DWD 2014 2015

Page 1

DInoSaurs WIlL DIE 2014/2015 What EVERY 2014/15 Dinosaurs Will Die snowboard has: * Sandwich construction * Poplar wood core with two birch strips along the inserts from tip to tail (For the 2014/15 season we have eliminated WDT from the line) * Full wrap metal edges * Stainless steel inserts * ABS standard 30 degree sidewalls * Factory edge tuning * Screen printed sidewalls * All Dinosaurs Will Die snowboards are manufactured in Austria

Glossary: * Lowrider camber: Regular camber that is between traditional camber height and flat camber. Perfect for the rider loves traditional camber, but is looking to try something that is a little bit different. Or the rider that went reverse and wants to try camber again for the first time * Flat camber: Exactly what it sounds like. Flat camber is a best of both worlds choice. The Goldilocks of cambers…‘Just right’ * Reverse camber: Because of feed back from the DWD team, all DWD reverse cambers are slightly less than most brands to prevent washing out and maintain stability at higher speeds * Hybrid camber 1: Utilizing two camber technologies. ‘Hybrid camber 1’ is regular camber between the inserts and flat camber extending from the inserts to the tip and tail, with the slightest amount of reverse at the contact points * Hybrid camber 2: Utilizing two camber technologies. ‘Hybrid camber 2’ is regular camber between the inserts and reverse camber extending from the inserts to the contact points * Flat bank tips: Unlike the continuous radius that is on most of our boards, the flat camber maintains the same angle after it’s initial radius at the contact point * Extruded base: A cost efficient base that is very easy to repair if any damages occur. * Sintered base: A lighter base material that is highly durable and proves very fast when maintained with waxing on a regular basis.

The BRAT What’s new?

The core has been switched from WDT (Wood Derivative Technology) to a Poplar wood core. The amount of reverse camber is less than in the past. Consistent with the changes made to the RAT two seasons ago, we toned down the amount of reverse camber in the Brat to help eliminate wash out and maintain stability at higher speeds.

What’s tried and true?

This board is still a soft flexing board aimed at light riders (ie. women and kids).

The graphic story:

This is a graphic that we’ve had on our minds for a little while. Collaborating on the idea with Jesse Williams (past Kwon artist) we developed the amusement park theme. The top sheet has a classic wooden rollercoaster scene (just like the one that Jeff and Sean grew up riding at the PNE fair grounds in Vancouver, BC). Kindred to your favorite side run at your local hill, it’s a fast, crazy, wild ride… and it’s fun as hell! The base is inspired by the “you must be this tall to ride’ signs that we were all two inches to short to ride at one point or another. Fuck those signs.

mAeT What’s new?

The maeT is a new mold for the 14/15 season. It has a new, mid wide, waist width. It loses the WDT core from the previous season and acquires a poplar wood core with birch strips.

What’s tried and true?

Although it still retains a traditional camber profile, we have adjusted it to the Lowrider camber.

The graphic story:

Last season was the kick off of working with riders and crews that fully embrace our same vision of snowboarding culture. We feel that these like-minded individuals deserve a canvas (or 150cm’ish billboard) to spread their word! For the 14/15 season we’re spotlighting the DOPE INDUSTRIES crew. Headed by snowboarding video genius and ‘core snowboarding amateur’ Dave Brockelbank, they are a notorious bunch that LOVE snowboarding (with their friends), hanging out (with their friends) and filming for video projects (with their friends)… no matter what it takes. Brockel and the rest of the crew wanted a graphic that represented the gritty life they love, so a topsheet with cigarettes spread tip to tail is what happened! DOPE has a very strong logo that they run on all of their products, so that became the center focus for the base, along with the new DWD ‘Scar’ logo and two cigarettes to form an X between the logos. DWD x DOPE in 2014/15! For more of a look at what DOPE INDUSTRIES is about, check out their video, DOPE, DOPE II, and DOPE III on Itunes and youtube.

The RAT What’s new?

If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. This model has come out on top in the reverse camber game. We’re proud as hell of it!

What’s tried and true?

The mellowed out reverse camber from the past two seasons has proven to be exactly what the RAT needed. It’s a jib board that holds it’s own in the powder on any day.

The graphic story:

The same way that we bit into the reverse camber trend years ago, the RAT has always been a bite graphic and the 14/15 graphic is no different. What’s more is the 14/15 RAT is based off of a popular RAT-trap that many of you might be familiar with. This years’ graphic strays away from the predominantly black topsheet of the past two seasons, but keeps the theme with the RAT character on the topsheet again and a bright base with bold DINOSAURS WILL DIE text.

WIzArd StIck What’s new?

We’ve blended old and new! The shape is what defines this board. There’s nothing better than riding something that looks cool, and sometimes that doesn’t just mean the graphic on the same old looking board. This shape is going to make people automatically think that it’s a powder board. They’re wrong. This is NOT a tapered board. This is NOT a board with a short little tail. This is NOT a powder specific snowboard. This IS a freestyle snowboard that will excel in powder conditions. Take a quick trip down memory lane and remember that the forefathers of the freestyle movement in snowboarding were riding boards that looked much like this. Combine that retro shape with today’s freestyle technologies and we have something completely new on our hands! But, for those that just can’t ignore it, and to help make it harder for people to wrap their mind around this being a free-mountain-all-style board, we’ve added some extra inserts set way back so you CAN rip it on those inevitably awesome pow days! The Wizard Stick is also our second model in our first season with hybrid cambers. Keeping with combining old and new, with the ‘hybrid camber 2’ we’ve combined the pop and responsiveness that you expect from traditional camber and the forgiving, easy ride that you’ve come accustom to if you’ve been riding reverse camber. We’ve focused the camber in the middle of the board and extended the reverse camber from the outside of the inserts to the tips. What’s tried and true? There is nothing tried and true about this model except the material that it is made of. We’re excited to be heading into the unknown with this one! The graphic story: Picture yourself ripping laps in slushy spring time snow, riding side hits and getting sideways on a couple of jibs in the park, and probably snatching a beer you have stashed in the woods in between laps; this is the inspiration for this graphic. Good times drinking beer and doin’ stupid shit with your friends. Like playing a drinking game where you try to drink your height in beer, only then to dub yourself with the imaginary status of wizard… who does that, right? (We have a lot of marketing plans based around this model in particular.) Main specs: Sizes produced for production: Style: Camber: Flex:

SIxtIes What’s new?

This entire model!!! We’ve busted the 160 cm barrier… hold on tight! With our tall ass OG Dino, Andrew Geeves, back on board, it was time to take that plunge and save him from having to take the powder plunge over the nose of his ‘little’ 159 cm board, again, and again, and again. Thanks for you patience with this one everybody!

What’s tried and true?

Although this is a new model in the line, it reflects a lot of Andrew’s input and it very much resembles the Kwon from last season (13/14), just bigger. Lowrise camber and an all mountain board built on a freestyle chasis!

The graphic story:

With a board series that is going to involve only boards in the one sixty range, what better name than just that… the Sixties. It also posed a challenge that we wanted to take on. Snowboarding is no stranger to 1960’s inspired themes, but for the most part it is only the LSD, hippy, tie-dye, graphics that you see. We want to take this opportunity to do what we do with most everything else, and dig a little deeper. What else inspiring and amazing was happening in the 1960s and how can we put our spin on it? Long and short of it, there is no lack of material! For this first inaugural offering we get our inspiration from the late Ed Roth, a 1960’s illustrator most known for his character, Rat Fink, and the Weird-oh’s series. He was deeply involved in the custom hot rod culture during the 1960s as well. Just as his Weird-oh’s series depicted oversized monsters driving small hot rods, we’re just big kids riding these little toys we call snowboards.

BogArt What’s new?

Big Mike, aka Zeach Man, worked with Ben Bogart on this seasons’ graphic.

What’s tried and true?

Flat camber, mid flex, and sintered base for the ultimate A.T.B. (All Terrain Board).

The graphic story:

Ben worked with Big Mike, AKA Zeachman to create his promodel graphic for 14/15. For those of you unaware of what a Brass Monkey is, it is a simple mixture of beer (preferably Old English Brand) and Orange juice. To specify, you get a 40oz. bottle of beer (aka a ‘Forty’), drink it until the beer is at the same level as the top of the label on the bottle (this is also the most opportune time to ‘pour one for the Homies’) and then top up the bottle with orange juice… voila! You’ve concocted a Brass Monkey. This is Ben’s thirst quencher of choice. Ben wanted a graphic that incorporated this mixture along with his love for his friends. On the topsheet is a Brass Monkey with the staple Bogart graphic (gold teeth and BB initials) sitting on top of a pile of empty forties and orange juice containers. What’s more is the base has the Brass Monkey’s paw pouring out some for the homies down the entire length of the board. This board is Ben’s shout out and show of respect for ALL of the homies that are out there doin’ what they love.

Genovese What’s new?

This years’ graphic collaborates with Geno’s #WanderingMurderOfFutureDeads illustration series and is available in eight different limited edition top sheets.

What’s tried and true?

This board is exactly what Geno rides, no need to substitute if you want that one board to do it all.

The graphic story:

For the entire time DWD has been in existence we have received ‘sticker requests’ from kids. Jeff and Sean both fulfill these requests personally. Since the beginning Sean has been writing personal notes and adding drawings to these mail-outs. At some point early in 2013 these drawings took on a distinct style and Sean gave them the name #WanderingMurderOfFutureDeads. The idea behind the name is that these characters are a gang of evolved lizard/dinosaur/bird/humans (aka Future Deads) that wander the globe and are constantly DOING things. They embrace the saying, “You are defined by your actions”. At this time there are close to 100 Future Deads in the series and it continues to grow. With that volume as our inspiration we decided to make each size of this board available in eight different topsheets! They hold a steady theme on the tip and tail, with a different Future Dead between the bindings. These topsheets will be completely miscellaneous and will not be able to be specially requested. The base is the same on all models. To see all of the illustration series so far, check out the hashtag #WanderingMurderOfFutureDeads on instagram.

Kwon What’s new?

The Kwon gets a makeover in the camber department and becomes one of DWD’s first offering to the hybrid camber catagory. The type of Hybrid that we’re using in this board is based off of the idea of trying to harness the energy and responsiveness between the feet that traditional camber snowboard produces, but not kick your ass at the contact points. Think smarter, not harder!

What’s tried and true?

Even with this switch to hybrid/double camber it maintains an all mountain FREESTYLE board at its foundation. Jeff rides the side-country and back-country with an eye that was inspired by the mid 90’s freestyle movement and believes in being able to ride the ENTIRE mountain as the natural snowboard park that it is. This demands a board that is responsive enough to get you down a technical chute or pillow line, but playful enough to press a log or jib a tree that may also be in a line.

The graphic story:

Teaming up again for 14/15, Jeff developed this graphic with our close friend, Jesse Williams. Jesse has done the past two Kwon graphics and now the 14/15 Brat, as seen earlier. (He’s been involved for so long now that he is definitely a DWD family member!) When you’re out on your snowmobile, or trudging through the woods with your friends in the middle of winter, it’s hard not to think that this might have been what it was like in the wild-west era of the American cowboys. We can imagine that the peace and solidarity experienced on the open range was much like the gratifying feeling we all get when we’re out in the backcountry. Parallel to this, the saloons full of debauchery and good times that were awaiting them in the nearest township are like our nearest lodge or chalet bar! No stranger to all of the above, Jeff used that as his inspiration while developing the concept for his 14/15 promodel.
