“I think it’s just the tip of the iceberg.” LOCAL FROZEN BERRIES OUT IN THE COLD FOREIGN FRUIT TO STAY IN SUPERMARKETS DESPITE HEP A SCARE Victorian Farmers Federation president Peter Tuohey said until now it had been too hard for Australian farmers to compete against cheap imports. But he said the hepatitis A scare had made people think seriously about where their food was coming from. “I think the key message is if you buy Australian grown and packaged you’re going to have a smile on your face and not have to run off to the dunny,” he said. “People don’t realise how good and safe our food is until they get ill.” The price of a 500g pack of Matilda’s frozen berries isn’t set yet, but Mrs Gallace said it would cost a few dollars more than imported and cheaper than fresh — “pricing will be fair and reasonable.” Frozen strawberries will be available by June, with frozen mixed berries set to be on the shelves next year. ashley.argoon@news.com.au × http://m.heraldsun.com.au/news/victoria/victorian-grown-frozen-berri…t-shelves-in-wake-of-hepatitis-a-scare/story-fni0fit3-1227265310305
