The North Haven Rotary will be quite busy Sunday, Nov. 13. The civic group will start the day with its annual pancake breakfast for local veterans. Then, Rotary members will be off to the Tessa Marie 5K Memorial Road Race.
“Both the pancake breakfast and our road race highlight what we do as Rotarians to help our community and help those in need,” Rotary chair Anita Anderson said.
The pancake breakfast will take place from 8 a.m. to noon at North Haven Middle School. Proceeds from that event will go to “Building Homes for Heroes,” a nonprofit which has gifted more than 300 homes to veterans.
The road race will begin at 9 a.m. at North Haven High School, and participants can opt for the 5K or 1-mile run.

Junior gardeners prep for scarecrow festival
By Cindy Golia
Recently, North Haven Garden Club Junior Gar den Club kids met in doors at United Faith Methodist Church due to rainy weather. It was a blessing in disguise since we needed to start our work on the kids’ latest project, getting our scarecrows ready for the North Haven Garden Club Scarecrow Contest. We crumpled up a
bunch of newspapers and stuffed them in plas tic carrier bags, making different sizes for arms and legs. The bodies were made from larger grocery store bags stuffed with newspaper. Almost all of the clothing we used was donated by the Junior Garden Club moms. We are making six scarecrows in all, but will keep it a secret as to what our theme is.

Macro photography the topic of Nov. 1 talk
Press Release
North Haven Camera Club will welcome guest speaker Paul Nguyen Tuesday, Nov. 1 at 7 p.m. The professional photographer will present an online program on macro photography, the art of mak ing tiny things look big. You can do this by getting very
close to your subject or by using a telephoto lens to zoom in. Macro photogra phy gives us a different per spective on our world.
Nguyen has lived and worked from coast to coast in the U.S. and has 30 years of film and digital photogra phy experience.
A resident of Flagstaff, Ari zona, Nguyen specializes in natural landscapes and wildlife photography. He has served in the prestigious Na tional Parks Artist in Resi dence program at the Petri fied Forest in Arizona, and as a photographer for the Boston Museum of Science.
His images have been li censed by numerous organi zations including Tamron and the Nature Conservancy and Amazing New England Artworks.
Nguyen believes people have the power to change their own perceptions, whether it be their percep tion of themselves or that of the world around them. Since everything that we ex perience in our lives must pass through the filter of our perception, changing our perception essentially changes our reality.
