Dear Readers, I am not a good planner myself. Let me clarify this—I plan as best I can but I always feel that we live in such a dynamic world, where changes are constant and unpredictable, that we will never be able to fully forecast or plan either a life or a business due to the inevitability of change. What we can do to prepare is to learn to be adaptable and to stay afloat amidst change. This may sound passive, however, it is the skill of the adjustment demanded by the environment that keeps us ever more evolved, advanced, and excelling. I always believe what we need to do to plan is to exercise our inner strength as training for resiliency. To be resilient, we must cultivate skills to help us defy difficulties and remain determined. With this, we can not merely stay afloat but advance wave upon wave and sail along on a successful journey. By the time you read this issue, 2012 is about to conclude its final chapter. The 2013 will be the Year of Golden Growth in Southeast Asia! Life always presents its challenges with unforeseeable changes. We live in a dynamic world and no matter how prepared we are, or think we are, there will always come along some sort of unforeseeable change that catches us off guard. A prime example came this past September at our RechargExpo Southeast Asia 2012 in Jakarta, Indonesia. Despite last minute booth changes and a few other “rearrangements” beyond our control, RechargExpo Southeast Asia had its third year's successful show. With much support from its Jakarta partners, ALL PRINT and Veneta System, visitors and exhibitors alike were charmed by the hope and expectations that the region’s lightning-fast growth has to offer. Yet in the face of adversity, I am pleased, and proud, to report that RechargExpo Southeast Asia 2012 finished on a grand note after four full days of exhibition co-located with ALL PRINT, one of the largest printing expos in the region. At the closing bell, and after the numerous initial challenges, our team breathed a sigh of relief and cheered for the results of the expo with imaging industry people from all parts of Indonesia. As the fourth most populous nation in the world, enjoying with anticipation what is predicted to be the “golden growth year” of 2013, the country has for a while yet shown signs of booming growth potential and opportunity. The International Data Corporation (“IDC”) forecasts continuous growth for hardware, software and services in the Indonesian imaging market (see table below).

Iwan Gunawan, President and CEO of Veneta System in Indonesia, welcomed with open arms numerous business guests from China and around the world. Mr. Gunawan shared with a captivated audience his methods for his business operating success amid the bustling, exceptional growth that his native Indonesia has to offer. He spoke additionally on his views regarding support and collaboration within the remanufacturing community, rather than contributing to a cut-throat environment with unruly price wars ultimately sabotaging the business community. He stressed that competition is healthy and to be embraced, however, there should be a standard which facilitates businesses to compete for the highest quality, rather than sub-par quality leading to damaging pricing. The more you see at RechargExpo, the more you feel that Indonesia is truly an INK world, and its ink sales reach as much as 90% of the market. The IDC reports that 8.4 million units of inkjet cartridges were sold in Indonesia during second quarter in 2012 – an increase of 21.6 percent on the same quarter last year. CISS is a popular item sold in this market, too. Additionally, the copier and MFP market and its consumption of monochrome toner is equally large and definitely worth of looking into. The countr y of Indonesia, with its incredible growth rate, like many developing regions, delves by leaps and bounds into advanced mobile device and social channels. Social media is very popular, and Facebook is widely used as an effective business

promotion platform to engage customers, to build client relationships, to develop trust and to establish one’s brand. Like many emergent economies with huge growth potential, it too has its challenges as obstacles to growth: an incomplete infrastructure; the need for an understanding of local culture and government rules; and a strong capacity for reading and writing in the local language, to name a few. Ultimately, cultivating solid client relationships is the first key step when entering any new market, let alone an emerging one. While the emerging market has more growing room, it can surely be crowded and chaotic. To be successful, one must both position the company's target growth area strategically and foster strong relationships with clients and customers. In sum, I hope you left RechargExpo Southeast Asia-Jakarta 2012 with the tools needed to dive into the emerging and colossal market of Southeast Asia. And I hope that the RechargExpo platform we have developed over the years has truly helped you and will continue to help you expand your business horizons and expand your wings to cover more market share and lift you to success in bringing value to your customers. Worldwide Page Volume Declined Slightly in 2011, But Developing Regions, Color and MFP Segments Remain GrowthDrivers, According to IDC Source: IDC Worldwide page volume from digital hardcopy devices* decreased to 3.09 trillion in 2011 from 3.12 trillion in 2010, a 1.0% year-overyear decline, according to new research from International Data Corporation (IDC). Developing regions led the way with 7.5% page growth when compared to 2010. Latin America and Asia/Pacific (excluding Japan) were standouts with double-digit growth in their respective regions. In contrast, page volume in developed markets declined 5.0% yearover-year. A combination of a weak economy and major industry trends such as Managed Print Services, the green movement, and document workflow automation had a dampening effect on page volume growth in developed economies. Worldwide single-function printers and single-function digital copiers declined in page volume and share in contrast to MFPs (Multi Function Peripherals), which gained both page volume and share. MFP page growth showed regional variation with developing regions recording double-digit growth rates, while developed regions settled for single-digit growth. Single-function printers showed greater declines in developed regions in terms of their installed base and page volume. For laser, MFPs are the leaders in total page volume but lag single-function printers in installed base. Worldwide laser singlefunction printers still generated a sizeable 1.1 trillion pages in 2011, but registered an overall decline in page growth of 2.4%. For inkjets, MFPs are the dominant force both in terms of both page volume and installed base. Color laser continued its penetration growth in both developed and developing regions. Developing regions continued to show double-digit page volume growth in color MFP. Color MFP pages in developed regions had single-digit growth, while its installed base grew in double digits. In developed regions, color MFP installed base growth was strong in segment 2 (11-20ppm) and segment 3 (2130ppm). Speed creep or the phenomenon of users moving up speed segment without necessarily printing more pages, contributed partly to a dampening of page volume growth.

Technology Highlights • Color laser saw increases in both developing and developed regions for overall installed base growth and page growth. Worldwide color laser page volume grew 7% year-over-year. • Mono laser saw increases in developing regions in contrast to declines in developed regions. Overall, this resulted in a worldwide decline in mono pages by 3%. • Inkjet's share of the worldwide installed base slipped slightly to 63.6% (2011) from 64.4% in (2010). Inkjet saw a 1.5% increase in installed base in developing regions versus a decline of 0.6% in developed regions. • Vendors are continuing to roll out high speed A4 devices in segment 4 (mono and color). In mono, segment 4 (45-69 ppm) A4 format devices outnumber A3 format devices and the gap in installed base is increasing. However, from a pages perspective, A3 format devices still produce at least two thirds of the total pages in mono segment 4. In color segment 4 (31-44 ppm), A3 format devices still outnumber A4 devices in both installed base and pages. Although the gap in installed base is closing, A4 devices are still significantly behind A3 devices in total pages. Vendor Highlights HP retained the number one position for overall worldwide page share in 2011. Canon and Xerox retained the number two and three rankings in worldwide page share.

Why Remanufactured Toner Cartridges are Environmentally Safe? Every year, billions of inkjet and toner cartridges are being purchased around the world. Of this, nearly 500 million end up in landfill sites. By purchasing a quality remanufactured cartridge, people can help reduce the amount of waste going to landfills. They can also minimize the need for the raw materials that are required to manufacture new cartridges. Recycling toner cartridges is a process of collecting, sorting, cleansing, treating and reconstituting, for the manufacture of new products or the re-manufacture of used cartridges. Environmental awareness grows every day and consumers demand greater accountability from manufacturers. As a result, the recycling of toner and cartridges and the purchase of remanufactured cartridges in homes and offices have become common practices throughout the world. Environmental Benefits of Remanufactured Cartridges Recyclable: A used toner cartridge consists of greater proportions of plastic, metal and certain amounts of rubber, paper, foam and toner. Almost all these materials take many years to disintegrate and can be toxic to humans, plants and animals alike. The plastic which is made of engineering-grade polymers takes at least 1,000 years to decompose. However, approximately 97% of these combined components can be recycled and reused. Conserves Resources: The amount of materials, such as plastic, steel, aluminum and rubber, being used for manufacturing cartridges are reduced. The waste disposed in landfills are excessively eliminated. Using remanufactured toner cartridges not only reduces pollution but also conserves natural resources by eliminating the need for virgin materials used to make new cartridges. Saves Energy: Using remanufactured toner cartridges also saves energy. A used toner cartridge can be remanufactured to a maximum of four times, based on its type and condition. Potentially this can save up to 12 quarts of fuel. Reduces Global Warming: Recycling cartridges helps to fight global warming. Demand for recycling will reduce the demand for the production of new cartridges and thereby decreases the emission of greenhouse gases that contribute to the greenhouse effect. This eventually reduces the impact of the changing climatic conditions all over the globe. Redesigned packaging also can help in reducing the emission of greenhouse gases. Two Million Pages Printed Every Minute in EMEA, According to IDC As previously noted, worldwide page volume from digital hardcopy devices* decreased to 3.09 trillion in 2011 from 3.12 trillion in 2010, a 1.0% year-on-year decline, according to new research from International Data Corporation (IDC). Developing regions led the way, with 7.5% volume growth compared to 2010. In contrast, page volume in developed markets declined 5.0% year-on-year. The Europe, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) region mirrored worldwide trends. While page volume in Western Europe ( WE) declined by over 3% year-on-year, Central and Eastern Europe, the Middle East and Africa (CEMA) page volume increased by almost 2%, resulting in a decline in overall EMEA page volume in 2011. "In total, over two million pages were printed in EMEA every minute. If we wanted to transport the pages printed in EMEA last year, almost 200,000 fully loaded 28-ton trucks would be needed," said Research Director Ilona Stankeova, Imaging & Hardcopy Devices Research and Document Solutions, IDC CEMA. In Western Europe, despite a growing hardcopy peripheral installed base in 2011, the average number of printed pages per device declined considerably, and as a result overall page volumes fell.* After a peak of page volume in 2010, the home and office printing market in Western Europe began to mature and is now set to decline in the coming years," said Senior Analyst Mario Lombardo, Imaging Hardware Devices and Document Solutions. The page growth in CEMA was driven by the Middle East and Africa (MEA) region, where page volume rose more than 5% year-on-year. At the same time, pages in Central and Eastern Europe (CEE) declined 0.4%. Western Europe, despite the decline, still represented over 63% of EMEA page volume. Factors that impacted page volume last year in EMEA include: increasing adoption of managed print services (MPS) or basic print services (BPS); digitalization of document workflows; environmental concerns; tightening budgets across Europe; disruption in the Middle East; and increasing volume of digital content on different platforms. Laser MFPs represented over 55% of page volume, although these devices lag printers in terms of installed base. In the inkjet market, MFPs are dominant in terms of both page volume and installed base. IDC expects that EMEA page volume will grow in the near future, although the growth is expected to be limited to certain market segments and geographical regions. From a regional perspective, MEA represents the greatest opportunity for installed base and page volume growth. On the technology side, the ongoing consolidation of peripherals under BPS/MPS will help the laser MFP market expand, but will limit pages generated by singlefunction printers. Technology Highlights • Color laser devices recorded increases of both overall installed base and page volume in WE and CEMA in 2011. Page volume generated by color laser devices grew almost 5% year-on-year in EMEA, driven mainly by the MFP segment. • Mono laser devices represented almost 83% of the installed base for laser technology and generated over 780 billion pages in EMEA. In Western Europe and CEE, the installed base of mono laser devices declined, as did page volume generated, as users migrated to color devices. In contrast, the MEA region recorded growth in both installed base and page volume. • While inkjet devices comprised almost 60% of total HCP installed base in EMEA, overall page volume printed on these devices only represented 7% of the total. The discrepancy between the large installed base and low page volume is clearly due to the users' profile. A significant proportion of inkjet printers/MFPs is used in households or smaller companies, which often have limited printing needs compared to SMBs or large organizations.

Experienced digital print technology and consumables marketers to the Asian nations are well aware that each country’s population has a different online profile to consider when determining the informational and social channels that they prefer to frequent. Assuming that the statistical breakdown that would apply to a nascent emancipation nation such as Myanmar would also apply to the more established commercial population of Japan is a critical error, and although the United States is often quoted as the standard bearer for online activities, usage in various Asian countries can be diametrically opposed to the American model. One of the countries where this phenomenon of online uniqueness is most visible is in the massive market represented by India. India’s online user base has jumped by a stunning 41% since 2011 to 124.7 million and continues to burgeon. Compare that to just 5% growth rate

in China and you’ll start to put India’s amazing “netizen”, or frequent internet user, growth into perspective. India has shown engagement has certainly kept up with its user base growth with 69.9 billion pages viewed in July 2012 alone, representing 48 billion minutes per month spent online. As in many other places around the world, Apple is dominating the tablet space in India with fully 80% of all page requests originating from iPads. Symbian and Android, however, lead the smartphone market with shares of 16% each. India’s average netizen is young and getting younger Youth is driving India’s growth as the demographic distribution. Fully 75% of India’s net users are under the age of 35, making it a nation with one of the youngest online populations in the world. The most massive demographic group of web users in India are the 25 to 34 yearolds where fully 23.7% of the total is male and 15.3 percent is female. The largest rate of growth, however, has been witnessed in the 15 to 24-year old category where males represent 21.9% of the total and females 13.7%. Of great interest to online marketers is the projection into the near future of demographic trends in India which show that in the next few years the average age of the internet user is actually going to get younger! Social Networking, Search, News, and Travel lead the pack Various categories of online activity are blossoming in India to a level well above worldwide averages. Social Networking, Search, News, and Travel are growing at stunning rates. The year-on-year growth

rates are a remarkable 43% for Social Networking and Search, 41% for Travel, and a very strong 54% for news. News sites reach a total of 50.2 million Indians and, surprisingly, U.S.-based sites are extremely popular with Yahoo – ABC News being the most accessed set of news sites and The New York Times Digital standing at number three. The venerable Times of India is the second-most accessed news site, and the rest of the top ten is made up of subcontinent sources such as OneIndia, India Today, and The Hindu Group. Facebook is growing by 47% per year In rates similar to the worldwide averages, coupon sites in India have suffered a 38% drop in traffic as most of the major players have moved over to more conventional retail forms of content. Google sites boast the highest number of unique visitors with 59.7 million in the month of July 2012, a 39% increase over the previous year. Facebook follows close behind, hosting a total of 52.1 million visitors though with a higher growth rate than Google, at 47% from the 2011 figures. Facebook has benefited primarily from the surprising implosion of Orkut usage, which has dropped a precipitous 69% in one year from 12.6 million users to just 3.8 million. Other leading social media sites have flatlined, with Twitter showing only 5% growth to 3.8 million and Bharatstudent having 2% growth to also reach what seems to be the magical number of 3.8 million. LinkedIn has been performing well among India’s online business community, with a growth rate of 36% to a total of 7.9 million users. Yahoo sites attracted 40.3 million visitors in July 2012; Microsoft sites

Video advertising is well accepted by the Indian viewer Media viewing is an enormous attraction to netizens in India as demonstrated by the BitTorrent site usage of 20.2 million, up 35% from the previous year. YouTube has the greatest reach in the Entertainment categor y with 53.7% of the total 55.8 million monthly visitors, followed by CBS Interactive and songs.pk. A total of 3.4 billion videos are viewed online in India every month, representing an average of 44.5 minutes spent, and the top YouTube channels are generally related to Bollywood productions, such as Tseries, Vevo, and YoBoHo. Of significant interest to online marketers is that video advertising has been growing at a proportional rate, demonstrating that the Indian online video viewer is accepting the serving of ads along with their videos. Consumer goods sales growing by 119% annually Furthermore, Retail has been continuing to boom among India’s internet population,

with 37.5 million visitors in July 2012 representing a growth rate of 43% per year. Established players such as Amazon sites continue to grow with 10 million visitors per month, Snapdeal and Flipkart follow close behind with 7 million, and Myntra and Homeshop represent about 5 million. Coming literally out of nowhere, Jabong has made its presence well-known in the Indian market with over 5 million visits in July 2012, which is doubly remarkable when you consider that the site was only launched this spring! Apparel showed a year-onyear growth of a jaw-dropping 362%, with consumer goods in second place with growth of 119%. Online marketers should explore nonbanking payment options Ecommerce transactions are driven by payments and India’s online population prefers direct debit or Netbanking by a prodigious 58% over all other types. Visa stands at 21% with Mastercard at 12%, but reflecting the fact that many Indians do not have banking relationships at all, cash and COD payments account for 7% of the total. Interestingly COD is expected to become

an even larger factor among Indian online users as growth occurs outside of the major urban centers where conventional banking is far less common, so wise online marketers should consider offering non-conventional payment options. Among online users with banking relationships, SBI is the strongest growing finance group, followed by ICICI and HDFC. Social media and email represent one third of all time spent online W hen it comes to total minutes of engagement, Social Networking leads the pack, devouring 25.2% of all Indian online time with Entertainment in second place at 10%, Portals at 8.8%, and Email at 8.1%. A coherent online brand strategy for digital print technology and consumables which combines social media outreach with email marketing can count on reaching an Indian netizen base which spends exactly one third of all time online in those specific activities, and therefore seems to be the logical choice for obtaining the elephant’s share of the sub-continental market!

InfoTrends Releases New Study on End-User Photo Printing Habits SOURCE: InfoTrends The digital photography market is in the middle of an ongoing change in consumer behavior, as smartphones are used by more people as their everyday digital camera. The impact of connected devices such as smartphones and tablets will not only be felt in the sales of dedicated digital cameras, but also in the way people view, share and create with their photographs. Connected devices will play a very important role in the development of the photo print market over the next few years through apps and simplified ordering processes. Consumers still need to understand the value of print to stay in the habit of printing photos, with whatever device photos are taken with. According to InfoTrends’ most recent sur vey research, most consumers are still printing photos, as nearly 73% of participants say that they print photos at least occasionally. The real change is happening in the devices used to take

photos, as 45% of survey respondents say they own a smartphone, which is up from 31% in 2011. 30% of smartphone owners also say that they use the phone most often to take photos, which is up from just 17% in 2011. The percent of respondents that own a tablet is also up considerably, from just 6% of respondents in 2011 to over 17% in 2012. It is encouraging that over 20% of respondents say they are not printing photos now but plan to in the future. Many of those that fall into this category are younger people that use smartphones as their primary camera. “Smartphones have evolved into legitimate cameras and have the potential to make the print ordering process easier than before since they’re always connected and users can order directly from their phones,” says David Haueter, Associate Director of InfoTrends’ Photo Printing Trends and Photo Merchandise Services. “However, those processes need to be user-friendly and

consumers still need to understand the value of print to make them want to order in the first place,” he continues. “Printed photos are one of the safest ways to insure that important photos will be available and easily accessible in the future, and this message still needs to be taken more strongly to the consumer market.” More consumers need to be made aware of the importance of photo printing, and stakeholders in the photo market need to work together to make sure it is easy to order prints from connected devices, such as smartphones, tablets, or connected cameras. InfoTrends recommends that retailers and vendors educate consumers on the archival benefits of printing photos as well as promoting redundanc y for safeguarding photos. Vendors must focus on the development of more intuitive photo printing apps to facilitate printing from mobile devices.

It is our pleasure to introduce your company to our readers. The purpose of this interview is to gain a clear view of INTEGRAL GmbH, its history and profile. We greatly appreciate your assistance in providing photos and written materials of INTEGRAL's many accomplishments.

RA: It has been 45 years since INTEGRAL was founded in 1966. I believe our readers are interested in its long development journey. Would you please share with us its history, growth (past

and present), and future development? Mr. Jan Hagemann, INTEGRAL GmbH: INTEGRAL was founded in 1966 and was active in the international paper business at that time. In the early 1970s, INTEGRAL entered into the toner business. Back in 1973, INTEGRAL developed and manufactured its first commercial toner. Since then, we have developed and manufactured a lot of high quality toners and will continue to do so. In particular, our state-of-the art production plants in Ireland, France and Germany enable INTEGRAL to develop and offer our “Toner for Better Images” at attractive prices. RA: As a long-established professional toner manufacturer, what is your view on toner market growth, especially with respect to OEM vs Aftermarket? Mr. Jan Hagemann, INTEGRAL GmbH: The world economic crisis has yet to end. However, in general, weaker economic periods or a recession do tend to have a positive impact on the aftermarket in mature economies, with a large share of the market moving away from expensive OEM products to more costeffective aftermarket products. So, with this respect, a recession can be an opportunity to grow the aftermarket. We do see a further increase in the share of the aftermarket in the toner market. RA: What is your main product line that makes INTEGRAL stand out, as well as its competitive advantage? Mr. Jan Hagemann, INTEGRAL GmbH: INTEGRAL has many attractive product lines which we offer to our customers at attractive prices. One of the most important advantages of INTEGRAL toner is that the raw materials it is made of are not only of the highest grade but have also all been REACH certified. In order to explain this advantage, we have to take a look at the recent past. Two years ago, a new chemical law was introduced in Europe, called REACH. The purpose of this law is to protect the consumer from being

exposed to dangerous chemicals. Toner is not such a chemical, but rather a preparation of chemicals. In order for a toner to be sold legally within the countries of the European Union, it needs to be in compliance with REACH. INTEGRAL spent significant amounts of money to register under REACH twenty-two different chemical substances used in the manufacturing of the toner. This is for the benefit of our toner customers. Remanufacturers sourcing their toner from INTEGRAL are making sure to have a product available that is in full compliance with REACH and are therefore also able to sell their products within the European Union. RA: Toner, as a chemically polymerized product, has a high technical and quality requirement. What kind of QA process does INTEGRAL have in place to maintain and improve quality? Mr. Jan Hagemann, INTEGRAL GmbH: Strict quality control is built into all of our toner manufacturing processes. Quality control starts with raw materials. INTEGRAL uses exclusively high quality, specialty raw materials which are carefully tested in the QC lab prior to their actual use. During the manufacturing process of the toner, all physio-chemical properties are checked to ensure that all manufactured toner is within specification. In addition, INTEGRAL conducts extensive printing and copying tests of every lot produced. For all of these strict QC

processes, INTEGRAL operates an extensive QC lab with all the relevant measuring and testing equipment, as well as over 200 different printing and copying systems. RA: As the industry gears toward green, bio-toner becomes a hot topic. What is your view on it, and is there any plan to launch bio-toner products? Mr. Jan Hagemann, INTEGRAL GmbH: INTEGRAL is keeping an open mind at this stage on the matter of bio-toners. Whether we will offer bio-toners depends on the development of the market demand. From a technical point of view, the production of bio-toner is not such a big challenge. The real problem is that the so-called biotoners currently available in the market seem to have disappointing print quality compared to conventional toners. Like all environmental issues, biologically-oriented products attract a lot of attention around the globe. When we look at what is offered by the so-called bio-toners today, it cannot be ignored that only a very small percentage of the material contained in these toners is made from bio mass products. On a typical mono-component toner, the bio mass resin content in the product would probably be only about 20% of the total raw materials contained. There are even studies showing that the carbon footprint of merely making the so-called bio-toner is worse than that of a conventional one, so the environmental advantage of such biotoners are very little and it could be misleading to call this a product with an environmental advantage. They are not bio-degradable either, as the bio mass content is encapsulated in regular resin. In addition, there is the discussion as to whether agricultural land should be used for the production of food instead of growing crops that go into the manufacturing of products. It probably would make a lot more sense to produce the toner cartridge shell from bio mass material rather than the toner contained in it.

CEO ON THE GO RA: Recharge Asia magazine, as an influential industry publication, aims to help Western companies, such as INTEGRAL, penetrate Asian markets. Do you have any future plan to do so? If yes, what could we do to assist? Mr. Jan Hagemann, INTEGRAL GmbH: At present, we sell our line in over 80 countries to customers who are looking for products with OEM equivalent performance at significant cost savings. These countries do also currently include frontier markets such as China, Brazil and India. However, especially within the South East Asian markets, Indonesia and Malaysia are interesting for us. Our participation in RechargExpo 2012, hosted by Recharge Asia magazine in Jakarta, is a first step towards opening these markets. We expect this show, and our participation in it, to be a great success. RA: INTEGRAL's success story is instrumental to many other aftermarket companies. Would you like to share with our readers some of your hard-learned experiences in its growth? Mr. Jan Hagemann, INTEGRAL GmbH: Toners are becoming ever more complex and sophisticated. There will be a bright future for those companies who are able to stay on top of toner technological development, and those who are able to come up with the right products at an early stage after the launch of the corresponding printers. It is important to make a difference in the market in order to generate the margins necessary to continuously develop new products. We believe that those who only sell on price and without the ability to explain the advantages of their products might succeed in the short term but probably will not stay around for a long time. Quill.com Recycles More Than One Million Ink and Toner Cartridges Cartridge Recycling Program Helps Customers Save on Ink and Toner and Reduce Environmental Impacts Quill.com announced that it has recycled more than one million ink and toner cartridges in 2012 through its national Ink and Toner Recycle Program, launched in 2011. The Quill.com Ink and Toner recycle program one of the first programs of its kind, allows customers to recycle their cartridges essentially from their desks. Customers simply download a free pre-paid mailing label and mail the used cartridges to Quill.com. Two weeks after receiving the cartridges, Quill.com deposits $2 per cartridge, up to $20 per month, into the customer’s Quill.com account to use on their next purchase. The returned cartridges are either reused as remanufactured cartridges or their parts are broken down and used in the production of other office supplies. “Through the Quill.com Ink and Toner Recycle Program, customers can help reduce environmental impacts from used cartridges and find great value in their ongoing purchases of ink and toner,” said Quill.com Vice President of Merchandising, Sergio Pereira. “Quill.com is committed to sustainable business practices. Not only does this program help the environment but it helps our customers with more savings. It’s a win win.” Quill.com has collected a total of 912,663 pounds of used ink and toner cartridges. Canon Announces Resolution of Patent Infringement Disputes Canon announced the resolution of patent infringement disputes with Clover Holdings, Inc., Clover Technologies Group, LLC, Clover Vietnam Co., Ltd., Dataproducts USA, LLC, Dataproducts Imaging Solutions S.A. de C.V. and CAU Acquisition Company, LLC dba Cartridges Are Us (collectively, Clover) in the International Trade Commission and the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York, concerning certain toner cartridges and their photosensitive drums sold for use in Canon or HewlettPackard laser beam printers. As a result of the resolution, Clover has stipulated to a Consent Order from the International Trade Commission and will stipulate to a Consent Judgment and Permanent Injunction from the Southern District of New York, which will prohibit Clover from making, using, selling and offering for sale in the U.S., and from importing into the U.S., the toner cartridges and their photosensitive drums which Canon accused of infringement. Clover will also make to Canon a payment of an undisclosed sum in connection with the resolution. Throughout the development, sales and marketing process, Canon respects the intellectual property of other companies and individuals and expects others to similarly respect Canon's intellectual property rights. Canon remains committed to pursuing legal enforcement against those who do not respect Canon's intellectual property.

Despite Growth in Many Emerging Markets, Worldwide Large Format Printer Shipments Decline 5% in the Third Quarter of 2012, According to IDC While many emerging markets posted growth in the large format printer (LFP) market during the third quarter of 2012 (3Q12), these gains could not offset a decline in total worldwide shipments. According to the International Data Corporation (IDC)Worldwide Quarterly Large Format Printer Tracker, overall shipments in the worldwide LFP market declined 5.0% year-over-year to just under 73,000 units in 3Q12. Among the emerging regions, Latin America, Central and Eastern Europe, and the Middle East enjoyed growth, albeit single digit, in the third quarter. However, these gains were not evenly distributed as emerging markets declined 3.9% overall while mature markets declined 5.8% year-over-year. "Although shipments have slowed over the past year, IDC expects large format printers to remain a significant market in the future," said Phuong Hang, program manager, Worldwide Large Format Printer Tracker. "LFPs are moving into new applications, especially in graphics, that will help to offset losses caused by the sluggish global economy."

Roland enjoyed 9.3% year-overyear shipment growth in the third quarter, producing a small uptick in overall share. Roland’s strength is the graphics market, in which it held fourth place worldwide, unchanged from a year earlier.

Technology Highlights • The technical application segment saw 42,500 units shipped in 3Q12, yet declined 3.4% year over year. Despite this contraction, technical remained the larger market segment with 58% share of the total LFP market in the third quarter, up from 57% a year earlier. Mature and emerging markets both declined at about the same rate, with each market having some regions increasing, but offset by declines in other regions. • The graphics application segment fell 7.0% year over year in 3Q12 with shipments of 30,400 units accounting for 42% of the market, down from 43% a year ago. Mature markets showed a higher rate of decline than emerging markets in this segment. The bright spot was Latin America, which showed modest single-digit growth, while all other regions were flat or negative. Vendor Highlights • Despite a year-over-year decline of 10.1% in shipments, HP remained the global market leader with 42.4% share, a drop of more than two points from a year earlier. HP remains the clear market leader in its traditional area of strength, the technical market, with more than three times the share of its next competitor. HP also held its second place position in the graphics market, trailing market leader Epson. • Epson remains in second place in the LFP market overall, but continues as the leader of the graphics applications segment, with double the share of the next vendor, HP. Shipments declined slightly year-to-year, but Epson was able to hold its share at 20.4% overall. While technical printers are only a small part of its LFP sales, Epson has grown shipments and increased share in this segment over the past year. • Canon's shipments increased moderately in the third quarter compared to a year earlier, enabling the vendor to increase its share to 16.2% and hold its number 3 position in the overall market. Canon increased its share in both the technical segment, in which

Remanufacturing the Brother HL 4150 Series Toner Cartridges TN-310/315 Color Toner Cartridges By Mike Josiah, Technical Director of UniNet Imaging

Mike Josiah Mike Josiah is the Technical Director at UniNet’s East Coast office, a global distributor of toner, Smartchips, OPC drums, and other toner remanufacturing components. Mr. Josiah is an industry veteran since 1987, and a member of ASTM committee F.05, the STMC Technician Certif ication committee, as well as an STMC trainer. He and his support team at UniNet contribute with technical articles to industry trade magazines, and conduct seminars at association meetings and tradeshows worldwide. The Brother HL-4150 printer engine is based on a new 25-30 ppm black and color, 2400 x 600 DPI color LED engine. The machines come standard with 128Mb expandable to 384Mb of memory, and all run off a 400 MHz processor. All models come standard with duplex built in and some have wireless interfaces. With print speeds of up to 30ppm and street pricing starting at $289.00, these machines have become very popular. The toner cartridges do not have a reset chip on them, but do have a reset gear that must be positioned properly for the machine to accept it as a new cartridge. The proper reset position of the gear will be covered later in this instruction. The gears themselves can be a bit confusing as there are different configurations worldwide. Basically it comes down to this. For High yield cartridges (3.5 or 4K) color or black use a Grey reset gear. For Extra high Yield cartridges (6k) color or black use a Black reset gear. Starter cartridges are considered to be a Standard yield and do not come with a reset gear. Any starter cartridge can be converted to a HY or EHY cartridge. In different areas of the world different yields are available so there is not a separate color reset gear nor a separate black reset gear. Below is a chart of which cartridges are used in what location, the part numbers and yield. The gear that should be used for each is indicated by the yield. As the cartridge is used, the bias voltage is reduced gradually down to a lower voltage. This process is necessary because according to Brother, a new toner cartridge has a tendency to print light. As the cartridge is used, the density increases (Lower voltage = higher density). To keep the density level even throughout its life, the density bias voltage is reduced

accordingly. Each time a new cartridge is installed, the reset gear engages the gear train. The rib on the reset gear pushes down on the new toner sensor. The bias voltage is then reset, and the cartridge page count is reset to zero. HY cartridges have different stages set for the bias voltage than an Extra high yields cartridge does. That’s why there are two different gears While the cartridge yield is stated in pages printed, it actually is based on the revolutions of the developer roller. The larger the run, the better the yield. There are roller cycles for every print job and automatic ones too. There is the warm-up cycle, color registration cycle, developer bias cycle etc. As these cycles are normally run once per job, the bigger the print job, the better the yield. There are multiple revolutions for each cycle and some will run upon turning the printer on or opening the front cover. They can range from 35 rotations to as much as 262 rotations for each function so you can see how they can add up quickly. Brother has charts that cover different sized print jobs and how they relate to the total effective yield. Once a new blade is available, great care will have to be taken not to tear the seals, causing a leak. The doctor blade can be easily cleaned by blowing the excess toner off, and wiping down with a lint free cloth. Printing Test Pages Printer Setting pages: Press the OK button 3 times while the printer is in the READY state. The printer will show “Print Settings/printing” on the LCD. Some machines will run 3 pages, some will run 4. Machine Trouble shooting The machine error codes are in plain English so there is no need to go into them here. Resetting the toner cartridge. If for some reason a machine will not reset using a reset gear, the machine can be reset through the menu. 摘要:光电成像卡盒是激光打印机,复印机,传真机等设备里的成像核心部件,更是 现代办公室中消耗量最大的电子器件。由于废弃的光电成像卡盒的再利用价值,在市 场驱动下成像卡盒的再生利用已自发形成了互补的产业链,对节能减排保护环境做出 了贡献,但由于缺乏规范市场的法律法规的正确指导,或因拆解不当除对环境产生不 良影响外,还会造成对再生利用资源产生破坏作用,本文除重点介绍成像卡盒再生过 程对环境产生的影响外,还提出了提高废弃卡盒再生利用率是减少对环境影响的最佳 治理方法的建议 , 供制订产业政策和从事成像卡盒再生利用企业参考。

三、废弃成像卡盒处理方法及利用方式

国产喷墨机基本格局已经初步 形成 Domestic Inkjet Structure has been Initially Formed 日前,从佛山市新景泰机械设备有限公司总经理彭基 昌处获悉,目前国产喷墨机在国内市场的基本格局已经初 步形成,希望、美嘉和新景泰三家机器占据国内市场总额的 80%。这种基本格局和去年业内众多人士的推测和估计差不 多。国外的机器,由于水土不服及价格过于昂贵等诸多原因, 市场份额的增长非常有限,而国产机则在今年水涨船高,势 头迅猛。 早在今年 5 月份,本报评论文章《抢占“喷墨蛋糕”本 土企业“当仁不让”》一文中曾经对喷墨市场的未来走向有 过详细预测分析,认为最终本土的喷墨机企业将会成为国内 市场的主流。鉴于本土企业服务陶瓷行业长达十余年之久, 与各大陶企之间形成的默契是外企所无法介入的,也是其他 行业的喷墨机制造商一时半会无法领悟的,故此,在讲究诚 信和售后服务的陶瓷行业来说,本土的企业如新景泰、美嘉 和希望将更具竞争力。 “业内消息传播得非常快速,喷墨机的性能,使用效果 如何,往往很快就大家心知肚明了,价格也是一样。目前, 喷墨机的市场价格基本回落到了一个正常的范围内。所以, 在性能基本差不多的时候,大家买机器比较多的是在对比价 格。”彭基昌告诉记者,经过大半年的市场竞争和验证,部 分外来企业 ( 包括外企喷墨机制造企业和部分非陶瓷行业制 造喷墨机的企业 ) 增长份额正在逐步放缓。 在国内喷墨机市场呈爆发式增长的时期,希望、美嘉和 新景泰三家企业的销售纷纷捷报频传,短短半年多的时间, 新景泰和美嘉迅速确立了自己的市场地位,这的确是值得关
