DURA LINE™ Dura Line™ components were developed by John Deere and are installed in high wear spots on the self-propelled forage harvesters (SPFH), mainly in the crop flow. The technology is normally used for heavy-duty environments such as mining and machine tooling. It is the highest material quality in the industry that is installed on an SPFH. The coating is extremely wear resistant with an extraordinarily smooth surface due to the special heat treatment and a proprietary tungsten carbide composition. Dura Line™ provides a permanent fast-chopping process with low crop friction on the components while fuel consumption remains low. Tests show that when chopping in the same crop conditions and chopping the same tonnage, Dura Line™ parts last four times as long as, or longer than, standard parts saving time and money associated with replacing parts.

TWO KERNEL PROCESSING OPTIONS John Deere kernel processors (KP) deliver smashed kernels and highly processed plants that growers expect. With two different models, the John Deere Premium KP™ kernel processor and the John Deere XStream KP™ kernel processor. All John Deere SPFH can be operated with or without a kernel processing unit in position. When not in use, a crop transition chute (or grass chute) swings into position with a few turns of a crank. The crop transition chute comes standard on all harvesters. The SPFH feature the AutoLube central greasing harness; the respective central greasing equipment is available on the Premium KP kernel processor. The XStream KP kernel processor features automatic pressurized oil lubrication. The John Deere Premium KP is available for the 9600 to 9700 models, and the John Deere XStream KP is available for all 9000 Series models. The 9900 model can only be equipped with an XStream KP.

CORN KNIVES Dura-Drum cutter head is available with widetapered corn knives, angled corn knives or grass knives. Wide-tapered knives overlap to eliminate any uncut finer material. Angled knives require less power than straight corn knives. For corn harvest only. Grass knives are straight knives more resistant to damage by small stones when operating with a windrow pick up harvesting unit. Grass Knives are recommended when most work will be windrow pickup. Less efficient when harvesting corn compared to corn knives, more resilient to stones with the grass shearbar than a corn shearbar but tend to be less sharp. Longer-cutthead grass knives standard. We have experienced forage harvester technicians throughout RVT and between them they have many years of experience.

Use the Pro-touch button, one touch sets up the forager for harvesting and transporting, making the process a smooth operation.

The team are supported by superb RVT Parts departments at each depot so that any replacement part can be supplied promptly to help keep your forager running at optimum performance through maize harvest.

Once the maize is in book in for a post-harvest Expert Check. We will go through the forager and discuss with you what went well and what needs improving for the next season.

NEW SELF-PROPELLED FORAGER 9500 & 9600 WITH JD18X ENGINE John Deere has added two new models to its 9000 Series self-propelled forage harvester range. At the heart of the 9500 and 9600 is an all-new 18-litre John Deere engine producing 700 and 750hp respectively.

The 9000 Series foragers are well known for HarvestMotion, the company’s unique low engine RPM concept which boosts productivity and efficiency, with 10 per cent more performance and 10 per cent lower fuel consumption. Building on this success, the 9500 and 9600 utilise the new JD18X engine, which requires no DEF. This award-winning engine design introduces HarvestMotion Plus, which delivers an exceptional torque rise and even more power at low engine RPM. It also produces extra power up to 766hp on the 9500 and 787hp on the 9600. All these features will provide customers with a 10 per cent lower fuel cost per harvested tonne and 33 per cent lower oil cost compared to other machines in the same horsepower class. MAINTENANCE PLANS QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS RVT Shield Maintenance Plans have become more popular over the last few years as customers become more aware of the importance of regular and timely servicing, and the need to budget and fix costs. They are often committed to looking after livestock or concentrating on the business of looking after the farm with less and less spare time for servicing it can quite often get overlooked, so it is sometimes easier for RVT to manage the servicing from start to finish. Advances in telemetry (JD Link or JCB Livelink) have allowed us the opportunity to manage customers servicing for them in a more detailed way. Q and A’s based on commonly asked questions: Q 1. What is a Maintenance Plan? A 1. This is where we calculate the value of the servicing for a specified term, based on your estimated annual usage. Upon signing the value of the plan can then be paid monthly, quarterly or at any interval to suit your cashflow, by standing order.

Q 4. My tractor is 10 years old, can I put a maintenance plan on it? A 4. There is no age limit as to the machine the plan is to be applied to, likewise we can put plans on tractors, loadalls, combines, foragers or even Gators.

Q 2. Why is this of benefit when I can just pay whenever a service is carried out? A 2. The benefit is that by entering into a plan you fix your costs for the term of the plan, allowing you to know your servicing costs to the penny every month. We also know that servicing modern, sophisticated machines can lead to bills that some months can be disruptive to cashflow, so a plan would ease this.

Q 5. What happens if I sell my tractor halfway through the plan? A 5. The plan can facilitate cancellations so that you only pay for the servicing you have had.

Q 3. If I take out an extended warranty do I need a maintenance plan? A 3. Extended warranty is to cover your machine in the event of a mechanical breakdown. A maintenance plan is purely to provide servicing at the time it is due, and is a prerequisite of any of the extended warranties we offer. That said, you can take out a maintenance plan without an extended warranty, but you cannot have an extended warranty without a supporting maintenance plan.

Q 6. What happens if I finish paying but haven’t had all my services? A 6. Then RVT will come and do the services when they are due!

Grease testing JCB grease undertakes a rigorous programme of testing to ensure it provides the maximum performance and protection for your JCB machine. JCB Engineering standards lay down performance levels and criteria for JCB grease which EXCEED INDUSTRY STANDARDS. The Four Ball Weld Test is a typical example of how JCB Grease outperforms other grease that claim to be the same. In this test the JCB product clearly outperformed JC-4003/2017 both the low cost alternative and the industry standard requirement. Choosing anything else but the approved JCB approved grease is a false economy which can lead to component wear and ultimately premature component failure. Four ball weld test: For this industry standard test grease is put under rotating speed and then a 450Kg load is applied. To pass the test the ball bearings have to last for 15 seconds before they ‘fail’ (seize) and weld together. The non JCB ‘equivalent’ grease fails immediately while the JCB HP Grease continues well past the required time. JCB grease is manufactured to provide significant load protection for your JCB.

IMPLEMENT GUIDANCE We are seeing increasing interest in customers wanting more in field implement precision. Implements are susceptible to implement drift caused by varying soil conditions as well as gravity in sidehill applications. Active Implement Guidance automatically steers the implement to the guidance line by providing satellite data correction to the implement steering mechanism. While the tractor uses the AutoTrac™ system to follow the desired path in the field, the implement receiver provides a correction signal to the controller that steers the implement. MAIZE MAZE SHOWCASES RVT PRECISION FARMING CAPABILITIES Arscott Farm, Shropshire RVT Precision used section control technology with an eight row Kuhn Maxima Maize drill on a John Deere 6215R tractor with RVT RTK satellite signal to drill maize in a specific design. Joe Hamer at Arscott Farm was looking to diversify his farm business to attract more visitors during the year. He supplied a bold sunflower and RVT Precision logo design for the drill to follow. The design celebrates the amazing precise electronic section control technology that can plant the maize seed with an accuracy to within 1cm in one pass. Hopefully the maize maze will be a great attraction to the farm and provide a lot of fun for many families in the Shropshire area. The design is now beginning to really reveal itself as the crop grows and is certain to put this maize maze on the map!

This 7500-litre machine will join the rest of the R900i Series line-up, with tank capacities of 4400, 5200 and 6200 litres, in 2022.
