Display Each year it kind of just got bigger and bigger. We kept adding things.” Several years ago, Brunelle’s friend Edward James Sedwick-Cochran helped him set up Light-O-Rama, a software program that synchronizes lights to music. “The display moved to an

animated show … you can tune in to (the music) on the radio,” Brunelle said. This year, Brunelle said he has added some new characters to the display on Hillcrest Road. “We added an angel outside of the big angel, some blow mold reindeer, Santa with the sleigh flying in the air,”

Brunelle said. “We tried to move some things around and we got rid of some decorations to make some room for some new stuff.” Along with the new characters, Brunelle said this year’s display is more colorful. “We added a lot more colorful decorations in there so there’s going to be a lot more color than last year,” Brunelle said. Brunelle starts preparing for the annual display in September and finishes at the end of November. This year, the display opened on Dec. 4 and will close Dec. 26. Brunelle said he did not have an opening night for the light display due to COVID-19. Brunelle’s display takes place at 15 Hillcrest Road from 5 to 9 p.m., Sunday through Thursday, and 5 to 10:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday. As in the past, Brunelle will be collecting non-perishable food items for the Plainville Community Food Pantry and letters for Santa. Last year, Brunelle collected Findforyour 1,290 pounds of food the pantry.

The Abominable Snow Monster Bumble, background left, and Santa are included in the Hillcrest Road display. Dave Zajac, Record-Journal

To qualify for the credit line students can’t miss a class, can’t have filed for bankruptcy in the past five years, can’t be currently involved in litigation and need to be current on all taxes.

She enrolled in Liberty Bank’s Academy for Small Business program in the spring because she wanted to strengthen her business and learn skills that would help her to better operate her mental health and life empowerment center.

Glenn Davis, first vice president, community development/CRA officer at Liberty Bank, said the Academy for Small Business program is a 10-week class that offers up to a $5,000 credit line for those who successfully complete it. The idea is for students to use the line of credit to launch or help advance their business.

Pamella Nazario, owner of D&A Express Transportation, a trucking business out of West Hartford, was in the program in the spring. “This was such a great opportunity for me,” she said. “It was so helpful.” One of the reasons she participated was because her credit was “not too good,” and it was hard for her to get loans. Nazario’s favorite part of the program was the connections she made with other business owners. Elmore Ligon, of Meriden, was also part of the program

this year. He owns LF Transportation, which transports goods for other business. He has owned the business for about seven months and wanted to learn more about running a business. Understanding a business plan and structuring were some of the things he learned in the program, he said. “It was great to know that there’s more people out there willing to help you with your business,” he said. PLAINVILLE John Hamm, 64, lifelong resident of Plainville, died unexpectedly at his home on Tuesday, December 14, 2021. Born on October 24, 1957, he was one of three children to Sylvia (Tkacz) Hamm and the late Frank Hamm. Raised and educated in Plainville, he was a 1976 graduate of Plainville High School with a passion for machines of all kinds from a young age. An independent contractor who had his own company, Main Line Construction until 2010, John was also a talented and reliable sub-contractor for many cable companies. Most recently he worked for Capital Cable, and had endless stories of his days as a lineman. From large trucks and other vehicles, to small solar lights and batteries, John mastered the art of tinkering, and found satisfaction in disassembling and rebuilding just about anything in sight. Plainville’s own “Dr. Doolittle”, animals were known to flock to his yard at the sound of his whistle, where they could find snacks and companionship. John was true New Englander, who embraced nature’s beauty, fall fairs, scenic drives and had a special place in his heart for Martha’s Vineyard. Gone but not forgotten, he will be
