Foundation awards $260,000 in grants The Community Foundation of Greater New Britain (CFGNB) has approved their first round of grants and awarded more than $260,000 to a wide variety of community programs serving Berlin, New Britain, Plainville and Southington.

A post to berlinfire.org states the car struck the porch attached to the house and weakened the porch roof. “Crews stabilized the roof to allow the wrecker to remove the car. There were no injuries. Scene was turned over to the police,” the BVFD stated. Middle left: Kensington FireRescue helped the Berlin High School tennis program with its recent ball drop fundraiser. A post to the Kensington FireRescue Facebook page states that the event generated more than $1,500 for the teams. Bottom left: New Berlin Police Department officers Brendan Clark and Peggy Kennedy graduated from the police academy in March. A post to the Berlin PD’s Facebook page states that Clark and Kennedy would be “spending the next few months finishing their training with a field training officer before going out on their own. If you see them around town, be sure to say hello!”
The foundation’s Board of Directors approved $177,900 in Community Response grant awards to local nonprofits. These are discretionary grants selected by the board to meet a variety of community needs. Grants were made to 11 programs and organizations serving the foundation’s four-town service area.
Arts, Culture & Heritage Connecticut Virtuosi Chamber Orchestra, $7,500 to support the Public Relations & Marketing Coordinator and Grants & Development Coordinator. New Britain Museum of American Art, $50,000 to support the Education and Outreach program. See Grants, A7
Saint Paul School selects new principal Jill (Behme) Conaway has been named principal of Saint Paul School in Kensington effective July 1. Conaway comes to Saint Paul from Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary School in Sun Prairie, Wisconsin where she has served as associate principal and development director for the past 16 years. “I feel so blessed to be serving as the next principal of St. Paul School,” said Conaway. “I look forward to being an integral part of such a vibrant community of students, parents, school and parish staff.
