PUBLISHER'S MESSAGE JULY 2014

Dear readers: Do you feel that 1) we are significantly more connected than ever before via social media and that 2) we live in a vast digital space, much deeper and broader than we could have imagined twenty years ago? I echo what Andy Serwer, Managing Editor of Fortune Magazine, has said: "Connectivity is perhaps the biggest opportunity of our time". Modern technology makes the world smaller and closer, and it is clear if a company's infrastructure is digitally built well, it will be in the driver's seat. Our marketplace is going to be more complicated, more mobile, more global than ever, and we can't afford not to pay full attention. Facing and embracing a rapidly changing market, our editorial team was compelled to compile an issue that focuses on e-commerce, social media, the "internet of things", and the reasons why we need to understand these social trends and their disruptive impact on our lives and on our business. Please read this month's informative articles: "Why You Need to Understand the Internet of Things" by Kathy Volger, and "Ecommerce Marketing Tips Which Will Distinguish You from Amazon.com" by Curt Keller. In conclusion, clearly the biggest connectors will be the biggest winners. The questions for you to answer are whether or not you are there yet or what you could do to get there. Albert Einstein once said: "A ship is always safe at the shore, but that is not what ships are built for". Take risks to navigate and ride the waves that would eventually lead you to the safe shore. Enjoy a good read in the cool summer breeze.

Seth Godin’s three essential questions for every marketer: “What’s your story?” “Will the people who need to hear this story believe it?” “Is it true?”

RECOMMENDED

READING

All marketers tell stories. And if they do it right, we believe them. We believe that wine tastes better in a $20 glass than a $1 glass. We believe that an $80,000 Porsche is vastly superior to a $36,000 Volkswagen that’s virtually the same car. We believe that $125 sneakers make our feet feel better—and look cooler—than a $25 brand. And believing it makes it true. As Seth Godin showed in this controversial book, great marketers don’t talk about features or even benefits. Instead, they tell a story—a story we want to believe, whether it’s factual or not. In a world where most people have an infinite number of choices and no time to make them, every organization is a marketer, and all marketing is about telling stories. As Godin writes, “Stories make it easier to understand the world. Stories are the only way we know to spread an idea. Marketers didn’t invent storytelling. They just perfected it.”

Worldwide Hardcopy Peripherals Market Maintains Its Growth Trajectory in the First Quarter of 2014, According to IDC FRAMINGHAM, Mass., June 4, 2014 – The worldwide hardcopy peripherals (HCP) market grew for the third quarter in a row to 26.4 million units shipped in the first quarter of 2014 (1Q14) resulting in 2.1% year-over-year growth, according to the International Data Corporation (IDC) Worldwide Quarterly Hardcopy Peripherals Tracker. The two biggest regions, Asia/ Pacific (excluding Japan) and Western Europe, recorded yearover-year increases of 5.5% and 7.1% to 7.7 and 5.4 million units shipped, respectively. Three of the global top 5 vendors – HP, Epson, and Brother – recorded year-over-year growth in 1Q14. HP benefited from the Ink Advantage program for end customers and promotions to channels and end-users. Epson's year-over-year increase was due to the vendor's multifunction printer (MFP) expansion. The Expression series continued to lead the way as Epson renewed its instant rebate program ranging from $20 to $150 on most of the models in this series. Other notable results include Ricoh's making the worldwide top 5 list for laser printers for the first time ever. The vendor achieved outstanding results in both EMEA and Asia/Pacific (excluding Japan). Year-over-year growth of 9.8% was helped by the vendor's recent ramp up in color MFPs. Ricoh has also been pushing its "Services-Led Approach" among its channel partners, which is slowly beginning to pay off. "Aligning with IDC's prediction that 2014 would be a year of growth and sales execution is the fact that ongoing vertical opportunities will be an important target for the hardcopy peripherals vendors. To effectively execute sales in these opportunities, sales reps will need to be deeply educated on that vertical. Common vertical targets are already in place and typically include the traditionally documentintensive healthcare, financial, public sector, and legal markets. One vertical that we expect to hear more about in 2014 is manufacturing," said Phuong Hang, Program Director, Worldwide Hardcopy Peripheral Trackers.

Technology Highlights • Losing share to laser technology, inkjet registered 58.4% of overall shipments in 1Q14, down 3 points from last quarter, while laser devices gained 4 points to 38.0% share over the same period. Five of IDC's eight regional markets saw year-over-year growth in laser shipments with the Middle East & Africa leading the way at 16.6%, followed by Asia/Pacific (excluding Japan) at 11.2%. • Monochrome laser devices accounted for 80.1% of the laser market with 8 million units shipped in 1Q14, resulting in 2.6% yearover-year growth. Color laser grew 8.9% year over year to more than 2 million units, resulting in a 19.9% share of the total laser market in 1Q14. This marks the fourth consecutive quarter where the color laser segment showed positive year-over-year growth, contributing to a 3.8% year-over-year increase for the total laser segment.

28

www.rechargeasia.com

Vendor Highlights • HP led the global HCP market with 40.3% market share in 1Q14. The vendor grew 6.5% year-over-year, the second highest year-over-year trend among the top 5. HP posted positive year-over-year growth in five of IDC's eight regional markets. The vendor continued its year-over-year growth in Asia/Pacific (excluding Japan) due to the expansion of its reseller network outside metropolitan areas. • Canon continued as the second-ranked vendor with 18.5% market share and 4.9 million units shipped. Canon's shipments declined -7.2% year-over-year due to less than stellar results in six out of eight regional markets. Contributing to the decline was the retirement of many older models in 1Q14, while new or replacement models were few. In addition, some of the models launched in the prior quarter did not gain as much traction due to a cyclically slow quarter. • Epson held the third place ranking with 14.3% share and close to 3.8 million units shipped. The vendor recorded positive yearover-year performance in all of its top 3 regions, including Asia/ Pacific (excluding Japan), Western Europe, and the United States. The vendor's expansion was driven by its MFP product line. The Expression series continued to lead the way as Epson renewed its instant rebate program ranging from $20 to $150 on most of the models in this series. • Brother ended the first quarter of 2014 with more than 2 million units shipped, resulting in 1.5% year-over-year growth. The vendor achieved 42% year-over-year growth in Japan due to its winning of a few big deals. • Samsung rounds out the top 5 in the total hardcopy peripherals market with approximately 1.6 million units shipped in 1Q14. The vendor declined -7.3% year-over-year in 1Q14, resulting in 6.0% market share, down half a point from a year ago. Samsung grew 5.8% year-over-year in its biggest region, Asia/Pacific (excluding Japan), where significant wins were recorded in various sectors, including government, banking, and enterprise. Growth Continues Unabated in Middle East and Turkey Hardcopy Peripherals Market as Concerns over Recession are Consigned to the Memory Bank The Middle East and Turkey hardcopy peripherals (HCP) markets continued their strong recovery from recession by posting their third successive quarter of growth in Q1 2014, according to the latest insights from International Data Corporation (IDC). The research and advisory firm's Quarterly Hardcopy Peripherals Tracker for Q1 2014 shows that shipments to the combined region were up 13.1% in volume and 18.2% in value year-overyear, with all the key country markets growing at impressive double-digit rates.

A stable economic outlook for the region, coupled with an easing of political tensions, has resulted in an increase in investment in infrastructure projects. This has, in turn, had a positive impact on demand for hardcopy peripherals, with color laser devices proving particularly popular in Q1 2014, reporting phenomenal year-on-year growth of 56.1% to total almost 100,000 units. Color laser revenues grew at a slower rate of 38.3% due to declining average sales prices (ASPs), and IDC expects to see an even faster erosion of ASPs in this segment over the coming quarters as vendors strive to increase the acceptance levels for color printers across the region. "The successful resolution of the damaging inventory shortages that were experienced in Q1 2013 (particularly in the color laser segment), together with the new distribution partners appointed by some vendors in the region, have had a positive impact on shipment growth in the Middle East region," says Ashwin Venkatchari, senior program manager for imaging, printing, and document solutions at IDC Middle East, Africa, and Turkey. "While the trend is a very clear indication that the region's HCP market has well and truly come out of recession,

the immediate challenge facing vendors is how effectively they can protect and grow their market shares by offering attractive value propositions for their products and services." Overall inkjet shipments were up 7.0% year on year in Q1 2014 to total approximately 443,000 units. Revenues grew at a much higher rate of 20.5%, with growth in the higher price bands (particularly the $400+ category) serving as the major driver. Mono laser shipments increased 12.9% over the same period to total almost 498,000 units, with revenues up 11.3%. The mid-to-high-end segment was the primary driver of growth in the mono laser category. Serial dot matrix (SDM) shipments also saw healthy year-on-year growth in Q1 2014, at 9.6% in volume terms, thanks largely to strong tender activity in Saudi Arabia and significant reseller demand in the UAE and the rest of Middle East. Revenues, however, were down 10.9% over the same period. For more information about IDC’s Quarterly Hardcopy Peripherals Tracker, please contact Ashwin Venkatchari at avenkatchari@idc.com.

India's Hardcopy Peripherals Market Grew Marginally in the First Quarter Due to Government-led Demand Despite the slowdown in the consumer segment, a recovery in the India Hardcopy Peripherals* (HCP) market was seen in 2014 Q1. The growth was primarily driven by the Government’s procurement and supported by the Medium and Large Enterprises in India. According to the International Data Corporation (IDC), HCP* market in India grew 1.5% sequentially in 2014 Q1 and reached 801,000 units in terms of shipments. This was largely driven by the Government’s buying in the Laser segment, which recorded a significant sequential growth of 12.8%. But on the other hand, Inkjet segment performed weakly due to low consumer demand across all price band segments, resulting in a marginal growth of 1.5%.

sequential decline but the highest decline was seen in Canon this quarter

Mohammed Riyaz Ahmed, Market Analyst at IDC India, says, “Excluding the Government business, the demand of Laser printer is slowing among the Medium and Large Enterprises due to the combination of national and state elections where Enterprises decided to hold their purchase till the new Government is in. However, overall business from this segment was stable due to the financial year-end purchase, where corporate would like to use up their remaining budgets. All these factors collectively led to the growth of the Laser market.”

Laser HCP* (Printer-based) Market:

Vendor Share - India HCP* Market, 2014 Q1 (% of Shipments)

• HP’s focus continued to be Ink Advantage series, with Canon announced many new models recently “All the leading vendors had a bit of inventory issues earlier. But later in the second half of the quarter, a lot of new campaigns and marketing activities were seen in the Inkjet HCP* market. As a result, a recovery is expected in the next quarter with vendors targeting back to school season.” says Mohit Raizada, Senior Market Analyst, IDC India.

• Market has grown by 9.3% in terms of unit shipments in 2014 Q1 as compared to 2013 Q4 • The surge in Government business was the prime reason for growth; it was also supported by the stable channel business • HP continued to be the market leader with a share of 52.1%, followed by Canon and Samsung at the second and third position • Ricoh expanded its Government business and remained at the fourth position in 2014Q1 with a little increase in their market share

Laser HCP* (Copier-based) Market: • A very high sequential growth of 68.4% was seen in 2014Q1 • Q1 has traditionally been very strong for Copier and the trend continued this year. This was primarily due to strong Government buying but demand from the Enterprise segment was high too.

Source: IDC India Quarterly HCP Tracker, 2014Q1

The Overall HCP* Market: • HP managed to achieve 48.3% shipment share in 2014 Q1 and remained as the market leader in India • This was followed by Canon and Epson with 16.4% and 10.5% share respectively • With increased sales in the Government segment, Ricoh emerged into the fourth position in 2014Q1; it was closely followed by Samsung with just a marginal difference in market share

Inkjet HCP* Market: • Due to low consumer demand and marginally high inventory, Inkjet HCP* market witnessed a sequential decline of 15.5% in 2014 Q1 • All the leading vendors in the Inkjet HCP* market recorded

30

www.rechargeasia.com

• Ricoh’s market share has grown tremendously to 30.0% in 2014 Q1 as they were among the few vendors to bag major deals in Government sector. • Canon also recorded a high sequential growth of 20.9%; but moved to the second position in 2014 Q1, followed by Konica Minolta at the third position

IIndia HCP* Market Forecasts: “Printer industry in India is moving to the next level where vendors are mapping and targeting key accounts and industries with the solutions and services approach, and are modifying and building their portfolio accordingly. In addition, more focus on Managed Print Services (MPS) will also be seen the coming year,” adds Raizada. “On the consumer side, vendors are also identifying and analysing customer needs and requirements and aggressively marketing and repositioning their products to reach the right target buyers.” *Note: Hardcopy Peripherals (HCP) includes Inkjet, Laser, SDM & Line Printer but does not include A6 Format Printers Source: IDC

Currently, manufacturing depends on complex facilities and logistics. 3D printing could change that by allowing for much more precise customization and accelerating the design process. Perhaps the only good news for traditional manufacturing is that large-scale production is still impossible with 3D printers. This, however, does not mean that 3D, or additive, printing has no place in industrial production. For one thing, it saves tooling costs and reduces waste. According to the chief economist of GE, Marco Annunziata, by 2020 more than 100,000 aircraft parts will be 3D printed at the company, reducing the weight of an aircraft by 1,000 pounds and, as a result, fuel consumption. According to a report by McKinsey, 3D printing will penetrate the manufacturing sector much deeper by 2025, with companies changing the way they add value to their products, increasingly focusing on customization. This will ultimately harm economies that rely on lowcost scale production. In short, 3D printing will lead to the decentralization of manufacturing, turning even consumers into manufacturers, and scale reduction.

SmarTech Issues Latest Report on Personal 3D Printing, Sees $1 Billion (USD) Market by 2019 The market for personal 3D printing products and services will reach $1.05 billion (USD) by 2019 says the newest report from SmarTech Markets Publishing. According to SmarTech's new report "Personal 3D Printing Markets: 2014 – 2023", equipment will represent the largest opportunity in the personal 3D printing markets, accounting for 65% of the total market. For further details on this report including extracts from the report see: http://smartechpublishing.com/reports/personal-3dprinting-markets-2014-2023. SmarTech will also be holding a Webinar on July 15th to discuss the findings of this report. The report follows recent releases addressing 3D printing/ additive manufacturing in aerospace, medical, dental, materials, and bio-printing markets, as well as SmarTech's annual comprehensive forecast and analysis of the 3D printing market. For details of SmarTech's reports see: http://smartechpublishing. com/reports.

About the report:

This report includes in-depth, ten-year market forecasts for equipment, materials, software, services, and scanner markets for personal 3D printing. SmarTech breaks equipment and material forecasts down further into separate forecasts for FDM machines and the emerging personal SL equipment category. In addition, the report forecasts the addressable market and adoption rate for personal printing equipment out to 2023. This report also includes market share estimates for the leading brands of personal 3D printers.

From The Report: SmarTech sees the gap between large personal printing companies and lean newcomers closing over the next ten years. Senior Business Analyst Ian Forsyth, the author of the report states: "As we see a dizzying number of companies popping up seemingly overnight, a few players are really beginning to distinguish themselves as a cut above the rest. We believe Afinia, Formlabs, PrintrBot, and Ultimaker have the management, expertise, and vision to continue to grow their already impressive customer base in this area."

This new report from SmarTech identifies key developments happening in the personal 3D printing space. Focused market analysis is designed to give decision makers a better understanding of the shifting competitive landscape and how to best position their company for long-term success. Key opportunities in equipment, materials, software, services, scanners, and peripherals are analyzed thoroughly to give manufacturers and service providers an edge over the competition.

SmarTech identifies four distinct price tiers in the personal 3D printing market: Entrepreneurial/Low-end professional, Prosumer, Consumer, and Compact printers. These price tiers will stay relatively fixed over the next five years as manufacturers attempt to use incremental innovation to ratchet up the price of these product categories. Meanwhile, creation of lower price tiers will occur gradually and step-wise, with "significant" price decreases occurring every 18 months or so. SmarTech sees successful companies in this space adapting their technologies to sell into multiple price tiers.

"Personal 3D Printing Markets: 2014 – 2023" begins by addressing new developments and emerging themes in the personal 3D printing industry. Among other important topics, RepRap, Makers, crowdsourcing, and geographic location are analyzed for their strategic consequences. SmarTech also uses a series of key analogies in the laser printing, photo editing software, gaming consoles, microwave oven, and powered lawn-care tool industries to project future trends in personal 3D printing.

An increasing installation base of printers will also yield large opportunities for 3D printing peripherals, according to SmarTech. Large 3D printing online communities create major opportunities for "killer apps" in the form of co-creation software and ways that allow users to interact with CAD/CAM designs in new and intuitive ways. Meanwhile, SmarTech believes that educational customers will have a high demand for filament extruders as they look print disposable objects in high frequencies.

The report then goes on to break down the current structure of the industry, along with the major players within it. Companies addressed in this report include: 3D Systems, HP, Stratasys, Beijing Tiertime, Afinia, Fabbster, HP, Printrbot, Aleph Objects, Formlabs, Solidoodle, Ultimaker, Zortrax, Airwolf 3D, FlashForge, Type A Machines, HoneyPoint 3D, Hyrel 3D, MakerBot and many others. In addition, opportunities in personal 3D printing software are addressed, as are the burgeoning opportunities in polymer filaments and resins, filament extruders, and scanners.

Patent Expiration Fails to Stimulate 3D Printing Market The expiration of patents for selective laser sintering, which constitutes a high-quality 3D printing technology, in January was thought to lead to a booming development of the 3D printing market, letting more players on it, but these forecasts failed to realize. The hopes pinned on the SLS technology stemmed from the fact that unlike most 3D desktop printers which use plastic, it is fed with powdered material. It then employs a laser to bind the powder together and create a solid shape. It’s easy to see why the expiry of the patents, held by Carl Deckard, was expected to transform the market, adding variety to the product lines of the big 3D printer manufacturers. But it has turned out that it is these large manufacturers that are stopping the trend from progressing. Firms like Stratasys and 3D Systems have already applied for the technology, making it very difficult for smaller players to tap the patent bank. This means that any revolutionary development in this industry has been postponed.

The Plastic Bank Uses Ocean Plastic Waste for 3D Printing The Plastic Bank has created the first 3D printed object using plastic waste from the ocean that has been recycled. The project, according to Plastic Bank co-founder Shaun Frankson, could help poor nations exchange plastic waste for access to opportunities to improve the lives of their populations and plastic will once again be a valuable raw material. The organization has been working on this initiative for some time and this is the latest step in the process. The plastic waste was recovered at the shores of Alaska and was then sent for recycling to UBC. It turned it into 3D printing filament which was then used to print a wrench. The Plastic Bank aims to turn plastic waste into a currency that would help reduce both poverty and plastic waste.

3D Systems Joins Forces with Konica Minolta 3D Systems, one of the biggest players on the 3D printing field has closed a strategic partnership with Konica Minolta for the distribution of 3D Systems’ products. The company plans to start initially with a couple of products and them move on to offering its full portfolio. The deal is the latest in a series aimed at expanding the company’s presence in a range of industries. Under the deal, Konica Minolta will distribute 3D Systems’ printers in the manufacturing, healthcare and education industries. The company is a leading provider of enterprise content management services, technology optimization and cloud services. The terms of the deal will see Konica become the first original equipment manufacturer distributing 3D printing products via the traditional channel for printers and office equipment. In just the last six months 3D Systems has partnered with Hasbro, Hershey and Staples, making inroads into their respective business sectors. Then last month it sealed a partnership deal with ScanSource, which has just expanded its business into the sale and support of 3D printing equipment.

3D Printing Services Providers Need To Expand Capacity The 3D printing industry is undergoing consolidation, with big players like Stratasys and 3D Systems both recently acquiring 3D printing services providers, aiming to expand their own service and product offering. 3D services are a growing market segment, with an increasing number of people and businesses taking advantage of the technology without having to invest in equipment themselves. One of the main advantages that 3D printing service providers boast is the speed of turnaround. French Sculpteo, for instance, usually does orders within eight business days, and sometimes in as little as five days. As speed is so important in this field, service providers will have to take on more capacity to be able to satisfy demand. This in turn will benefit printer makers. According to 3D expert Steve Heller, investors interested in the industry should monitor these demand patterns in the future to see how the business is shaping up.

Apex Unismart Chip Reset System Shone on Russian Business-Inform Apex Microelectronics participated in the 2014 Business Inform exhibition held May 20-22 in Moscow, Russia. Apex’s new technologies were brought into the spotlight and the creative chip reset system, Unismart, especially caused a big stir among those who attended the event.

Apex Unismart Chip Reset System On the morning of May 22, Apex gave a speech w i th th e top i c “ Un i sm a r t C hip Resetti n g S o l uti on s-O n l y f rom Apex Microelectronics”, drawing in a large number of local remanufacturers and refill stores. The Unismart system was first introduced six years ago and has been well-received ever since. In its public appearance this time, it impressed the Russian market with its advantageous convenience. Most remanufacturers experience headaches with chip replacement, like chip inventory management, and import tariffs and freight charges, which could be comparatively high across the vast Russian land. The Unismart is precisely designed to deal with these troubles. It allows users to directly reset chips without changing chip hardware; and it charges users by “credit”, which is purchased through the Internet. In this way, a new

chip is ready through six steps of easy operation. In recent years, the Russia market has seen a great deal of similar chip reset products, yet Apex’s Unismart is unparalleled in chip model coverage, model update efficiency, and user-friendliness. One member of the speech audience commented that it is a “revolutionary product”, and will “bring more convenience to our refilling business”. Apex also held a drawing after the speech. A local remanufacturer got from Apex a Unismart device for free. Besides the Unismart chip resetting system, Apex also presented its SOC chips at the exhibition. As the most cutting-edge chip technology in the industry, SOC allows communication rates closer to OEM, and much more chip functions. Chips with SOC technology are therefore more stable and reliable on OEM firmware update resistance.

Apex’s speech on Businessinform

Apex, the pioneer of chip technology, has long been working on SOC R&D. It possesses the right to use the exclusive self-IP CPU core within the industry, which is the premise of Apex SOC designs for various chip function requirements. Apex’s replacement chips for Samsung 101/111/115/116 series, Lexmark MS/MX/ CS/CX series, and Lexmark E260/T650 series, are all SOC-based and received a lot of attention at the exhibition. The Russia market, as an emerging market, has its own characteristics with respect to region, government’s attitude on the aftermarket and on IP. Apex Microelectronics cherishes the possibility of a bright future in this market and believes that such future lies with its respect of the market and its deep understanding of customer requirements. HP, Kyocera Apply Circular Economy Principles in Manufacturing Two of the largest players on the international printer market, HP and Kyocera, are applying principles of circular economy to their manufacturing process. HP, for one, boasts that 75% of its inkjet cartridges are made using closed-loop technology, with recycled parts from used up cartridges as well as other plastic waste such as bottles. Kyocera, on the other hand, is focusing on design for disassembly. Its laser printers now don’t have cartridges, which has cut by 55% the carbon footprint of the products, by 85% the waste it yields and has led to cost cuts of 54% per printer. HP says that almost a quarter of its Laserjet Toner cartridges include some recycled content. As of last year, the company had cut its carbon footprint by a third and had also reduced its fossil fuel consumption, by 54%, and water consumption, by 75%, just by using recycled instead of new materials in its cartridges. Kyocera, for its part, is building its printers in such as way as to make disassembly as easy as possible. Their components are clipped together, rather than fixed with metal screws. But legislation still has to catch up with Kyocera and its likes that are betting on disassembly. Currently, e-waste regulations don’t recognize the value of materials that are being recovered and only take into account the amounts of e-waste collected and processed, not the value of components. This means that instead of being disassembled and components separated before recycling, the design-for-disassembly printers are likely to end up shredded. This will reduce the value of the resulting materials as it will get them mixed.

HP Launches Instant Ink Service Hewlett-Packard is now offering its customers a distance monitoring of the levels of ink in their printers and supplies of fresh ink before they run out. Pricing is based on the number of pages typically printed every month, starting at £1.99 for 50 pages, £3.49 for 100 pages and £7.99 per 300 pages. The service will be first provided to John Lewis and PC World and it will also be available online. According to HP, it will save customers around 70% of the usual costs associated with the replacement of ink cartridges. In case the customer uses less than their monthly allowance of pages, these are put into a rollover account and applied to pages exceeding the monthly allowance at another point in time. These pages, however, cannot exceed twice the set allowance per month.

Brother Releases New Printer Range Brother wills tart marketing a new range of color laser printer aimed at small and medium businesses. The printers will have a capacity for up to 6,000 pages a month. So far Brother has been dominating the monochrome market but with this new range it seeks to tap the color printer market as well, the company said. The new series, L8000, features six models, of which some with high yield cartridges, capable of printing up to 4,000 pages, and the others with super high yield cartridges, capable of printing up to 6,000 pages. HP To Cut 16,000 More Jobs Hewlett-Packard said it will be laying off an additional 16,000 people, after earlier announcing a job cuts target of 34,000 aimed at reducing costs. This second wave of layoffs could lead to savings to the tune of $1 billion, to be added to the maximum annual savings of $4 billion that the company targeted earlier. Jobs will be cut across divisions and geographies and will take place over the current and the next fiscal year of the company, with 7,000 expected to be made by the end of this year. The announcement too market analysts by surprise. When she stepped in as CEO, Meg Whitman had said HP will cut 27,000 jobs. This number was later expanded to 29,000 before reaching 34,000 and now the striking number of 50,000. Asked about the reasons behind the upward revision of layoff plans, Whitman said they had to do with finding new growth opportunities fo

Epson New Inkjet Line Displays PrecisionCore Printhead Epson’s new line of office inkjet printers has a sort of a secret weapon that makes them perform better than their laser counterparts. This weapon is the company’s proprietary PrecisionCore printhead.

In its most basic form as a chip, the printhead can pack 600 nozzles per inch or 800 per chip. With a really tiny drop size of 1.5 to 24 picoliters, the chip provides for high-quality printing. In addition, the chips can be grouped in arrays depending on the type of printer they will be used in. For industrial ones,

the array may span the whole page width. The printers in the new line, WorkForce, use moveable versions of the printhead and are claimed to achieve printing speeds of as much as 20 ppm for color and monochrome. The two printers in the lower-cost range, which are aimed at small businesses and home offices, also function as scanners and copiers too. The WF-3620 costs $170 and comes with a 250-sheet main input tray and a rear feed for thicker paper. The WF-3640 has a price tag of $200 and has the additional features of a fax function, a second paper tray and a larger touchscreen.

higher speeds and capacity. The WF4630, at $300, features a 350-sheet main tray plus an 80-sheet rear feed tray and 3.5-inch touchscreen display. The WF4640, at $400, has the additional feature of a second 250-sheet tray and a bigger touchscreen. All WorkForce models come with Wi-Fi compatibility and the capacity for mobile and wireless printing. Cartridges cost between $30 and $35 and have a capacity for 1,000 pages.

The line also includes two WorkForce Pro models, targeting work groups, have

The site, located at www.colorcontrol.info, can be used as an informational aid and marketing tool for customers to help share the benefits of COLORCONTROL to distributors and end users. “This website will help our customers share the COLORCONTROL story and how it is different from anything else available,” said Static Control Vice President of North American Sales & Global Marketing, Bryan Bonacum. “It will help everyone, from owners to someone off the street, to understand the complexities within a toner cartridge and to grasp the depth of knowledge and expertise necessary to develop a full replacement system.” The website takes an in-depth look at each component within a color toner cartridge and the importance of developing a system of components that work together to consistently provide high quality prints. Bonacum added, “It was essential for people to understand that what makes this system different than anything offered before is the components were developed together to work together, giving end-users a premium performance from a remanufactured cartridge that hasn’t been seen until now.” Embedded with more than 20 animated videos and featuring computer generated renderings, the site provides users with comprehensive information in an easy-to-understand format. Each component has three knowledge paths for users to explore. One explains the basics of the components, another provides the science behind development and the last path is a gallery of full color photos. “Our customers can use the site to convey the technology and innovation that is backing their business,” said Bonacum. “This dedicated website explains the resources, effort and energy that Static Control took to bring COLORCONTROL to the marketplace.” He added, “Toner cartridges powered by the COLORCONTROL system allow remanufacturers to offer a premium remanufactured cartridge that can satisfy the most demanding of color customers, those that currently purchase the original equipment manufacturer (OEM) cartridges, such as HP® and Canon®. “

MSE Wins Business Technology Association’s (BTA) Channel’s Choice Award for Remanufactured Cartridges CHICAGO, Ill – Micro Solutions Enterprises (MSE), a global leader in patented technologies for high quality remanufactured toner cartridges, is proud to announce that it has won the Business Technology Association’s (BTA) award for remanufactured cartridges. Earlier this year, BTA emailed a link to the online ballot to all of its dealer members and a number of dealers outside of its membership. The association also encouraged industry vendors to provide the ballot link to dealers. The ballot asked dealers to rate their primary and secondary line hardware vendors in key performance categories, as well as to rate vendors in the two additional award categories -- remanufactured cartridges and third-party leasing. The balloting results determined the Channel’s Choice award winners. Said BTA President Todd J. Fitzsimons, “BTA's annual Channel’s Choice awards program, which began in 1989, provides dealers with a means of recognizing and honoring those vendors that are the most supportive of the dealer channel. Through the years, we have honored a number of deserving vendors for their outstanding product lines, exceptional levels of performance and dealer support. “ “We are honored to receive the BTA Channel Choice award for remanufactured cartridges,” said Luke Goldberg, SVP MSE Global. “It’s a validation of our commitment to quality, innovation, and in providing the market’s only true alternative to OEM consumables. We have worked diligently to gain traction in the BTA channel, and to create partnerships with dealer members. This award says that our work is paying dividends and that our quality products and services are resonating in the marketplace.” A comprehensive look at the balloting results will be presented in the BTA 2014 Channel's Choice Report, free to BTA members. The report, currently being prepared by Industry Analysts Inc., based in Rochester, N.Y., will provide an unparalleled view of how dealers rate their vendor partners. When completed, the report will be available for download at www.bta. org/ChannelsChoice (a member username and password is required to download the report). Previous years' reports are currently available for download from the BTA website.

Criminals Mainly Use Inkjet Printers to Produce Counterfeit Dollars

Company Opens Business to Print Dolls online in Brazil
