Therefore, we asked for a postponement of the town meeting. How can we respond if there is nothing to respond to? This meeting should have already been postponed. This same scenario happened last November with this application and the Zoning Commission. Even though supporting drainage and storm water calculations were nonexistent and there was no application to Inland/Wetlands, the developer was allowed to proceed.

With the zealous developers of 1676 Berlin Turnpike and its high density housing, are we to expect an influx of population? What demographic are these units being marketed to? Is Berlin capable of a sizable population increase without raising taxes?

There is also the potential of 350 units with the 12 vintage motels since, with the new amendment, that's the only option for those sites. This is over 900 units with a potential of 2,200 residents and 500 kids added to our schools.

Masks optional From A1

The school system said the changes were in response to updated federal and state guidelines. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention eased its mask recommendations for schools last Friday.

“We are happy with this change and hope that it stays this way,” Superintendent of Schools Brian J. Benigni said.

schools across the state.

In a letter to parents, Benigni said he understands how divisive the mask issue has been in the community and throughout the country.

As Daniel Crispino made his rounds to several Meriden elementary schools throughout the day Monday, he encountered a sight he hadn’t seen for close to two years — smiling faces, students and teachers alike, in classrooms.

see more smiles. That part of it was really awesome,” said Crispino, who is the district’s director of school leadership for its elementary schools. And in Southington, school Superintendent Steve Madancy made an observation similar to Crispino’s after he had visited DePaolo Middle School. At one point during that visit, Madancy walked by a music class where the majority of students were singing.

Democratic Party leaders have indicated the federal investigation would complicate a legislative inquiry. “The legislature is not going to be able to get people to come testify about that, when you have to have an ongoing federal investigation,” House Speaker Matt Ritter said. “At some point, they will make their findings public, and they will make arrests, if warranted.” This being an election year, however, it appears likely
