Plainville sees uptick in COVID-19 cases The state Public Health Department recently developed the “town-level COVID response framework” to classify cities and towns based on population and how many residents have tested positive for COVID-19 on a two-week rolling average, counted from Sunday to Saturday. The state will make the designations every Thursday after 5 p.m.
Recently, the Plainville Fire Department delivered new stuffed animals to the Plainville Family Resource Network based at Linden Street School. Each year, around the holidays, PetSmart employees encourage customers to purchase and donate a plush animal toy for distribution in the community. In addition, a percentage of stuffed animal sales goes directly to PetSmart Charities. The Plainville Fire Department identified the Plainville Family Resource Network as the ideal organization to make use of the stuffed animal donations, and the department was thrilled to be part of making the magic happen.
Yellow indicates 5 to 9 new cases per 100,000 residents per day. Orange indicates 10 to 14 new cases per 100,000 residents per day and red indicates more than 15 cases per 100,000 per day. Plainville went orange this past week. Nearby, Berlin and Meriden did as well.
Gov. Ned Lamont signed an executive order allowing towns in both the red and orange categories to revert to Phase 2 reopening guidelines. The order also allows cities and towns to cancel indoor or outdoor activities, limit capacity in restaurants or stores, or step up inspections and enforcement. The rating system does not impact schools, which health officials have said are not contributing to the spread of the virus because social distancing, hand washing and mask wearing are enforced. — Record-Journal report

A warm and fuzzy local story
Cities and towns that have increased positive COVID-19 cases are designated as yellow, orange or red.
While one of Plainville’s neighbors, Southington, remained at yellow, another, New Britain, was in the red zone.
