A VERY SPECIAL GUEST

Steady hand at the wheel When you first meet Diane Giuliani, you can’t help but be drawn in by her warmth and huge smile. As soon as you strike up a conversation with the Plainville native, you quickly find she's not only vivacious and charismatic, but incredibly passionate — especially when it comes to being a mother, grandmother, greatgrandmother, and a school bus driver. This year Giuliani is celebrating 40 years of safely transporting Plainville children to and from school in Bus No. 12.
Come see Santa and Mrs. Claus at Norton Park Friday, Dec. 10. Arrive between 5:15 and 5:45 p.m., and feel free to decorate your vehicle. Beginning at 6, Santa and Mrs. Claus will circle the park three times. To keep everyone safe, attendees are asked to remain in their car for the duration of the event.
Giuliani began her school bussing career in 1981. Her children were in school full time, and she had flexibility in her schedule, so she
Since 1981, Diane Giuliani has shuttled Plainville students to and from school on Bus No. 12. “I love See Giuliani, A5 my job; I really do,” she said.

State enacts paid family and medical leave
Under the program, which was enacted through legislation championed by Lamont and signed by him in 2019, workers will gain access to the necessary benefits that allow them to take time off work to care for their own health, a newborn child, or a sick family member. Workers can receive up to 12 weeks of income replacement for qualifying events.
Connecticut is only the eighth state in the nation to enact a paid family and medical leave program. While most other modern countries in the world have some type of paid family and medical leave program, the United States does not. Only 13% of private-sector workers in the U.S. have access to paid family and medical leave. “This is a milestone in Connecticut as we begin to accept benefit applications for one of the strongest paid family and medical leave programs in the nation,” Lamont said. “Supporting the workers of our state will strengthen our economic footing and make Connecticut a stronger place to live,
work, and do business. With the launch of this program, workers who need to take time off for a new baby or to recover from an illness are not punished financially, and businesses do not risk losing good workers during those emergencies. This is long overdue, and I am proud that we’re enacting a program that will be a benefit to both workers and businesses.”
