Cancer survivor walks 100 miles to raise $5,675
Each mile Karen Cote walked along her journey was dedicated to someone who suffered from cancer.

Breast cancer survivor Karen Cote raised $5,675 last month to help ease the financial burden for patients undergoing cancer treatment.

Republican incumbent Mark Kaczynski secured another term as Mayor of Berlin last week, defeating Sam Lomaglio, a Republican endorsed by the local Democratic Party, by a wide margin: 3,687 to 1,996. The GOP also maintained control of the Town Council in the Kaczynski 2021 municipal election, which came to an end on Nov. 2. Returning to the seven-member board are Republicans Charles Paonessa (3,313), Donna Veach (3,595) and Brendan Luddy (3,408). The Berlin Police Department’s new chief, Matthew McNally IV, was sworn in on Thursday, Nov. 4. McNally’s offical title is Superintendent of Police. A recent Berlin PD Facebook post states: “The men and women of the Berlin Police Department look forward to working with Superintendent McNally as we continue to work towards keeping the Berlin Community safe for all its residents. … Superintendent McNally served with the Danbury Police for almost 37 years and commanded the Danbury Police Cadet program. Superintendent McNally also served as the city’s Homeland Security coordinator and the department’s intelligence liaison.
