New bandstand to provide more opportunities

A project that has been in the works for over two years will come to fruition next year on North Haven’s Town Green. According to the First Selectman Michael Freda, ground was broken late last month for a new bandstand on the Green, replacing the Showmobile that had been used for performances in the park for the past 30 years. Freda noted that the Showmobile had served

the town well, but described it as “somewhat antiquated,” explaining that he’d always been concerned for the safety of performers due to the steep steps leading up to the stage. This new addition ties into a goal Freda’s had for North Haven coming out of COVID-19 — increasing the number of activities on the Town Green. PIERPONT CONCERT FEATURING THE UNITED GIRLS’ CHOIR On Friday, Dec. 8, at 7 p.m. the North Haven Congregational Church is proud to host a concert featuring the world renowned United Girls’ Choir (UGC). North Haven Garden Clubs guide to happy, healthy poinsettias mountain slopes near the Pacific Ocean in Mexico. This is why proper care involves recreating these environmental conditions in your home and keep your plants warm and cozy. The plant needs warm temperatures in order to thrive. The indoor temperature of your home should be sufficient for most plants. Be sure to avoid placing your poinsettia

in drafty areas, like near doors or windows. Next important thing to remember is not to over water your plant, which is the leading cause of house plant death. Check your plants soil daily and when it becomes dry to the touch water thoroughly. Poinsettias need 10 hours of light per day, which is ideal for the longest possible blooming period. The potted plants will use up the nutrients found in their in their soil, so make sure to fertilize your plants regularly. Poin-

settias are a perennial shrub and can grow 10 to 15 feet tall. In order to keep your potted plant to a manageable size, pinch off the new bubs that exceed the desired size and prune any dead or dying leaves and branches. Plants can be moved outside once all chances of frost is past. The tropical plants enjoy warm weather and sunshine but do not place your plant in direct sunlight immediately. Because they are used to full shade indoors, you must do the same

and place them in full shade for two weeks. Them move to a partially shaded area for two weeks and then to your sunny location and leave it there for the remainder of the season. Follow your normal procedure when bringing your outdoor plants back inside. FUN FACT- did you know that the large "flowers" on a poinsettia plant are not flowers at all. “I’m trying to improve the optics and the quality of some of these parts of our recreational facilities,” Freda said. “You can imagine if you have a city or town where their parks are run down, their ball fields are run down, the picnic benches are frayed and falling apart, the park benches are not in good condition. That’s not what should happen in any city or town. That’s why I’ve been on this mission.”

Must maintain valid system operation certification from Connecticut Valley Exchange (CONVEX) or other approved agency or be able to obtain the same within 90 days of hire. Must posses and maintain a valid State of CT driver’s license. $ 34.63 - $ 41.15 per hour plus an excellent fringe benefit package.
