REALTYONEGROUP: YOU’VE BEEN IN THE REAL ESTATE BUSINESS FOR MOST OF YOUR LIFE. WHAT MADE YOU DECIDE TO GET YOUR BEAK IN THE DOOR? KUKU: I knew some people who had some success in the business, and my flock mate, Kacper, was already working at The Lab. He got me a job as the receptionist; I was supposed to greet people as they walked in, but I knew I was destined for greater things, so instead I stayed silent whenever anyONE entered the office, and I squawked my heart out when I was by myself. I was given an office shortly after that, so I guess you could say that I sang my way to the top.

REALTYONEGROUP: HOW IS REALTYONEGROUP DIFFERENT FROM OTHER COMPANIES? KUKU: Well,

for starters, they hired an African Grey,

which is pretty innovative — I don’t know that I would have had this opportunity anywhere else. But as I’ve grown with this company, I’ve seen how much their coolture matters. Their coolture unites them with a common passion, and as ONE of their mascots, I fully support their philosophy that everyONE has a voice.

WHAT WOULD YOU SAY IS YOUR BIGGEST ACCOMPLISHMENT? KUKU: I can imitate the sound of an incoming FaceTime call to absolute perfection. EveryONE looks at their phones when I do it. Another time, I ripped off every single button on ONE of Kacper’s shirts, because I don’t like it when he has nice things.

24

REALTYONEGROUP First Quarter 2016

“ TAKE THE TIME TO INVEST IN YOURSELF, BECAUSE SUCCESS REALLY IS A MINDSET AND A LIFESTYLE.

” HOW DO YOU FIND TIME FOR FAMILY AND FRIENDS WITH SUCH A BUSY CAREER PATH? KUKU: It’s all about finding the right perspective; you have to make time for the important things. It’s important to know when to take a burrito break, for example, and it’s equally as important to take the RealtyONEGroup positive attitudes to heart (like celebrating your success). I’ve actually written a book filled with tons of this info, though — it’s called A KuKu Life, in case you were interested in picking up a copy.

CAN YOU GIVE US ONE PIECE OF ADVICE FOR ANYBODY WHO MIGHT BE TRYING TO BREAK INTO THE REAL ESTATE BUSINESS? KUKU: Take the time to invest in yourself, because success

really

is

a

mindset

and

a

lifestyle.

RealtyONEGroup has this hashtag I like: #WakeUpToWin. It’s an awesome way to describe the attitude you need if you want to accomplish your goals.

WHAT IS YOUR TYPICAL DAY LIKE AT REALTYONEGROUP? KUKU: Kacper and I roll in around 10, and then I spend most of the day hanging out around the office and encouraging my coworkers to be the best they can be. I usually dedicate some time in the afternoons to singing, especially if I’m left by myself in my office.

Q&A

RAPID FIRE PLAY VIDEO

ARE YOU A NOCTURNAL OR DIURNAL BIRD? Definitely diurnal. I’m an early bird.

NICKNAME? Kookie or Kooks.

IF YOU COULD HAVE ONE WISH GRANTED, WHAT WOULD IT BE? I would wish for an infinite stack of paper, so I could spend forever ripping it up into tiny pieces. I like to destroy things; it gives me a sense of accomplishment.

WHERE IS YOUR FAVORITE PLACE TO VISIT? The Lab at RealtyONEGroup — everyONE loves me there.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE COLOR? It’s a tie between red and grey, but I also have a soft spot for black and gold.

FAVORITE PHRASE TO CHIRP? “Hi, KuKu.” I say it when Kacper ignores me.

WHAT IS THE CRAZIEST THING YOU’VE EVER DONE? ONE time, Kacper left me out of my cage overnight and it started raining outside. I wanted to sit in the rain, but Kacper wouldn’t wake up, so I hopped down, banged open a door, and walked around the house to the backyard. I can’t fly for some reason, so I used my beak strength and my talons to pull myself on top of the gazebo in our backyard. I sat there all night soaking up the rain drops and it felt amazing. Kacper can’t fly either, so he had a really hard time getting me down the next morning.

EVERYONE NEEDS . . . A bird, obviously.

WHAT IS YOUR BIGGEST FEAR? There’s this cardboard cut-out of Borat that’s my mortal enemy. I’m also suspicious of new toys, plastic bags, and water bottles.

FAVORITE FOOD? Sunflower seeds and grapes. I could eat that stuff forever.

WHO IS YOUR CELEBRITY CRUSH? Kevin from the movie Up. I think she has beautiful feathers. First Quarter 2016 REALTYONEGROUP

Hashtags are an integral part of the social media ecosystem. They’ve become so commonplace in everyday verbage that the Oxford Dictionary defined the word in 2010. Learning how to use them, however, can be a slightly more difficult concept to understand. In their most basic form, hashtags work as a search term and a way to categorize content, linking the word that follows to all other posts that have used the same word. Hashtags are used on Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, Facebook, Tumblr, Google+, and Vine. They are a great way to make your public content discoverable and find others who are posting similar content to you. For example, using #RealtyONEGroup will allow anyONE searching that term to find your content. Similarly, if you look up #RealtyONEGroup, you will see all other users who have used that content and the pieces of content they’ve posted.

1.

A hashtag must be written as a single word without any spaces. Users can use a phrase or a sentence such as #ILoveRealtyONEGroup but it’s unlikely to be a common search term. It’s safer to use #RealtyONEGroup. The longer the phrase, the less likely it is to be a popular search.

2. 3.

Numbers are okay to use in a hashtag, but punctuation and special characters won’t work.

4.

Research your hashtag. The more relevant your hashtag, the better likelihood of connecting to an interested audience.

5.

Don’t overhashtag. Don’t feel compelled to #hashtag #every #single #word. It can distract the reader and come off as spammy. You’re better off sticking to relevant content and a few good hashtags.

6.

Use branded company hashtags such as #FollowTheONE for pictures of the RealtyONEGroup pin and #MyWowNow to describe your positive RealtyONEGroup experience.

Be specific when using hashtags. Typing in #home will bring in a lot of different content and not all relevant to your community or search. #realestate or #hometip is more specific and geared to a certain audience.

REALTYONE First Quarter 2016

IT’S OK TO FEEL #ONEDERFUL

GET FIT It’s probably ONE of the most popular ideas you’ll hear at the start of each year, but that’s because it’s worth it. The benefits of getting in a little extra cardio and tossing in a bit more toning can actually help the overall success of your career. Spending about twenty minutes taking a quick power walk or light jog around the block will help decrease your chances of getting sick AND release those healthy and happy endorphins to boost your mood!

MORE ONE of the secrets to success is to read! As an iconic author once said, “The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you’ll go.” Reading is directly linked to your success as professional, so make some time to read a little more (even if it’s only ONE juicy chapter a day)!

UNPLUG & UNWIND Pulling the plug on your electronic devices might sound like the last thing a top-producing professional like yourself should do, but the truth is, unplugging from the constant connection for a while helps to clear your head and solve problems. We can’t forget about the opportunity for some additional quality time with the family, either! First Quarter 2016 REALTYONEGROUP
