A FOND FAREWELL Mike Kelly, a business education teacher at Cheshire High School, waits for the first wave of students to arrive at the school on Monday morning to clear out their lockers. Seniors also dropped off Chromebooks. End of year cleanups were scheduled throughout the week. Kelly stands next to a row of personalized signs offering congratulations to 2020 graduates. The signs were sponsored by the CHS PTO. Graduation is scheduled for Aug. 2. Today, June 11, was the original date for graduation and students were invited to participate in a “goodbye to the faculty” event with a drivethrough farewell parade around the high school. Jim Jinks, a first-term Democratic Town Council member, announced Thursday, June 4, his intention to run for state representative in the 90th District, challenging incumbent Republican Craig Fishbein. Jinks, 48, said in a statement that he decided to run after hearing from “many Cheshire and Wallingford residents that feel that their voices are not heard.”

“They have called, sent a text or emailed asking me to run, to represent them and be their voice,” Jinks Fishbein said, adding that while he had no intention of running for state office this year and enjoys serving as a town councilor, “ultimately, this moment demands more from all of us.” See 90th House, A2
