Lexmark/Static Control Case Changes the Rules of the Game for False Advertising

HP's Latest Suit Against Ninestar Could Have Far-Reaching Implications HP is suing Ninestar and Apex Electronics for infringing three of its patents, all concerning ink cartridges. While this is not the first case of its kind, this one may prove to have far-reaching consequences for all parties involved. For starters, this is not the first time HP has complained about Ninestar infringing its IP on two of the patents. This happened in 2006 and the case was settled between the two parties. In 2009, HP brought a case against another group of companies, again for the infringement of the two patents, the '687 and the '301. Once again, matters were settled between the parties.

A much publicized lawsuit that printing major Lexmark brought against Static Control, a manufacturer of components for remanufactured ink cartridges, may change how similar cases are treated in the future, according to Danielle DeFilipis, an attorney specializing in commercial and IP law. Lexmark, which adds a microchip to its cartridges in order to disable them once they are empty and prevent their reuse with a non-Lexmark ink, and alleged Static Control is inter fering with its efforts to protect its intellectual property. Static Control, however, countered with claims that a program devised by Lexmark to encourage users to return their empty cartridges, the Prebate scheme, was in breach of the Lanham Act on false advertising. The Supreme Court, after circuit courts failed to resolve the issue, devised a whole new test about whether a false advertising claim has standing. The new test consists of two elements: a zone of interests and a proximate cause analysis. Employing this test, the court established that Lexmark had proximately caused injury to Static Control by using deception to discourage consumers from buying the latter's products. According to DeFilipis, this ruling could either increase the amount of litigation in the industry or reduce it. There is no clear sign about which way things would go. In any case, however, the new test is becoming increasingly popular with other courts as well, with the question of interpretation of the test's elements in each individual case remaining.

Ninestar has maintained that HP's patents are valid and enforceable, and Apex has focused on developing its own chips in a way that will ensure they are not in violation of HP's patents. The company has also embarked on an aggressive campaign to distance itself from any patent-infringement claims. However, these two patents may become questionable, if not all three of them. The problem is that it is difficult to see the processes and products described in them as actual inventions -- an issue that the Supreme Court has criticized the patent Office for, though not with regard to these particular patents. The risk for HP lies in the possibility that the court will invalidate its patents if it finds they lack the necessary features of an actual invention. The company will hardly want to see this happening. In fact, there has already been a decline in patent infringement lawsuits this year, after a court invalidated a company's patents on the grounds that they did not constitute anything more than an abstract, and therefore unpatentable, idea. It remains to be seen whether another internal settlement is on the table for HP, Apex and Ninestar, or if both will decide to take things to the courtroom. Whatever the outcome, the case could change the way business is done in the printing sector.

How Epson Printers are Responding to Needs in the Photo Print Industry

Photo printing has come a long way from the days when photographs were developed at the local pharmacist or printing lab, but no matter the changes in technology that make photography digital, wireless and stored in the cloud, consumers still want to hold or frame a tangible print of their treasured memories. Even so, the photo printing industry has had to adapt as technology has evolved from complex, chemical-heavy film development and printing that took up to a week to deliver, to the arrival of the one-hour photo lab (that never really took just one hour), to the modern-day photo printing shops that offer plug-and-print technology, or wireless solutions that allow consumers to print straight from their personal devices. This change is not in response to a single development either, if you'll pardon the pun. When the first portable digital camera was introduced to market, it forced photo printing laboratories everywhere to change the way they did business. Not only were they compelled to purchase new equipment and different consumables, their customers were printing fewer photographs, because they could choose their prints beforehand, rather than trusting fate and the developing process, before having to throw unwanted pics in the ‘boo-boo bin'. Many labs were forced to close their doors, and those that survived had to change their business models, their equipment and their premises to balance the needs of their customers with the cost efficiencies of a new way of doing business. It's not just the photo printing companies that have had to adapt – the producers of photo printers have also had to invest in new technology that keeps pace with the changing ways people take and share photographs. Epson, a global leader in printing and imaging technology, has always aimed to provide its customers with comfort and affordability – and established itself as an innovative tech company in the process. The company developed the world's first small, lightweight digital printer in 1968, putting Epson at the forefront of printing innovation. Over the years, from the time it developed its first commercial inkjet product, the SQ-2000, Epson has launched a number of world-firsts that have revolutionised the industry. Among these are the Epson Stylus Colour, which was the world's first highresolution 720-dpi colour inkjet printer, and the Epson Stylus Photo, which was the world's first inkjet photo printer. Today, Epson maintains its innovative approach to photo printing by offering affordable photo printers that make it easy for consumers to print their favourite memories, while also offering compact and cost-effective solutions for the modernday photo-lab owner.

These businesses have had to adapt at pace as the photography industry has evolved, with photography labs adjusting their stores to the minilab or kiosk format. The early 2000s were a particularly turbulent time for those in the photography industry - for printer developers and photo-labs alike - but there has been a massive revival in the industry of late, and this development has largely been driven by smartphones - and their accompanying high mega-pixel cameras. The saying that the best camera is the camera you have on hand has become increasingly true, with high-tech smart phones fitted with high resolution cameras now considered the norm. The days of carrying cumbersome cameras, multiple lenses and numerous packs of film are long gone - apart from the top-end professionals who need the variety of lenses, but who are still spared the clutter of film canisters. Photographs captured on mobile phones now dominate walls of a different kind: those on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Pinterest, Flickr and all the other social media sites in existence today – with accessible photo printers making it possible to easily have those images on real-life walls too. There are more images being shared today than any other time in history - with cameras and photo editing software at anyone's fingertips, and the ability to share your experience only a click away. The technology to capture and edit moments is easy and convenient, and some observers have noted that the only reason photo printing is ‘dying' is because the printing industry has not been keeping up with the convenience and spontaneity that mobile phone photography has made possible - and this is where Epson finds its gap. Mark Kidd, from Mark Kidd photography, reiterates just how important it is for the print industry to keep up with the needs of businesses - especially small enterprises looking for the best return on their investments. Kidd, who used to own a chemical lab, recently purchased an Epson D700 to enable him to do photo printing from his home. "It is the best decision I ever made," he says. "I am so impressed with the convenient size of the printer, which makes it really suitable for at-home printing. The chemical printing at photo labs simply doesn't match the

color range offered by the Epson line of printers, it really is impressive." However, it is not only in the small business sphere where Epson's photo printers are first choice - they make it possible for tourists to take home prints of their experiences at tourist facilities, without even needing to take their own photos. The Lion Park, one of Johannesburg's biggest tourist attractions, originally subcontracted a mobile photographer to capture photographs for visitors and print them on site. However, a more comprehensive solution, offering top-quality prints to visitors, saw the facility install an Epson SureLab SL-D3000, and they have already received and installed the Epson SureLab D-700 printer. The company has prepared an ambitious growth strategy that will see its footprint in the South Asian country become even larger. it will also aim to tweak its product and service offering reflecting topical global trends in the industry. Printing products and services will take center stage in this expansion quest. Konica Minolta already has a 26% market

HP Split Spurs Speculation - Which Kid Will Succeed? HP's recent announcement that it will be separating its PC and printer business from corporate services has been long awaited and seems to have met with general support. This is especially true of its corporate hardware and software arm -- it seems to be considered the healthier of the two. There is, however, some concern about HP Inc., the company that will focus on the printer and computer business. According to some market observers, the best chance for survival for HP Inc. would be the release of the 3D printer that the company has been talking about for so long. It is no secret that printer and PC sales have been declining considerably in the last few years and the only thing that seems to keep this business on its feet are ink sales, with their considerable profit margin. Others, however, believe that HP Inc. is better placed to succeed after the split for a number of reasons. These include lower expectations, solid ink cartridge revenues and, not least, growth opportunities in emerging market, offsetting the decline in print tech demand in the developed world. Only time will show who was right and who was wrong but there seems to be a consensus that the split was exactly what the company needed. Both the printer/PC business and the hardware/software/service arm have their individual advantages and disadvantages, so what remains for anyone interested is to keep a close eye on developments.

Schools, Universities, Hospitals Hold Greatest Potential for 3D Industry 3D printing is the hottest topic these days -- although the machines are still expensive, prices are declining quickly and the popularity of the technology is growing at a very fast pace. The potential applications of 3D printing are endless but there are three sectors, where growth potential is the greatest, according to British analyst Ashley Camm. First, there is secondary education. An increasing number of schools in the UK are allocating budget money for 3D printers as part of their design and technology curricula. However, one issue at this stage is the cost of associated consumables. While for 3D printing companies the fact that the technology has a whole network of consumables around it, ensuring sustainable profits, for institutional users such as high schools, this could be a problem as budgets are limited. Yet, as speed is not an issue in an educational environment, this problem can be solved by using more affordable machines and cheaper filaments. Universities boast bigger budgets, so they can afford bigger 3D printers to suit their needs. While at the moment these 3D printers are as a rule bought from specialized 3D printing firms, the market is gradually opening up to more providers. The same is true for healthcare establishments -- they have the budget and they are increasingly getting aware of the benefits 3D printing can offer them, so they are investing in it.

3D Systems’ Third-Quarter Profits Beat Forecasts 3D Systems, one of the biggest players in the 3D printing field, reported earnings per share (EPS) of $0.18 apiece for the third quarter of the year, on a non-GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) basis. Although the figure beat analyst estimates, it was 37.8% lower than the EPS for July-September 2013. On a GAAP basis things looked worse, with EPS at $0.03 apiece, down 82.4% on the year. According to the company, the decline was a result of higher costs along with limitations in manufacturing and delivery. Demand for 3D Systems' products, however, remained robust. New orders in the period reached $46 million, up 44% from the second quarter. The order backlog at the end of September totaled $8.3 million. While a significant increase in research and development expenses resulted in a major shrinking of operating margins, from 21.1% to 4.9%, gross margin remained solid, at 47.8%. Product-wise, design and manufacturing 3D printers contributed $155.2 million to overall revenues, up 27% on the year, and revenues from print material sales rose 18%. Total revenues stood at $166.9 million in the period, up 23% on the year.

Stratasys Launches 11 New Models 3D printing market major Stratasys is not sitting by idly while the industry booms, resting on old laurels. No, the Israeli firm is now launching 11 new printers and a range of new materials, targeting customers seeking high-performance 3D printing. Among the novelties that these machines will offer their users are the capability of printing an item using three base materials simultaneously, and speedier fused deposition modeling production times, by up to 20%. The new 3D tools that the firm will start marketing soon, are food processing ones and tools to be used in medical device sterilization. Six of the 11 new printers will offer the triple-jet technology for printing with three base materials, three of them with smaller print platforms, and three that are targeted at larger industrial enterprises. Another two, the Fortus 450mc and 380mc, are specifically designed for prototyping using a range of thermoplastics. In the household segment, Stratasys unveiled the Objet30 Prime Deesktop, which allows the user to choose from 12 filaments, two printing modes plus a draft mode to test prototypes. At the other end of the scale is the Objet Eden 260VS for clients in the medical industry, for instance, who require high-quality 3D prints of delicate, detail-rich objects such as dental instruments.

3D Printing Is a GameChanger but Slow 3D printing is surrounded by a lot of hype and a growing number of venture capital investors are focusing on this industry. Customization is, perhaps, the major attraction of the technology, with startups banking on individual solutions tailor-made for every single client. In other words, 3D printing is changing the face of manufacturing. Yet, don't expect to start driving a 3D printed car anytime soon.

Forensics Start Reconstructing Faces with 3D Printers

Take Boeing, for example. the aerospace giant is definitely interested in additive manufacturing, 3D printing's other name -- but does not plan to start making component parts with 3D printers for the next two decades. Given the degree of safety these component parts need, it's easy to understand the skepticism.

It was only a matter of time -- using 3D printing for facial reconstruction. While in the past restoring a person's features was done manually, using clay, now there is the software and the printers that help forensics do this more quickly and accurately.

Another thing is that all the talk and excitement is breeding some forecasts that will never come to be. Medical devices and prosthetics are a definite reality already but 3D printed food? Yes, there are attempts to synthesize it from juice but whether it's worth the effort is doubtful. After all, eating a real orange is much faster and easier, although there may be implications about remote areas with a shortage of fresh produce. Still, at this point, such applications of 3D printing are rather far-fetched. Even so, 3D printing does indeed have a growing range of potential uses. What's more, with the technology advancing at lightning speed, prices are going down and 3D printers are getting closer to households. Open-source platforms like Autodesk's are one of the major factors that are contributing to this quick advancement and the resulting drop in prices. All in all, the future of the 3D printer is very bright. Just don't expect to wake up to the new, 3D-printed world next week.

Stratasys Books 35% Revenue Growth in Third Quarter Stratasys, one of the market leaders in 3D printing, reported revenues of $204 million for the third quarter, up 35% on the year. The bottom line, however, remained red, with a net loss of $31.4 million, disappointing analysts who had expected Stratasys to surface from the negative territory. The company, however, spent a lot on acquisitions, so excluding these costs, it would have booked a positive net result of $30.1 million. Upbeat about its prospects, Stratasys said it still plans to generate revenues of $750-$770 million for the full year. At the same time, however, it took a cautious move regarding adjusted profits, revising down its expectations to $115 - $120 million. The revision followed the acquisition of GrabCAD and is not as significant as it may seem, as the previous profit guidance was $117 - $122 million. On a non-adjusted basis, Stratasys expects a net loss of $31.6 - $24.4 million.

The two processes are actually pretty similar in that they work with layers: manual facial reconstruction uses the skull as foundation and builds up the face layer by layer. A major drawback in this process is that the skull could get damaged. So, here is where one company, Engineering and Manufacturing Services (EMS), comes in. Florida-based EMS worked with a county coroner's office in the identification of a person whose remains were discovered two years ago. The company employed Z Corp's Z Scanner Z800 to create a 3D model of the skull, and then sent it to SensAble Technologies. The latter has developed a feature called "Clay Tools", which imitates the build-up process that forensics usually do manually. After the reconstruction was complete, EMS 3D printed the final item in color using Z Corp's Z650 printer. It is a fact that facial reconstructions are not admitted in court as evidence because even with all the knowledge in the world, facial features remain subject to the individual interpretation of the artists working on them. Yet, 3D printing has made it possible to retain the reconstructed face as part of an investigation or even put it on display in suitable circumstances.

HP Introduces Smart Printing Capabilities with New Large-format Printing Mobile App HP has announced the new HP Latex Mobile application, which allows HP Latex 300 Printer series customers to remotely monitor their printers, track job status and receive printer alerts. The Odyssey® 2 toner for use in HP® P2015 cartridges was developed in-house and provides improved fusing and higher image density compared to other aftermarket offerings. HP Ready to Release New Computer

Following the split of the imaging and computing major into two, CEO Meg Whitman is making good on one promise: to offer new computing experiences on the market. The first of these will be unveiled next week and its name is Sprout. Sprout combines a flat screen display with a touch-enabled work surface, and also includes an overhead station consisting of a 3D scanner and a projector. The projector shows images on the work surface and the user can manipulate t h e m u s i n g n o t h i n g b u t t h e i r h a n d s o r, alternatively, a stylus. The 3D scanner, for its part, comes into play if the user wants to add new elements to the original image or an entirely new image. Sprout, which will initially be only Windowscompatible, in future will also be able to run on ChromeOS, according to insiders. No price details have been revealed but the initial target group for the product will be the business world. using it, businesses can showcase their products in a more life-like manner than before: for instance, a fashion designer could show a customer how an outfit would look on them. it will also make it easier for sellers to help buyers with their decisions. Yet, Sprout will also come in handy for teachers and other professions where presentations are part of the work.

BCMY Ltd Recycle Laser & Toner Printer Cartridges Using a Bunting Magnetic Drum Extending BCMY’s ability to efficiently and effectively manage old laser and toner cartridges was the primary objective behind their latest development of a new recycling line and the installation of a Bunting Magnetic Drum. BCMY Ltd, based in Lansing, West Sussex, is one of the UK’s premier processors of used printer cartridges and receives materials from across the UK and Europe. With over 12 years’ experience in handling secondary ink and toner cartridges, growth of 25-30% per annum over a 5-year period resulted in moving to new premises in 2010, since when BCMY has continued to expand. Bunting Magnetics Europe Ltd, with their European manufacturing facility in Berkhamsted, Hertfordshire, specializes in designing and manufacturing separation technology including Magnetic Separation, Metal Detection and Eddy Current Separation. At present, only around 15% of the 250m ink and 25% of the 40m toner cartridges used in the West-Europe are recycled, with the majority ending up in landfills, where it can take more than 1,000 years to decompose while being a threat to ground water pollution. In addition, they are classed as a hazardous material, due to the chance of explosion from the small particle size of the toner dust, and any post-consumer processing needs to be expertly managed. On receipt of the used laser & toner cartridges, BCMY makes a decision on whether the item can be reused or if it needs to be recycled. At present, approximately 62% of all cartridges received by BCYM are reused and saved from entering the internal waste stream, although the growing number of poorer quality replicas and compatibles (15%) originating from the Far East and a growth in remanufactured cartridges (20%) means that an ever increasing number need to be considered for internal recycling. There remains a high global demand for specific virgin empty cartridges despite increased competition from the Far East. However, the overall percentage of cartridges collected that can be re-used, is falling. The disposal options for high volume cartridge producers are becoming more limited with the introduction of tighter waste legislation and a reduction in industry capacity to deal with the non-reusable cartridges. With landfills no longer a legal option for high volume producers - waste to energy plants, due to the cartridges high calorific value, is now the favored route of disposal. However, this raises a number of other environmental issues. BCMY made a decision to extend their business services by specifically enabling the physical recycling of the non-reusable cartridges. A prototype facility was designed and built by the BCMY team using their extensive knowledge of the used cartridge industry. At present, with capacity of approximately 2000 units per day, they manually remove the hazardous toner dust and are then left with a co-mingled case made of mixed

rigid plastic and metal. The empty cartridge shells are fed into a slow speed shredder for size reduction and liberation and then up an incline conveyor before passing over a strong Magnetic Drum supplied by Bunting. The Magnetic Drum separates all magnetic materials, such as steel components, springs and other small ferrous metals and ceramic magnets, from the nonmagnetic plastic. Post this primary separation stage, the plastic fraction is further shredded for additional liberation before being passed over an Eddy Current Separator to recover nonferrous metals such as aluminium. The high strength model DSH-1212-NPD Bunting Magnetic Drum is 300mm (12”) diameter by 300mm (12”) width and was supplied complete in a housing with a direct shaft-mounted drive. Material is conveyed up to the hopper by the incline conveyor and then cascades down onto the surface of the Magnetic Drum, where the strong magnetic field attracts and holds magnetic materials, carrying them underneath and then out of the field so that they drop into a separate container. The plastic non-magnetic material is unaffected and follows its normal trajectory into a separate collection bin. The magnetic field is produced using permanent Rare Earth magnets, producing a deep and very strong magnetic field ideal for the application. There is approximately a 42% metal content in each cartridge, which is then sold as an end product. The recovered plastic which is made up of (PS, ABS, PET, PP, POM, and HDPE) is also resold for a wide variety of applications including the production of plastic wood .The hazardous toner powder is used as a colorant in the manufacture of plastic, in tarmac and in marine paint for boats. When assessing the equipment they needed for the recycling plant, Simon Gilchrist, Managing Director of BYCM, undertook a great deal of research before making the decision to purchase the Magnetic Drum from Bunting. Simon commented, “Bunting was a local company and we were able to visit their facility to witness testing on our material. We really appreciated Carlton’s advice [Carlton Hicks, UK Sales Manager] and the testing meant that the separation Bunting claimed was possible was 100% proven and we could purchase with confidence. We wanted to work with a UK manufacturer so that the equipment would be UK built and not purchased through the reseller of an importer. The installation has been very successful and we have further plans to expand the facility next year. We are currently trailing further Bunting Magnetics equipment: A Cross Belt/Overband Magnet to automate removal of larger ferrous materials from the line in order to reduce the wear on the primary shredder and an In-Line Pneumatic Metal Detector to further improve the separation and reduce metal contamination of the plastic output.”

Remanufacturing the Brother HL 2300 Series Drum Cartridge DR-630 By Mike Josiah, Technical Director of UniNet Imaging

Mike Josiah Mike Josiah is the Technical Director at UniNet’s East Coast office, a global distributor of toner, Smartchips, OPC drums, and other toner remanufacturing components. Mr. Josiah is an industry veteran since 1987, and a member of ASTM committee F.05, the STMC Technician Certification committee, as well as an STMC trainer. He and his support team at UniNet contribute with technical articles to industry trade magazines, and conduct seminars at association meetings and tradeshows worldwide.

Released in July 2014, the Brother HL-2300 printer engine is based on a new 27-32ppm, 1200 DPI laser engine. These machines have a first page out in less than 8.5 seconds, and come standard with 8 or 32Mb of memory depending on the machine. The HL-2300 series also have duplexing built in. Our HL-2360 machine came with a Starter cartridge which is rated for 700 pages. The starter cartridge does not come with any reset gears. The DR-630 drum unit is rated for 12,000 pages. There are two different toner cartridges available for these machines, the TN-630 is rated for 1,200 pages and the TN-660 is rated for 2,600 pages. There are different part numbers for these cartridges depending on your region. They are as follows: North/South America Europe Asia/ Middle East/Africa Oceania

In case you missed it, we are covering the theory again.

New Brother Print Theory: As with previous Brother cartridge’s, the waste toner is repelled off of the drum to be transferred to the toner unit, but the

method of how this works is now very different. The waste toner still is transferred to the supply chamber, and this remaining toner still MUST be completely removed from the supply chamber before adding new toner. Failure to do this will cause back grounding. In addition to contaminating the toner cartridge, this may also contaminate the cleaning section of the drum cartridge, which in turn will contaminate the toner cartridge again. The reasons for this are explained in the following cartridge theory section. The first new item in this engine is there is now a paper cleaning roller in the printer itself. This roller cleans off any extra paper dust before the printing process even starts. It is located just after the paper feed rollers. The cleaning section of the drum cartridge no longer consists of a "cleaning brush" it is now a paired system of the cleaning roller assembly and the transfer roller but these rollers only play a minor part. The developer roller now has two jobs. In addition to transferring the good toner to the OPC for printing, it also now cleans off the majority of the waste toner off the drum. This is done by a very complicated series of different electrical charges and a series of directional changes on the drum and developer rollers. The developer roller and drum change direction and charge 4 times per full drum rotation. This is such a complicated process that the printers actually have a rotation controller PCB with a microcomputer on it to control it all. The cleaning roller cleans off any remaining toner that the developer roller did not remove. The transfer roller basically self cleans itself of any residual toner or paper dust that might have accumulated in the printing process When the drum is cleaned by the transfer roller the surface potential of the drum is dropped (from 900V to about 200V) at this point the transfer roller and cleaning roller will release the waste toner to the drum. This waste toner is actually then charged by the corona wire so that the developer roller can pick it up and bring it back into the toner hopper. Both rollers release the waste toner at the same time. This was done to keep the print speed high, the power supply smaller and the cost on the two rollers and cartridges down.

The drum unit also now has a small waste chamber next to the cleaning roller. The reason for this waste area is for things like paper dust that do not transfer well. Since there is a paper cleaning roller before the cartridges in the printer this area in theory should stay fairly empty. The metal roller next to the cleaning roller helps keep the cleaning roller free of anything that does not transfer Since the developer roller now does most of the cleaning work, the condition of the roller while always important, is now much more so. If the roller has any contamination on it from the toner additives, (OEM or aftermarket) it will interfere with the cleaning cycle and ghosting/backgrounding will result. If the cleaning roller gets contaminated and not cleaned properly the same thing will result. The main culprit for this used to be the charge felt. It is now the developer roller. It is very important that the developer roller be cleaned with a dedicated developer roller cleaner. Never use alcohol of any type as this will strip the conductive coating off the roller Since the waste toner is transferred back into the supply of the toner cartridge. Once you print with a bad toner cartridge, the drum unit will become contaminated. Even when you change out the toner with a good properly recycled or new OEM cartridge, the drum unit will transfer some of the bad toner back into the good toner cartridge, which will again cause back grounding. Both cartridges will be contaminated again. It can be a vicious circle. The remaining "toner" in the toner cartridge when toner low is reached is just below the bare minimum that can maintain the proper charge level. When the change toner light comes on, the toner will not charge up to the proper level and will cause the back grounding. As the toner cartridge reaches the end of its useful life, the printer senses the low charge level in the toner supply and will try to keep the charge level up. This constant charging keeps an almost "empty" cartridge from back grounding. Once the printer cannot get the remaining toner up to the minimum charge, the change toner light comes

on. The cartridge at this point will still be printing properly. If you were to take that same cartridge out of the machine for a few days, and then put it back in the printer without doing anything to it, the cartridge will background. This will happen because the charge level that the printer was trying so hard to keep up has dissipated out and the materials left can no longer accept a proper charge.

What does this all mean? 1) Make sure that your cartridge technicians thoroughly clean out the supply chamber of the toner cartridge. 2) Clean the developer roller with an approved developer roller cleaner. (NOT alcohol! That will strip the conductive coating off)

According to our tests, there will be approximately 45-50g of toner left when the cartridge is spent. This is normal. The toner left however as stated above is waste toner/paper dust only and must be thrown out or there will be backgrounding issues.

In either case the transfer roller in the drum unit needs to be cleaned and the toner cartridge replaced. (See the printer/cartridge operation theory at the beginning of these instructions).

Resetting the drum counter: There are several machine groups and each has a different reset procedure. The groups are deter mined by the display type. Each group is listed below: Figure 17

前言: 几年前我们谈经济全球化,大多是有政治色彩或是从技术角度上谈论,如今,电 子商务已是全球化的趋势。电子商务作为一个颠覆性的营销模式,正在渗透影响到各 行各业。2012 年淘宝电子商务销量一万个亿,2013 年天猫在“双十一”一天的销 售额 350 亿,利润是 1850 万元,2014 年“双十一”当天国内主流电商的销售额 突破 1000 亿元。这些变化,逼得传统零售巨头“苏宁、国美”不得不转型,逼得“李 宁服装”关掉了全国 1800 多家专卖店,连天上发了卫星的“沃尔玛”都难以招架, 在中国战略投资了新电商“一号店”。显而易见,网络购物的大潮已扑面而来,以传 统渠道模式销售的通用耗材产品,必将面对巨大冲击。 中国兼容耗材行业的现状:大部分厂家尚未开展网络营销,或虽有投入但效果不 佳。困惑于厂商竞争激烈,网络阵地空白,目标受众模糊。有少部大品牌厂商已在网 络开展销售,取得好业绩。有的公司积极转型,进入电商后有很大改观,个别微小公 司起步于电商,在摸索中也有不错的发展,现进行几点分析,与行业共享。

参加 2015 年 RechargExpo 土耳其展 之宗教风俗注意事项 土耳其是一个横跨欧亚两洲的国家,其气候属地中海气候,南部和西部气候温和, 夏季干热,冬季多雨:黑海沿岸,凉爽湿润;内陆、东北、东南则冬季寒冷,夏季干热。 土耳其是伊斯兰合作组织(简写为 OIC)成员国之一,伊斯兰合作组织是伊斯兰国家组 成的国际组织,顾名思义,大部分土耳其人都是穆斯林,信仰伊斯兰教。全国有 98% 的人信仰伊斯兰教,剩余的 2% 信仰基督教和犹太教等。 我们的 2015RechargEXPO 土耳其展将在伊斯坦布尔举办,这座城市里的居民大 部分是穆斯林,有少量的基督教徒和犹太教徒。为了给参加 2015 年 RechargExpo 土 耳其展的广大中国参展商提供便利,并且成功参展,以下我们特别整理出了有关伊斯兰 教和穆斯林的详细资料,请广大参展商参考。 伊斯兰教在饮食、服装、卫生、婚姻、丧葬、商业等方面有许多禁忌,这里我们主 要谈谈其在饮食和社交方面的禁忌。 饮食 饮食问题在人们生活中占据着极为重要的地位,对于穆斯林来说也不例外。伊斯兰 教在饮食方面的禁忌限于如下四种东西:自死物、溢流的血、猪肉和“诵非安拉之名而 宰的动物”。《古兰经》除了在肉食方面提出了禁忌要求之外,它还要求教徒禁止饮酒、 赌博、求签等等。 伊斯兰教在肉食方面做出如上规定的同时,对植物性的食物没有任何禁忌。但是伊 斯兰教严禁饮酒,也禁止饮用一切与酒有关的致醉物品。所以,一切有危害性及能麻醉 人的植物或可食植物,如葡萄、大麦、小麦等一旦转化成能致醉的饮料,如酒一类的东 西,就成为禁忌的对象。同时,伊斯兰教还禁止从事与酒有关的营生。所以一切比酒更 有害于人身体的麻醉品和毒品也都在严禁之列。所以,如果有的参展商需要和客户一起 饮食时,请提前询问客户是否为穆斯林,能否饮酒,以表示对客户的尊重。另外,土耳 其风俗禁忌忌讳用左手传递东西或食物,认为左手是不洁的,使用左手传递东西或食物 是对人极大的不敬,并有污辱人的嫌疑。因此,请广大参展商提起注意。 社交 土耳其人社交习俗总的特点可以用这样几句话来概括:土耳其人生活细节土耳其人 喜欢邀请客人到自己家中做客,并一定会十分殷勤地招待。咖啡、香烟、点心、水果要 让客人一一品尝,最后还会邀客人下次再来。朋友见面要先亲左右颊 , 较不熟的则握手。 到别人家里做客时,记得要脱鞋。在土耳其,人们保留着一种古老的传统习俗,普遍都 对大蒜怀有特殊的感情。因此,人们都愿意在自家门口挂上几瓣蒜,用它来逢凶化吉。 请谨记,土耳其人不喜欢议论有关政治及塞浦路斯与希腊的冲突等方面的问题,对无异 议的国际问题、家庭、职业以及个人的业余爱好等话题喜欢谈论。所以在交谈时最好避 开政治方面的话题。 土耳其人非常热情,他们非常喜欢外国客人用土耳其语同他们讲话,哪怕刚刚学会 一句同他们对讲,他们也会因此而对客人格外亲热。即将参展的客户不妨学习几句简单 的土耳其语以增进和客户之间的感情使交流更加愉快、顺畅。土耳其人喜爱花,尤以郁 金香更受他们的青睐。郁金香在土耳其人的心目中是幸福的象征、爱情的信物,并被尊 为国花。对绿色、白色和绯红色偏爱,认为这几种颜色给人以积极向上的印象。

参展二十年心得体会 全世界那么多客人,但是很有意思的是,其实每个产品可能一个国家就 那么一批固定的客人在做。我有一些总结出来的参展经验想告诉我们的外贸 人员,希望有用。 在土耳其旅游注意事项是:

1、精神面貌要好

● 法律规定室内严禁吸烟,如果吸烟时被邻桌 举报,举报人可以向政府要奖金,因此请注意 不要在室内抽烟。当然,抽水烟不算。

3、微笑 我有注意过一个问题,不知道有没有人有同感。中国人不大会微笑,发 自内心的微笑,不是那种礼仪小姐培训出来的露多少颗牙齿的微笑,那种太 假。 在说话的时候不要皱眉头,如果没听清一句话不要就皱着眉头问,欧美 人在同样情况下是挣大一下眼睛。欧美人的面部表情非常丰富,从脸上可以 开出来他们在想什么。几个月前我看过一期非你莫属,有一个从澳大利亚回 国的女孩子找工作,最后和主持人吵起来了。其实那个女孩子就是受外国人 的影响太大了,她的动作表情完全就是一个正常的外国人,主持人是小人之 心了。如果有人在你的展台路过的时候看了一秒钟,你马上微笑着打个招呼 并递上一张名片并请他进来看看。注意,不要献媚,要得体。 4、记性要好 其实可能买你的产品的在每个国家就是那几个人,今年不买明年不买, 保不准后年就买了。如果你得到一张名片进行过一些交谈,如果可能的话,

2015 Remax Asia Expo Closes Succeessfully

一、专利形势分析 首先,北京莱盛高新技术有限公司 的副总经理杜海泳,介绍了 10 月珠海展 会 高 峰 论 谈 会 上,SCC 的 CEO 对 于 专 利事件的看法。他说:1987 年 WTO 后, 在全球成立了专业理事会,之后每年申 请的专利以 9% 的速度增长。中国的兼 容耗材模具鼓,应该叫“克龙”产品, 是模仿,出口到国外的成品属侵权行为。 近期,韩国汉普就遭遇了深痛的专 利索赔事件。目前欧洲、美国和日企是 对立状态,没人敢在日本市场去做专利 事件,美国成了主战场。我们的企业如 果出口到欧美市场,要注意原装厂商动 向,了解行情,杜总谈到这个风险时表示: 莱盛公司在国外已不做粉盒了。 冷工说:专利的背后是利益。我国 1985 年颁布的专利法,是参照德国欧洲 系统做的,完全按这个专利是不利于中 国的。国内组织了两次修改专利法,国 际上并不满意。法律是有底线,不能突破。

人陈迎辉从实战操作上,与大家交流了 通用耗材政府采购的经验。她说 : 目前通 用耗材采用协议定点的采购方式,对于 招标文件要认真阅读,逐条核对。有三 点经验可与大家分享,1. 要了解国家政 策; 2. 了解客户需求;3. 把好产品质量关, 服务及时。 走进政府采购市场,代表了通用耗 材得到国家认可,政府单位对于自主技 术产品的支持,同样也是真正进入与原 装耗材同台竞争的市场。去年中央国家 机关政府采购通用耗材 1800 万,还不到 原装厂商的三分之一。小陈鼓励大家:
