1 the water front Nine Elms, London.
The Water Front is a residential and hospitality project with sustainability as its core focus. This new take on senior living offers a unique experience that is luxurious and welcoming. It is located in Nine Elms, London and situated alongside the River Thames. The aim is to provide a home where seniors can live out their twilight years to the fullest.

site analysis Senior living residential design.
It is situated in the great location of Nine Elms, where you will be provided with the best views of the River Thames and the city of London. There is a large variety of local shops and transportation within walking distance. Also Battersea Park is close by. Building type: Senior living residence Location: Cringle Dock Solid Waste Transfer Station, Cringle Street, London, United Kingdom Neighborhood: Nine Elms Site area: 36,400 sf There have been many proposals for Battersea Power Station. However, many of these have fallen through. The Power Station is now under construction. The whole neighborhood is being renovated, while the original great architecture is being preserved. The area surrounding it is being transformed into a completely new neighborhood with an abundance of local conveniences: an extended train line service, residences and shops. This transformation is what made me choose this up and coming area in the city of London.

the ground floor Walkway.
The walk way is situated next to the lobby, which leads you towards the health Centre and other community spaces such as the bar & lounge. This area creates a space that is tranquil and calming for those who pass through it.

For the main entrance, I created an open floor plan to allow for a flowing circulation. Illuminated signage creates a focal point which grabs the visitor’s attention to help with way finding. Both the wall behind the reception desk and the chandelier use a wave like pattern, which resembles a river’s flow. These elements contribute to the relaxing ambiance within the space.

ground floor Bar & Lounge.
The Bar and lounge provides an area that allows the residents to meet up with family and friends on a daily basis. This area is sophisticated in terms of its decor, which allows its residents to feel classy and elegant upon entry. Also the open space allows for great ventilation and has a stunning view of the River Thames.

24
second floor Independent bathroom.
For the bathroom, I designed a floating sink that has knee clearance for wheel chair access. The walk in shower has a hidden handrail within the wall to aid those in need for assistance when standing. The shower is equipped with a seat, and emits misting water that saves 70% more water when turned on. The walls have reclaimed wood that have been stained grey and have a recycled glass covering over the top, which is sealed to protect from condensation.

The independent living units are open planned. However, the Satin glass partition between the bedroom and kitchen creates a sense of privacy between the two areas. Using a neutral colour palette with a shade of blue helps to create a calm living environment. As it is important and healthy to be outside, I designed larger sized balconies to help encourage the residence to go outside more often.
Materials Palette
second floor Assisted living.
For the assisted living units, I created a neutral colour scheme. As these units will cater to those with physical and mental illnesses, diseases and disabilities, it was important that the colours and patterns in the room would not trigger any behaviors that might put the residents and employees in danger. Sensory overload caused by patterns, colours, sounds and light can be triggers. Therefore, it was important to take these into consideration. The partition panel is clear plastic, which is safer for the assisted residents.

Within the kitchenette, I have added a floating sink with wheel chair knee clearance so everyone can access the sink at ease. The handles on the cabinets are long so that people of all heights can comfortably open them without difficulty.

lounge & Dining A place to entertain ones guests.
For the lounge, I have created a space that accommodates both leisure and play. The pool table is at the heart of the home, across from the tea area. I decided to incorporate a pool table into the room, as it is great for entertaining. Within the tea area I have used traditional Tatami mats by lighting them up from underneath. This gives the room a relaxed ambiance that will allow my client to enjoy it peacefully.
42
For the dining room, I created a fireplace which features a brick wall. This oversized fireplace gives the space character. I decided to balance out the area with two big dome shaped pendant lamps made from chrome. The large window opens up the room to a stunning view of the city.
the master With en Suite.
The Master bedroom captures the essence of Japanese culture through its design. The Tatami mats tie the spaces together throughout the apartment. The painting above the bed also caters to my client’s love for art. The mirror above the bed has been mounted onto the ceiling. I am most excited about this feature, as it is sleek in style and unique.
44
En suitE Bathroom.
Throughout the apartment, I continued to use dark wood, and use light to illuminate various objects, such as the cabinets in the bathroom. I decided to use marble for the Japanese soaking tub, as it really adds a sense of luxury to the bathroom. Ultimately, I want my client to enjoy living in the space that I have designed for them. It was important for me to create harmony throughout each space, as I wanted the Japanese concept to simply flow throughout the residence, creating a styled yet tranquil and peaceful environment to live in.

The Market Hall is a retail project of a market place that is created to connect local people with farm fresh produce while providing them with a high-end shopping experience.

Forage & hive. Concept, client & project information.
The Honey Bee is the concept for this project. The colonial dynamic of the beehive is similar to that of the urban environment. The Honeybee is a social type of bee as they live in complex societies like the urban environment, where people work together to make a living. We are similar to the honeybee as we thrive off of socializing and work together on a daily basis. As bees live in a hive, this gave me the idea to name the market Forage & Hive, as it is a place to buy groceries and socialize. The word forage means to search widely for food or provisions, which describes grocery shopping in the 21st century. My client Tony Riviera is a successful entrepreneur. He wants to create an approachable high quality food market, which sells local produce. He wishes to cater to the local residence and workers around the area. As it is high end this encourages more wealthy white-collar workers to buy here. Although it is a market place there will be a restaurant, and a variety of prepared foods. My client plans to make a large income on these items. Tony is a food fanatic and has fallen in love with Italian food. In fact, the food sold here will be mostly Italian and American. A pizza oven is to be installed as well as a deli providing the finest cheeses and meats. There is also a sushi stand, bakery, champagne and oyster bar, a coffee stand and a gelato bar.

Within the market area, I have created a feature wall as a focal point to draw shoppers into the store. I have wrapped the walls in a light wood so that the space feels open and comfortable. Also the wood material gives an emphasis on the food, as it is organic. I have continued the use of this wood throughout the interior space so that there is a good flow through out.

The Market hall & Prepared foods.
Moving through the space you enter into the prepared foods area. I created a simple layout so that customers can move around efficiently and stress free. Chalk menu boards have been installed to add character and playfulness to the design. This helps to achieve a approachable environment also.
open kitchen & order station.
The open kitchen has a copper covered pizza oven at the heart of it, which draws you into the space. The open kitchen allows customers to interact with the chefs as they prepare their food; this provides a more intimate experience for customers while they wait for their orders.
The restaurant & Oyster bar.
The restaurant provides an area for people to socialise, eat and have business meetings. The restaurant incorporates a wine bar, seating area and oyster and champagne bar. It was important to break up the space so that customers have more options, which makes the restaurant more entertaining for its customers.

4 National geographic office San Francisco, Essex, England. California.
The National Geographic office is a commercial project design combined with both an office, exhibition space, cafe and store situated in the Presidio of San Francisco.
64
National geographic Commercial Project. The National Geographic society (Nat Geo) is a non-profit scientific and educational organization that has been exploring and protecting the planet since 1888. They are dedicated to exploring our planet, protecting wildlife and habitats, and helping assure that students of the next generation are geographically literate. National Geographic has a platform that consists of photography, film, a television channel, magazines, childerns media, statistics, maps, journalists and consumer products. All which share the findings of Nat Geo’s scientists and explorers. Nat Geo relies heavily on generous donations to fund their work in research, education, and conservation around the world. However, they also sponsor and fund scientific research and exploration. The Society publishes a journal, National Geographic in English and nearly 40 local-language editions. Its education foundation gives grants to education organizations and individuals to improve geography education. Its committee for Research and Exploration has awarded more than 11,000 grants for scientific research and exploration. National Geographic’s various media properties reach more than 280 million people monthly. The society believes in the power of science, exploration and storytelling to change the world, and its purpose is to inspire, illuminate and teach. For the project I aim to create an office space that caters for all the different fields that Nat Geo exploits. Its important to design a collective unit that will work cohesively as there are so many different areas within the society. Its important for me to create a unity within the office as the organization is about sharing and educating people about our planet. Therefore, I choose exploration for my concept idea as it is what all the fields under Nat Geo have in common. Exploration is the action of traveling in or through an unfamiliar area in order to learn about it. Therefore, I am going to use the concept of exploration throughout my project so that I can create an experience within the office that makes the employees and visitors feel as though they are exploring just like Nat Geo’s own expeditionists get to explore around the world. Overall, I want to create a design which reflects the impact that Nat Geo has had on the world. As well as use exploration to create an interactive experience.

Level 2 The second floor is private from the general public as it is for the employees of National Geographic. Although it is open to those with a business invitation such as prospective employees. The second floor has a variety of private offices, a studio, two conference rooms, a break room and an open office as well as restrooms and a reception area.
First floor The lobby & store.
The lobby view (on the right) shows the reception area and the entrance to the exhibtion. The tunnel to the exhibition creates a feel for discovery which links in with the concept of exploration. I have used a variety of materials for both the lobby and store (below), such as Pine heart wood, concrete and VOC free paint. As these are sustainable materials they can contribute towards LEED points.

Second floor The open work space.
The Open work space is equipped with ergonomic office systems. Towards the centre of the office, there is a small area that encourages collaborations between employees that allows them to get away from their desks from time to time.
