Dear Parents and Caregivers,

The winter solstice on Tuesday saw the longest night, shortest day of the year and marked the middle of winter in the penultimate week of Term 2. For me there is almost a sense of optimism attached to this day as we look forward to longer warmer days ahead. It will be most evident when we return from three weeks of holiday as afternoon sports practices and activities will end with daylight still around.

I congratulate all the Middle School students on completing their Half Yearly Examinations and remind them that the process was the important factor, not the marks. So feedback sessions are not just about getting their results, they are about analyzing how and why mistakes were made and learning from these.

The Senior School continue writing their examinations next week with the Year 12 students continuing for the first week of the holiday. We wish them all well and a calm preparation period. The Dance Department has had some fantastic results in the Dance Eisteddfod at the Extreme Dance Competition last weekend. Under Emily Knight's incredible guidance, dedication and creative choreography, our Middle School Dance Company maintained their reign as champions at this particular event taking out First Place in the Contemporary Yr 7- 9 School Section. This was no easy feat as competition was tough against a number of other well established schools and some quick rearranging to cope with losing one performer due to illness on the day was an added challenge. Emily has reported that the group pulled together as a team to produce an outstanding performance onstage. We are so proud of each and every student and so happy to see their hard work rewarded in this way. A special congratulations must be given to Emily for working tirelessly with this group of girls, encouraging and supporting the team through some very early mornings and providing them with a beautiful piece of choreography to perform.

Following this win we received news from the eisteddfod committee that the group has been invited to perform in the Extreme Gala, which will take place this Sunday. It is an exclusive invite only event where additional awards will be given for categories such as Best Choreography and Most Entertaining Troupe. Fingers crossed our girls are rewarded for their performance but, at the very least, this opportunity to get onstage again is going to be such a wonderful experience for them and we are so proud. The following dancers were part of this sensational victory.

Savanah Charles, Natasha Green, Sienna Peer, Bianca Peer, Noa-Rose Golan-Ende, Isabella Leibman, Alex Thatcher, Ella Kirby, Bonnie Douglas, Sofia Gerarchi, and Jamie Song.
