November. Now the 27-yearold is eyeing the 83rd House district seat currently held by state Rep. Catherine Abercrombie, a fellow Democrat, who is not seeking reelection. Fazzino, the third candidate to register a campaign committee with the State Elec-
tions Enforcement Commission in the race, said Thursday he planned to immediately begin knocking on doors in the 83rd, which includes parts of Berlin and Meriden and, after recent redistricting, will also include part of Cheshire. “I am who I am today because of where I grew up,” said Fazzino, an attorney with the law firm of Cohen and Wolf P.C. in Bridgeport. “I have directly benefited
from many years of living in a supportive community with effective leaders who have routinely challenged me to be the best person I can be.”
Berlin Town Councilor Jack Fazzino, a Democrat, is running for state representative in the 83rd district. Contributed photo
Two Meriden Republicans, Lou Arata and Joseph Vollano, are seeking that party’s endorsement in the 83rd. Fazzino studied political science at the University of Notre Dame, then earned his master’s degree at Georgetown University and his law degree from Boston College Law School. While at Georgetown, Fazzino interned with U.S. Sen. Chris Murphy’s office and was a clerk for a federal judge. Now, he wants to do his part for his hometown of Berlin, and the broader district. “It’s never too early to pay it forward,” Fazzino said. “Right now, we are slowly emerging from a two-year period that has placed an enormous toll on our people, our businesses, and our institutions.
“We need young, energetic, civic-minded leaders in Hartford to rise to the occasion and meet these challenges head-on,” he added. Meriden Democratic Party chair Millie Torres-Ferguson said Fazzino “is a strong candidate.” “He has the campaign experience and understanding of the legislature and the legislative process, and works in a bipartisan fashion on the Town Council in Berlin to get things done,” she said.
Arata didn’t exactly welcome Fazzino to the race. The Republican indicated that what Fazzino “may lack in life experience” could have led him to align with the Democratic Party, and that time “might perhaps change some of his political views.” “We will have to see more of what programs he wants to emphasize in his political endeavors,” Arata added. Vollano said he’s looking forward to hearing Fazzino’s positions as well, including his thoughts on the muchtalked about police accountability bill, Critical Race Theory and other hot-button issues.

Our library is raising money to host a community mural as part of Wallingford’s 350th anniversary. The mural will be a collaborative project celebrating the people who live in our town. Local artist Rashmi Talpade painted a giant tree in the library and will help residents create decorative “leaves” with images of themselves and their families. Most images will be photographs, but self-portraits in other mediums will also be welcome. As the leaf-shaped images are created, community participants will see them affixed to the tree and watch the development of the mural, akin to a tree sprouting leaves. We are seeking $5,000 to cover the costs. The Wallingford Public Library is excited to showcase this beautiful, visual reflection of the people who make up our community.

The Wallingford Chorus was founded in 1970 to celebrate the Town of Wallingford’s Tercentenary. For over fifty years, the chorus has continuously performed and promoted choral music in central CT. It’s our way of raising spirits and inspiring new thoughts, giving our audience a chance to lose themselves in music as a break from everyday life. We perform two concerts a year, one in December and one in May. Our material varies from singing light repertoires to more complex pieces including selections of multicultural works. Most recently, however, we have performed songs from Broadway, the cinema, and the 60’s. We are a fun group! We want our audiences to have fun with us. Do not be surprised if you come to one of our concerts and you are asked to sing along! Your donation to the great give will go directly to paying our amazing Music Director and Accompanist, and allowing us to purchase new and exciting music to perform for you.

Authorities, Lamont talk ‘ghost guns’ crackdown By Michael Gagne Record-Journal staff
MERIDEN — Standing behind a podium in the state crime lab’s K9 training facility on Colony Street on April 14, law enforcement officials, joined by Gov. Ned Lamont, described an ongoing effort to reduce the numbers of so-called “ghost guns” on the street.
Cornerstone Real Estate llc
Spread on tables surrounding the podium were dozens of such firearms — handguns, long guns and a machine gun — along with numerous rounds of ammunition and high capacity magazines. James Rovella, commissioner of the Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection, described the weapons’ seizure as a collaborative effort that involved multiple agencies. Rovella said ghost guns “end up in the wrong hands.”
Derek Jutras Broker/Owner
“They go around our licensing and firearms statutes and ...sooner or later they’re going to end up hurting somebody,” he said, describing those firearms as being a combination of “what is acquired over the Internet and ordered, and manufactured from parts,” which can be produced with a 3D printer. The items on display were seized two days earlier, when authorities carrying out a court-issued warrant arrested a 39-year-old New Britain man, and gathered what state police described
Office (860) 828-7877 Fax (860) 828-5797 Cell (860) 883-7091 E-mail: djutras@sbcglobal.net
as more than 150 pieces of evidence.
along with phones, computers and flash drives.
The seized items included firearms and components authorities said are capable of making the weapons fully automatic. The “vast majority,” according to state police, are considered ghost guns, meaning the firearms are privately made without serial numbers — making them virtually untraceable.
The suspect, Steven GerentMastrianni, 39, faces dozens of felony charges, including firearms trafficking, nine counts of illegal transfer of a manufactured firearm without a serial number and sale of large capacity magazines. He was held on $500,000 bond and has yet to enter a plea.
In addition to the firearms, authorities also seized what they described as hundreds of high capacity magazines and 30 to 40 thousand rounds of ammunition. Also seized as part of the investigation was a 3D printer,
Rovella shared figures showing the numbers of ghost guns seized by law enforcement agencies has increased annually from 2020 to the first quarter of 2022.
