A Small Group

Safari in Comfort & Style With the personal Back Track touch

Back Track Adventures offer a totally unique and very comfortable African Safari Holiday. At the same time we provide our fellow travelers the opportunity to experience everything that is the African bush. Part of that experience is where we stay, how we travel, good food and wines, professional friendly guides, safari crew and escorts and more... Most people come to Africa to experience the wildlife. Though we cannot guarantee that you will have a cheetah jump into the back seat of the vehicle with you, we can say that you are up for a breathtaking wildlife experience, all in comfort and style. Where we stay You will always stay in comfortable, secure and interesting accommodation in every location.

VARIETY IS THE SPICE OF LIFE Throughout our safari we stay in a variety of accommodation from a 4 star Hotel, luxury and basic lodges and chalets, fisherman’s cottages, a comfortable mobile safari camp and even on a houseboat in the Okavango Delta.

STYLISH HOTELS On our last night in Windhoek, we stay in a 4 star, swish hotel with all the facilities you would expect at that standard.

COMFORTABLE CAMPING Camping has never been so comfortable. In Chobe National Park, we camp in a lovely private camp site for 2 nights. You will arrive at your camp in Chobe set up with comfortable safari chairs, twin share

Okakuejo Lodge Page 4 | Back Track Adventures

roomy walk-in style tents that are kitted out with beds, thick foam mattresses and covers, warm doonas, pillows, pillow slips and a tent light. You have your own toilet and private hot showers so you can clean up properly and then relax after an exciting day enjoying the wild African bush. We dine at night under the stars or in our dining tent. All camp equipment is supplied, from knives, forks, and spoons to wine glasses.

LODGES The term ‘Lodge’ encompasses the variety of local accommodation used on this Safari. We stay in luxury National Park Chalets near the floodlit waterholes at Okakakeujo and Namutoni in Etosha National Park, 2-3 star rustic Lodges in Rhundu, Khorixas, Sossusvlei, Saschenheim and a brand new 4 star lodge at Kasane. In Victoria Falls and Swakopmund we stay in basic clean Chalets and Fishermen’s Cottages with private facilities.

Victoria Falls rest camp

How we travel TRANSPORT STYLE Our Great Southern Africa Safari transport style has been called, ‘Overlanding - for grown-ups.’ Overlanding originated in the 70’s with mainly 18-35 year olds with limited budgets, heading off on long journeys through multiple African countries in old trucks. They camped and ate where and when they could. Their main objective was to have a wonderful time. We have adopted the basic overlanding principals and applied them to a well maintained special purpose safari truck, The Beast. We also have a multi- country itinerary, however, we are comfortably accommodated , well fed and watered but unlike the young’uns of years gone by, we are open to all ages, couples, singles, as long as you have a twinkle in the eye and a desire to immerse yourself in the adventure and have fun.

A morning tea break with “The Beast”

TRANSPORT We travel in our specially constructed safari truck, The Beast, designed to carry passengers and crew in comfort. The Beast has ample storage space for luggage, safari supplies and equipment. There’s plenty of room on board to spread out, plus eskies to keep drinks and snacks cool. The Beast has soft, comfortable seating and is designed for excellent game viewing and sightseeing. It handles the road conditions perfectly and is a safe, reliable, well maintained vehicle. The sound system is available when mood music is appropriate. In Chobe and Khorixas, we use smaller, special purpose safari vehicles specifically designed to handle local conditions. We fly into the heart of the Okavango Delta, where we also utilise power boats and local canoes to explore the waterways of the Okavango Delta. Our safari is a holiday, not an endurance test.

MEALS Nearly all meals are provided on the safari. The only meals not supplied are some lunches at times when everyone will be out and about doing their ‘own thing’. Meals provided are marked on the Itinerary. We have also arranged a few special dinners along the way including a beach bbq in Swakopmund and a candlelight dinner on the banks of the Zambezi River in Victoria Falls. A few years back, a large elephant joined us during the course of our

candlelight dinner. Luckily he didn’t eat, or drink much. We have our own mobile bar for dispensing gin and tonics (purely to prevent malaria of course). All drinks are at cost price and a bar tab is recorded and settled at the end of the safari. Soft drinks, wine, beers, spirits and mixers are carried. We will be taking a cook with us as part of the crew in 2014 as we intend to have mainly camp fire breakfasts, lunches and dinners at The Beast. We set up comfy chairs around the fire after dinner each night and set a table and chairs for all meals. Feedback from our 2012 Great Southern Africa Safari suggested that everyone enjoyed the experience of having Safari style meals together as a group around the campfire.

PARTICIPATION We have a dedicated supportive crew who will attend to all camp duties. Your involvement is to enjoy your holiday.

THE AFRICAN WILDLIFE Our safari will bring us into close proximity with wild animals. The wildlife and birdlife spotting will be superb. Our camp site in Chobe is safe and secure and it is a neverto-be-forgotten experience and privilege to camp in the wilds of Africa. On our 2012 Safari, the wildlife spotted just from our campsite was truly incredible with both leopard and wild (painted) dog being prominent. It is interesting to note that even in Victoria Falls, where we will be staying outside the Wildlife Reserve, you can still encounter elephants, baboons and warthogs in the grounds around our Chalets. In Etosha National Park as well as our regular game drives we will have the opportunity of viewing the wildlife at the waterholes adjacent to our accommodation.

ACTIVITIES All activities mentioned in the itinerary are included in the tour price. The only extra costs will be for optional activities you might select while in Victoria Falls and Swakopmund. An up to date price list for all these activities is included in your Information Guide to assist your budgeting.

Igowati Lodge is situated in the ancient Huab valley in the Kunene region of Namibia (formerly known as Damaraland). The area, known as the Twyfelfontein Uibasen Conservancy, boasts a multitude of rock engravings and paintings. These are a silent testimony to the first hunter-gatherer and subsequent Khoikhoi inhabitants of 6000 years ago, who used the area as a place of worship and shaman rituals. To preserve this unique region, Twyfelfontein was declared Namibia’s first UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2007. We will have the chance to support the local Damara community by taking a trip through the town of Khorixas the way the Damara people travel – by Donkey cart!. We visit the town and have a drink at a local shebeen (bar) taste some of the local specialties like Mopanie worm and interact with the Damara people, before returning to iGowati. The next day, we visit Twyfelfontein with its rock engravings, the Burned mountain, Petrified Forest and Organ pipes. We leave early
