Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH)
TRANSFORMATION TO SUPPORT OSH PROFESSIONALS
The brief IOSH wanted a member magazine and website that aligned with its five-year strategy and better reflected the Institution’s brand values. We delivered a multi-channel content strategy that is also generating a substantial income stream.
IOSH is the chartered body and largest membership organisation for safety and health professionals around the world. It acts as champion, adviser, advocate and trainer for 47,000 members. Helping them create workplaces that are safer, healthier and more sustainable.
Redactive was appointed to rethink the content strategy, revamp IOSH magazine’s look and feel, and revitalise its importance to members’ working lives. Maximising advertising revenues was crucial to help fund the magazine, and in addition we were tasked with redeveloping IOSH’s job board.
A vital way that the Institution provides professional development and advice is through its media brand, IOSH magazine. But in 2019, the Institution’s new leadership team recognised that IOSH magazine was out of sync with IOSH’s goals and failing to engage members effectively.

Redactive has met the brief and lived-up to the ideas, image and potential that we invested in following the detailed and extensive review process undertaken during our search for a new supplier. The new magazine is bright, engaging and reflects the varied needs of today’s OSH professional. Redactive has worked hard to provide balanced content that takes account of previous IOSH membership feedback and also provides a more modern ‘social media appearance’ that we hope appeals to the wide range of readers, however they take on board the publication. We have also taken account of the environmental credentials of Redactive and have made steps to reduce the climate change impacts from the magazine’s development and supply.
It represents a truly global reach, with more diverse and further-reaching content than ever before and articles that are researched and written in an inclusive manner. I suspect for some, this step-change may have been a bit of a shock, but I hope it has very much been a positive one. The standard set by the publication can and will develop alongside our membership and the strategic imperatives in support of WORK 2022 and beyond, providing the building blocks for continued, aligned support of our profession globally, alongside those stakeholders we want to both work with and influence.
