Mervin’s Gold-Medal Green Power Welcome to the World’s Most EnvironMENTAL Snowboard Factory! You don’t have to look far to see the results of global warming. With resorts struggling to cover their slopes and seasons cut short, climate change means less snow in the winter and less time on our snowboards. How do you do your part to make choices that are better for the environment? Just ask the board-making masterminds at Mervin; co-founders Mike Olson and Pete Saari have spent the past 30 years hand-building snowboards while developing “green” techniques that are the best for the environment and their crew. Look to the “EnvironMENTAL Division” headed by Norm Nelson and Mike Olson. Their sole mission is to fine-tune Mervin’s sustainable practices—whether it’s recycling every possible scrap of manufacturing material, developing a bean-based bio-plastic topsheet, or heating the factory with 100-percent Lib Tech biodiesel. Manufactured right here in the USA, our boards are built by a snowboarder/surfer/skateboarder labor force, ensuring maximum quality and complete control of working conditions. When it comes down to it, building a snowboard should be a labor of love, both for the crew and the environment.
1. We Recycle All Our Plastic Silkscreened base material can’t be recycled, so we use sublimation instead and properly recycle all of our excess base material. We use water-cleansed grinding systems to minimize airborne particulate levels, and have recycle bins for daily plastics, available for employees and local residents (since recycling has been discontinued residentially), various papers, aluminum, and glass.

Mervin doesn’t waste odd sized wood—we employ our finger joiner to utilize what would normally be throwaway core pieces. These cores are actually stronger at the joint than regular wood, resulting in almost no waste wood and poppy, powerful boards.
A soil and compost operation is conveniently located right next door to Mervin, which is where all our scrap wood ends up so it can be recycled as soil additive. We foster Fast-Growing Farmed Wood; for years, Mervin has devotedly used renewable, fastgrowing forest products for our cores!
Mike and Norm run a Lib Tech biodiesel co-op with a filling station next to the factory. This fuel heats our factory and runs many employees’ cars, as well as those of neighboring locals. Plus, the factory’s electricity is “green” power specially contracted from the local PUD (Public Utility District).

Mervin’s ExperiMENTAL Division Leader Mike Olson loves beans! When he’s not eating them, he’s turning them into bio-plastic topsheets. Mervin’s boards feature an innovative, earth-friendly bio-plastic top skin made from beans that features the highest strength-to-weight ratio of any topsheet in the industry.
We use the safest possible epoxy resin systems with minimal VOCs (volatile organic compounds), as well as soy-based elastomer on our sidewalls instead of toxic ABS. And forget harmful solvents—we clean house with citrus-based solvents instead!

Instead of silkscreening, Mervin sublimates their graphics, which eliminates the need for the cancercausing, toxic automotive-lacquer gloss coats you see on many shiny snowboard top sheets.

Award winning technology, the patented C2 BananaTraction, C2 BTX, is a blend of the best snowboard technology on the planet. The main ingredients are Banana Technology (reverse camber only between the feet) combined with Magnetraction (wavy, serrated edges) and a healthy dose of C2 Power Banana (camber on the tip and tail from the feet out). It’s the perfect cocktail of progressive technology that allows riders to shred any terrain with complete confidence. Made especially for strong riders, the C2 BTX is poppy, smooth, and delivers end-to-end stability and predictability at high speeds. The result is a versatile snowboard for confident riding on hardpack and ice, floating in powder, and playing in the park.
The best of two worlds come together with EC2. We started with Banana (reverse camber) between the bindings, added elliptical camber on the tip and tail, and mixed in the magic ingredient, Magnetraction (serrated edges). Banana adds more pop and keeps you up off your edges for quick edge-to-edge transfer. Elliptical camber is sloped like angel wings (not radial), providing not too much or too little, but just the right amount of camber for grip and flow. It’s the ultimate blend for all-mountain riding.
Proving itself year after year in magazine board tests, Patented Banana Traction Technology replaces camber with reverse camber between the feet, and flat, or no camber from the feet out. The board’s rockered mid-section is a natural turning arc that flattens out under the rider’s weight, providing full nose-to-tail edge contact. The flex pattern includes a slightly stiffer nose and tail for stable landings, increased pop, and float-ability in deep powder. Magnetraction integrates with Banana Technology to boost edge hold in all conditions. Together, Banana and Magnetraction (Banana Traction) put control where it should be, directly underfoot. The result? A fun and playful board that slays powder, handles the hardpack like it’s on cruise control, works rails and boxes with ease, and maintains liveliness run after run.

Our bodies are asymmetrical, why shouldn’t our boards be? Let’s talk body mechanics. Picture yourself in a toe side turn. You keep your weight centered by using your toes and changing the angles of your knees and ankles. Your heels don’t have this dexterity; in a heelside turn you bend your knees, lean back, and stick your butt out, putting your weight off center. Pickle Tech compensates for our body mechanics. It has a deeper sidecut on the heel edge, allowing the board to engage sooner and turn easier. One third of the core closest to the heel edge is a different, softer, and lighter wood for smooth transitions and a balanced feel. The only difference you’ll notice is that snowboarding feels easier. Asymmetry is not new to snowboarding, but with Pickle Tech it’s been perfected! Balance through asymmetry, whether riding forward or switch, is smoother, easier, and a lot more fun.
Get a grip with the edge hold and control that you deserve. MAGNETRACTION works like a bread knife, cutting more efficiently than a straight edge because of the serration. Apply this idea to the snow. The wavy Magnetraction edges enable the board to grip and hold better in all conditions. Get next level confidence and agility on ice and hard pack, as well as any situation where you need to trust your edges— icy slopes, cat tracks, traverses, superpipe walls, kicker runways, and early morning crust. For those who can’t get enough of the park, Magnetraction has a freestyle advantage— you can de-tune your edges for jibbing or rails and still have superior edge hold all over the mountain.
This technology combines a traditional radial sidecut with reverse camber between the bindings and no camber on the tip and tail. This is great technology for beginner and intermediate riders who are linking turns at slower speeds. Banana provides the free flowing love of catch-free riding at an entry-level price.

Fibers Vectran Fiber: A strong, lightweight liquid-crystal polymer that has exceptional strength-to-weight ratio, providing outstanding vibration dampening and high impact resistance. Quasi-isotropic Fiberglass: Triax top glass wraps around the core, bonding to biaxial bottom glass to create a torsion box of strength and response for maximum pop and control. Biaxial Fiberglass: Two-way fiberglass orientation that is forgiving and fun.

Tune All our boards are MADE IN THE USA by our snowboarder/surfer/skateboarder workforce and tuned with a smooth factory finish and One Ball Jay wax prior to shipping.
Directional Twin: Between the contact points the board measures a true twin, but the nose above the contact point is slightly higher and longer than the tail. This allows the board to float in powder or choppy snow and still feel consistent when riding switch.
LN: Less Narrow waist widths: Slightly wider waist widths than your average women’s board, for girls who want or need little more foot room in a board designed for a woman’s shape and core flex It’s also great for any freestylers looking for Cadillac turns and stompability.
