Residents weigh in on charter revision The Town Council held a public hearing in regards to the work of the Charter Revision Commission at its July 12 meeting. A significant change proposed would give political town committees the power to nominate candidates for the Board of Education. As it stands, Berlin BOE candidates/members are not aligned with political parties. Also, the Charter Revision Commission proposed
changes related to the Visiting Nurses Association, and eliminating the requirement that the town manager live in town. At the July 12 hearing, more than 20 residents spoke. Reflecting the opinion of several attendees, resident Teddie Lette said he did not approve of the proposed charter revisions. Lette said councilors wanted to make changes they want to see, not what the tax-payers are looking for. See Charter, A17

Prism Academy has a new location where youngsters with autism spectrum disorders can learn and grow, 166 Lincoln St., home of the former Mooreland Hill School.
others are in Farmington and Guilford. “We started operating out of a couple of vacant rooms in the Farmington location, and we quickly realized we needed to find a more permanent home,” said Coburn. Edge said he was introduced to the Prism team about a year ago when they were trying to figure out where best to expand.
“I am beyond thrilled to be here, as everyone knows this has been the home of a school for many years, and the great news is that it is going to be a school again for many, many, more years,” Economic Development Director Chris Edge said.
“This is not just an asset for the town, but for the entire area,” said Edge, pointing out that his oldest son has autism, Asperger’s syndrome. “They will be doing something very close to my own heart.”
A ribbon-cutting ceremony for Prism Academy was held Friday, July 22.
The Prism Academy in Berlin provides support for children age 3 to 14.
