REALITIES FOR CHILDREN

Realities For Children is an alliance of local businesses whose mission is to provide for the unmet needs of children who have been abused, neglected, or are at-risk by uniting local businesses, youth agencies, and the community in collaborative and mutually beneficial service.

The underwriting support of the Business Members allows Realities For Children Charities to operate without expenses. This ensures that 100% of every donation directly benefits programs and services for the children we serve.

Partnered in service with local youth agencies, Realities For Children has created a safety net of services for children in our community who have faced abuse, neglect, or are at-risk.

Realities For Children service model

supports children from entry into the system and throughout their healing process. To do so we provide three essential legs of service.

The first leg of service requires we identify and meet the immediate, unmet and emergency needs provided within 60 minutes of a request so that no child in need is forgotten.

The second leg requires effective support services once emergency needs have been met so that the healing process along the path of recovery can begin.

The third leg focuses on provision of services that equip, support and provide resources so that as children emancipate from the system they are empowered to break the cycle of abuse.

Realities For Children provides for the emergency and ongoing support needs of children in Northern Colorado who have been abused, neglected, or are at-risk.

308 E. County Road 300 Fort Collins, CO 80525

Realities For Children is an organization that provides hope and facilitates change in the lives of children who have been abused, neglected, or are at-risk. This important cause is more than ambitious words - it is about helping real children whose needs have gone unmet. Our Business Members are integral to how we succeed in this mission.

As I have stepped-in to the role of Director of Marketing, I have been able to see how Realities For Children is making a difference in the lives of the children we serve. This is mainly accomplished through supportive relationships with businesses in the community and partnering with agencies that are engaged in the work of assisting children who are at-risk or have experienced abuse and neglect.

As we head towards the end of 2024, we are focused on our NightLights outreach in the community. The NightLights event has a profound effect on the children we serve by offering the light of hope to those who are subjected to the darkness of child abuse and neglect. Not only raising community awareness with the lighting of the NightLights Tree every night in December but also through the healing support the each light donated provides for these children. And thanks to our Members and Sponsors 100% of every donation goes directly to children in need.

In addition to presenting the 27th annual NightLights celebration, we are gearing up for Bikes for Tykes as well as Santa’s Workshop. These two distribution programs have a tremendously positive impact on the children that we serve.

When Bikes For Tykes provides a bicycle to a young person, they are providing a means to explore the world and have fun, and every child should be afforded those opportunities.

Santa’s Workshop accepts new toys, new winter coats, and gift cards (for older children) and works with our Partner Agencies to distribute these to children in need. Every gift received brings a smile of hope and lets them know that people care about them, and that can make a world of difference.

The Business Members in this Membership Directory are patrons that invest in our community, and they are making positive change in the lives of children with unmet needs. We encourage you to frequent their businesses. This support helps the children that we serve, but it also strengthens our community as a whole.

ITEM DONATIONS HIGHLIGHT REALITIES FOR CHILDREN

Realities For Children has six Core Services provided to the children and families we care for. One of these services is our item distributions. We manage several organized collection and distribution programs during the year, as well as having items available all year based on specific youth needs, as they are requested on a case-bycase basis.

All of our item distributions are made possible through the support of local businesses and organizations as collection sites, volunteers and financial donations. Last year we were able to provide items to 15,192 children in our community.

Back To School provides new backpacks filled with necessary school supplies, ensuring that every child feels confident walking into school. We were able to distribute filled backpacks and supplies to over 1,000 children earlier this year.

As the holidays are fast approaching this quarter is our busiest time for our major distribution programs. In addition to meeting daily requests we will host: Bikes For Tykes, Santas Workshop and our annual Festival of Trees providing fully-decorated Christmas trees to hundreds of

children in placement that would not have a tree this year.

Bikes For Tykes provides bicycles and new helmets to youth aged 2-17. Gently used bicycles can be taken to our bike partners during the collection period for safety checks and minor repairs. New bikes are accepted yearround at the RFC Homebase. Last year, over 400 bicycles were distributed. This year’s bike collection is from Oct. 26 to Nov. 30, and all sizes of bikes are needed. Please visit our website for a list of bike partners.

Santa’s Workshop is where we distribute new toys, new winter coats, and retail gift cards to children ages birth to 17. Last year alone, we were able to provide items to more than 1,400 children. The collection for this year’s program runs from Oct. 23 to Dec. 10. For more information and a list of collection locations, please visit our website.

KindConnect is our year-round distribution platform where our Partner Agencies can make requests for gently used household items for their clients. These requests are then posted on a request dashboard where community members can see them and donate these gently used, needed items. Delivery volunteers then pick up the items from donors and deliver them directly to the recipient. For more information on becoming a volunteer or a donor, visit rfckindconnect.org

Every donation to these distributions makes a huge impact. Being able to provide these needed items for children in need enables the use of critical emergency funds on other services for the youth we serve, helping to ensure no child is forgotten.

AMBASSADORS

The Ambassador program is comprised of a select group of Business Members who volunteer their time and talents to network and participate in fundraising events as spokespeople for Realities For Children.

They help generate business leads and educate organizations on how they can become part of the solution to child abuse in our community.

2024 PARTNER AGENCIES

LEARN MORE ABOUT OUR PARTNER AGENCIES

SPOTLIGHT PARTNER AGENCY

Adoptive Families of Larimer County (FAFLC) works to promote and improve the welfare of children in Northern Colorado, especially foster, kinship, guardianship, and adoptive children. FAFLC is proud of being a 100% volunteer-operated organization.

FAFLC supports its member families in many important ways. The organization offers education and training for families, as well as networking opportunities. The leadership guides FAFLC in promoting better communication between families and agencies, as well as improving public relations surrounding foster care and adoption issues.

Advocacy for the best interests of children is also an important part of

community.

Some of FAFLC members’ favorite events include trips to Water World and a Corn Maize, an Easter Egg Hunt and Picnic, and a Christmas Party. These are only a few of the activities that FAFLC hosts throughout the year. These fun, family-friendly events are focused on providing positive, inclusive activities for all children of FAFLC families.

These are places where children can simply be children in a safe, loving atmosphere that normalizes and validates their experiences.

Another benefit that FAFLC brings to its members is access to concrete resources.

FAFLC offers a clothing bank, a food program, a car seat program, school supplies, a Christmas gift program, and birthday gift cards and a gift bank for each child’s birthday.

These resources allow children to have many of their needs and wants fulfilled without excessive monetary strain on families.

FAFLC is also able to provide financial assistance for special needs for foster and adoptive children. This financial program can help cover recreational activities and experiences, music or other lessons, medical needs or equipment, dental or orthodontic care, therapeutic support, respite care, educational support, and more. These are valuable opportunities for children who might not otherwise have access to them.

FAFLC and its member families are very appreciative of the ongoing support for some of the most vulnerable members of the northern Colorado community. Thank you!

SPOTLIGHT PARTNER AGENCY

“Creating Families, Delivering Dreams” is the perpetual goal for Adoption Dreams Come True. Building an agency that fully supported all aspects of the adoption triad, “Child, Birth Parents & Adoptive Family”, was the foundation for this agency and continues today.

Established in 2005 in Fort Collins by Executive Director Cindy Sarai, Adoption Dreams Come True (ADCT), is a licensed Colorado child placement agency that proudly serves the state of Colorado. We provide services for open, closed (at birth parent/s request only), designated, in-state and interstate adoptions.

ADCT provides end-to-end domestic infant adoption services: home studies, adoption counseling, education classes, legal relinquishment/termination, placement, post-placement and adoption finalization.

Staffed by experienced, professional and dedicated caseworkers, ADCT offers a safe haven to birth parents who are considering options for their unplanned pregnancy. This critical decision process requires compassion, kindness and accurate information in a non-judgmental environment. Counseling for birth parents is life-long and at no cost.

The agency was built on five core beliefs: (1) every child deserves a safe, loving, permanent home, (2) birth parents deserve respect and kindness, (3) great parents are not determined by income level so a sliding fee scale was developed, (4) the diversity in our world should be reflected in the families we serve and (5) we believe in giving back – our Dream Room is a free resource for low income families with children from 0-2 years of age offering diapers, clothing, toys and nursery items.

We are humbled by our birth parents who make difficult decisions based on the needs of their child versus the wants of their hearts. And, it is always an honor to be a part of the adoption journey for families and children. But families say it best, “Thank you for helping make our dreams come true…. for guiding us along the way, for your love and support”.

RFC CHARITIES BOARD OF DIRECTORS

Kristy Volesky, President Assistant Chief

SPOTLIGHT BUSINESS MEMBER

It is 2024, and right now the United States is in poorer health and trending downward than it was 20 years ago. According to recent statistics from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), over 60% of adults in the U.S. have a chronic disease such as heart disease, cancer, or diabetes, and 40% have two or more. 1 in 36 kids is on the autism spectrum, (this was 1 in 1500 in 2000) 25% of women are on an antidepressant and the list goes on. These troubling trends have placed an enormous burden on both individuals and the healthcare system, with chronic diseases accounting for nearly 90% of the nation’s $4.1 trillion in annual healthcare costs. The problem: Healthcare is the fastest growing industry in the world. Not AI, not tech; healthcare. The problem with this is that we have incentivized sickness for profit, and it is contributing to poor outcomes for our nation.

This is the passion with which Dr. Dan Wallis and his wife Elise Wallis founded Elevate Chiropractic in 2015. They are passionate about educating their community about true health and healing that focuses on inside out healing, versus our western system which often focuses on symptom suppression, leading to a cycle of dependency on medication and invasive procedures. “Our healthcare system is structured to treat symptoms, not to restore true health,” Dr. Wallis explains. “We need to start teaching our kids and empowering them with tools to take care of their health naturally, and make it simple.”

Nervous system-based chiropractic care offers a unique perspective by focusing on optimizing the body’s ability to heal itself naturally. Misalignments in the spine, known as subluxations, can interfere with nervous system function, leading to a cascade of health issues. Through precise chiropractic adjustments, these subluxations are corrected, allowing the nervous system to communicate effectively and enabling the body to return to a state of balance and healing, while also reducing pain; commonly known in a chiropractic setting. Clinical research supports this approach.

“We’re not just managing symptoms; we’re helping the body regain its innate ability to heal,” says Dr. Wallis. Elevate Chiropractic’s mission is “to see this

community thrive, through health and healing strategies made simple. It’s with this in mind that every patient is seen as unique, and the approach of patient centered natural health and healing is taken.

Dr. Wallis advocates for a shift in healthcare, where the focus is on promoting wellness and preventing disease, rather than solely treating symptoms. Elevate Chiropractic specializes in making this simple for families in Northern Colorado to attain. By addressing the root cause— nervous system dysfunction—this approach offers a sustainable path toward combating the chronic disease epidemic and helping patients achieve long-term health without the reliance on drugs and surgery. Dr. Dan and Elise are passionate about making nervous system based chiropractic care affordable and convenient for the whole family and are honored to serve this area!

Every service, program and fund provided by Realities For Children is possible due to the support from our local Business Members. With this investment, we are able to ensure thousands of children in our community who have faced abuse, neglect or are at-risk are not forgotten and have the opportunity to heal, learn and grow.

Our Business Members enjoy many marketing benefits and networking opportunities in addition to knowing that they are having a direct impact on our community’s youth.

Dr. Ciaran Murphy and his wife Ellie opened Harbor Dental in 2007 from scratch in the shopping complex at Timberline and Drake with a mission of providing high quality, trustworthy, family friendly dentistry for all ages. As a privately owned practice, Harbor Dental offers the latest in dental technologies such as same day crowns and veneers, dental implants, children’s dental services, root canals, cosmetic dentistry, custom teeth whitening, and Invisalign.

As Harbor Dental grew, it moved to a new larger space in 2017 just over a block away. The new location provided

more space for patient care, better parking access for patients, and great neighbors (like Realities For Children business members Eger CPA and Farmer’s Insurance). Harbor Dental is now undergoing another expansion of its current location. As an independent small business, Dr. Murphy and his wife are proud to be able to provide a great work environment to their 20 team members, including another provider, Dr. Clark Cranfill. Their vision of family friendly dentistry is carried throughout the Harbor Dental team who show their values of compassion, teamwork, and integrity through every patient interaction.

Dr. Murphy, Dr. Cranfill, and their team are also committed to service. Dr. Murphy has served as the president of the Larimer County Dental Association. He and some of his team members have also volunteered at the Colorado Mission of Mercy, which provides free dental care to the underserved

in Colorado. Dr. Cranfill has offered dental services to hundreds of underserved individuals in Larimer County and journeyed to Guatemala during his studies to help rural banana plantation workers and their families.

A question that often comes up is why Dr. Murphy chose the name Harbor Dental for this Colorado dental practice. Dr. Murphy, who originally was born in Ireland, grew up near the ocean and loves to sail. He can be found in the summers at Carter Lake sailing with the beautiful backdrop of the foothills and enjoying time with his wife and three daughters.

Dr. Murphy feels a deep sense of gratitude for the many patients who have entrusted him with their care. He is passionate about dentistry, and welcomes you and your family members to come and experience exceptional dental care!

The Realities Ride & Rally was on Friday, August 23, and Saturday, August 24. We had over 1,000 riders participate this year, and nearly $90,000 was raised for the Emergency Fund. The event included an opening rally, free concerts, and military appreciation on Friday night, followed on Saturday by the World’s Largest Poker Run and after-ride celebration. Our sponsors, volunteers, and vendors all came together to make this a fantastic event. Thank you to everyone that participated!

Special thanks to everyone who joined us for our Rally before the Ride on Friday night, where we had an absolute blast! We enjoyed the amazing live music on the Thunder Mountain Harley-Davidson Stage by The Blues Dogs and Last Men

on Earth. Blue Federal Credit Union once again presented our Veterans Tribute featuring the Denver Dolls, Presentation of the Colors, and a gift to all our Veterans in attendance from the children this Ride helps to provide for. The Street Cowboys sponsored by Elway Powersports tore up the pavement and the winner of the $500 gift card to SCHEELS was Solitare Svoboda! And thanks to everyone who joined us SCHEELS and our other donors have donated 20 new bicycles for the children we serve – so they too will know the freedom of the Ride we all enjoy.

As to the freedom of the ride, we kicked off the 23rd annual ride with live music of ThreeShots, the Presentation of the Colors just after the Blessing of the Bikes. When it came time to saddle up and ride,

we enjoyed the all-new Law Tigers ride route to the Estes Park Events Complex. When we returned to the Grimm Brothers After Ride celebration the energy was great and fun was had by all with axe throwing, cigar bar, whiskey tasting, stunt shows, Harley-Davidson demo rides, vendors, drawings, and great live music by the Van Zeppelin and El Loco Fandango. During our live auction donors helped us to reach even further into the darkness of child abuse with generous support of children and families in need. Please continue to be a voice for these children by helping to make the ride bigger every year and invite everyone you know to join us at next year’s Realities Ride & Rally to make every mile help a child.

This free community event features live music, visit with Santa Claus and his reindeer, complimentary hot drinks and treats, a chance to win $500 to SCHEELS, the 30lb. chocolate Santa, and the lighting of the 50-foot NightLights tree.

This heartwarming evening brings awareness and support for children who have been abused, neglected or are at-risk. Learn more about the NightLights celebration and help brighten the life of a child by giving them a NightLight.
