JULY 2015

Pine Lake Country Club Since 1952 | Country Life . . . Club Setting

From the General Manager by Travis Dale

T he July 4th holiday celebration is around the corner. Please plan to join us for this Pine Lake tradition. Our team has an amazing fun filled day planned for you and your family to enjoy as we celebrate America! Congratulations to the Pine Lake Piranhas for a fantastic season. We could not do this without all of the parents and volunteers that make our swim team possible. A big thank you to Coach Ken Konstanty and his Assistant Coaches-Griffin Basden, Kathryn Cannon and Jeff Coffman. July 1st you will receive a survey via email from the club. Please call or stop by to see Danielle if you have any questions with the survey or to request a paper copy. The Strategic planning committee created the survey to assist our Board of Directors with valuable information so they can help guide our club into the future. This is every member’s opportunity to tell us what you like, dislike and what you would like the club to offer. We absolutely need you to participate in this survey. It will take 15-20 minutes to complete. We are asking that every member and spouse complete the survey. We will have the survey open from July 1-31. As an added incentive we will draw five names from a “hat” for $50 dining gift certificates for the members who complete the survey by July 15th. We will then draw names for an additional 10 $25 gift certificates for all of those that completed the survey by July 31st. If you have your survey in by the 15th you have a chance to win twice. Mark your calendar for a mid-year membership meeting. Our Board of Directors will present a financial snap shot of the year to date, discuss our current membership level and provide a capital project update. The meeting will take place in the Ballroom on Wednesday, July 29th at 6pm. The club will provide some complimentary hors d’ oeuvres and have a full bar available for purchase. We encourage you to join us for this informative event. As an added bonus we will give away several door prizes. A few complimentary golf guest fees, pool guest fees and “Free Beer” coupons. You need to be present to win! We need your help with bringing in new members. Bring a friend to Pine Lake and let them experience how special your club is. We have a great incentive in place for you if your friend joins the club. For the health and longevity of the club, we need all of you to bring in new Pine Lake members. My team and I look forward to seeing you at the club! Sincerely,

After a seasonable period, spring shifted to record heat and 15 consecutive days of over 90

degrees. Record highs were recorded on 3 occasions and 13 days were over 95 degrees. The bentgrass greens are a bit stressed, but are holding their own. Root growth of cool season grasses are compromised at soil temperatures above 80 degrees. With many weeks of summer ahead, the most important keys to the greens health are low temperatures in the 60’s with moderate rainfall. The bermudagrass is right at home with this heat. It went from struggling with the cloudy cool days of early spring to aggressively growing by mid-June. The main issue has been with the sand based tees and fighting localized dry spots due to a lack of rainfall. Additional watering has been required, and applications of wetting agents to combat the droughty soils have been applied. The cart path sodding project is ongoing. Keeping the sod moist with the temperature extremes has been a challenge. We recently converted our fairway sprayer to a portable water tank to help out with the watering. This gives us two portable machines. Wetting agents have also been used to help hold water in the sod until a healthy root system can be established. Our plan is to install 9,000 sq. ft. of sod every 2-3 weeks until a quality product is achieved. When the cart paths were installed a recycled concrete base was used with little regard to containment by the contractor. This has made establishing a suitable growing medium for the sod a very tedious undertaking. The staff has taken great pride in improving our course through their hard work with the sod installation. All of this work has been done with little compromise to daily playing conditions. We should all be very thankful for them embracing the extra work load under such extreme weather conditions. They truly realize the impact the end result will have for the club!

TELL YOUR FRIENDS!

MEMBERSHIP REFERRAL PROGRAM The Membership Referral program will put cash back into your pocket and add friends to our Pine Lake Family.

It is very simple. Bring a friend to the club and show them what we have to offer. If they become interested in joining Pine Lake, please let the General Manager know. There is a spot on the application form for who referred them to the club. If they join the club, in six months you will receive a credit on your account for one month of the dues level that they join. We had two members take advantage of this fantastic program in June!

SUNDAY BRUNCH UPDATE!

Until further notice, the club has decided to suspend Sunday Brunch. With all of the family vacations and heat of the summer, our brunch attendance has greatly dropped. We will take another look at brunch as we get into the fall season. If you have any questions, please contact the General Manager, Travis Dale.
