About Our Magazine In Real Family Travel Magazine, we embrace a sense of authenticity in our articles because we accept stories from writers from all around the world. In doing so, we acknowledge the different spellings and grammatical preferences associated with the English of various contributors' regions.. We spell words like "color" and "flavor" without the extra "u" in the USA, but some of our international writers include it. So rather than a "one size fits all" approach to editing, we’ve decided that we won’t change their spelling to be like "ours", and we won’t adjust ours to match theirs. There will be times when we break grammar or spelling rules that would make our high school English teachers cringe or include articles that have a more personal or conversational feel. We aren't like other magazines and we like it this way. Having genuine stories written by amazing people, not necessarily professional writers, is more aligned with the core values of Real Family Travel Magazine than strictly adhering to editorial guidelines. We hope you appreciate this about our magazine as we bring you REAL stories by REAL families about REAL travels around the globe.

Editor's Letter – April 2013 One fourth of 2013 is already done! Can you believe it? Have you had a chance to check off any travel goals yet? Our issue this month may have you adding a few more destinations to your list. Laura Ingalls Wilder fans will enjoy getting to know DeSmet, SD, the place where she spent The Long Winter. Military history buffs will enjoy the article on Normandy, France. If you've dreamt of seeing Alaska, you'll find some tips on things to do there. If camping is more your speed, we've got some suggestions on how to camp with your kids, as well as some fun spring travel tips. Then, takeoff your shoes for a wet hike through the Congaree National Park in South Carolina. You'll see what I mean in the video. :o) Lainie Liberti of RaisingMiro.com is our inspirational interviewee this month. Lainie is a great example of someone who saw an opportunity to change her (and her son's) life and took it.

This month's issue is dedicated to the memory of my dad, George P. Trotter. In his lifetime, he traveled to every continent except Antarctica and had many stories to tell about all the different places he went. Now you know where I get a little of my crazy dreams from. His passing reinforces my desire to live a full life and share it with those who mean the most to me: my husband and children. My hope, with every issue, is that one story, one video, one family gets you excited about travel and pushes you to just GO!
