“I decided to open Pop Katonah because there was nowhere in town to buy an inflatable gummy bear chair,” said Liz Gereghty. “We needed a place with a bright splash of color, a little attitude, and some loud music.” Enter Pop Katonah with its funky jewelry and sunglasses; fun tees and socks; room and dorm décor; party goods; headphones, phone cases, tech accessories (even a 3-D printer) — plus candy classics and imports, and a huge variety of gummies. But Pop Katonah is more than a store: stop by Pop’s Sunday maker classes on cookie decorating, henna art, 3-D printing, and the latest craze — bullet journaling. What’s that? It’s a to-do list, a planner, and a diary, all at the same time. Keep an eye out for more great ideas on workshop Sundays. If you’re like most people, you don’t like smiling for the camera. The results seem unnatural and often unflattering. What a pleasure it is to discover that photography can actually capture personality, can reveal who you are as well as what you look like. Jamie Kilgore’s talent with a camera is well-known. Her endearing portraits of children and families grace the walls of homes throughout Westchester and beyond. Her professional headshots and casual candids tell the story of you. Her secret? She is a people person, who takes the time to get to know you and the reason behind the photo before a single click of the shutter. Children enjoy her and ignore the camera. Families have fun with her. Individuals are as comfortable with Jamie as they are with a good friend. Social media has created a new photographic specialty. Are you single? Unattached? Looking to date? Your photo has to project the message you want to convey. Jamie’s new offering, Swipe Right by JK, could be the greeting to bring about the meeting. inner with a loved one in the soft glow of candlelight is the essence of romance. Custom Candle Co. offers the allure of candlelight, and also imparts the science behind it — the differences among paraffin and soy wax; how the length of the wick alters the luminous intensity of the light; how the mood changes according to the translucence and color of the container. Custom Candle Co., owned by Marcie Manfredonia and her son, Anthony Desideri, stocks a huge variety of candles produced by the world’s finest candlemakers, including Lafco, Archipelago, Believe, Marianne Guedin Paris and other brands carried in luxury stores like Nordstrom and Saks. The idea for designer candles came from Anthony, who began cutting down high-end liquor bottles and repurposing them into another life, including candles, ashtrays, and vases, among other items. How about a candle in the bottom half of an Absolut bottle? Choose your wax color, wick, scent and container for a custom candle sure to please a gift recipient. Other shop offerings include soaps, bath salts, and reed diffusers. For the holidays, Marcie is creating gift baskets of candles, soaps and all-natural bath salts, plus special order arrangements by request. Stop by and create a mood with candlelight. Hours: Monday through Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Sunday during the holidays, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

ounded in the hamlet of Katonah in 1996 in a small 1,000-square-foot storefront on Katonah Avenue — Country Willow has grown to be one of the area’s largest independently owned furniture retail and design centers, with more than 30 employees and 35,000 square feet of spectacular home furnishings for every room in your home. Walking into Country Willow is nothing short of a one-of-a-kind experience. The interior is a magnificent post-and-beam construction with hand-planed wood floors, antique barn wood on the walls, soaring ceilings and filled with beautiful sofas, sectionals, leather seating, solid wood tables, desks, bedrooms and so much more. They are also the area’s largest resource for home décor including lighting, rugs, window treatments and accessories … and it’s all right here in Bedford Hills. From country to transitional and contemporary, they carry furniture styles for every homeowner. Their many collections of home furnishings and décor accommodate a wide range of price points from starter families to the more upscale homeowner. There are always lots of choices for everyone. You will also find Country Willow Kids & Baby at the same location, which displays more than 40 bedroom collections. This includes bunks, lofts, captain’s beds, trundles, desks, cribs, rugs, lighting … basically everything you will ever need to create a safe and beautiful room for all of your children.
Country Willow has been voted Best Furniture and Accessory Store 10 years in a row by Westchester magazine and recognized by Houzz for design and service. The owners, Cori and Roy Estrow, attribute their incredible success to their employees — some of whom have been with them since the early days. “We have been blessed with some of the most amazing, dedicated and caring employees that you can ever ask for,” says Cori Estrow. “Last year we converted our company to an ESOP company, also known as an employee-owned company. They all work very hard and deserve to share in our success.” Country Willow is also a leading resource for sustainable home furnishings, specializing in American-made, which is rare in this age of imports. They also specialize in solid-wood custom furniture, so if you need a trestle dining table made of reclaimed wood in a specific size or finish, or a large 14-foot library or corner home office, Country Willow can get it done and for less than you think. They also offer complimentary in-home design services by talented designers and have no commissioned salespeople, making for a very friendly environment. And don’t forget to stop by and visit Nyla — a golden retriever who is always there to welcome and entertain everyone. Hours: Open seven days a week. As young adults, we often believe that our parents will be vibrant and self-reliant forever. It seems as though overnight we are faced with the realities that aging brings — the physical and mental limitations that impact our loved ones. When these situations arise, we are fortunate in this area to have access to Home Health Services offered by Westchester Jewish Community Services, which has been providing well-trained, licensed, home care aides for 70 years, with specialties in Alzheimer’s and cancer care. As a result of the compassionate, individualized attentiveness provided by Home Health Services of WJCS, older adults can remain in their homes, safely maintaining their independence, preserving their dignity, and continuing the quality of life that aging in place offers. When you call Home Health Services of WJCS, you will meet Sheila Rabideau, RN, assistant executive director, who brings to her job 40 years of nursing and a positive association with a home aide for her own mother. “I want to re-create that caring experience for every client and every family we serve,” she says. Celebrating their 91st anniversary, Bedford Stone & Masonry Supply, a fifthgeneration family-owned business, is one of the area’s largest operations — certainly the premier site for masonry and landscape materials. Everett Burbank started Bedford Stone & Masonry in 1925 as a manufacturing plant, but 47 years ago the family turned its focus to stone, masonry and landscape supplies. There’s an enormous selection of natural stone and brick suitable for walkways, patios, pool decks, walls and garden paths, plus mulch, cement, sand, drainage products, decorative gravel, winter ice melters and traction sand. See Bedford Stone’s expansive outdoor garden display with examples of various stone and brick use — a collage of walls, paths, patios, edging and steps. An indoor space across the street showcases the extensive uses of thin brick and thin stone — perfect for beautifying concrete foundations, chimneys, fireplace surrounds and backsplashes. Lightweight, so no footings or foundations needed! Contractors and homeowners appreciate Bedford Stone’s neat, welcoming atmosphere and the family’s help and advice — as solid as the products they sell. In its second year, Landmark Bedford offers early childhood programs for 1- to 4-year-olds. Preschool is often a child’s first experience outside the home, and it’s an important place for a child to develop confidence and independence. With more than 40 years of experience, Landmark Preschool has developed differentiated learning strategies to best meet each child’s interests and needs — all in a nurturing and supportive environment. We’re interested in learning what makes your child unique and giving him or her the skills to develop those talents. Providing a warm, nurturing environment for young children, St. Matthew’s School is located on the bucolic 62-acre property of St. Matthew’s Church. The school offers morning programs for 2-, 3- and 4-year-olds, emphasizing exploration and play while providing school-readiness skills. “Children can be children here and enjoy creative activities like dramatic play, cooking, building with blocks, finger painting, and engaging with unique sensory materials, all of which help them to develop in age-appropriate ways,” says director Stephanie Scanlon. “Children have opportunities to explore and create in ways they may not be able to once they move beyond preschool.” The school’s teacher-designed, literature-based curriculum is supplemented with weekly Spanish, music and yoga classes for the older students, as well as “God’s Garden” lessons focused on love, joy, peace and kindness. All classes take nature walks and enjoy time outside on the expansive, newly renovated playground, which includes a special section specifically for 2-year-olds. f you’re looking for a home, land or commercial property in the northern Westchester area, you should know that the Mark Boyland Team at Keller Williams Realty in Bedford is the top-producing real estate team in all of northern Westchester. In the past 12 months, the team has closed 112 sales, negotiating the fairest prices for buyers and, at the same time, obtaining sale prices for sellers 2 percent higher than the average agent. “As the numbers show, our team has the professionalism, expertise, experience and skills to bring about the desired results for our clients,” says Mark Boyland, associate broker and team owner of the Bedford office. According to Mark, “The Keller Williams difference is the team approach.” In this way, the client’s agent can tap the resources of team members as well as the vast Keller Williams network to be sure that all the steps to a successful transaction are covered. Individual members of the team are assigned to handle the administrative tasks, marketing, sales, new listings, Town Hall filings, and all of the details leading to closing. There’s even a coordinator to gather the paperwork from the multiple sources
involved in every transaction. What this approach means is that while each client works with a single agent, a team of people are working on behalf of each client. Our team members live as well as work in northern Westchester. We understand the character of each of the towns and hamlets that make up the northern Westchester community: South Salem, Waccabuc, Lewisboro, Armonk, Bedford Village, Bedford Hills, Pound Ridge, Cross River, Chappaqua, Goldens Bridge, North Salem, Katonah, Mount Kisco, Bedford Corners, Somers and Yorktown Heights. We appreciate the natural beauty of the region, its hills and horse trails, its waterways and country roads. We know where to shop, where to dine out, where to hike, bike and golf here in this desirable up-county locale. Whether you’re buying or selling, you can trust the Mark Boyland Team at Keller Williams Realty to make your real estate venture a pleasant, rewarding and successful experience. Hours: Open seven days a week. Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., weekends by appointment.

Carmel may not have dogs of her own, but she’s still completely in love with them! Pound Ridge Pet Care invites pups of all ages, sizes and spots into Carmel’s air-conditioned home for day care, overnight or vacation — with flexible hours, unusual in the pet care world. “I have up to six dogs here in the house at any given time; they’re here while I’m cooking, watching TV and in my office,” says Carmel. “No leashes, kennels or cages, and the dogs sleep on my bed if they want to and go in the car for errands. Dogs are socialized and exercised here, and they’re relaxed here.” Pound Ridge Pet Care features two fenced-in yards, for separating dogs by size if needed. To ensure compatibility, Carmel asks owners to bring dogs in for a meet and greet before signing up. She’s fully insured, and dogs must be vaccinated. Calling her home “dog heaven on earth,” Carmel administers medications and even takes dogs to the vet or groomer. Call for an appointment.

Vintology is the place to find something new, fascinating and delicious in the world of wines. Vintology completed an exciting expansion and moved a few doors down to 2 Palmer Ave. three years ago. The shop now includes a larger wine selection, which reflects the ever-changing wine scene. Organic and biodynamic wines, local New York State producers, and artisanal domestic and imported spirits have grown in selection as well. Morretta and the team taste daily with importers and winemakers to bring new, exciting selections to the store. As Morretta says, “If it doesn’t exceed our expectations, it’s not selected for Vintology.” The friendly and knowledgeable service is what truly sets Vintology apart. The team always has time for a conversation. With a stylish tasting area, the shop frequently holds wine tastings and events, including organic culinary evenings and blind tastings. Vintology offers nationwide shipping, gift services, free parking and complimentary local delivery. Vintology Wine & Spirits is proud to be a part of the Scarsdale community. The team looks forward to sharing that special bottle with you! Sign up for our entertaining and informative newsletter at www.vintology.com. What is your Vintology? Hours: Open seven days a week. No matter your vacuum cleaner needs, All County Vacuum is your central source for cleaning solutions. All County Vacuum services, sells and supplies accessories for all major vacuum cleaner brands, including Hoover, Miele, Electrolux, Panasonic and Eureka, among others. The shop also installs, sells and repairs built-in central vacuum systems. Built-in central systems are extremely popular for use in all size applications — both residential and commercial — from mobile homes to mansions. A central cleaning system is lighter, quieter and more powerful than a standard portable vacuum. It cleans better and more efficiently, filtering out even ultrafine particles. Because it vents outside the house, it keeps living areas cleaner. For all your home maintenance needs, talk to the home-cleaning experts at All County Vacuum. Hours: Monday through Saturday, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
It’s the call every mother dreads: “Your child has head lice.” No worries. Anna Albano-Krosche, the Lice Lady of Westchester, can come to the rescue 365 days a year, “because lice is always an emergency.” Anna is Westchester’s original head lice removal expert. “I’ve been in business since 1998, and I’ve treated over 10,000 heads,” says Anna. She is the area’s only lice removal specialist with a freestanding salon. She also makes house calls. Anna frequently travels to schools and camps to do lice checks and to give presentations on head lice prevention. “I’ve been through this with my own children and myself, and I relate 100 percent to everybody who comes in,” she says. A client’s head is examined under a magnification light, then is given a 20minute, all-natural enzyme-based shampoo. Nits are combed from the hair, then the hair is rinsed, blown dry and rechecked. Clients leave the salon with a homework sheet, including instructions on how to “delouse your house.”

Karen Rambarrat and Diane Manos-Medici
More than 24 years ago, Diane Manos-Medici, CPE (Certified Professional Electrologist), established Diane’s Electrolysis Suite to help women, men and teens rid their bodies of unwanted hair. In 1994, Karen Rambarrat, CPE, RN, joined the practice. Diane and Karen understand the emotional burden and embarrassment of undesirable hair, which can be hereditary or caused by a medical condition, hormonal changes or hirsutism. With the benefit of electrolysis — the only hair removal method that is permanent and recognized by the medical field — clients regain confidence knowing that, once again, they can look their best. Diane and Karen realized that helping people struggling to cope with excessive hair was a profession they wanted to pursue. Both are board-certified and attend meetings and conferences to earn continuing education units (CEUs). They bring the latest techniques to the practice, where they offer custom treatments to meet individual needs. As always, client comfort and safety are uppermost, and strict infectious disease control guidelines are followed, including disposable probes, sterilized equipment, rubber gloves and private treatment rooms. Call for a free consultation to discuss how electrolysis can help you. Hours: Days, evenings and weekends by appointment.
