Clothing drive for local veterans a success On Monday, Dec. 11, State Rep. Dave Yaccarino concluded a winter clothing drive for local veterans and families. Yaccarino partnered with Columbus House to organize donation sites at various businesses throughout North Haven. The effort focused on providing homeless and insecure veterans in the North Haven area with new winter essentials, like hats, gloves, and warm underwear. “Each year, we are overwhelmed by the generosity of our neighbors to support the most vulnerable in our community. Through your gracious donations, Columbus House will be able to serve local veterans and their families who can suffer from limited access to vital resources during colder months. They have sacri-
ficed so much for us and this is a small token of our appreciation for them,” Yaccarino said. Multiple locally owned businesses and civic organizations volunteered as donation sites to facilitate the successful clothing drive.
“The success of this drive is also a testament to the strength of North Haven’s local business network and emphasizes their commitment to growing our community through charity and partnerships,” Yaccarino said. Organizers offered “thank

The do’s and don’ts of pet adoption for the holidays Adopting a pet for a loved one may seem like a great gift idea, but before doing so, it’s important to consider why the holiday season may not be the right time.
Chrystal Rashba, the assistant animal control officer for the Town of North Haven, shared the most important things to think about when it comes to pet adoption around the holidays. Her first significant piece of advice is that you shouldn’t
actually adopt the pet as a gift. “You might have an idea of what said person wants, but really they’re the one who should pick out,” she explained. Instead, Crystal suggested writing a handwritten note offering to pay
the adoption fee when the individual finds the right pet for them. By doing this, you eliminate the possibility of adopting a pet that isn’t a good fit for the person you’re giving the pet to.
