NEW PRODUCTS & SERVICES Autopath During strip till, banded fertilizer applications, or planting, the crop row locations are created for that crop year. This information is documented and saved in John Deere Operations Centre and is referred to as the source operation. During the source operation (either strip till or planting), an implementmounted receiver records the exact location of each crop row, as applied. This data builds a map of every crop row, which is used by AutoPath to create accurate guidance lines. After the source operation is completed, AutoPath automatically creates these guidance lines for the entire field for later passes. These guidance lines cover external boundaries, internal boundaries, headlands, and crop rows. With AutoPath, you get to work quickly and confidently using accurate guidance lines based on the crop row location.

Machine Sync

Fastrac Twin Steer

Machine Sync speeds up harvest operations while reducing grain loss and stress on the combine and grain trailer operators.

RVT Precision were the first UK dealer to install John Deere Greenstar on a Fastrac to control both the front and rear axles independently as a form of implement steer. This integration means precise placement of the implement at all times even on side-land ground. It is made possible with a receiver over the rear axle as well the typical front mounted antenna which is RTK enabled, the system utilises a 4640 Universal Display with the Automation Activation.

Update 20-3 includes additional capabilities so John Deere self-propelled forage harvesters can leverage Machine Sync functionality to fill trailers on either the left or right side of the machine or directly behind the forage harvester. In addition, Machine Sync can now be used during the harvest of other direct cut specialty crops such as potatoes or onions, when harvest equipment is pulled with a John Deere tractor and unloads directly into a commodity trailer also pulled by a John Deere tractor. John Deere Machine Sync is currently available to order as part of the Automation bundle of applications for John Deere Premium Generation 4 Displays. 4

In the summer we saw the introductions of Cart Ace, which allows the combine operator to generate a guidance path for the tractor to follow when unloading on the move. The tractor operator can also see from his Ag Leader display when the combine grain tank is full.

Upgrade your planter to electric drives! Ag Leader have a large focus on planting systems to make it possible to upgrade older maize and beet planters with the latest technology all through the Suredrive system. The Suredrive motor replaces existing mechanical metering drives and chains and mounts directly to the metering unit reducing vibration and improving misses in planting. This means you can reduce the maintenance and wearing parts while improving the productivity of your machine. Features: GPS forward speed & prescription rate control Turn compensation Row by row section control Optional sensors can be fitted to monitor population and singulation which keeps the operator informed of the performance of the planter

New display features The InCommand displays will get some exciting additional features from a software update in 2021 which will include the highly anticipated tramline feature and more ISOBUS functionality, with multiple seeding channels and application channels using ISOBUS. This will be especially useful for ISOBUS machines using companion crops and fertilizer applications in one pass. The tramline feature will allow the operator to select tramline passes for the sprayer and can be used with a half pass option to give you both the initial half pass line and the passes thereafter in your tramline sequence. Additional guidance line updates will include a one touch remark button to shift the guidance line to your position, the ability to view the AB line heading and path smoothing for smart paths.

NEW FEATURES The Mazzotti self propelled sprayer has had a few new additional features and more John Deere integration for 2021. Some of these include:

A new John Deere harvesting cab, replacing the Claas cab that was previously fitted.

The new cab comes fitted with CAT 4 filtration system as standard for operator comfort and safety, along with a new style command arm, which has been adapted from the John Deere self propelled range of sprayers, to also increase operator comfort, and for ease of use.

A new style touch screen Terra monitor which monitors all the machine functionality, such as lights, oil pressures, fuel levels and speed.

Gen 4 4640 screen which is also integrated with the machine, runs the application side of things, such as the rate control, boom sections, Norac boom levelling and the documentation.

Documentation is also sent back into MyJohnDeere in real time to allow you to access as applied maps and other important data you might need to access.

The new “M Spray” feature which is a dual circuit system, just like “PowrSpray” on John Deere branded sprayers, enables a very fast reaction time when sections are turned off, ground speed is increased or the rate is increased.

“Active Pause” feature is also available on these machines, which pauses the intake of water into the main tank, but still keeps the induction hopper fed with clean water for incorporating chemicals.

The new “MK” boom configurations are also available, from 24m up to 36m (double and tri fold booms) and in conjunction with the tank sizes available from Mazzotti (3000, 3500 & 4000 Litre tanks) the correct configuration of machine can be designed to suit your needs.

SPRAYER UPGRADES

Hardi Navigator sprayer upgrade RVT Precision upgraded James Burton’s Hardi Navigator sprayer from 4 sections up to 6, and also re-configured the boom section lay outs. The system was also upgraded to ISO Liquid, to utilise narrower end sections, along with section control, full documentation through the tractors Gen 4 4600 screen whilst using RVT RTK for optimum precision. An extended monitor was also installed for James to view his mapping at the same time as his sprayer rate controller. A switch box was added in the cab of the tractor enabling James to manually switch sections on/off when desired and so that the original control box’s could be removed from the cab reducing clutter.

James Burton Asbourne

ISO liquid Bateman upgrade Zak Stanier operates a Bateman RB25 wanted us to upgrade his machine to ISO liquid after he had extra sections added to his machine. We fitted this system to his machine to run through a John Deere 4240 display for full section control and documentation. This 4240 display replaced his existing LH Agro display. Zak also wanted an Isobus joystick to replace his existing one which enabled him to turn sections on/off all at his finger tips, along with his master switch. With full RVT RTK running on this sprayer, he is making full use of adding extra sections, which are now 2m each.

Sprayer Upgrades

John Deere M740i Dave Sketchley of H E Carthy Ltd in Tamworth took delivery of our ex demo M740i trailed sprayer last year, which replaced his self propelled Househam air ride machine. The reason Mr Sketchley chose a trailed machine was partly down to having a John Deere 6250R Command Pro. Mr Sketchley wanted to utilise the comfort of his tractor combined with the sprayer, especially with the sprayer being ISOBUS to have full integration with the Gen 4 Command Centre. “Section control and auto boom height is a big new feature to me, as the Househam didn’t have either of these features. 50kph for road speed is also a big factor as the Househam wasn’t capable of this speed, with us farming ground fairly far away so getting from field to farm is a big issue. With the tractor also running RVT RTK the section control works really well in turning off and on when it needs to and utilising the 8 sections across the 24m boom. Autofill also lets me concentrate on filling chemical into the machine and not worry about putting too much water in the tank. I just pre set how much I want in and set to fill.” Commented Mr Sketchley. RVT Precision can offer all the support Mr Sketchley requires with this machine, from being able to diagnose technical faults, to logging onto monitors remotely and correcting problems remotely. As spraying is such a crucial operation in any modern day farming operation, downtime always wants to be kept to a minimum. With all depots now stocking more sprayer spare parts, downtime can be kept to a minimum. “With Charlie and the Precision Farming team at the end of the phone, back up and support is never far away if I need it, whether

it’s to do with the combine, sprayer or the tractor. With us now using section control we have noticed a significant saving in chemical as there is no over applying anymore which is great.” RVT Precision have a M740i sprayer available for 2021 demonstartion spraying season, please get in touch with Charlie Henderson, RVT Precision, for more information.

Dave Sketchley Tamworth

OptRx Crop Sensors OptRx Crop Sensors measure and record data about crop health in real-time using the reflectance of light emitted on the growing plants. The OptRx system then determines the vigor of the crop (Vegetative Index). Sensors obtain readings of crop conditions in a field and compares high crop vigor plants to the rest of the field. OptRx uses two crop vigor algorithms, NDVI (for small crops such as early growth wheat) and NDRE (for large crops such as corn and late growth wheat) What problems do OptRx Crop Sensors address? Challenges associated with weather and soil matter variability Target nitrogen investment directly by applying higher rates in areas that will respond favorably to more nitrogen and reducing rates in areas that are nitrogen rich.

In manure applied fields, account for the variability of nitrogen caused by fluctuating concentrations of nitrogen within manure, as well as the limitations associated with manure spreading equipment. OptRx provides a proven variable rate nitrogen prescription every year. No per-acre service fees

COMMON NSTS FAULT FINDS

16,500

Charlie Henderson, RVT Precision Sprayer Specialist reports:

UK Sprayer tests in 2019

16,177 sprayer tests were carried out last year in the UK. That is a slight decrease from the year before which was around the 16,500. Why has it decreased? I think the main reasons are contractors are using bigger tank volume machines and this is also the case with contract farming/shared farming. The way laws and legislations are being made and decided crop spraying has now become a major data driven operation, with records needing to be kept for a number of years. With more data being transferred wirelessly onto platforms such as MyJohnDeere, the applied data of a sprayer needs to be correct when its being applied onto the crop. This ultimately means that crop sprayers need to be kept in good working order to be able to meet these legislations. I test many sprayers ranging from large self propelled machines down to 3m mounted machines and come across many different issues, usually they are a simple fix and can be resolved during the test/during the day. Here is a table from AEA regarding the top 10 most common faults from years 2018 and 2019.

Why has it decreased? Farmer contractors are using bigger tank volume machines

Intellislope is Ag Leader’s automated solution to control elevation on land drainage machines using RTK GPS corrections. The system uses an in field base station to provide a vertical accuracy of 1cm to the GPS 7500 receiver on the drainage machine. Greenstar receivers can also be used if you already use these receivers on other machines. The InCommand 1200 display features the water management application which allows the operator to survey and install drainage lines. Topography maps can be produced using the water management module or via the display if used on another machine such a utility vehicle. An important feature of lntellislope is the ability to Auto Tile. This allows the operator to survey the drainage line, turn around and install the drain from this survey. The Incommand 1200 display uses the gradient recorded, which the operator can adjust manually to suit requirements. The system allows the operator to input a minimum, maximum and target depth before installing the drain and allows the user to take manual control on the display when required. Intellislope can also function in the same way as a laser system by keeping a constant grade to suit requirements. Additionally to elevation control, Intellislope can precisely control pitch and elevation if you are using a tile plough such as a Soil Max.

The software can work out the optimal placement for the drain automatically

Intelliscope Project

INTELLISLOPE

Using Intellislope in conjunction with the SMS desktop platform allows users to import topography maps and create a drainage plan. The software can work out the optimal placement for the drain automatically which the user can manually change to suit their requirements. This can then be exported to the display for installing. Please contact me if you would like to find out more information on any Ag Leader systems.

Potato Yield Mapping This year RVT Precision have installed some bespoke yield mapping systems onto Grimme Potato Harvesters. The system utilises weigh cells fitted to the machine which measure the crop as it passes through. A John Deere application controller is then used to enable the readings to be displayed and recorded on the John Deere display. The yield is documented from individual varieties to see the variation across a field. The data can be stored and viewed in the John Deere Operations Centre and used for further analysis such as comparing to application or tillage maps to make informed decisions.

Call RVT Precision on 01743 289100 to find out more about a yield mapping systems for your Grimme harvester.

Distance Trip Tree Planter John Deere’s Distance Trip is a feature within the application controller. This feature allows customers to set automated triggers to an implement mechanism at pre-defined distances as they travel forward in work. This gives us the ability to control hydraulic systems and mechanical systems that require accurate and consistent spacing. An example of the systems use is planting trees, being able to trigger the planting mechanism at the correct spacing as well as achieving the correct lateral spacing with the autosteer.

Section Control on a potato planter

One of the most important features of Distance Trip is the ability to be able to set an origin point which is the fixed point of the sequence. This allows the user to set different pattern types between passes which include:

• • • •

Parallel lines Grid patterns Equilateral triangles Integrated angles

• Alternating rows • Fence post • Manual trip

Within the set-up, the operator can name the field operation and save the origin point so they can return to the work if it isn’t completed. The operator can also set up multiple machines in the controller to easily switch between.

DIGITAL SOLUTIONS HUMMINGBIRD PARTNERSHIP Hummingbird Technologies now work alongside John Deere and Rea Valley Tractors offering digital solutions to create variable rate applications through up-to-date satellite imagery. Advanced crop analytics creates earlier data driven decisions that optimise applications to increase yields and create a more sustainable farming business. Hummingbird Technologies is an artificial intelligence platform using the latest deep learning and computer vision techniques along with proprietary algorithms to provide actionable intelligence to farmers and agri-businesses at key decisionmaking times in the growing season. The company analyses remote sensing data to help farmers identify early problems in their crops such as crop health, disease risk and detection, weed mapping and yield prediction as well as valuable information such as canopy coverage, plant counting, size and biomass estimation, with the objective of optimising inputs and maximising efficiency. Their platform is utilised at key decision-making points in the growing season to allow intelligent and specific information to inform chemical or operational input decisions that decrease costs and improve outputs.

PESSL INSTRUMENTS Metos UK offer a wide range of weather monitoring equipment, from precipitation to disease forecasting, turn data driven information into increased margins for your cropping business. The new NB-IoT (Narrow Band Internet of Things) system which can now be used in conjunction with stationary devices that send very small amounts of data frequently, can tolerate long latencies and are located in places that other technologies would struggle to get signal to. This gets rid of the need for additional hardware which we have needed previously.

NETWORK UPDATE Since we introduced RVT RTK over 8 years ago we have added and upgraded a number of different base stations to cover a greater area of our territory, to keep you covered no matter your location. We have now made a further investment in networking our base stations together which means that no matter which base station you are using you will not see any movement in guidance lines or boundaries as seen in the past, this will increase accuracy and reliability. It will mean if a base station loses power you will

automatically jump across to another without any effect on position. We have positioned an additional base on our sister company’s (Altegra) headquarters in Somerset which is already servicing customers in that area, if you are from that area and would like more information please get in touch with the RVT Precision team.

WHEN YOU UPGRADE TO RVT RTK! The RVT Precision kit includes a RVT Precision fleece, tape measure, thermos mug, RVT pen, mug and hat!
