open living area. Calm and cosy contemporary living space.
I had a blank canvas for this project to design the spaces which consisted of two bedrooms, and a living and dining area. My client wanted a space that felt comfortable with a contemporary feel, that their clients could throughly enjoy whilst visiting West London.

From left to right you can see the entrance hallway that transitions into the open living and dining area, which then moves into the master bedroom. I decided to add a console that had an industrial feel about it as it would add character to the entrance hallway as I wanted something that would subtly catch the eye of those who walk into the apartment.

2 the water front Nine Elms, London.
The Water Front is a residential and hospitality project with sustainability at its core focus. This new take on senior living offers a unique experience that is luxurious and welcoming. It is located in Nine Elms, London and situated alongside the River Thames. The aim is to provide a home where seniors can live out their twilight years to the fullest.
16
site analysis Senior living residential design.
It is situated in the great location of Nine Elms, where you will be provided with the best views of the River Thames and the city of London. There is a large variety of local shops and transportation within walking distance. Also Battersea Park is close by. Building type: Senior living residence Location: Cringle Dock Solid Waste Transfer Station, Cringle Street, London, United Kingdom Neighborhood: Nine Elms Site area: 36,400 sf There have been many proposals for Battersea Power Station. However, many of these have fallen through. The Power Station is now under construction. The whole neighborhood is being renovated, while the original great architecture is being preserved. The area surrounding it is being transformed into a completely new neighborhood with an abundance of local conveniences: an extended train line service, residences and shops. This transformation is what made me choose this up and coming area in the city of London.

the ground floor Walkway.
The walk way is situated next to the lobby, which leads you towards the health Centre and other community spaces such as the bar & lounge. This area creates a space that is tranquil and calming for those who pass through it.

For the main entrance, I created an open floor plan to allow for a flowing circulation. Illuminated signage creates a focal point which grabs the visitor’s attention to help with way finding. Both the wall behind the reception desk and the chandelier use a wave like pattern, which resembles a river’s flow. These elements contribute to the relaxing ambiance within the space.
Colour Palette
ground floor Bar & Lounge.
The Bar and lounge provides an area that allows the residents to meet up with family and friends on a daily basis. This area is sophisticated in terms of its decor, which allows its residents to feel classy and elegant upon entry. Also the open space allows for great ventilation and has a stunning view of the River Thames.
Materials Palette
26
second floor Independent bathroom.
For the bathroom, I designed a floating sink that has knee clearance for wheel chair access. The walk in shower has a hidden handrail within the wall to aid those in need for assistance when standing. The shower is equipped with a seat, and emits misting water that saves 70% more water when turned on. The walls have reclaimed wood that have been stained grey and have a recycled glass covering over the top, which is sealed to protect from condensation.
28
second floor Independent living.
Materials Palette

The independent living units are open planned. However, the Satin glass partition between the bedroom and kitchen creates a sense of privacy between the two areas. Using a neutral colour palette with a shade of blue helps to create a calm living environment. As it is important and healthy to be outside, I designed larger sized balconies to help encourage the residence to go outside more often.
Materials Palette
second floor Assisted living.
For the assisted living units, I created a neutral colour scheme. As these units will cater to those with physical and mental illnesses, diseases and disabilities, it was important that the colours and patterns in the room would not trigger any behaviors that might put the residents and employees in danger. Sensory overload caused by patterns, colours, sounds and light can be triggers. Therefore, it was important to take these into consideration. The partition panel is clear plastic, which is safer for the assisted residents.
Materials Palette
32
Within the kitchenette, I have added a floating sink with wheel chair knee clearance so everyone can access the sink at ease. The handles on the cabinets are long so that people of all heights can comfortably open them without difficulty.

Here are a few sketches from my project (from top left to right). The first sketch is an ornament found within the bar, and the second is the chandelier above the bar area. The third sketch is found in the entrance, and the forth sketch of a chandelier is situated above the seating in the lobby. Last is a sketch of the rooftop, showing the pool house and pool area.

The Manor park residency started off as a dark and cramped two bedroom house. It has since been transformed into to a 3 bedroom home that utilizes its full potential. The space, functionality and finishes have been changed, which has overall improved the interior. Rewiring, plumbing and a change of layout has taken place as it was necessary so that we could reach the full potential of the property. As a Designer I wanted to create a space that opens up the home with more light as it was very dark at the back of the house. My client is a young creative that is maturing into his industry quickly, with a family of his own he needed a space that can comfortably cater for his growing family. Therefore my client wanted to have a more open living style as they like to entertain along with transforming the front room into a downstairs bedroom. This led me to create a space that would adapt to my clients needs.
Open living area A space for the whole family to enjoy.

After Photographs
Here you can see that I have transformed the open living space into a much more welcoming space that now allows for an abundance of light to enter in and allows for more freedom to move around in. In the Before photographs (above) you can see that the kitchen, dining and bathroom were once situated at the back of the house. The layout did not allow for a lot of light to enter in, also there was no view of the garden, which I decided to change.
Therefore I decided to rearrange the layout by moving both the kitchen and bathroom into the centre of the ground floor. This allowed for there to be a living area at the back of the house with a view of the garden. Also I added in an island into the kitchen area, which is a great element for entertaining guests, along with everyday family life. Also I added in a sky light so that we could maximize the amount of natural light let in to the living space. Lastly I had tall radiators installed so that they minimize any obstructions for furniture.

The kitchen had a limited space so it was important for me to design it so that my client could utilize ever inch. I decided to create a U shaped kitchen so that there was more counter top space that doubled up as a breakfast bar. I also added in subway tiles and a concrete textured counter top. As my client loves Shoreditch House I thought that this would help to bring some character to the space, along with keeping to a minimalist feel within the space. For the bathroom I decided to design the bathroom layout based on a traditional hotel bathroom design as it allows for you to move around within the space easily. This was great as the space we had to utilise was very small. For the tiles I selected a Spanish Concrete tile as it is contemporary in style and easy to clean, which is perfect for a family environment.

The down stairs living room has now been converted into a 3rd bedroom to cater for my clients growing family. I decided to change the access of the room along with rebuilding an internal wall which once opened in to the corridor of the main entrance. By making these changes it has allowed for more privacy so that the old living room can now be used as a bedroom. Now there is a third bedroom this adds value to my clients home for both occupancy and selling purposes.

The bedrooms have been fitted with new carpet, freshly painted walls and ceilings. Along with tall and slender radiators, which have been installed to allow for the space to be utilized in a better way. The old radiators once protruded into each bedroom which largely effected the layout, limiting where you could place furniture with in the spaces.

4 National geographic office San Francisco, Essex, England. California.
The National Geographic office is a commercial project design combined with both an office, exhibition space, cafe and store situated in the Presidio of San Francisco.
50
National geographic Commercial Project. The National Geographic society (Nat Geo) is a non-profit scientific and educational organization that has been exploring and protecting the planet since 1888. They are dedicated to exploring our planet, protecting wildlife and habitats, and helping assure that students of the next generation are geographically literate. National Geographic has a platform that consists of photography, film, a television channel, magazines, childerns media, statistics, maps, journalists and consumer products. All which share the findings of Nat Geo’s scientists and explorers. Nat Geo relies heavily on generous donations to fund their work in research, education, and conservation around the world. However, they also sponsor and fund scientific research and exploration. The Society publishes a journal, National Geographic in English and nearly 40 local-language editions. Its education foundation gives grants to education organizations and individuals to improve geography education. Its committee for Research and Exploration has awarded more than 11,000 grants for scientific research and exploration. National Geographic’s various media properties reach more than 280 million people monthly. The society believes in the power of science, exploration and storytelling to change the world, and its purpose is to inspire, illuminate and teach. For the project I aim to create an office space that caters for all the different fields that Nat Geo exploits. Its important to design a collective unit that will work cohesively as there are so many different areas within the society. Its important for me to create a unity within the office as the organization is about sharing and educating people about our planet. Therefore, I choose exploration for my concept idea as it is what all the fields under Nat Geo have in common. Exploration is the action of traveling in or through an unfamiliar area in order to learn about it. Therefore, I am going to use the concept of exploration throughout my project so that I can create an experience within the office that makes the employees and visitors feel as though they are exploring just like Nat Geo’s own expeditionists get to explore around the world. Overall, I want to create a design which reflects the impact that Nat Geo has had on the world. As well as use exploration to create an interactive experience.

I have used a variety of materials for the lobby, such as Pine heart wood, concrete and VOC free paint. As these are sustainable materials they can contribute towards LEED points which would help towards having a more sustainable building and less of a negative impact on the environment.
