Avventura Bakery & Deli suffers damage from fire “The damage to the building was extensive,” Assistant Fire Chief Eric Heath said.

The fire appears to have started in a storage area in the kitchen and spread to the ceiling and throughout the storefront, authorities said. The fire marshal is investigating.

The business is located just south of Meriden-Waterbury Turnpike in a busy commercial area off I-691 that includes The Home Depot and the TA Travel Center truck stop. A statement on the restaurant’s Facebook page said they will be closed until further notice and will keep customers updated on their reopening.

Avventura opened in 2018, serving “Italian flair” deli offerings, as well as pastries and coffee. “A BIG thank you to all the firefighters who were on the scene within minutes and saved the building and our business from having a total loss!” the Facebook post said. “We will keep you posted as to our reopen date. Thank you all for your support and understanding!” The Knotter Drive office for Central Connecticut Dermatology, next to Avventura, also sustained light smoke damage. — Record-Journal report

Firefighters responded to a fire alarm at approximately 11:15 p.m. and called in mutual aid from Cheshire, Bristol, Meriden and Plainville as the extent of the fire became clear.

Heath said extinguishing a fire in a strip mall presented firefighters with some difficulty, as they had to gain access to all storefronts to make sure the fire had not spread to other businesses. Firefighters were able to bring the fire under control within around 45 minutes.

‘Good Cheer’ From A1

“The members are anxious to be able to perform again after two years!" The Plainville Choral Society's Dec. 10 concert will take place at The Congregational Church of Plainville, 130 West Main St. Tickets are $15 to attend inperson. To enjoy the show via livestream, the cost is $10.

PCS will accept donations during the sing-a-long, and the funds will be split 50/50 with the food pantry. Donations may be made directly on the livestream. Greg Wilfrid stated, “One of our great joys as a group is audience sing-a-longs in our holiday concerts. Even though we are not able to do it in person, we would rather

do it virtually, than not at all. Holiday music and a great cause to benefit — what’s not to love?” In-person tickets for the Dec. 10 performace can be purchased from any PCS member. Tickets will not be available at the door. To purchase the Dec. 10 or 11 livestream, visit pcsmusic.net.
