The Year 11 Drama students presented their Term Assess- ment Performances this week, presenting scenes from their core text, 'Ruby Moon' by Matt Cameron. Students undertook a study of Contemporary Australian Theatre and learned about a variety of dramatic techniques in preparation for staging these performances. Our Drama students demonstrated their outstanding acting skills and sophisticated knowledge of the prevalent concerns of the play. The Fencing Program is stronger than ever at Reddam this term with the mighty Year 7 boys leading the charge. The Year 7 Boys Epee Team is made up of Nevin Hemachandra, Alex Chan, Luke Voss and Hugo Grace, and what a team they make. The boys took out gold at the Sydney Schools Epee Championships on Saturday in convincing wins. This is the boys first competition together and I look forward to watching them in competitions to come! The boys also competed in the Individual Sydney Schools Epee Championship earlier in the term with Alex Chan taking out the bronze medal. Congratulations Alex!

The published minimum selection rank for these two courses for the 2022 intake was unusually high as a result of the introduction of the Early Entry Program and special provisions for COVIDimpacted HSC cohorts. It is important to note that these were exceptional circumstances and the minimum selection ranks for the 2023 intake may vary significantly from 2022. The minimum selection ranks are reflective of the demand for that intake, and can differ year to year. UTS Elite Athletes and Performers Applications open on 1 August 2022. Attention girls in Years 11 & 12 interested in Engineering: UNSW has launched a new pathway program into UNSW Engineering via the Girls in Engineering (GIE) Club - the GIE FEAS Program. Bachelor of Oral Health Admission Change: Admission to the Bachelor of Oral Health no longer requires successful completion of a multiple mini interview. University of New England—Applications are now open

UNE’s Early Entry has been running successfully for more than 30 years. Early Entry is open to all Year 12 applicants and relies solely on a school assessment of student attributes and abilities to determine their suitability for entry. The assessment is based around the student’s ability to work and learn independently, as well as their overall potential for academic success at UNE.

Students can apply to UNE early, receive an offer and secure a place at university, even before ATARs are released. This gives students certainty to begin making other arrangements such as where to live and finding part-time work.

AUGUST EARLY OFFER ROUND APPLICATIONS OPEN

Applications for the August Early Offer Round are currently open and will close Sunday 24th July. For your students that are eager to secure a space at UC as soon as possible, this offer round will provide conditional offers this August based on their Year 11 results, and supplementary forms. Students can apply in 2 easy steps: Step 1 – Ensure your Universities Admissions Centre (UAC) application includes courses that are available for selection in this offer round. Step 2 – complete this supplementary form, ensuring you upload your Year 11 grade results.

DiscoverFAD Winter Break Courses

The Faculty of Arts and Design is excited to announce the return of the DiscoverFAD high school program! This year, DiscoverFAD is returning with its most popular courses from previous years and launching a few brand new uniquely designed short courses for Years 9-12 students. Students can select from courses delivered online or on campus for an authentic university student experience! And whilst the courses all have learning outcomes, students will not be assessed… Please note there is a small tuition fee attached to these courses to ensure the students’ commitment to studying over the school holidays.

Benefits of a UAC application

Applications for 2023 entry opened on 12 April for NSW, ACT and IB students. Applications for interstate students will open on 1 August 2022. We're sometimes asked about the benefits of applying through UAC, so here are a few points: - You can apply for multiple institutions with just one application.

- You can apply for SRS early offers. - If you've experienced educational disadvantage during Years 11 and or 12, you can have that disadvantage considered through EAS. - You can change your preferences as many times as you like. - You can be considered for the most competitive courses, which generally aren't available via direct applications.

Semester 1, 2023 courses are being added to the UAC application progressively. All courses will be available for selection by 1 August. To start their application, students will need their Year 12 student number (eg NESA or BSSS student number) and UAC PIN: NSW HSC and ACT BSSS students: Their UAC PIN was emailed to them on 12 April.

Educational Access Scheme

A reminder that students must apply for EAS and upload all documents by 22 November 2022 to ensure their application is considered in the first ATAR-based offer round on 22 December. If a student has applied for EAS and received an email from UAC about supplying documents, this is just a reminder. They can upload their supporting documents progressively, as they become available, but they must have them all uploaded by the 22 November deadline. Students will be notified of their EAS eligibility on 15 December and will then have until midnight on 16 December to finalise their course preferences.

Schools Recommendation Scheme

Over the past few months, we have had many students from Years 10 and 11 asking about early offers. Please advise all your students that they can only apply for SRS when they are in Year 12. We have also had many enquiries from students who are unable to lodge an SRS application. It is usually because the student hasn't submitted their UAC application yet. Students must submit a UAC application before they can submit an SRS application. Students must decide on the order of their course preferences by 3 November. The first SRS offers will then be released on 11 November.

ATTENTION YEAR 12 STUDENTS APPLYING TO THE UK VIA UCASPlease ensure you register for any examination that is required if you are applying to Oxford or Cambridge. You must also ensure you inform Ms Jones and Laura Dovier of this so we can register you to sit the examination at Reddam in November on the scheduled date.

POEM FOREST is a free nature writing prize that breathes life back into the natural world that sustains us.

Created by Red Room Poetry, in partnership with The Australian Botanic Garden, POEM FOREST invites students to use their words to make positive climate action. For every nature poem received a tree is planted to help heal habitats and create a POEM FOREST for future generations. In 2021, over 5,000 poem trees were planted.

All POEM FOREST Prize entries are published in our digital library and have the chance to win $5,000 in prizes, including $500 cash for each category, book packs from Magabala Books, Pantera Press, Wonderground as well as Garden tours, plants, seeds and more.

Paperbark, by Rowan Kremer Year 9

I am not the first to sit here, peeling the thin layers of paperbark from each other, scratching the soft glue dust until the fibre dances in the air and settles pale in my hair.

A far cry from the ankle joints of trees that cluster in cold circles of chip bark, the paperbark tree outside my window bends sun-struck from the ground, weeds springing cheerfully through the roots.

I unstick the transparent layers that give the paperbark its name and wonder if this is humanity at its core: A space oddity; a tiny drifting rock crawling with curious giants.

The world has, in being known, lost its intrigue. There is no movement to stir. No discoveries to spear with a flag, no stone unturned.
