PORTRAIT PIONEER Plainville Community Schools’ Portrait Pioneer award winner for the month of November is Louis Toffolon Elementary School tutor Carl Hawkins. Staff members Caitlin Butkus and Chiara Ramos nominated Hawkins, who was recognized at the Nov. 8 Board of Education meeting. The Portrait Pioneer award was established to recognize those who exemplify and model the characteristics of the school district’s Portrait of the Graduate framework, which include being: Mindful, Resilient, Communicative, Innovative and Collaborative.

Newcomer Consalvo is named BOE chair Less than a week after earning a seat on the Plainville Board of Education, Republican Lori Consalvo was selected to lead the ninemember group. At the Nov. 8 BOE meeting, a 5-4 vote gave Consalvo the chairmanship. She was nominated by Democrat Rebecca Martinez. Becky Tyrrell, who is also a Democrat, seconded the motion. Choral society returns with ‘Songs of Good Cheer’ After an 18-month hiatus due to the pandemic, the Plainville Choral Society is back. Under the direction of Greg Wilfrid, PCS is preparing for its holiday show “Songs of Good Cheer: A Concert and a Benefit,” which will be performed Friday, Dec. 10 and Saturday, Dec. 11. A news release touting the group's return states, "For more than 50 years, PCS has brought music to Plainville and the surrounding communities and attending the holiday concert has become an event which brings back memories for generations, and creates new ones. After being sidelined for nearly two years, the Plainville Choral Society is looking forward to performing before an audience next month. PCS, Facebook
