Taxes will drop slightly in the upcoming fiscal year following a unanimous decision by the Town Council.

By Michael Gagne Record-Journal staff

The budget passed by the council Monday night will result in a 0.01 percent reduction in the property tax rate.

An energy developer’s proposal to build a solar farm on a parcel owned by the Catholic Cemeteries Association has been met with opposition from neighbors and the family that currently leases the field to grow hay and other crops.

“It puts us in a better position to be able to move forward should the crisis continue,” said council Chairwoman Victoria Triano. “I think it’s a very important moment in time.” A solar farm is proposed for this field off East Street in Southington, seen here on May 1. Dave Zajac, Record-Journal
