The skills you develop in mediation are akin to meditation and it can be a powerful medium for healing stressproducing conflicts, disharmony and disputes that we often face in our personal life, professional life, love life and social life. Regardless of what role you play in the form of parent or child, husband or wife, employer or employee, you are invariably required to navigate disputes. Mediation helps you to restore your communication skills and healthy relationships and allows you to help others as well. Mediation “without borders” means moving beyond the rigidity of the boundaries of perception that prevent you from seeing the other side. These boundaries act as an edge that you are not willing to cross. Both sides of a dispute are held by their edge that prevents them from settling their dispute. We teach how to cross that edge of distorted perception. The edge represents the boundary within which each party feels safe, but mediation helps you realize that relaxing and witnessing this edge is central to restoring harmony and peace. For more than 40 years, Yogi Amrit Desai (Gurudev) has been a pioneer in reestablishing the spiritual depth of yoga. The Amrit Yoga Institute offers a variety of programs for growth and healing including a new series for Professional Mediation Training and Certification. OBSERVER

OF THE EGO by

As we move into this year’s winter season, it is a powerful time to turn inward and take inventory of our lives. How have the last six months been? For myself and many others they have been filled with challenges on many levels and we will continue to move through them until the next planetary shift occurs and we rise to our next level of consciousness. Recently, I found myself reviewing a portion of Eckhart Tolle’s book A New Earth: Awakening to Your Life’s Purpose. Of course I was guided to the chapter on the “pain-body” which really was no surprise. It was very enlightening. This is something I feel we all need to revisit every now and then to remind us of how thought-forms can come in and manipulate us one way or another if we buy into them, especially when it comes to our relationships. Sometimes it is easy to reject the mirrors presented to us and blame or project outside of ourselves. To be reminded that there is nothing outside and that we are responsible for the world we see keeps us honest with ourselves showing us what is real and what is ego. People ask me how it is that my relationships survive. The one characteristic that is true is that when there is something “off,” some argument or something that we don’t see eye-to-eye on, I know that it is always about me. If I am irritated, it is mine.

Kateyah Kapashah

There is nothing outside of me that can throw me off unless I give away my power to it. In Tolle’s book, he writes that the pain-body can be dormant for awhile until it’s reactivated by some egoic irritant that causes us to react in anger, fear, jealousy or judgment. What is the solution and how do we rise above this negativity? It just takes practice of being the observer of our egos and really getting to know our stories about ourselves and the stories we make up about others. A close friend of mine keeps me in check when I am having a reaction to something. She takes her hand and waves it in my face and says, “You just made all that up.” That action brings me back to reality very quickly and can make me laugh about it at the same time. We take ourselves so seriously! So find that one book that touched you so deeply and assisted in your transformation and revisit it. Even if it is one chapter or only one line that made a huge difference, take it into the new year. Happy 2011! There is so much more to come! Music as Healing Therapy by Dr. Jim Vigue

In my last article, I mentioned that over 55 million women in this country are either perimenopausal or menopausal. When I designed my Stop Menopause Symptoms Now program, I incorporated an element of music because I knew that music in the background would enhance the positive hormonal effects of my program. In his book, The Mozart Effect, Don Campbell talks about how Mozart’s music can make dynamic changes in our emotional, physical and mental states. In fact, Campbell refers to a report in Great Britain’s Journal of the Royal Society of Medicine which indicates that 23 of 29 patients with severe epilepsy showed reduced epileptic activity while listening to Mozart’s music. Can music affect our health? Most certainly, as many recent studies have shown. In Campbell’s latest book, The Mozart Effect for Children, he explores overwhelming evidence on music’s role in language development, physical dexterity and brain development. The interesting thing is that while music has always entertained us as art, it has now become a fundamental contributor to our physical and mental health. Yes, music can even affect our hormones. Used as a background to my programs (for menopause, stress reduction and enhanced sport performance) music slows down breathing, pulse

rate and even metabolism. The listener feels completely relaxed, in a state scientists associate with the release of endorphins and reduction in cortisol levels, which are both positive hormonal benefits. Music has the power to heal, and interestingly music has become the universal language. Today more money is spent on music than on books, movies and sports. The best-known people today are not politicians but singers and vocalists. As the German composer Richard Wagner once said, “Music is the universal language.” Music is inexpensive as therapy. Today with people flocking to alternative medicine, they are seeking answers but they also do not want to be saddled with expensive programs. All you need for music are your ears and a radio or computer. It’s always easy to find music that resonates with you. In terms of your health, repressed anger and stress can often lead to muscle aches, migraine headaches, ulcers, strokes, tumors or even arthritis. People need to find healthy emotional outlets. Great music is one way to a healing, emotional release. Listening to great music can often clear out negative emotional blockages. Begin listening to Mozart today and you could be on your way to better health. Dr. Jim Vigue is an author and wellness coach with MA, MBA and Ph.D. degrees. THE ART OF BEING by Cynthia Smith I coordinated a workshop for a class, Simply Present; THE ART OF BEING. The speaker was guided to not provide a typical outline, but more an esoteric invitation to touch those who were meant to attend. I loved it, but it was a marketing challenge to get people interested in attending. They asked, “Well, what’s it about?” We’re so used to having everything laid out intellectually, in linear fashion, spelled out in specifics. We have become conditioned to wishing to know everything right now, including what we will be “getting” if we go to a spiritual workshop; sometimes ignoring the intuitive guidance to just trust and show up. Our culture operates in a world that assigns value only if we can see something tangible and control the situation to get it. Many feel uncomfortable if they are not in motion to make things happen, but are they really being present for their experiences or are they trying to validate their sense of being alive and vital? Perhaps their inner self recognizes that the intangible feeling of peace and simply being, is absent within them and that’s what they are searching for. The ART OF BEING is letting go of these thought processes and actions. It is the art of sitting and just being, not consciously doing or receiving anything, but accepting and trusting the universe to provide whatever you need. Don’t believe you have to climb to a mountaintop or surround yourself with nature and silence to awaken this ability. Even in a noisy house or a busy office, you can quietly BE, centered, still, watching the unfolding of life, not stressing out when something appears to be a setback to overcome. Those of us who are lightworkers understand that our higher selves know how to assess the true value of what becomes available to us. We have learned to not become attached to the outcome, but to allow whatever is in the highest and best for ourselves or our clients. Intuitively, we know when we receive or send healing energy. It’s not tangible but we feel strongly connected and present. While working in this manner we are practicing THE ART OF BEING. When teaching the Seraphim Blueprint Energy System over the phone or sending angelic healing energies to others, people often question how this can be done. They know they probably won’t see the Seraph or energy, but it satisfies their cognitive need to at least see me in the room. Once they let go of feeling the need to control the situation, and allow themselves to just BE open to the results, they often have a profound, lifealtering experience. I know it’s not easy in this third-dimensional world to always be present, balanced and centered. THE ART OF BEING is like any other of the Arts. It requires tapping into our innately gifted abilities, acquiring training and tools to hone them, and ongoing practice to master – THE ART OF BEING. Cynthia Smith is a Seraphim Blueprint teacher, Guardian of Gaia and energy practitioner with training in Reiki, feng shui, meditation and crystal energies. She is owner of Seraphim Light Energies. As a Lightworker Cindy finds joy in working as a facilitator to assist others in their Spiritual expansion. Secrets For Living A High Velocity Life

There are some people who like soap operas and there are others who like Star Trek,” said the client. “And which are you?” I asked. “I’m definitely a Trekker,” he replied. “I wonder if you can imagine,” I said, “standing on the deck of the starship Enterprise, guiding that spaceship to the planet where you can find those resources you need to achieve your goal.” Thus began a healing story based on the client’s tastes in television shows. An effective hypnotist utilizes the power of art in order to help clients. Some clients have had unpleasant past experiences which adversely affect them today. Instead of discussing those experiences directly, which could be uncomfortable, I prefer to talk metaphorically in terms of some story the client finds meaningful, whether from television, cinema, a novel, play or poem. How could the lead character in the story find a solution to an analogous problem? This process engages the client’s unconscious in a creative quest for a solution and at the same time provides protection from emotional pain. Tarot cards are a powerful way of accessing this story-telling capacity. My first involvement with tarot was asking clients to use the Rider-Waite deck to tell stories about the past and the future. The aim was to produce a self-fulfilling prophecy. Also, there may be pieces of music the client finds inspiring or relaxing. Music affects parts of the brain that cannot be otherwise reached. Marcey Hamm is an engineer and amateur musician who was in severe pain after a car accident. In a trance state, she created powerful healing music which enabled her complete recovery. The client may have seen a painting, sculpture, performance, historical building or artifact which can be brought back in imagination to powerful affect.

ART AS A

METAPHOR FOR HEALING

Human beings reproduce their internal world in the form of ritual. Traditional cultures participate in group dances such as the kris dance in Bali in which the whole of human experience is represented. Something of this wholeness can be found in epic poems and orchestral symphonies. In an atomized technological society, we have to make an effort to choose what art to become aware of. The oldest known portraits dating from around 6,000 B.C. were excavated in Jericho. The artist spread earth onto human skulls to imitate living flesh, then added eyes in the form of cowrie shells (symbols of fertility). The art historian Sir Ernest Gombrich explained, “The test of the image is not its lifelikeness but its efficacy within a context of action.”(1) Anybody who experiences habitual negative states can get distance from those states by simply drawing a picture (metaphorical or representational) of how they feel and then reflect on an artistic work which conveys something of how they would like to feel. It could be anything from wearing a Hawaiian shirt to attending the circus. Now draw that picture. Play a CD of some music that accompanies it. The picture and music already act as magnets drawing powerful positive resources from the unconscious mind. (1) E.H. Gombrich, Art and Illusion, Phaidon Press, London, 1960, 5th ed. 1977, p. 94.

Secrets For Living A High Velocity Life

Weekly Events concluded on page 48

Mother Meera Comes to Orlando and Fort Lauderdale by Leela Sivsammye My friend Catherine excitedly tells me about her visit with Mother Meera: “I have not experienced so much love from one person. I feel like a brand new being.” I click on the link to Mother Meera and feel moved in subtle ways I cannot explain. I feel compelled to help and be part of this divine work and without a thought as to the enormity of what I am undertaking I write and ask if Mother Meera would come to my city. Imagine my surprise when her staff responds that she would come if there was enough interest. Mother Meera is an enlightened being from India, described as an incarnation of the Divine Mother, on a mission in the world transformation of consciousness. Her purpose is to open people into the divine light and to help them surrender to this light with all their heart, mind and soul. Asked about this she responds, “It is to help humans and to make them happy, peaceful, contented, harmonious and loving. Happiness and spiritual growth are connected. Being peaceful and being happy form the most important foundation of spiritual practice. Then the practice goes by itself.”

Mother’s Work

Mother Meera explains, “… The consciousness of mankind is being prepared for great leaps and discoveries–in a gentle way wherever possible. But some things will have to be destroyed. I do not like to destroy. I like to change things. But where there is no openness there must be destruc-

tion. However, God is giving man a great chance. Many divine persons are here. We are showing man a way out. We are offering him the Divine Light, the Divine knowledge. We are bringing down into the consciousness of the Earth the Divine consciousness. Now man must choose. Man is free. God will not force his children to do anything. He wants their free love. Mercy and Love are always there.”

Mother’s Darshan

Her simplicity of work is accomplished through the silence of darshan (Sanskrit for “auspicious viewing”) and the transference of light into people’s bodies. Darshan is the bestowal of Love, Light and Grace. Mother gives darshan in silence, and it’s her gift to humanity and bestowed free of charge. Darshan performed simply, quietly, without singing, as Mother Meera clarifies, “People are too active and rarely sit quietly. In silence one can receive more because all one’s activities become concentrated at one point. My teaching is to give only the essence, the Divine, that which is necessary. I give exactly what is needed by each person…. God is silent. Everything comes out of silence. In silence more work can be done. The true experience of bliss is without words.” I have been humbly gifted to spend time in Mother’s presence. Mother came to me and listened and just held my hands as I ranted on and on about grief, betrayal and a myriad of emotions I felt when all I could do was helplessly watch a situation in my life from the sidelines. Slowly, ever so slowly, I felt an energy pulsing through from my hands to all of my body. I became silent and conscious to every thought in my mind as the energy increased in intensity. Suddenly, my eyelids flickered backwards as I consciously acknowledged that this is what happens when you are deep in meditation. I had never experienced this be-

fore–to be so deep in a meditative state and be conscious at the same time where there is no time, only the awareness of being one with all that is. In that state all was resolved and I opened my eyes to the world of illusion with no pain or grief, only the feeling of acceptance, of peace and knowing that I was touched by the Divine and was humbly thankful to have received grace and blessings. It was the most surreal experience that I can go back to and relive whenever the world of illusion crashes upon me. This is what it is like to live with someone who has no ego. Mother is simplicity herself, in thought, word and actions. From moment to moment her presence exudes the “Nowness” of living that I had read about before and now realize in action. Mother Meera will be in Orlando on January 30, and Fort Lauderdale, February 1. To attend darshan is free, though reservations are required to reserve your seat. Go to: http://MotherMeeraFlorida.com. Many blessings to you for all that you are and will be in this new year.

Messages from the Young Indigo Generation: Featuring Chris Frisz Church–The Silent Virus Many people claim to be religious and are avid churchgoers, but has anyone really questioned if church is good for a person’s energy, body, or mind? The other day I was telling my mom how much I liked how Joel Osteen preaches. He’s all about the heart. My mom, a strict conservative Baptist, doesn’t like him. My mom says she has a beautiful belief system. Being sensitive to energy, when she said that, I saw the energy: dark, ugly and twisted. What many Christians don’t realize is that each individual church creates a unique belief system that influences your body, looks, and build, your relationship with the world, and the people and circumstances you attract into your life. The belief system will come around you and into your crown chakra like metal poles sticking from the ground, giving you a false foundation, a false security. Subconsciously, you start to align with the particular religious belief system, creating a God that many people believe is loving yet judgmental, creating a heaven and a hell and creating a set of rules that have to be followed in order to enter the pearly gates. If enough people believe in something, they can create it. Going to church is like a virus. You’re told to go every Sunday, creating guilt when you don't attend. Or they implant a belief system that cords you to an angry, judgmental God. So you now are controlled consciously and subconsciously by the silent virus, the belief system of many conservative churches. I don’t go to church anymore. I’ve seen too many good people ruined by churches’ generous outreaches, like hands grabbing, pulling you down to hell itself. I feel I can speak about this topic, because I was at the mercy of this belief system, unknowingly, for almost twenty years, until I said a big "fuck you" to it. It’s incredible, really, how people go through life with their eyes closed after being ‘saved’ by a church, wishing for a heaven that might or might not be real. So happy trails, and remember, don’t get stuck in Church. Chris is a Central Florida college student and owns Frisz Lawn Care and Landscaping. See ad p. 17.

From Drawing Trees to Living in the Moment An excerpt from Thrive Inside: Secrets of Spiritual Masters, Gurus and Shamans available on Amazon.com

by Bill Eager Don Moulton taught me how to draw a tree when I was thirteen. Over a course of months, Don showed me how to see the world and transfer what I saw onto paper. Trees were my favorite subject. Ten years later as a documentary filmmaker I chose Don as the subject for a film. Don, now a prominent artist, would search the world for gorgeous apples and lingams, beautiful meditative rocks. Then he would shape and meticulously paint three dimensional versions. They would hang on a wall as if they had grown there. The owners of the majestic John Hancock Building, a two-million-squarefoot tower in downtown Boston, commissioned Don’s apples. Don’s classroom invokes a comfortable feeling of the textures and aromas that compose artistic expression. The smell of oil paint and turpentine fill the room. All attention focuses on the male model in the center of the room. Don shuffles around the periphery moving up to students who appear to be in need of direction. He watches a young woman who is holding her paintbrush with indecision. He offers, “Think space, and it will look like space. Try not to get involved with that jacket. Just deal with it as one color.” He moves to a young man who, surprisingly, is wearing a completely white shirt that does not have a spot of paint on it. The fellow stares at his painting. It has a complete face that resembles the model, but there are large white spaces where there should be a torso. Don places his hand on the artist’s shoulder. Like a pastor, he suggests, “My son, you should bring up that color. If lightning were to strike our model and he was carried off to heaven, you could stop. Your painting would be complete. At any point it is complete.” Like a spiritual guide with a sense of humor, Don’s insights give his students knowledge that art has a philosophical aspect. The satisfaction that is available every moment in our life is more significant than an undetermined outcome. The young man nods and repeats softly, “At any point it is complete.” Bill Eager is the author of ten books that have sold more than one million copies. Bill has trained with leading authorities on alternative health care, holistic living and yoga. He is a certified Yoga Instructor, Yoga Nidra facilitator, Reiki practitioner and energy healer who teaches workshops around the world. Please see ad for his book, Thrive Inside, next column.

Art of Sensuality

CELEBRATE THE

For a moment, reflect on the thought of a society that views intimacy and sensuality as an art form—sensuality as a beautiful work of art crafted in authentic love and conscious desire. Let’s go a little further and envision our school system teaching the sensual arts of Tantra and the “Kama Sutra” as they would teach choir, dance and sports. How different do you think our society would be? Do you think we would live in a culture that continues to repress authentic sensual expression, yet uses sex to sell everything from shampoo to pest control? Or do you think we could evolve into a community that is able to express the natural and loving nature of sensuality as normal, an important ingredient in a healthy life? Think of your own belief structure. Many Europeans and South Americans are fully aware that being sensual is not the same as being sexual. Sensuality is a state of being and sexuality is a state of action. The art of sensuality involves fully embracing your five senses to experience the true abundance of life. This abundance chooses to express itself as pleasure and joy. Visualize your body being seduced by the intense fragrance of fresh cut flowers, the feel of soft silk, your eyes captivated by the gorgeous glow of soft candlelight, your taste buds tempted by the succulent juices of sweet pineapples, and your ears entranced by the hypnotic sound of the ocean. Celebrating sensuality as an art form empowers you to be your own Michelangelo. Are you ready to create authentic joy and passion? The most revered artists studied and perfected their craft. They approached it with dedication, love and a deep desire. Many even referred to their craft as

Secrets For Living A High Velocity Life

DYING OF THIRST by

O

verhearing a fellow Iraqi prisoner moaning with intense pain, Dr. Batmanghlidj asked the man what medication he had been given. The ailing prisoner had already taken an entire bottle of antacids and two high doses of Tagamet for his ulcer, but all day the pain had steadily grown worse. Increasing the recommended dosages had only served to increase the man’s suffering. Knowing that more medication was not the answer, the doctor instinctively gave the only thing he had left to offer—two glasses of water. Within three minutes, the pain lessened. After another eight minutes, the pain was gone! The man was simply dehydrated! Many years later, and 20 years of studying water’s healing effects, Dr. Batmanghlidj lamented, “The greatest tragedy in medical history is that stupid assumption that dry mouth is the only sign of dehydration. The medical community bought this statement and put us back 100 years and trillions of dollars of research and hundreds of millions of people suffering and dying, not knowing that they were only dehydrated.” I imagine most of you have never considered that many of your chronic conditions, aches and pains are due to dehydration. Because our bodies cannot tell us when we need to drink water, it tries to communicate with us by sending pain signals, however we don’t understand our body’s language of pain. Have you ever heard that many times when we think we’re hungry, we may actually be thirsty? Water is the only substance that does not have to be altered for the body to utilize. There is no substitute for water. All ingested substances except water must be broken down into their component parts. All other liquids (coffee, caffeinated teas, juices, beer, wine, sports drinks, soda), do nothing to hydrate the body. In fact, they are highly acidic and cause dehydration. And if you think all waters are the same, you’d be mistaken. Bottled, reverse osmosis, tap and filtered waters all have their own issues, but that’s a topic for a future article.

Vivienne Bailey

Why would the NIH do that? Who benefits when we are dehydrated and sick? The common basic procedure patients receive in the hospital is salt and water (saline drip) at $400 to $500 a bag. In addition, most medications further dehydrate our bodies. As a rule, a dehydrated body will never be healthy. To minimize the cellular dehydration and damage our bodies suffer, we must make wiser beverage (and food) choices. Learn to recognize and answer your body’s thirst signals with high alkaline, ionized and microclustered water. For more information on this type of water, see www.YourWaterWisdom.com. See Vivienne’s website for more information on water: www. YourWaterWisdom.com. Vivienne also practices Reiki, aromatherapy and sound healing with Tibetan sound bowls. In Dr. Batmanghelidj’s book, Your Body’s Many Cries for Water (You’re not Sick, You’re Thirsty: Do Not Treat Thirst with Medication), he states that most health problems are due to chronic dehydration and acidic body tissues. All of the above mentioned beverages, as well as processed and fast foods, create an environment of chronic dehydration, inflammation and acidity, ultimately resulting in body pain and chronic illness. When Dr. Batmanghelidj presented this ground-breaking information at the 1992 Alternative Medicine Conference in Virginia, he pleaded with the physicians in attendance to encourage their patients to drink water. Later, the National Institute of Health (NIH) omitted his presentation from the conference’s proceedings.

I

SOUL INTENTIONS

love when the new year begins. It feels as if the slate has been wiped clean, a chance to experience a fresh new start, a time of new beginnings, exciting opportunities and infinite possibilities. I choose to embrace this time of year wholeheartedly.

I’ve been consciously on a path of self-awareness and connection with the essence of my true self for some time. One of my favorite quotes is, “To thine own self be true,” by William Shakespeare. I consider myself a soul seeker. I seek to discover the truth of my soul and its highest intentions. The soul is the non-physical part of us that is immortal. Our bodies will die one day, however our soul lives on forever. Our soul is always with us waiting patiently to express itself in many different ways such as in messages and loving guidance in the form of gut feelings, intuition, desires, inspiration, creativity and insights. The beginning of the year is a wonderful opportunity to explore our soul’s highest intentions. By spending quality time with ourselves soul searching we can pave the way for new experiences and opportunities to manifest that honor our soul’s journey.

So how do we get in touch with our soul intentions?

• Spend time daily in silence, quiet the mind and meditate five to thirty minutes daily. • During silence and connection, ask your soul what it truly wants. • Surround yourself in the beauty of nature. Feel the energy of the earth flow through your body. • Daily appreciate all the things you have including the miracle of life itself. • Write in a journal. Record all insights, guidance and thoughts revealed during silence.

When we quiet our mind, our soul whispers to us sweetly, revealing our truth, its highest intentions and the path of least resistance. Our inner guidance voice is gentle and softspoken, always with us, waiting lovingly and patiently to be invited into all our experiences. When we become aware of the power that dwells inside us and invite our soul’s intentions into our mind, we can hear the voice of guidance direct our steps very specifically. Our soul’s truth breaks through the obstacles the ego sets up and shines brilliantly in our minds. When we honor our soul’s intended path we truly shine. Things come to us with ease and simplicity. A great way to start the day is by spending a few minutes while still in bed before completely waking up, asking our soul what it wants for us today. Lie quietly and still, expecting a message, feeling or guidance. Give thanks for waking up to another magnificent day. Read the last journal entry of any insights, desires or thoughts. Last, repeat silently a few times, “I know something great will happen to me today.” Trust that all is unfolding for the highest good of yourself and all others. Our soul is here to remind us of who we truly are and of the love that dwells within us. Devote time daily to nurturing the soul. It truly has our highest intentions at heart. HYPERTHERMIA THERAPY A BREAKTHROUGH TREATMENT FOR CANCER? “Give me a chance to create a fever and I will cure any disease.” –Parmenides, Ancient Greek Philosopher by Dr. Albert Nuñez, DVM, Contributing Spiritual Life Editor I usually delve into metaphysical issues but today I would like to help bridge the metaphysical with the physical. There have been many recent developments in physics lately, one of which I strongly believe will revolutionize modern medicine. Hyperthermia Therapy is a potent cancer fighting tool that is less invasive, more effective, and easier to deliver than most current conventional anticancer therapies. Recent breakthroughs in the field of hyperthermia therapy (the ability to deliver a fever [heat] to treat disease in the body) have given medical pioneers a powerful new tool with broad therapeutic applications. We feel reminiscent of the first men who were given hammers and simply asked, “What do you think you guys can do with this thing?” Hyperthermia therapy itself has been around since at least Egyptian times, if not forever. Use of hyperthermia in cancer treatment is of particular interest. It is known that hyperthermia therapy kills or inhibits cancer growth at or above 41° C but normal cells can survive temperatures of 47° C. We take advantage of this temperature difference to kill the tumor cells and spare the normal tissues and cells. The new treatment machines are small, portable, relatively inexpensive, and enable us to deliver a ball of safely controlled heat anywhere in the body at a depth of 15cm. This ball of heat increases blood flow to the targeted area by about 15 times the normal rate, thus speeding healing and the immune response. The increased blood flow to the area has been found to increase the blood pH locally and systemically, increasing the speed of delivery of immune cells, stem cells and oxygen to the area. The unit’s electromagnetic field repolarizes cell membranes. All have devastating effects on cancer and wonderful applications in spinal cord injuries and a wide array of applications anywhere and anytime more blood and oxygen flow is needed in a vital area. The future is wide open for new discovery! In clinical trials only the primary tumor site was treated because the hyperthermia therapy seems to wake up the immune system and expose the metastatic tumors as foreign to the body. Once the main tumor dies as a result of the therapy, the metastatic tumors get dealt with by the immune system. Truly amazing! I’ve been a veterinarian in medicine for almost 20 years and I have never had a tool remotely close to this one!

54

www.ReadVelocity.com •

We’ve literally lost sleep over the amazing response to this therapy employed in our daily private practice. There are many potential uses in the field of cancer\oncology, spinal cord injuries, pain relief and physical therapy. Trials are being conducted to evaluate its use in immune system therapy, hyperthyroidism and diabetes. Many times I show doctors pictures of tumors dying or paralytic dogs moving their limbs after short hyperthermia therapy and they look at me like I’m crazy and say, “That’s impossible!” The world is flat they say! No, I say, it’s round! “We have reproduced results similar to those of Jeffrey Phillips, DVM, University of Tennessee College of Veterinary Medicine at Knoxville, [and to those of Duke University’s treatments with humans!] Dr. Phillips’ research is showing us that some particular protocols have a greater than 80% success rate for some of the worst cancers in severely affected patients. The hypertherapy technology and therapy is starting to take off in small and large animal medicine, but frustratingly, slowly. Our clinic is one of the few pioneering clinics using this therapy in the United States and we are swamped with lots of happy clients. The demand for this therapy is great. Doctors need to be trained as soon as possible just to keep up with the demand for this effective therapy due to the current cancer epidemic worldwide. Word of this therapy moves like molasses and is being sabotaged by conflicting interests in some cases. Please go to your local veterinarian and ask him to look into hyperthermia for treating cancer and other diseases in your pet. Educate yourself on hyperthermia therapy and then educate your veterinarian. I believe that once people see the worst cancers and diseases being effectively and humanely treated in their animals at their veterinarian’s office, they will demand the same level of care for themselves, that they will look their doctors in the eyes and say to them, “Please treat my mother, my brother, my friend, my dying child with the same level of compassion, effectiveness, dignity and respect as my veterinarian treats our family dog. After all we are humans, not cattle!” We are accepting patients with spinal cord injuries for our current study and have had numerous animals with remarkable improvements thus far.

Secrets For Living A High Velocity Life

Treatment clinics are being developed offshore where laws permit this kind of therapy in humans while AGAN Therapeutics, developer of this cancer treatment platform technology completes FDA approval. Waiting lists have begun. The faster we educate the medical community about this breakthrough therapy, the more lives we can help. I have dedicated this article to my friend Gale, a very courageous woman who lost her most painful battle with bone cancer the week of this writing. I have dedicated the rest of my life to the speedy discovery of anything that relieves pain and suffering in my fellow beings! I have hope that someday soon we can treat humans as well as we can now treat pets with cancer and put an end to this heartless disease that affects us all in one way or another. Information on heat assisted cancer research and therapy can be obtained by visiting http://AGANTherapeutics.com. BRING THE CANVAS OF YOUR BODY TO LIFE

THE ART OF ACUPUNCTURE

by Stephanie Irzyk, DOM, AP

Acupuncture is the one form of medicine that is also an art. While western medicine is largely based on science, technology and clinical research, eastern medicine is based on the concept of humans’ relationships to nature and their environment. Disease patterns are differentiated by the nature in which they manifest in the body: hot/ cold, interior/exterior, deficient/excess, or yin/yang. The way we interact with our environment, our constitution determined upon birth, our lifestyle choices, diet and emotional state all determine our picture of health. We are not separate from our illness. We are the artists who create it. The art of diagnosis in Chinese Medicine involves tracing backward to the origin of disease, carefully analyzing the ways in which the disease process has manifested. It is like putting together the pieces of a puzzle. The symptoms and causes of disease are the puzzle pieces and the completed picture is the diagnosis. We are born a blank canvas. We are full of life and spirit,

ready to embrace the world and all it has to offer. We decide how we want to paint our canvas–what the picture of our future will look like. Unfortunately, many of us choose an unhealthy diet, make poor lifestyle choices, and live with excessive fear, anger, stress and frustration. Some of the paintings are prettier than others. The patient is the canvas. The acupuncturist is the artist. The artist looks at the canvas, determining which areas the paintbrush will touch, creating balance and symmetry, bringing light to darkness and stillness to life. Each needle is artfully inserted into a precise location on the body to have a desired effect. Deficient organs are tonified and excess conditions are reduced. Channel palpation is used to locate and select the acupuncture points to be treated. Much like artists assessing their work of art, the acupuncturist assesses which areas need more paint and which areas need to be toned down or shaded. Various acupuncture points along the 14 energy channels of the body are palpated and assessed. When a patient has a deficient condition, acupuncture points on the body will feel hollow and form a depression as if they need to be filled in. When a patient has an excess condition, a nodule, swelling or protrusion will be felt. A patient may have deficient Qi (energy), blood, yin (fluids) or yang (warmth and movement). If there is insufficient heat, the body will be cold (yang deficiency) and if there are insufficient fluids to cool down the body, it will be hot (yin deficiency). A patient may also have excess dampness (fluid retention), phlegm (mucus), or stagnation (impeded flow of blood or Qi). The acupuncture needle is the paint that brings the canvas to life, the vehicle through which the patient’s natural healing energies come forth. As this energy is tapped into, the patient may begin to feel energy, warmth, movement and electricity, the communication of the paint on the canvas. What was uneven becomes balanced. What was stagnant becomes free flowing. Stephanie Irzyk, DOM, AP (NCCAOM) graduated Suma Cum Laude with a Masters of Science in Oriental Medicine and Bachelor of Science in Professional Health Studies from the Florida College of Integrative Medicine. She has completed advanced certifications and extensive study in Contemporary Chinese Pulse Diagnosis and Contemporary Oriental Medicine.® Stephanie focuses on incorporating the knowledge of Classical Chinese Medicine with a contemporary approach to cater to the needs of our industrialized society. Secrets For Living A High Velocity Life

The Art of LIFE, LOVE and HAPPINESS The sweetness of life lies in usefulness, like honey deep in the heart of a clover bloom. —Laura Ingalls Wilder

by Reverend E. Ann Otzelberger, NST The law of our being is perpetual increase, progress and growth. When one good is realized, another desire for a greater good will develop, and when a higher state is reached, another and more glorious state will unfold and urge us on and on. The advancing life is the true life, the life we are here to live. Desire is the natural way most people seek knowledge and understanding. It is through this effort that we expand our own awareness. Not a single act is accomplished without the Natural Law of Desire. Each of us eventually will learn that we have a spark of divinity within us. We learn that we are all a part of God, all a part of each other. As a part of God, we all have the same rights and privileges. We do not have the right to judge each other. As we follow the laws of nature, we have the same responsibilities. We are each responsible for the things we say, think and do. We are responsible for the world around us. We all need love, one person who loves us unconditionally. We each need a feeling of achievement, to be able to be recognized for doing something well. We need someone to really care about us. We need to have a certain amount of freedom to learn, change and become ourselves, to create our lives as we want them to be. We need nurturing, to be touched and we need some manifestation of love. We all have the potential to love. Ask yourself, “What is essential about me? What is my worth? What are my needs?” There is no limit, so take your own path, make your own way, be responsible for yourself, love yourself. Loving yourself does not mean becoming ego-centered. It means having a genuine interest, caring, concern and respect for yourself. If you love yourself you will maintain your uniqueness. The pursuit of self helps us be a good person–loving, feeling, intelligent, caring. Before we can love all others, the first responsibility is to love one’s own self. The Bible says, “You shall love your neighbor as Yourself,” telling us to grow in self-love so we can help our fellowman. Our bodies are important, and certainly our thoughts and programming, but wherever we are right now is important. Love now, where you are, for it all starts here. Start by saying, “Yes, I love me, where I am with all my limitations, but that does not necessarily mean it is where I am going to be tomorrow. It just means that I like me where I am now.” If I had a magic wand I would wave it over everybody and have you say, and really believe, “I like me wherever I am right now, right this minute, I am great!” ~Love and Blessings Reverend E. Ann Otzelberger is the founding pastor of New Vision Spiritualist Center. She is an NSAC Ordained Minister, a commissioned spiritualist healer, a certified medium and National Spiritualist Teacher. Reverend Otzelberger is a trustee on the board of directors of the NSAC. Reverend Ann also serves the Morris Pratt Institute as Vice President of their Board of Directors and is on their Education Committee. Please see ad this page.

The name Medici lives because the art endures.” --Central Florida artist Doug Hays There is an art to living well. We all have a talent for it. Whether that talent has been cultivated or denigrated makes the difference in how we experience our lives.

THE PHYSICAL SELF Studies indicate that humans need an average of eight hours sleep per night. I often need more to function at my best. How many do you need? The art of nurturing our bodies begins with the art of listening to them. What exercise makes your body sing? What foods give you energy and which make you feel worn out? Rest, nutrition, respecting our bodies—all are elements of living well. Listen to your body. It is wise.

THE EMOTIONAL SELF Emotions are a common area for us to be told we are wrong. Most of my life, I was told I was too sensitive. Yet sensitivity is a gift that serves my clients well when I feel what they are feeling physically, emotionally. You have the right to feel exactly what you feel. Honor your emotions and they will honor you.

THE INTELLECTUAL SELF One of my favorite expressions is, “We are what we eat: mentally, physically, spiritually, and emotionally,” because experience has shown it’s true. I know a woman who used to be filled with anxiety. Her cure was to turn off the news. When she stopped feeding herself drama, she stopped being drama. What are you feeding your mind? What is your mind hungry for? Feed your mind a healthful way, for what is in your mind cannot be taken away.

THE SPIRITUAL SELF I can be my own worst enemy or my own best friend. That choice determines how I cultivate my spiritual self. When I’m my own best friend, I take the time to meditate, take care of my body, mind, soul, and spirit, spend time with positive people and focus on what’s working. The more I do this, the more love, joy, honor and passion I have to give away. Be love. It’s the answer to every question.

THE HIGHER SELF No one can have a relationship with our Higher Self for us. Whether we believe it lives outside of us, within us, or is us, no matter what name we give it, or how we choose to cultivate this relationship, each of us is solely responsible for our own relationship. I choose to watch for the hidden messages in my life and celebrate the miracles, even the ones that come wrapped as disasters. What works for you? When it comes to your life, you are the only expert. You are the only one who has been there the whole time. Cultivate the art of living well, first in yourself, then in others, and your name will endure. I promise.

GOD’S PERFECT WORK OF ART

by Rev. Mary Blocher

I remember being spellbound as my eyes gazed upon petroglyphs that had been etched 1400 years ago into the rocks at Mesa Verde National Park. These art images were made by ancestral Puebloans who then lived in the Four Corners area of Colorado. In that moment, I sensed that humans have always had the need to express the arts, no matter how primitive we view the lifestyle of the artist. One of the finest examples of primitive art can be found in southwestern France near the village of Montignac, where cave paintings are estimated to be 17,000 years old! These paintings are the best known Paleolithic art in the world and primarily consist of images of large animals that roamed the area long ago. Native Americans have always had a special interest in making useful objects that are combined with sacred traditions. In the Navajo legend, credit is given to Spider Woman for teaching people the art of weaving. The legend states that the first loom was made of sky and earth cords; tools of sunlight, lightening, white shells and crystal were used to make a blanket. Even today, in order to allow the good spirits of the blanket to escape, a weaver must allow one border to have a chinde, or Spirit Trail. This Spirit Trail is a single color strand from the interior of the design that leads to the outside of the blanket. In leaving this trail the weaver is assured that another good blanket may be woven. Lakota elders have told me that when they make an object, they purposely make a mistake by using an off-color bead. They do this because they feel that only the Creator is perfect. They are showing their humanness and humility of imperfection as they walk upon Mother Earth. The great artist Michelangelo was once asked how he created the beautiful statue of David. He said that David was inside that giant block of marble. His job was to chip away all that did not belong to the masterpiece that we call David.

Thinking about beautiful visual art from long ago until the present reminds me of another art form–music. Karen Taylor-Good wrote the song Perfect Work of Art in which she says, “Let me be the way I was created. Let me find a perfect heart. I’ll chip away all jealousy and hatred, and become God’s perfect work of art.” As wonderful as visual art is, music and literature add joy to our existence in this life. The most perfect work of art is the fact that we are made in the image and likeness of God. We have the power to be great artists as we, like Michelangelo, chip away our jealousy and hatred and finally become God’s perfect work of art!

Rev. Mary Blocher grew up in Huntington, Indiana and graduated from Indian University with a Master’s Degree in Education. In 2005, she was ordained by the Association of Unity Churches International. She was one of the ministers at Fellowship of Spirit in Farmington, New Mexico which is associated with the International New Thought Alliance. In February 2007, she became the minister at Unity Leesburg. Please see ad this page.

WANDERING AROUND IN THE THEATRE OF MEMORY

[

]

The world is so full of a number of things, I’m sure we should all be as happy as kings! —Robert Louis Stevenson

Theatre of Memory is a private museum wedded dangerously to performance art. All of the documents, artifacts and geofacts presented here are components of shows presented over the last decades in dramatic settings, after-school programs, book clubs and retirement communities. These people were all ready for fun, intellectually curious and kind enough to pay for a good story. In our quest for good stories we pick through the flotsam and jetsam that time has washed upon the shores of now and sift for meaning. These pieces have come into our hands and our consideration for the short time that we walk the planet and we seek to share them and their stories with a wider audience. In fact, the whole point of this enterprise has been to put historical documents, artifacts and geofacts into the hands of audience members interested enough to contemplate them and utter “What the∑?” Theatre of Memory courts the overview, abandoning itself occasionally to giddy little binges of specialization. Each story is told through the handson examination of ancient and modern documents, art and artifacts, and specimen-quality pieces of the fossil record as well as extremely rare meteorites from space. In neither collection nor presentation is the Theatre of Memory constrained by the scientific method. We admit to other ordering principles and though we appear to play fast and loose in matters of taxonomy, there is a great respect here for the hard-won methods and ordering principles of science and the scientist’s remarkable attempts at objectivity. In history, where objectivity is (at best) a charming fiction, we do admit to an editorial subjectivity caused, in part, by a limited acquisition budget. Where we have a choice, our slant tends more toward the “New Cultural History” which examines common men and women, rather than the “Let Us Now Praise Famous Men” school of approach. Any errors in fact, interpretation or judgment are our own and we welcome being corrected by those more knowledgeable, through polite discourse. In fact, and in practice, a driving force of our endeavor is to raise the level of discourse wherever and whenever possible. And to have fun. Bill is a lifelong musician, a broadcaster and a seasoned performer. He is a collector and lecturer, focusing on moments and eons in the vast depths of time as well as the thrilling immensities of space. He is a member of the Manuscripts Society and a contributor to Manuscripts Magazine. Bill also works as the Entertainment Director for the City of Gainesville, FL Division of Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs. Please see ad this page.

Secrets For Living A High Velocity Life

Echo of My Soul TRIBAL BELLY DANCE

Women are at a higher risk than men for physical, emotional, or sexual abuse, as well as depression, eating disorders, anxiety, substance use (especially prescription psychotherapeutics), or suicide (Department of Health and Human Services, 2009). Body fragmentation, depression and stress have all been mentioned in different fields of study as factors in women’s overall well-being. This body fragmentation can also affect our truest essence where our soul resides. Taking a tribal belly dance course can provide us the opportunity to connect to our bodies and begin to establish the interconnection where true balance occurs. This body awareness can be accomplished through slow, controlled movements that focus on the isolations within the body as well as provide us with an opportunity to center and connect with our truest self. In this moment, we will not only gain awareness of, but also control what is going on within our body. The body movement that tribal belly dance encourages will then begin the process of integrating sensations and feelings to assist and enhance the mind-body connection, conscious awareness and mindfulness, which is essential to overall health and wellbeing. Through tribal belly dance my soul speaks and I am no longer inhibited. I am not silenced by fears, frustrations, anxieties. I go right to my core. I dance away the barriers, let go of the feelings and emotions and create space for transformation. This act allows my soul to speak, to live, to be. I always say that tribal belly dance is the echo of my soul. This art form allows me to connect to my mind, body and spirit, all resonating from my soul. The beat of the drums pulsating through my feet, grounding me to Mother Earth, gives my soul its voice. I am my truest essence in this moment. Jenenne R. Valentino-Bottaro holds a M.A. degree from Webster University and is a Ph.D. Canidate in Human Services with a specialization in Social and Community Services from Cappella University. As a Women’s Self Defense Instructor, Hypnotist, Mind-Excellence Specialist, Body Ways Specialist and nearing her certification as Holistic Fitness Practioner through NESTA, playing a role in women’s overall health and wellness is important to her. Jenenne is a student of Amy Anthony at Om Studios, Orlando, Florida in her level I and Level II Tribal Belly Dance Instruction. Ormus Minerals– Gateway To Higher Evolution by Irlianna Samsara I first learned about Ormus minerals two years ago when I began to seriously explore a raw food lifestyle. Ormus or Ormes is an acronym for Orbitally Rearranged Monoatomic Elements. They were discovered in the late 1970s by David Hudson while mining gold on his land in Arizona. Ormus minerals exist in a different atomic state from the metallic minerals we learned about in science class. The elements Hudson identified are cobalt, nickel, copper, ruthenium, rhodium, palladium, silver, osmium, iridium, platinum, gold and mercury. These minerals, in particular, monatomic gold, create a biochemistry that bridges your body into other dimensions. The stuff of quantum physics, wormholes, space travel, etc., is intimately connected with monatomic gold. Monatomic Gold is one of the Ormus minerals. The floor of the King’s Chamber in the Great Pyramid was dusted with gold. It is widely believed that this is where Yeshua (Jesus) had his final initiation. Ormus gold (also known as Monatomic Gold or m-state gold) creates a frequency in the body that has the potential to allow telepathy, levitation, psychokinesis and even bilocation. These are all considered siddhis (Sanskrit for higher spiritual powers) of which advanced yogis are capable. Ormus minerals, as many researchers and scientists are starting to understand, connect us to the higher evolutionary blueprint of man. It just so happens that certain foods known as superfoods are extremely high in Ormus minerals. That’s why, at this critical point in the evolution of humanity, we need to eat as many of these superfoods as we can. Superfoods are raw, living foods that are at the highest end of the nutrition spectrum such as hempseed, maca, bluegreen algae, coconut water, chia seed, aloe vera, goji berry, cacao. Eating these will literally raise us to a high electrical frequency that allows other dimensional realities to be experienced, using the 97% of the brain we don’t use. Eating superfoods to assist with Ormus consumption is definitely the diet of choice for our new paradigm of higher consciousness evolution. The world of Ormus is huge and you can educate yourself on its many fascinating links with ancient history and future evolution by visiting a number of websites. One of the best is http://SubtleEnergies.com. Irlianna Samsara is known for her columns in Velocity on the mystical nature of films entitled, Cinema Samsara. Secrets For Living A High Velocity Life

the word on books>>>>> Just because guys don't run through the woods in packs drumming and howling anymore, does that mean the Men's Movement is dead? And what did we learn from it anyway? In The Truth about Men, men's coach, lawyer, and author Howard J. Fox takes a look at what men have learned from the Men's Movement and offers a handbook to help men become better husbands, fathers and income-earners, lead more balanced lives, and succeed in romance. Widespread programs to prevent violence toward women, and more consciousness about equality in the workplace are byproducts of the men's movement as much as the women's, but until now, advice on everyday family matters has been all too rare. That's where The Truth about Men comes in. The book gives a succinct definition of what makes a good man, a character type that some would argue is all too rare, and Fox's definition is likely to warm female hearts, since it includes listening to the woman in his life, making commitments, taking responsibility for fathering, even keeping the romance alive in relationships. The book also outlines the steps it takes for any man to become fully adult. The key, says Fox, is support from other men. "Women are usually in the forefront of encouraging men to be better," says Fox, "but just as men will never really understand what it's like to be a woman, only men can teach other men how to become a good man." Fox, a successful attorney as well as a men's coach, often counsels his clients to take a small portion of the money they would have spent on a divorce and use it to attend men's weekends instead. "Many, many men end up staying in their marriages once they do some of their men's work," he reports.

You Are What You Think by Richard Bartlett, DC, ND

Adapted from Matrix Energetics: The Science and Art of Transformation, ©2007, Atria Books/Beyond Words

YOU ARE WHAT YOU THINK. Everything that you have believed, accepted, experienced, and internalized comprises a vast matrix or grid that defines what I call your energetic signature. What you have learned forms the perceptual lens you use to subconsciously filter all of the information in your worldview. Your experience of your five senses makes up what you think of as your reality. In order to change something in that perceived reality territory, you must alter or change the arrangement of your thoughts and feelings. Trying to fit new knowledge into what you already think you know is not the best way to make a paradigmatic shift. I always assume that I don’t really “know” anything, which opens me to pay attention to what I might learn in the next moment.

Shifting the Matrix of Reality Through the Use of Questions. I like to ask myself a few key questions in the morning as part of a ritual that sets the state for my day. “What haven’t I thought of yet? What can I discover that will serve to confuse as well as enlighten me a little more today?” If you want to change your experience of your daily reality fare, come as you are, but finish your day having learned something new. Questions are one of the ways to do this consistently and elegantly. When you start to habitually ask open-ended questions of the universe, it starts to answer back, teaching you new things. When you change the way you observe and encode your reality, you are in effect changing the consciousness structure of the things that you choose to observe. You are becoming a co-creator in this new reality template you have begun to experience. By loosening up your old way of looking, you begin to actually see into and live this new domain. When you do this consistently, with a feeling of internal conviction and resolve, your experience of the so-called physical world and all of its pre-conditioning will begin to morph and change. In some cultures, this process describes the way of the Shaman, or Warrior of the Spirit.

Matrix Energetics is the Transformation of “Reality.” Einstein said that you can’t do the same thing in the same way and expect to get a different result. You have to go outside that linear pattern of habitual thinking and have a new thought, which you then apply to your perception of reality in order to get a different outcome. You have to paint outside of the line, or go outside of the box. Matrix Energetics is my attempt to make sense of the day Superman appeared in my office. Over time, his appearance transformed my entire concept of what reality actually is. Once I had been so transformed, I began to ask new types of questions of myself, and to order my perceptions and thought patterns in a new way. Then I had to make sense of the experiences that I was now having, and put into place some kind of philosophy or worldview that would be congruent with the experiences of my new state.

Be Careful How You Frame Questions.

If good questions can open new possibilities and transform your world, the same is true for negatively focused questions. Over time, you set up grids of energy in your subconscious awareness. These habitual patterns become the templates from which you manifest changes and events in your physical world. If you put enough mental and emotional energy into manifesting the things that you habitually worry about, you eventually start to manifest physically the fruit of your negative expectations and beliefs. Perhaps this is one reason why Job says in the Bible (and I paraphrase), “The thing which I have feared has come upon me.” One of our first tasks is to short-circuit this typical approach to medical problems, conditions, and even reality itself. By changing your reality template you begin to build a platform for new experiences of altered states.
