Developers propose affordable apartments By Jesse Buchanan Record-Journal staff
Eden Avenue, Columbus Avenue and Bristol Street.
Developers are proposing an affordable housing development off Liberty Street with 30 apartments.
Hunter’s Build LLC submitted an application for a building with six one-bedroom apartments and 24 two-bedroom apartments. A third will be priced below market rate as determined by state housing regulations.
“If the proposal doesn’t have any threat to public safety, burden shifts to (Planning and Zoning)commission” to show why it shouldn’t move forward, Philips said.

St. has a house, storage, pool and other buildings. It has a few driveways to surrounding roads but no street frontage. The main driveway will connect the building to Liberty Street with emergency access to West Center Street. “It’s a real infill piece of property,” Philips said.

What is CBD?
Is CBD legal? Yes, CBD is legal on both the state and federal levels as long as it contains less than 0.3% THC. Will CBD help pain? CBD has been shown to reduce inflammation and pain in multiple small studies. We have personally heard many success stories of individual’s pain levels being lowered while on CBD. It has helped with different types of pain, from nerve pain to chronic lower back pain. Will CBD help anxiety? There are a few small studies that show CBD can help reduce anxiety. The doses in the studies were relatively large, and to take these high doses at home would cost the consumer hundreds of dollars per month. We have seen mixed results with some saying it helps their anxiety while others see no benefit.
What forms does CBD come in? CBD comes in a multitude of formulations. The most common forms are tinctures, capsules, and topical creams/salves. Each has their own benefits and drawbacks. We recommend tinctures as a great starting point as the dose can be easily adjusted. The tinctures also have a higher absorption than the capsules and end up costing less. We also carry a pet line with oil tinctures that can be added to food, or as delicious treats used to help with anxiety and joint health. What else is CBD used for? There are many health claims of CBD from slowing cancer growth, to helping with Parkinson’s disease symptoms, to preventing Alzheimer’s disease. It is important to know that there are very limited studies with CBD in general, and most of the studies were in animals. Animal studies do not always show the same results in humans. Be wary of what you read on the internet and do not replace your current medications with CBD before talking to your doctor. Can CBD flag on a drug test?

are legally allowed to call and ask the lab as to which compounds they test for. Is CBD FDA regulated?
No, CBD is not FDA regulated and is considered a supplement. Supplements do not have to abide by the same regulations that prescription and over-the-counter medications go through. The FDA can only pull CBD off the shelf if there have been reports of harm or inappropriate health claims. Because of this, there have been CBD samples with a different amounts of CBD, if any, in the product than what was on the label. Even scarier, there have been reports of other chemicals in CBD samples such as THC and illegal synthetic cannabinoids like “K2.” Here at Beacon, we vetted many companies to make sure that the CBD we sell is lab tested for quality and other contaminants. Our CBD at Beacon Prescriptions Beacon Prescriptions in Southington carries a high quality, CBD only product. The product is guaranteed to contain no psychoactive THC or other cannabinoids. It depends on the testing standards of the lab administering the drug test. Most companies only test for THC. CBD products that are THC free will not flag the test as positive.

CBD, or Cannabidiol, is one of many different naturally occurring compounds in marijuana that is a part of the cannabinoid family. It interacts with the body’s natural endocannabinoid system that plays a role in many organs and chemical processes in the body. Unlike THC, CBD is NOT psychoactive meaning that it does not make you high.

Settlement discussed in copyright infringement lawsuit against bar By Jesse Buchanan Record-Journal staff

Heavy-handed? Bar owners in the area have complained about the heavy-handed way the groups enforce copyright holdings. The former owner of the Waverly Inn in Cheshire, Kyle Cipully, said a lawsuit by Broadcast Music Inc. over licenses was a “nail in the coffin” of the restaurant and bar, which closed earlier this year. ASCAP’s suit is seeking up to $30,000 in damages in addition to attorney fees and an end to unlicensed performances. Maloney said if licenses become too expense, the bar will stop bringing live bands See Settlement, A7

While Blackstone’s lawyer, Tony Sheffy, filed a response to the lawsuit contesting many of its claims, he declined to comment further citing negotiations.
According to the group’s lawsuit, Blackstone played several songs by writers or artists represented by ASCAP. An ASCAP representative visited the bar last year and noted the songs, including House of Pain’s 1992 hit "Jump Around" and "Watch Me (Whip/Nae Nae)" by Silentó.

Prohibition themed bar opens on Eden Avenue By Jesse Buchanan Record-Journal staff
A 1920s-themed bar and restaurant opened on Eden Avenue offering classic drinks, servers in period attire and full Prohibition-era décor. Owners of The Manhattan at 16 Eden Ave. have been outfitting the business since the summer, buying antique furniture, a piano and a phone booth for the restaurant. Diane Mulholland and Rob Sitz were putting the finishing touches on the lounge and bar area Friday afternoon, Nov. 22, in preparation for the opening that evening.

Chris Poulos, a Democratic councilor, said he was concerned that none of the chairs on the committee are Democrats. He asked about minority party representation during last week’s council meeting.
Triano said open space was a “vital” committee and that council appointments should remain with council members not party designees. Palmieri was the Democrat appointed to the committee. “That’s the way it was designed and I chose not to change that,” Triano said. “It’s too important.” jbuchanan@record-journal.com 203-317-2230 Twitter: @JBuchananRJ

scored on their two OT possessions. But Southington’s defense made the winning stand and made Jack Barnum’s PAT after Brady Lafferty’s 3-yard touchdown pass in the second OT to Shane LaPorte the winning point. The Blue Knights won their eighth straight Apple Classic and now lead the series 159. Ironically, an offsides penalty on Southington led to Cheshire going for two points after Shumilla’s touchdown pass to tight end Nick DiDomizio. The Rams had already lined up and kicked a traditional PAT.
After calling time out, Cheshire decided to try to win the game.
Tuesday night. The Blue Knights actually finished with more playoff points than Darien, which lost 20-0 to New Canaan in the annual Turkey Bowl.
“I’ve been playing football for a long, long time, and that was a battle between two great teams.”
The third-seeded Blue Wave beat the Blue Knights in Week 2 of the regular season, 24-8.
“We all thought they would go up the middle,” Cassella said. “We knew — or at least thought — we were stronger up front, and we proved it.
Cheshire, which finished the regular season 8-2 and fell to No. 5 in the Class LL rankings, was next set to open at No. 4 seeded Simsbury (9-1). Southington beat Simsbury 35-7 this season en route to winning the CCC Division I West title. “I don’t think there is any mystery why both of us are going to the playoffs,” Drust said. “Two really good teams playing on Thanksgiving morning. I couldn’t be prouder of my guys.” Southington led 7-0, but for only two minutes in regulation. Cheshire tied the game with 8:08 to play in the second quarter.

Casella agreed.
“We made a few mistakes on defense, but we wanted our defense out there (with the game on the line).”
In the OT periods, McAlinden scored first from 10 yards out. Southington running back Dillon Kohl answered with a 5-yard TD run. Lafferty hit LaPorte on a 3yard pass prior to Shumilla's 16-yard TD pass to DiDomizio.
The final play didn’t involve Cheshire senior running back Jake McAlinden, which was a bit surprising to the Blue Knights. They expected Shumilla to hand off to McAlinden.

temperatures in the 40s, the game was played in a constant wind that gusted at times to 30-40 mph. As a result, the teams’ senior running backs, Kohl (148 yards rushing) and McAlinden, dominated play over the first half. (They were named Offensive MVPs of their respective teams.) The second half saw Southington’s vaunted passing attack come to life behind Lafferty, who was named the game’s overall MVP. The 6foot-4 junior kept the Blue Knights’ offense on the field with several big passes. Southington ran 47 offensive See Football, A14

“He’s showed a lot of poise (out there),” Drury said of his quarterback. “He’s a tough, gritty guy. He made some big-boy throws.” Cheshire’s only scoring threat after halftime came on its first drive of the third quarter, which ended when Casey missed a 39-yard field goal wide left. McAlinden promptly broke off a 56-yard run to set up Shumilla’s tying quarterback sneak less than two minutes later. Kohl’s touchdown run capped off a 95-yard drive by Southington. The Rams got to the Blue Knights’ 8, but an inside handoff to lineman Sean Cangiano resulted in a fumble at the Southington 5 that was recovered by John Carreiro, who was named Southington’s Defensive MVP.
