Movie theater opens for first time since COVID-19 shutdown By Nadya Korytnikova The Citizen
Berlin’s only movie theater, Picture Show Entertainment, held a grand re-opening recently after being shut down by the COVID-19 pandemic. Extensive renovations were done to the theater at 19 Frontage Road just before the pandemic.
“We are happy they are here and got through COVID-19,” Mayor Mark Kaczynski said during a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Thursday, June 17. “We are thrilled with the renovations and I know the town of Berlin and surrounding towns support their reopening.”
A lively crowd helped themselves to fresh-off the grill food while enjoying conversations among the members, most of whom joined Spartans over three decades ago. To make the Saturday, June 5 picnic fun and memorable, music was provided by a DJ complete with a smoke machine and disco lights, which encouraged many to dance. In between songs, visitors could get cold refreshments at the bar or compete in a game of horseshoes. The Spartans Veterans Athletic Club was founded in 1933, in the middle of the Great Depression.

“It’s all about the look,” said Lomaglio. “I’ve talked to a number of people who’ve lived in this town and said that Farmington Avenue hasn’t changed in 30 years. It needs a facelift.”
The $500,000 program would be funded out of the $6 million the town received as part of the federal American Rescue Plan.
The Business Relief Program would also enforce updated zoning regulations, which will ensure a cohesive theme along the storefronts on Farmington Avenue while allowing for some distinctive design. “Right now, if you drive on Farmington Avenue, there is a mismatch between the businesses,” said Lomaglio. “We need to make sure that the avenue has the same landscape. That’s why the town needs to step up and look at zoning regulations.” In addition Lomaglio proposed forming the Farmington Avenue Merchants association — a group of business owners who would meet to discuss ways to cross-promote and share ideas to increase foot traffic.

Meanwhile, Pistol Creek, which Shipman described as the “hidden jewel of the town,” can be used for summer concerts, potentially. “I feel like we don’t need huge changes,” said Shipman. “Some of the simplest things will make a huge difference.” Jamie Bomova, owner of The Avenue restaurant, said, “We overly condense our town with too many alike businesses.”

Corinne was a Kensington resident most of her life and attended Kensington United Methodist Church. She was employed as a switchboard operator at New Britain General Hospital for many years before working at Deeters Bake Shop in Kensington. Corinne enjoyed camping at Hammonasset Beach State Park as well as entering her winning flowers in the Berlin Fair. She enjoyed reading, knitting and crocheting, cooking, and helping to preserve the family legacy of recipes. Most importantly, she adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and loved spending time with her family. BERLIN- Scott A. Dubree, 56, joined his heavenly family, unexpectedly, on June 17th, 2021, while doing what he loved most, working outdoors helping his family. Scott was born in New Britain, CT, to the late Earl W. Dubree and Judy (Odrick) Dubree. He later settled his home in Berlin to raise his family. Scott was a simple man who worked hard and played harder. Scott worked for Eversource where he found more than a job, he discovered his union brothers and sisters who he loved dearly as a proud member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 457. Scott was one of the hardest workers known to mankind with a heart of gold, they don’t make many like him anymore. Scott was blessed to share his life with his wife of almost 31 years, Jennifer Fournier-Dubree, and was proud to be a father to his two sons James & Justin Dubree, and his daughter in law, Courtney Pelletier. His greatest blessing was becoming a Papa to his grandchildren Scott Dubree & Finley Dubree. He loved his sister, Donna Betancourt, her husband Edwin Betancourt, their children Krystle, Ashley & Joey and his brother, Earl W. Dubree, Jr. and his partner Beverly Lajoie. Love continued for his sister-in-law Michelle Fournier and her wife Maryann Sobolewski and brother- in-law Mark Fournier, his fiancé Kate Westover, his nephew Mark Jr., along with brother & sister-in-law Eric and Allison Chute. Scott was pre-deceased by his father-in-law, James Fournier. Survived by his wife, Anne Marquis

3BIG MYTHS WINDOW REPLACEMENT
When it comes to window replacement, there are too many myths floating around and not nearly enough facts.
40 off BUY ONE, GET ONE
Myth #1: “Vinyl windows are the best solution.”
Myth #2: “Window replacement is difficult.”
Myth #3: “All warranties are the same.”
Fibrex® composite material is two times stronger than vinyl and makes for stunningly beautiful windows with a durable finish that, unlike vinyl, won’t peel, crack or fade².
It depends on who you call. Renewal by Andersen is the full service window replacement division of 116-year-old Andersen Corporation, the most trusted family of window brands in America³.
As both the manufacturer and installer of your windows, Renewal by Andersen gives you both product and labor coverage². As a homeowner, you get absolute peace of mind.
