What about Prom? What about the beach? What about getting to classes? Could she drive? What would a scar look like?

As it turns out, Salina has missed her entire senior n Could she play her senior year, a shockingly successful year of high school? Bryant honored its commitment and Salina is signed to play for the Bulldogs next season and they are happy to have her. She drives and has had about as normal a senior year so far as possible except for soccer. “She has been my assistant coach standing right next to me every game,” Joslyn said, of Salina. “She is the best player I’ve ever coached in my six years here and to have here on the sidelines is
brutal knowing what she is capable of, especially with how the season has gone. But even with her not playing her leadership has been invaluable.” Salina said that, while it is awful not to be playing, she tries to help as much as she can. “I’m not going to lie, at the beginning it was awful and there were days I wanted to quit because I had to re-learn everything,” Salina said. “When we called Bryant, coach (Andy) Briggs was amazing and so supportive. And Coach Jos lets me pitch in and coach and be loud. I think I know what the team needs sometimes, and the girls will come and talk to me sometimes when they don’t want to talk to him, which is fun. This team has been awesome from the first game.” She said she doesn’t know how she would have gotten through this without Dr. Waskowitz, Fusion Performance in Cheshire, and “the most supportive family in
the world,” but her career is not over yet. “We’re taking this whole thing,” she said. “We can beat anybody. With all the teams that we have already played we can beat anyone.”

Mr. Jim Arnold, Berlin High’s physical education teacher, is actually one of the people that run Berlin Helping Berlin. “The organization helps raise money for community members in need and provides them with some financial assistance needed,” explained Garrity. To raise funds for those in need, Garrity and his group are organizing a Powderpuff Game. “Right now we’re looking at having two teams per high school grade and about fifteen kids per team. Each team is coached by a student, usually a boy on the football team.” And, after a few weeks of practice, the girls will compete on the big stage. “How it will work is we’ll gather all the teams after school at 5:30 p.m. After an

Obituaries Richard John Paskiewicz KENSINGTON - Richard John Paskiewicz, age 80, passed peacefully at home on October 31, 2023, surrounded by his family. Born in 1943, he spent the first 14 years of his life in Plantsville, Connecticut, where he fondly recalled the Norman Rockwell cover of the Saturday Evening Post, serving as an altar boy at Immaculate Conception Church, his grandmother’s Easter bread, and noticing the trains on his way to and from school. He and his brother Robert and their parents moved to Berlin in 1957, where he made lifelong friendships at Berlin High School, from which he graduated in 1961. After college and earning his master’s and sixth year degree, Richard began his career as a teacher in 1965 in the Rocky Hill Public Schools. He would spend the next 47 years as an educator, teaching in the Rocky Hill schools, serving as principal of Griswold Middle School in Rocky Hill, being promoted to Assistant Superintendent of Rocky Hill, serving as President of the Board of Education in Berlin, and then ultimately being appointed Superintendent of the Berlin Public Schools from 1995 to 2005, the
proud culmination of his career. He served at the helm of the schools he, his wife, and his daughter attended. Not one to relax into retirement, he was appointed interim superintendent of the Vernon/Rockville schools in 2006 and the Canterbury schools in 2012. During his retirement, he shifted his focus to his favorite hobbies: building his model train set and gardening. Though he remained active in the Berlin Democratic Town Committee and St. Paul Catholic Church, he also enjoyed spending more time at his home in Cape Cod. He was a lifelong fan of UCONN basketball, football, and the New York Yankees, much to the disappointment of many of his friends who were Red Sox fans. Because of his varied interests, Richard could just as easily discuss
home electrical wiring as baseball statistics, weather phenomena, train travel, and stock prices. He loved Berlin and was active in the community throughout his entire life. He was predeceased by his parents, John and Stella Paskiewicz. He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Carol, his daughter Tracy, his brother Robert and his family, and sister-in-law Shirley Pulcini. He will be missed by so many. Calling hours were at Erickson-Hansen Funeral Home of Berlin, 111 Chamberlain Hwy., on Friday, November 3, 2023 from 4:00-7:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. Paul Catholic Church in Kensington on Saturday, November 4, 2023 at 11:30 AM. Burial was at Maple Cemetery in Berlin. The Richard Paskiewicz Scholarship will be awarded to a Berlin High School senior who intends to pursue a degree in a STEAM-related field. Family and friends and the team at the Jefferson House celebrated her 100th birthday this past May. Born in New Britain, daughter of the late Lucy (Sanders) O’Sullivan and John O’Sullivan. She was the last of the 12 O’Sullivan siblings of Brook St. Barbara attended local schools and started her career following many siblings at New Britain Machine as a secretary and retired working for the State of Connecticut. Over her life span she was a parishioner of St. Joseph Church, where she attended school, St. Mary Church, St. John’s Church and St. Paul’s Church. Barbara leaves her two daughters: Maureen Ziezulewicz (William) of Golden Valley, MN, Bernadine Luddy (John) of Berlin and her son Frederick Larese (Virginia) of New Britain. Barbara had seven grandchildren: Johanna Schmitt (Brian), Geoffrey Ziezulewicz, Paul Ziezulewicz (Lindsay), Bridget McLaughlin (Mark), Timothy Luddy (Chelsea), Heather Larese (Katy) and Brittany Larese. In addition, she had three
great-grandchildren: Will Sulkow, Hugh and Becker Ziezulewicz. She was predeceased by her husband Fred, daughter Mary Jane Schmitt, and her close friend Robert Westman. The family of Barbara would like to thank the staff of the Jefferson House specifically the Hitchcock nursing floor for giving such loving care in her last few years of life. State gets $2B in federal funding for rail projects, bridge replacements
Amtrak sought greater annual funding from Congress, warning of potential disruptions to services and raising concerns about the need for updating crumbling infrastructure. Some bridges with rail service in Connecticut have needed updates or replacements for years to fix deteriorating conditions.

Successful applicants will work in the design and development of overhead and underground power distribution lines. This highly reliable municipal-owned electric utility, located 10 miles from New Haven, CT, serves 25,000 customers in a 50+ square mile distribution area with a peak demand of 130 MW with an excellent rate structure. Applicants should possess 2 years of responsible experience in utility engineering, plus a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, or an equivalent combination of education and qualifying experience substituting on a year-for-year basis. Salary: $84,586 to $108,221 annually plus on-call stipend when assigned. The Town offers an excellent fringe benefits package that includes pension plan, paid sick and vacation time, medical insurance, life insurance, 13 paid holidays, and deferred compensation plan.
