REALITIES FOR CHILDREN

Realities For Children is an alliance of local businesses whose mission is to provide for the unmet needs of children who have been abused, neglected, or are at-risk by uniting local businesses, youth agencies, and the community in collaborative and mutually beneficial service.

The underwriting support of the Business Members allows Realities For Children Charities to operate without expenses. This ensures that 100% of every donation directly benefits programs and services for the children we serve.

Partnered in service with local youth agencies, Realities For Children has created a safety net of services for children in our community who have faced abuse, neglect, or are at-risk.

Realities For Children service model supports children from entry into the system and throughout their healing process. To do so we provide three essential legs of service.

The first leg of service requires we identify and meet the immediate, unmet and emergency needs provided within 60 minutes of a request so that no child in need is forgotten.

The second leg requires effective support services once emergency needs have been met so that the healing process along the path of recovery can begin.

The third leg focuses on provision of services that equip, support and provide resources so that as children emancipate from the system they are empowered to break the cycle of abuse.

Realities For Children provides for the emergency and ongoing support needs of children in Northern Colorado who have been abused, neglected, or are at-risk.

As we are greeted by the New Year, there is always a moment that we look back on the past year in reflection. Inevitably, this opportunity fades very quickly as the responsibilities and expectations of the year at hand become a priority. In my role as the Executive Director of Realities For Children Charities, when I look back, my most cherished thoughts are of the many young lives we have been able to provide for and the people we surround ourselves with that have made this life changing support possible. This year is one of significant reflection as it marks our 30th anniversary of providing hope and healing for children who have been abused, neglected or are at-risk in Northern Colorado.

30 years of community collaboration with amazing volunteers, donors, youth agencies, business leaders and community members that have helped generations of children when there was nowhere else to turn. This Directory features nearly 270 local business leaders that have chosen to make it part of their business to make a difference. Every service, program and emergency resource we provide is made possible because of the Business Members of Realities For Children. I encourage you to choose to work with these businesses whenever you need their services and doing so you become part of our family of support for children in need.

As we look at this last year it is inspiring to see that as a community united we have been able to significantly extend our reach providing Emergency Services for 5,345 children, Youth Activities for 1,936 children, free access to our Youth Campus for 3,636 children and guardians, and provided for 10,379 children through our Item Distribution programs.

As we continue to grow to meet the needs of at-risk youth, we invite you to visit our website to learn more about our mission and find ways you can help us serve those in need.

After 30 years of dedicated service, I am beyond grateful to be part of this compassionate community that helps us to see that no child is forgotten. Wishing you and yours a wonderful year ahead.

NATIONAL CHILD ABUSE PREVENTION MONTH HIGHLIGHT REALITIES FOR CHILDREN

The month of April is nationally recognized as “Child Abuse Awareness Month.” This is the month we present our “Plant a Pinwheel” outreach to raise awareness of a societal issue that is unfortunately pervasive. The pinwheel is used as a means of conveying a childhood full of the things that all children deserve: joy, playfulness, and safety. It is a symbol of the carefree nature that all children should be able to experience. Every year the Realities For Children Pinwheel Gala kicks off this month dedicated to child abuse awareness and prevention in our community.

While many people are aware that child abuse and neglect exists in a general sense, they might not be aware of the frequency or severity of the problem in their own community. However, the awareness of the problem is important as a catalyst to be able to address the issue. This is why one of the key services of Realities For Children is to increase awareness of the issues of child abuse and neglect and encouraging everyone to be part of helping children receive the healing support they need.

In the United States as shared by Statista Research in 2022 there were over 5 child abuse deaths every day

on average. And in 2023, Larimer County alone fielded 6,795 referrals of child abuse and neglect. To help raise awareness, provide healing services and work towards prevention requires the support of our entire community. This April we would like to invite you to help increase awareness and provide support for children in need.

There are a number of ways that you can get involved and raise awareness during the month of April.

Pick up a Pinwheel: Stop by Realities For Children (308 E. County Road 30 Fort Collins, CO 80525), and pick up some pinwheels to plant in your community for increased awareness.

Wear Blue: Join us in wearing blue every Friday during April (blue is the internationally recognized color for child abuse awareness and prevention).

Support Pinwheel Promotions: Many businesses in our community are offering exclusive discounts and other promotions during the month of April, with a percentage being donated to Realities For Children.

Be a Voice: Child Abuse Prevention starts with each one of us! Call 844-CO-4-KIDS if you are concerned about child abuse and neglect.

Donate: Make a donation to Realities For Children to help us reach further in healing support for children in need in Northern Colorado.

SPOTLIGHT PARTNER AGENCY

Nightlight is passionate about advocating for children and has been operating since 1959. We provide services throughout Colorado for children of all ages including those yet to be born.

For families willing and able to open their home to children whose parents are struggling to provide a safe and secure home environment we offer support and foster certification. Whether families are hoping to provide a permanent home or a temporary safe space, Nightlight is here with compassionate and experienced staff to walk this journey with them. By providing foster families the support they need, foster families are able to serve the children in our community. Our hands-on support allows families to keep their homes open longer and support more children and youth. This year we have been able to serve over 25 families and over 30 children.

Additionally, we provide support to those in Colorado who have compassion for children overseas who are in jeopardy of not ever having a forever family. Navigating the aspects of International Adoption can seem like an immense task; therefore, our team of experienced personnel are on hand to help. They are familiar with the laws, protocols, and requirements of countries open to international adoption. Our team helps to make the process as streamlined as possible while providing valuable insight. Just this year alone, several families in Colorado have adopted children from countries such as India, Colombia, and Mexico, to name a few.

Unexpected pregnancy causes an array of thoughts and feelings, many of which can seem overwhelming and even paralyzing. Our pregnancy counselors at Nightlight provide necessary resources so women know they are not alone. We even have

nightlight.org

a resident doula on staff here in Northern Colorado. Providing this support allows a woman time to work out what is right for her and her baby. Some women decide to parent, while others opt to place for adoption, either way we are here to help.

Families who struggle to become pregnant sometimes choose to do IVF. However, once their family is complete, they often have remaining embryos. Our Snowflakes program assists placing parents in finding the family of their choice for their remaining embryos. This adopting family then has the opportunity to give birth to their adopted child. Together we believe every embryo should have an opportunity to be born. As the world leader in embryo adoption, we are honored to have the hub of the Snowflakes Program based in Northern Colorado.

The agencies Realities For Children partners in service with are an esteemed group of nonprofit organizations that are committed to collaboration, fiscal efficiency and to providing the best possible continuum of service for the needs of northern Colorado children. Partner Agencies receive support from our organization in the form of emergency funding, youth activities, community awareness, event sponsorship, item distributions, and facilities space.

HELPING TAKE CHILDREN OUT OF THE DARKNESS OF ABUSE

As the 27th annual NightLights outreach concludes and the iconic 50-foot blue tree is dismantled, we take a moment to reflect on the incredible impact of a community united in purpose. Together, we have helped bring children out of the darkness of abuse, offering them a NightLight—a powerful symbol of hope and comfort.

The collective efforts of so many create a ripple effect far greater than we can imagine. For children facing fear, loneliness, and uncertainty, the love and support shown to them during this time can be life-changing. Receiving a NightLight serves as a beacon, reminding them they are not alone and that brighter days are ahead.

We are thrilled to share that during our 60-day outreach, we reached our $350,000 goal! To everyone who

donated and supported a child in need: thank you for making a difference.

The Tree Lighting Celebration was filled with joy and memorable moments. Live music by Steve Manshel set a festive tone as families captured selfies with Santa, Mrs. Claus, and their magical reindeer. The Studio Performance Teams delighted the crowd, while guests enjoyed complimentary hot drinks.

Highlights of the evening included the enchanting live reindeer, a beautiful performance of the NightLights song by Kate Trainor with Academy by Divabee, and the awe-inspiring lighting of the 50-foot blue NightLights tree. Children were thrilled to enter a drawing for a Giant Chocolate Santa donated by Kilwins Chocolates, Fudge, Ice Cream & Confections, while donors had a chance to win a $500 SCHEELS

gift card. The event truly created unforgettable memories for all.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to our incredible volunteers. Your dedication and hard work made everything possible—from setting up the NightLights Tree to tearing it down and ensuring the Tree Lighting Celebration’s success. Volunteers are the backbone of our events, and we couldn’t have achieved this without your support. Thank you for being such an integral part of bringing light and hope to our community.

Together, we have brought light to children living in the darkness of abuse. Your generosity and support are a testament to the power of a community united in purpose. Let’s continue to shine a light of hope for those who need it most.
