Busy Bee: Pierpoint Apiaries bringing sweet honey to town By Heather Sillins Special to The Citizen

After a lifetime of being deeply fascinated by bees, a North Haven man has begun his very own apiary. Richard Pierpont has always been uniquely curious about bees. He even recalls his summers as a child spent trying to catch them when he was swimming in the pool. Pierpont has dreamed of working with bees for years and recently decided it was time to truly indulge in this interest, so he started “Pierpont Apiaries,” his own honey farm. Much of what Pierpont came to understand about beekeeping was derived from dedicating hours to reading articles and watching YouTube videos. He credited Rollie Hannan of Hannan Honey LLC as a mentor who guided him through challenges he faced along the way, such as having a hive of bees that laid unfertilized eggs in the absence of a queen bee. To begin his apiary, Pierpont purchased See Honey, A6
